Hey fellas,
I finally made the switch again over to android.
I have been contemplating this for quite some time now and I just had to do it with the Nexus at $350 & I can not wait for it to arrive later this week. + i missed the xda community
I was a former Captivate owner then jumped over to the iphone 4s for a test and now I had to come back. Cant wait to start flashing roms (a little rusty since im sure things have changed in flashing techniques since I left) so a lot of reading to catch up on :good:
Never been a fan of touchwiz or any carrier implemented interface over android so this will be a great change having a pure google device for once.
Also what would be the best cheap case I should get ?????????
Just wanted to introduce myself on the Nexus forum and hope to be pretty active here
UPDATE: I ordered it on Saturday Oct 6th around 3pm ....anybody order it recently ? How long did it take for it to arrive because I haven't gotten any update as of yet??
Plus today being Columbus day I think there it wont be shipped out till tomorrow?
Welcome! This is my favorite stop for smartphone info...
The gnex has been my favorite android phone. The screen size paired with SwiftKey made for an easy transition from my droid 2's qwerty keyboard.
Your gsm version will get better battery life than sprint / verizon. I would suggest bugless beast with trinity kernel, screebl beta, extended battery, cpu spy, and better battery stats.
Good luck.

I know even when I didn't have an android I would still come and browse around XDA to see what I was missing hah...
& Great appreciate the advice, I will def look into that...
Goto diztronics and get a tpu for about $10.
...
Make sure you get a screen protector. Citigeeks has them for 5 bucks. Best 5 bucks I've ever spent

I can say 100% that the battery life is better on the unlocked gsm model then sprint or verzion. I had the sprint gnex for four months. i got tried of thier data speeds so i cancelled my contract and since my brother was ditching his unlocked gnex for the iphone 5. i got his phone and went to att
i know a new nexus is coming but i will still keep this phone. i absolutely love it. the battery difference is night and day for me.

I was thinking about holding off but I heard there were rumors it will be manufactured by LG? which I do not like as much. Also the $ was a influential factor, I can't justify spending $500+ on a phone so thought I would dive in now with the great reviewe's I've read.
Trying to sell my iphone for 300+ so it will basically be a trade off for me..
& thank you all for the comments. I have already ordered a case and screen protector from eBay so now i just sit and wait for it all to arrive :fingers-crossed: (the hardest part)

Hello everyone my brother got this phone for me for my birthday and I havn't used it yet till I receive my case that I have order from incipio and case-mate. Does the phone have battery issues? Cause I see alot of people here want to buy the extended battery. How is the screen? Do I need screen protector? Should I keep it or sell it get galaxy s2? Any advice would be much appreciated

Every phone has problems. The battery is fine on the GSM version. You will probably want a screen protector. Everyone wants the extended battery because it is bigger and hardly adds any bulk to the phone.

My GN has spectacular battery life. I haven't been on stock long enough to do a comparison, but a good custom rom + good kernel will result in spectacular battery life. The screen itself is great but has the negative properties of Super AMOLED screens. Still, at 20%+ brightness it is the most beautiful screen I have ever seen on a phone. A friend of mine actually just switched from his GS2 to the GN and he loves it. Actually upset he didn't switch earlier

Officially starts Jan 10.
CES would be worth waiting for if phones are released during CES.
However, they're just announced there... then you have to wait months until they actually hit the market
The thing is that whatever is being announced at the CES won't be available for the next few months.
Edit: ninja'd

And no matter what, they won't be a Nexus!
What a nice brother you have there. No, the battery will last like other high end smart phones after first few charges. Even greater battery life if you install custom kernels.
I don't recommend you going back to S2 as S3 is coming out in a few months and your s2 is going to be outdated by a year.
I personally like my GNex, but its up to you for what you like.
I'm coming from an LG revolution on Verizon, ill admit it's plagued with issues. The main reason I liked it was locking in my unlimited 4g data, and it handles wifi tether somewhat well. Anyway
Seeing prices on an off contract Verizon GN ($200-300) makes me consider buying one outright to replace. Doesn't help my revolution has a crack in the glass (not screen). Are there any considerations I should make beyond what I find reading out of reviews and going by user experiences? I'm so far happy with all that I'm seeing, and the caveats aren't big for me, such as omitting Google wallet and it having a pentile display. Ill bet it's miles ahead of my revolution (plain LCD 800x480). I have the extended battery for my revolution and will most likely soon after buying a GN go for the same, but I want to also hear from the xda community. Thanks all in advance.

