It destroys the EVO.
<<<<former EVO owner.
Absolutely a good buy.
Its a great phone very responsive and for me does everything i could ever want/ need in a phone. That being said if you have the extra cash go for it because its the best phone sprint has out right now, but if the price you'll be paying for it off- contract is steep for you I suggest holding off on it because newer phones are coming very soon
Definitely worth it as mentioned before. The xda marketplace has better deals for the e4gt but they don't pop up too often. Expect to pay a good amount of money but it is a great device.

Yeah unless Samsung releases a better nexus for sprint, our device is superior to it. Also, by the time the sgs3 comes you'll be nearing your upgrade

I have no complaints about both but I have heard others complain about them. The speaker could be better but I like it. I never owned the evo but compared to the evo 3d (which I still regularly use), the E4GT has both a better earpiece and speaker.
Here's a no nonsense review of the E4GT from flossy carter. Enjoy the show haha
E4GT Review FlossyCarter
My friends wife just got the White E4GT like 2 days ago. From her own words it's been one of the first phones shes been able to setup herself. Shes not very tech savvy (reason she has her husband or me to help at times) but so far she LOVES the phone. I'll be rooting his this week but going to leave his wife's phone alone for the time being. She really has no need for root and honestly wouldn't know what to do with it anyways . But they got the E4GT after they had a chance to use/play with mine for awhile and they love them.
Coming from HTC hero , id say worth the buy! Wanted the galaxy nexus but was like eff it and took the chance been by accessories i'm on it every minute

I'm four days into my SGS2, upgraded from the SGS1. I am pissed I waited so long! The S2 is a far superior product. It's faster, cleaner, thinner and just feels right when held in your hand. The screen is clearer, ntm bigger. It supports call recording (#1 biggest reason I bought the phone) and has a nicer camera. Longer battery life, thinner than the S1.
I spent $395 on an eBay auction for one new in the box, never touched. Lotta money, but well spent, imho. And I can sell my S1 + accessories for $200.
Better on everything the epic the evo is a good phone but once you get an epic you will see but on another note with the speed phones are being manufactured and with a year left I would save your money the epic will be mothballs by then and you could have an even better phone
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I'd say buy one on eBay and sell your old one to help cover the cost; I've been on Sprint for less than 2 years and the E4GT will be my fifth phone (Samsung Moment, Samsung Transform, Samsung Epic 4g, EVO 3D, E4GT) - whenever I see something I want, I find it on eBay.
I won't even qualify for my first paid upgrade until April 1, but I plan to save that for the phone that I see and decide I can't live without the instant it comes out.
YMMV, but I paid ~$340 for a mint/used E4GT with original box & accessories; the better shape they're in, the more they go for but mid-$300's seems pretty average.
Good luck!
Totally worth it! Best phone hands down on sprint. You will love it.
I just bought one for a friend off craigslist, like new, mint, for $200. Just make sure is you go used, call sprint and ask if the esn is clear, AND if the phone is attached to any account.
There is also a couple g threads going around.. Get a airwave for free, and another to use it to get a upgrade price phone. Might want to look into that.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Without a doubt, best phone. Stay on top of rooted ROMs and it's the best. But even on Stock ROM this thing is tops.
Camera rocks. Speed is amazing. Could do better with GPS, but it works. Ear piece speaker is very loud. Very few issues.
The build quality is far superior to the Evo line. People complain about the plastic but it's super light and thin. No dust or light leakage problems.

I'm coming from an LG revolution on Verizon, ill admit it's plagued with issues. The main reason I liked it was locking in my unlimited 4g data, and it handles wifi tether somewhat well. Anyway
Seeing prices on an off contract Verizon GN ($200-300) makes me consider buying one outright to replace. Doesn't help my revolution has a crack in the glass (not screen). Are there any considerations I should make beyond what I find reading out of reviews and going by user experiences? I'm so far happy with all that I'm seeing, and the caveats aren't big for me, such as omitting Google wallet and it having a pentile display. Ill bet it's miles ahead of my revolution (plain LCD 800x480). I have the extended battery for my revolution and will most likely soon after buying a GN go for the same, but I want to also hear from the xda community. Thanks all in advance.

Do it. Seriously. Its a great time to be holding a gnex.
But definitely get some form of screen protection immediately. Preferably a case of some kind, as this phone is like a wet bar of soap.

Nah. I used to use the dual incipio case, but the slimness just cannot be covered up! Just slap a screen protector and you're golden... unless you're really clumsy. But yes, get the GNex, flash Jelly Bean, and you will be convulsing on the ground struck by awesomeness (if that makes sense? )
I just got my gnex from eBay. And this phone is so awesome! I am coming from a epic touch 4g where the phone specs should be a slight wash but I am digging this phone sooooo much more

So much development too.
The phone is great. A few days with it and you'll wonder how you ever lived with a smaller screen.
The stock experience isn't bad, but unlocking the boot loader and rooting couldn't be easier so you'll be up and running with new Roms all the time.
I'm quite enjoying mine, but it is slick and has a tendency to want to slide out of your hand. Get a case and an extended battery.
It does get warm near the top when browsing the net but its a big deal. Anyway off to work I go, get the damn phone you'll have no regrets.

