Upgrading recovery - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I'm currently on cwm non touch recovery an want to upgrade. I'm not sure which one I should upgrade but I see a lot of devs suggest twrp touch recovery so I guess that one. Do I just download the recovery an flash it on cwm? An when I do have it installed how do I flash ROMs do I just select the ROM an the recovery will clear caches? Or do I have to flash another zip before like with cwm I flashed the super wipes?

To flash TWRP you to get Goo Manager from the play store.
Open it up and click on "flash rom"... it will ask you if you want it to find you one. Select that option.
It will then say it will DL TWRP. Once it is done with the DL it will flash TWRP to your phone.
And bam....your in the latest TWRP

Thanks!!!!! I did it already. When I'm going to flash a new ROM what do I have to do? On cwm der was the superwipe zip I had to flash before is it the same on twrp?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app

Dont use super wipe. Not good with TWRP.
Do a full backup first of your current rom. Do a complete wipe. When you hit the wipe option it will tell you all that it will wipe.
Next hit install from the main menu...choose you zip for your rom. Let it do its thing then reboot system.
All done

Installing twrp now, but would it conflict with my old cwm? Or does it get deleted?

Ok so I don't need to remove it, and recovery mode is now controlled by twrp? I'm making a fresh backup now anyway, better safe than sorry.

how do i switch from twrp to tcwm?

can i flash the newest tcwm with extsdcard support over twrp2? or do i have to use odin to install it? if i did, would it overwrite twrp or do i have to delete it first? how do you delete the recovery? i like twrp but i want to try out tcmw to see if it fixes my extsdcard mounting issues.
You can do it from Rom manager.

Cant reboot into custom recovery!

I rooted my phone by odin method . Flashing clockwork mod recovery over stock recovery . And somehow I was able to install Superuser.
But now when I try to reboot in recovery it takes me to stock recovery mode not custom recovery.
I tried both recovery and they work for a while and after some time they dont.
Why is this happening ?
Su is working fine and I m on UVLH2 .
Thanks in advance

Since you already have superuser. Why not install via Rom manager or install twrp
Recovery doesn't stick for some weird reason when flashing through Odin on that firmware

Battery pulls are unnecessary. Delete or rename these.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Reinstall recovery with rom or goo manager and reboot recovery.

Thats weird...so you can reboot into custom recovery a few times and eventually it goes back to stock? Or can you only boot custom once then it reverts?
First, look for these files and if there, delete or rename them.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Then reinstall recovery and see if it works now.
If theyre not there, good!....well maybe!
Have you tried any other method of installing recovery?
Try using my favorite tool, Mobile Odin.
Free lite version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
(Dont forget to download the flash kernel further down the page)
Or buy full version on play store.
Download twrp here:
http://d-h.st/pNQ
Rename to recovery.img
Open Mobile Odin and tap Recovery and select that file.
Do not wipe.
Tap and confirm Flash Firmware.
Let me know how that goes.

twrp back to cwm?

i just installed twrp...whats the safest way to reinstall cwm? should i just reflash the cwm recovery tar file?
Yes, the tar file only changes up your recovery system.

I would like to know the opposite. How do I go from CWM to TWRP?
Is there a zip I can flash in CWM?
Also, why are you going back to CWM?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
to get twrp just download goo manager click menu and click add open script recovery and now you have twrp to get cwm download rom manager and click instal clock work mod recovery

I have used Mobile ODIN to flash back and forth between recoveries. You can find ODIN flashable files for the different recoveries here.

Yes... Go to the twrp thread in the development section. I put a flash zip file for twrp there.

I think the easiest is to flash CWM just like anything else from within your current recovery. Takes just a second then reboot recovery and will have CWM.

cant change my recovery...

ok so i was able to install TWRP and root my phone but decided to try CWM so i went to stock first and did a system update, then i went and installed CWM and i dont like it so when i try to reload TWRP it wont do it...any help?
Use goo manager to flash twrp. Open goo manager and hit menu and install recovery script. It will download and flash the latest twrp.

download the zip from TWRP's site. Flash like any other rom.
Goo manager is the easiest way.

Nonononononono. You can't flash a recovery through the recovery, cmon now. If it won't work through your phone use Odin and flash through there.

I'm not going to argue the point because there may be differences in the scenarios, but I flash to update TWRP. Hasn't been an issue.

You can flash recovery zips thru recovery. Don't give out false information.

You can flash TWRP without ODIN if your phone is rooted.
Go to the playstore and download "goomanager" a free app
and click the menu softkey on left side of phone then select
"flash open recovery script".
Then wait til it gets done and when it's done just reboot the phone.
That's the easiest way to do it and TWRP is way better than cwm.
Good luck!
Awesome thank you so much you da best
