I'm on a 4.1 .2 ROM and I'm using rom manager recovery what recovery do I need if I want to use 4.2 and what if I already have a recovery can I use two at the same time.or do I need to delet rom manager.
I have read that the newest ClockworkMod Recovery will not create the nested "/0" folders.
I recommend using the latest TWRP though.
You can update ClockworkMod from ROM Manager or you can install TWRP from the GooManager app.

I downloaded ROM Manager after I got s-off and root, and it won't let me look at ROMs unless I flash the latest clockwork recovery. I'm using the custom one that came with s-off, so would it be safe to flash to this new one straight from ROM Manager?
Yes. That's what I had to do also. Do you have superuser? There's a file somewhere floating in this forum that installs su. After I installed that I updated the recovery from rom manager and I was good to go.

Here is the patch you flash in recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745
"Simply install this patch via CWM and reboot. From there you can proceed to run any root apps you need (such as Titanium)."
All the ones I found online are older 5.0.x.x version and it does not support flash from external SD...
Why not just use rom manager?

No, ROM Manager is an app, while CWM is a recovery.
You can install the app called ROM Manager and within it you'll find the option to flash the latest CWM recovery.

I think all versions support flashing from external sd only if the sd is formated FAT

Right, this is for the case when I am soft bricked and can't boot into cwm. I am able to reflash the cwm and bring everything back but now I just need the newer version so that I can install from external SD.

All it takes to install cwm is a simple dd command with root access. This is what ROM manager does for you. Or you can install it manually using terminal editor
I haven't done much with my phone lately and I'm thinking about updating my software cause of some issues.
I was thinking about using the PARANOIDandroid 2.99 and it said I should update my recovery version and I was wondering how I should do that?
Any point in the right direction would be cool. I'm not a noob just out of date.
download goo manager and use it to flash the latest twrp or you could get the zip file posted in the twrp thread and flash that in recovery then reboot..
I believe officially, twrp doesn't supply flashable zips; if downloaded from their website, you'll have to use fastboot.

I updated my recovery trough the ROM manager app. Its an easy way, just press flash CWM. Works perfectly for me.

Goo manager is the same thing as ROM manager, only its free and flashes a much better recovery.
Go with twrp

Try using TWRP 2.3.3.0 as your recovery system instead, it's more up to date and is reliable. Just flash it through Odin, afterwards, you should be able to install and boot the ROMs perfectly.

If you don't mind switching to TWRP as the guy above said, then I would switch. If you like CWM, then make sure you aren't using the super wipe scripts on CWM versions other than 5.0.X
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Did you manage to solve it? i'm having the same issue with every rom i flash
I'm currently on cwm non touch recovery an want to upgrade. I'm not sure which one I should upgrade but I see a lot of devs suggest twrp touch recovery so I guess that one. Do I just download the recovery an flash it on cwm? An when I do have it installed how do I flash ROMs do I just select the ROM an the recovery will clear caches? Or do I have to flash another zip before like with cwm I flashed the super wipes?

To flash TWRP you to get Goo Manager from the play store.
Open it up and click on "flash rom"... it will ask you if you want it to find you one. Select that option.
It will then say it will DL TWRP. Once it is done with the DL it will flash TWRP to your phone.
And bam....your in the latest TWRP

Thanks!!!!! I did it already. When I'm going to flash a new ROM what do I have to do? On cwm der was the superwipe zip I had to flash before is it the same on twrp?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Dont use super wipe. Not good with TWRP.
Do a full backup first of your current rom. Do a complete wipe. When you hit the wipe option it will tell you all that it will wipe.
Next hit install from the main menu...choose you zip for your rom. Let it do its thing then reboot system.
All done

Ok so I don't need to remove it, and recovery mode is now controlled by twrp? I'm making a fresh backup now anyway, better safe than sorry.