Thanks all for the support! Forgot just how free and open nexus devices are. Is there a particular extended battery and case go for? I noticed an off brand 3800mah with cover (same company also makes suitable cases) for $20, didn't look like a half bad company at least. I know batteries can be hit or miss. Also, does the (insert power control widget w/wifi tether button) trick still work for that? Atm I use wifi tether and by sheer luck it works in AP mode, vs adhoc, which I much prefer. Also any particular big pros to rooting besides jellybean? I only really rooted my revolution to remove bloat, extend battery and use wifi tether. Afaik with the nexus, there's no particular bloat being vanilla android, battery is more solid than my phone, and if that tether trick works then no root needed for that with what I'm reading.

DON'T BUY SKETCHY BATTERIES!!!
Buy only genuine Samsung extended battery or from a somewhat legit company, like Mugen power.
Sketchy batteries present a high risk of breaking your phone.
Quick tip from you guys.
Is it worth to trade a S2 for a gnex?
Tks
I have a upgrade and Im wondering which phone to get. I like the s3 a lot. Especially the new touchwiz. But I don't like that it could be glitchy and a cheap build. Plus I have had my note for about 6 monthes and I have had some screen problems like the weird ruff spots on it. And I don't want to have the same problems again with the s3. Also is the overheating fixed? I don't want to root this phone (atleast for now) I just want a nice clean reliable and custom experience. Also is the retina display noticeably better? If you have had any problems with your s3 please tell me. Any opinions will be helpful. I'm pretty open minded right now.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Best one is the gs3 cause the one x is older and dosnt have expandable storage or a super amoled or as great dev support and dont get me started with the i****onmyself 5
Save it for the Note 2.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
The note is great its just a tad to big. The 4.8 inch screen of s3 is great size for me. But I have heard it has a number of problems like overheating and its fragile compared to other devices or so I've read. A HUGE pet peeve I have is when the plastic battery door creaks and squeaks. Is that apparent on the g3? And if it does, how well do those metal doors on eBay work?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
One more thing. Will the g3 run smooth and reliable without modifing it? I want to use it right out of the box with the least amount of problems as possible
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Never had a problem with my backdoor or overheating and yes its perfectly stable with stock
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Are all the us carrier versions the same spec wise?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Depends.
If by "overheat" you mean getting uncomfortably hot, that only happens when you play intensive games like NOVA3 for extended periods of time.
Backdoor creak has never happened to me, but my buttons on the side creek occasionally.
As for your options, honestly the One X doesn't look shabby, but remember that there is less development in that sector, and that the SGS3 has plenty of devs.
As for the iPhone 5, I can tell you from my experience-- that if you enjoy Android, stay away from iOS unless you want to dumb yourself down to a trained monkey. That's my biggest problem with iOS, it's made for extremely simple people. Jailbreaking can't fix the nature of that OS, and that made me dump my iPhone.
In my opinion, I think you should get the SGS3. Build quality won't reach the iPhone 5's, but other then that you won't have any regrets. Besides, you can always exchange.
Goodluck bud!
PS: All US Carrier models are the same, besides the radio. Same Dual Core A-15's @ 1.5GHz.
The main problem I have with the s3 is build quality, reliability, accessories. The iPhone 5 IA built so nicely it makes me feel like it's actually worth 200-300 dollars. The s3 just doesn't give me that quality feel.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app

IPhone 5 is also over hyped. You're paying for materials and branding, not quality of product.

I've had my S3 since early July, naked screened, and when i wipe the slight smudges off of it from my fingers, it shines like the day i bought it.
As for the battery door.... yea, i'm pretty sure the only people you'd hear about it being squeaky or cheap from are the iPhone 5 Republic. To them, anything plastic is sh*t anymore. I'd hate to have seen how they chose a phone 6+ years ago, when very few phones even used a THIN metal shell, and smartphones were limited to Windows Mobile and Blackberries basically. I never hear a noise from it, and it's far from cheap feeling. It's actually Polycarbonate plastic.
I've had it running a custom ROM since i'd say just under a month into having it.... but i still tend to stick to the tweaked stock roms more than CM10 stuff, simply because i like the TouchWiz camera. Runs fantastic.
Now Im reading about loose power buttons and even one guys supposedly fell off. OS and screen size of the s3 combined with the build quality, reliability, and retina display of the iPhone 5 would be a fantastic phone.