Do it. Seriously. Its a great time to be holding a gnex.
But definitely get some form of screen protection immediately. Preferably a case of some kind, as this phone is like a wet bar of soap.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Nah. I used to use the dual incipio case, but the slimness just cannot be covered up! Just slap a screen protector and you're golden... unless you're really clumsy. But yes, get the GNex, flash Jelly Bean, and you will be convulsing on the ground struck by awesomeness (if that makes sense? )
I just got my gnex from eBay. And this phone is so awesome! I am coming from a epic touch 4g where the phone specs should be a slight wash but I am digging this phone sooooo much more

This phone pwns!!
So much development too.
The phone is great. A few days with it and you'll wonder how you ever lived with a smaller screen.
The stock experience isn't bad, but unlocking the boot loader and rooting couldn't be easier so you'll be up and running with new Roms all the time.
I'm quite enjoying mine, but it is slick and has a tendency to want to slide out of your hand. Get a case and an extended battery.
It does get warm near the top when browsing the net but its a big deal. Anyway off to work I go, get the damn phone you'll have no regrets.

Thanks all for the support! Forgot just how free and open nexus devices are. Is there a particular extended battery and case go for? I noticed an off brand 3800mah with cover (same company also makes suitable cases) for $20, didn't look like a half bad company at least. I know batteries can be hit or miss. Also, does the (insert power control widget w/wifi tether button) trick still work for that? Atm I use wifi tether and by sheer luck it works in AP mode, vs adhoc, which I much prefer. Also any particular big pros to rooting besides jellybean? I only really rooted my revolution to remove bloat, extend battery and use wifi tether. Afaik with the nexus, there's no particular bloat being vanilla android, battery is more solid than my phone, and if that tether trick works then no root needed for that with what I'm reading.

DON'T BUY SKETCHY BATTERIES!!!
Buy only genuine Samsung extended battery or from a somewhat legit company, like Mugen power.
Sketchy batteries present a high risk of breaking your phone.
Quick tip from you guys.
Is it worth to trade a S2 for a gnex?

That phone seems a little large...and im not sure the stylus will be useful to me...specially once i load CM or something on it...wont that stylus become useless with an AOSP rom?
Im eyeing the Optimus G(though i hear it has a locked boot loader which means no roms)..and the Nexus 4...I have to upgrade by dec..Cause a friend is willing to pay 400 for my SII + Mugen battery + case, which covers my remaining balance on this device with my carrier

Just go and get a Gsm Gnex, here in Europe, it sells around 200/230 euros, which is quite a lot, if you consider the price for a Nexus 4 on the Play Store. But, the lack of N4 made the second hand prices improve. And it is still worth it, because the Gnex runs 4.2 very well.

Its honestly 2 reasons the GSM Nexus is high.
#1 The Nexus4 has been out of stock a lot recently and demand for Nexus devices has gone up
#2 People who were waiting on the next Nexus to switch to Prepaid were disappointed with the N4. I am one of those. It is a decent upgrade, but honestly not a big enough one. The loss of OTG, MHL, the camera that isn't much better then the Gnex (biggest downer in my book), the all glass back, LG's lackluster quality throughout time, no official AOSP support yet.... The list goes on.
For a lot of us the Galaxy Nexus is still the best Nexus device out currently

Good deal, but isn't that locked to Sprint network though? You'll end up paying more with their ridiculous contracts.
One of the main reasons I'm returning my new Sprint Gnex and buying a more expensive unlocked GSM and make the switch to Tmobile $30 prepaid plan. It's cheaper in the long run for sure and I won't be tied to a contract. Just my thoughts, of course.

Im gonna have to pass. I made the mistake of buying the Slimline for my OG N7 and it was terrible. Left marks on the screen and practically fell apart. And I hardly even used the flippin case. Only put it on when I was traveling about. I had it for about 5 months, and by the 4rth month it was already fraying at the edges.
I had the same problems with the slim case. I have had the revolution for my nexus 7 for a long time and it's in Greddy shape.

PS. I trust My N4 with a Poetic Atmosphere.

Thanks for the update. Any idea how OK can get them to honor that price instead of the $20 I already ordered out at?
As far as the cases go I really, really like the one that I have for my nexus 7. I was looking for a defender case but I wasn't about to spend $70 on one. I haven't really been happy with defender cases lately anyways. After buying one for my note 2 I'll never buy one again.
The revolution case is defender like, can be had for less than half the cost and the button press is easy and it feels good in hand. I bought one of the first runs and it had the blurry screen protector. I contacted poetic and they sent me two replacements..... It took a month or so to get them made amnd to me but they made good. While I was waiting I just knocked the one out and installed a stock on one on the screen.
Anyways ever since I got the new front its been on, clear and nice and I don't think twice about letting my toddler use the tablet.