Hey fellas,
I finally made the switch again over to android.
I have been contemplating this for quite some time now and I just had to do it with the Nexus at $350 & I can not wait for it to arrive later this week. + i missed the xda community
I was a former Captivate owner then jumped over to the iphone 4s for a test and now I had to come back. Cant wait to start flashing roms (a little rusty since im sure things have changed in flashing techniques since I left) so a lot of reading to catch up on :good:
Never been a fan of touchwiz or any carrier implemented interface over android so this will be a great change having a pure google device for once.
Also what would be the best cheap case I should get ?????????
Just wanted to introduce myself on the Nexus forum and hope to be pretty active here
UPDATE: I ordered it on Saturday Oct 6th around 3pm ....anybody order it recently ? How long did it take for it to arrive because I haven't gotten any update as of yet??
Plus today being Columbus day I think there it wont be shipped out till tomorrow?
Welcome! This is my favorite stop for smartphone info...
The gnex has been my favorite android phone. The screen size paired with SwiftKey made for an easy transition from my droid 2's qwerty keyboard.
Your gsm version will get better battery life than sprint / verizon. I would suggest bugless beast with trinity kernel, screebl beta, extended battery, cpu spy, and better battery stats.
Good luck.

I just realized being Columbus day I fear it won't be sent out today either (my card charge still is pending)
So I sold my S3 (which I really regret) in anticipation for the N4. I couldn't get one on launch and theyve been sold out in the UK play store ever since.
I'm kind of glad I didn't get one now. I was always concerned about teething issues and 16gb bothered me.
Today I decided to get a GN off eBay as a stop gap. Besides the camera, it is a wonderful device. I like the build and I love the pure black front. I'm also a sucker for amoled screens. I've used my brothers one fairly extensively and with 4.2 it seems like a really "complete" device.
My plan is to keep the GN for around 6 months. At that point I'm hoping Google are going to do an N7 and release a 32gb model. Only at that point will I pick an N4 up.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting it, and for the first time since my S1, having a device which I can run 100% working AOSP rooms on.

Cool story
I think you'll really like it. I've had mine for about 3 weeks - got it for a steal on eBay right after the Nexus 4 was announced. When I got it, it looked completely unused.
Anyway, even the camera doesn't bother me. It's as good as any other cell phone camera I've ever used though I suppose it's not the best out there (HTC or Nokia most likely have those). Still what I use my phone camera for is stuff that winds up downsized on Facebook anyway. If I want to take nice photos, that's what my Canon EOS T3 is for.
Yea it is not a bad decision. The camera really does not bother me at all because it actually takes great pictures. Overall it is the software mix with the mp that produce great shots so the 5mp only sounds bad but quality is pretty good imo. The development is amazing as well with all the new 4.2.1 Roms coming out
Also depends on how much you got the gnex for thou?

And I don't care what anyone says about amoled, the pure black with saturated neon blue on the gnex is sexy as hell.

I totally agree. I hear a lot of people *****ing about the displays on this phone, but I have to disagree, especially after a minor color tweak. Punchy colors (but not too punchy), super dark blacks, 320ppi (pentile be damned it still looks great)..I find myself just staring at my home screen sometimes which features a city scape at night recolored with a rainbow like effect, it just really shows all the strengths of this screen.
Certain shades of gray are the weakness, but I rarely encounter them, and the rest of the time it just looks great, so I really don't care.

sell gnex then buy iphone = 1 less fanboi on xda??
I sat a couple of days ago with a N4 in my cart, with a ship date of 1-2 weeks...but something just didn't seem right to me. It was $350 I didn't really have to blow, but I really needed to get something going because my company is kicking everyone off their Verizon corporate plan at the end of the month.
I've been a Galaxy S I (Fascinate) user for the past 2 years, and I wanted to stay with a Galaxy family. I have been researching using a GSM GNex for T-Mobile Prepaid. So, I bailed on the N4, with the hopes that I could find a good deal on a GNex (I knew I could get a "like new" one from Amazon for $300).
Then my Fascinate died. My Galaxy S1 that I've babied and taken such good care of it's whole life....now in a endless bootloop with no USB access whatsoever to flash anything new to it. Oh well, I was going to have to send it back to corporate next week anyway. Still, I haven't been without a mobile for more than a day in a long time.
Somehow luck was on my side. The very next day, a local man posted his "like new in box" GSM Gnex for $200, and I pounced. Met him during his 2nd shift workbreak and bought it immediately. Got it home and shoved my T-Mobile SIM in there, and completed the activation and number port online. Took them about 8 hours (overnight) to port my number from the corporate plan.
I'm thrilled with my decision. I love the look, feel and quality of the GNex..and the step up in speed and smoothness from my Fascinate (that was running CM10 nightlies) is immense! I'll probably end up using this for a year or two and pick up one of the next generation Nexus phones (maybe a Google/Motorola Nexus?), skipping the LG N4.

Apple only have iTunes to keep their followers an google needs to sort out their sh1t an make their play music global so we can all switch to Google completely.

Really? You think I haven't used a retina iphone? I have, quite a bit. Yeah, it's good, but bleh color and bleh black level, and come on, minuscule in size. Way worth the tradeoff of pentile thanks, especially at these resolutions. I would agree with the old 480x800 pentiles, but 320 ppi is damn small, and the downsides to pentile are hard to see at best. So, in the real world the Nexus screen imo looks much better.
Especially while looking at pictures or watching movies. The GNex is amazing compared to iphone 4's 'it's sharp but meeh'.
