I loved miui. The speed, the look, the feel. But i hate the audio issues. The Mic would often not work and the music also didn't work sometimes. Also every other camera besides the sense camera sucks. Basically i use my phone to take pictures, listen to music and make phonecalls. Since I could not do any of those things perfectly I had no choice but to switch to sense 3.0 BAMF . No camera can compare to the speed and quality of the sense camera. Plus the video works perfectly. And there was no stupid half green preveiw after you take a picture. The music works perfectly. With dolby srs. And so does the Mic. The only thing that sucks is how slow sense is. If quadrant is any factor- 2565 in sense 4190 in miui. But with everything working in sense you really can't compare the two.

quadrant means next to nothing. Personally I am running gingerbang sense and it seems quite fast. Not aosp fast but obviously no sense rom is as lightweight as an aosp rom. Check out gingerbang though its definately my favorite sense rom right now.
edit: by the way the title of this thread made me smile, I thought maybe you were looking for some support because your girl dumped you lol
Up the picture quality to 8mb and the half green preview disappears.

Lol. Love your header.
Sense speeds up if you turn off animations. Try it. You may be surprised.
I love AOSP - but on the original Incredible. This phone can handle Sense well.
And Quadrant means poo. My tablet scores a 6800 on Antuntu - who cares. lol.
So here I am planning to flash CM9 this weekend, and of course JB gets released! Not that its a bad thing of course, but it just makes my decision that much harder. Does anyone have suggestions as to which I should go with and why? Please only post constructive advice with some facts behind your answer, no "JB FTW!" comments since this is a serious question.
Jelly Bean. The only thing I miss from CM9 is the integrated LED notification chooser. Light Flow isn't working correctly for me on JB.
For all the reasons here: http://www.android.com/whatsnew/ and more JB is a no brainer.
Maybe you should flash both and decide for yourself! I would go with cm cause jb is pretty stock rite now and if you want options jb will come up short vs cm..jb is very nice I ran it for a few hours but I can't handle the stock feel..
I find that most of the customizations in cm9 and aokp don't get used by me.
I have been running between aokp and cm9 for months. They are great smooth stable roms with great customizations.. If those tweaks are something you are really into then maybe stay.
Project butter is no lie.. JB is (for me) smoother in every day actions than cm9/aokp. New notification ui is great. Google Now is awesome and practical. You can still run custom kernels and over clock and have root... Just not those more in depth tweaks yet.
JB is the future... May as well go there as soon as possible.

Coming from CM9 to JB, I'd say CM9 for features, JB for speed.
There are some CM9 features that I really miss on JB. T9 dailer, lock screen weather, and lock screen shortcuts. But JB is really buttery smooth.
That being said, once the source code of JB is released next month and CM9 is updated to JB, I'll go back go CM9.
Are custom launchers working on JB?
I'm on cm9 but damn keen to try JB. Started d/l last night but stopped it at 10mb down. I'm stuck using 3g atm and a 250mb d/l will use up about a quarter of my months data.
Nova works on jb... Apex crashes for me.. But stock jb is smoother than both.

Once the JB source is released it will be in CM. I installed JB to give it a try but for the long run I am going to run CM.
I liked JB but there are still some apps that I couldn't get working most notably GTA3.

Nova has some quirks on JB. I went back to the stock JB launcher for the time being.
JB for now. The new features are amazing and it's butter smooth.

Jelly Bean. MUCH smoother, Live Wallpapers are lag free again (FINALLY), much better boot animation (CM is way too choppy, and the stock ICS one is just... no.) better camera, Google Now is freaking amazing, I could go on.
I hadn't even tried live wallpapers. Very nice. I have never been able to use them due to lag.

I think the only reason to use Sense is for the Rosie.
I like the keyboard. Widgets are cool. Sense camera app takes better pictures too.

For some reason, with all the added bloat and all, the Sense 4 ROM namely UKB runs smoother than the AOSP ROMs in my opinion. The AOSP ROMs are smooth at the beginning, but they start getting sluggish soon. Sense 4 gets sluggish too, but I find it manageable. Plus it doesn't have a few bugs that annoy me on ICS ROMs.
In my opinion the Sense camera and the beautiful widgets are the only advantages.
AOSP is so much faster and more responsive...period. And many things about Sense are illogical and frustrating.
I guess you could say I like AOSP more because it makes more...sense

Except for sense 4
Sense vs AOSP is all about personal preference. The only way you'll figure out which you prefer is to try a couple of each and see what makes you happy.
AOSP. End of Discussion for me.

HTC Sense is good for camera. I found No autofocus without HTC sense.
Anybody know good ROM with autofocus without HTC sense .
A while ago, I would've said that Sense is more responsive in the keyboard department. But with the latest Sense ROMs I've used (UKB, IC Tazz, ArcticIcsed, EclipticSense, etc.), I find that the Sense ROMs don't feel as responsive as AOSP ROMs when the keyboard is concerned. Plus, Sense focuses too much on eye candy and is too flashy for me.
So the only benefit Sense has that's better than AOSP is the camera since the features and quality excels compared to AOSP.
If only HTC removed a lot of the bloat save for the essential ones and made the rest downloadable at the Play Store or HTC Hub.
But still, I think the devs are truly awesome for making the awesome ROMs I've tried and used.

I think that sense 4 looks great. However it uses a lot of RAM, and can be slow on lower end devices.
But ICS/JB looks even better compaired to vanilla gingerbread. And its always very responsive (Even after it starts to slow down).
If the sense 3.6 ICS OTA can give me at least 250mb of RAM. Then ill go with that. (If the OTA can get 250mbs of RAM, I know that we could get 100% functional sense 4 that has at least 200mbs of RAM.)
Anything else ill use CM 10.
This is all depending on if we get ICS.

I actually hated the stock rom with my Dinc2 and that was the only reason I rooted my phone and just not a fan of the sense roms. Since rooting my phone I have tried CM 7.2, CM 9, and I am currently using Paranoid Android 1.98. I liked ICS but after using the Hybrid JB I am hooked. Granted there are a few bugs with the JB but as far as looks and smoothness I just can't move away from it. I have yet to try a Miui rom...I hear they are great too.

I think this speaks for itself when it comes to sense4.
Sent from my vivow using xda app-developers app
Yeah, using RAM usage as a metric of system performance seems a tad naive. I experienced sluggishness on both Sense and AOSP even with loads of free RAM. On the other side, I also observe that while Sense 4 may use more RAM to keep all their fancy graphics/textures and stuff in memory, I also experienced a much more snappy response on Rosie. I do feel that Rosie is a far better launcher than the ones bundled with AOSP ROMs... After loading a lot of widgets, those launchers start to stutter a bit too often, but the stuttering is infrequent with Rosie. However, I am high on Sense4 of late and I am possibly a bit biased. But, isn't that expected in a thread asking a question of personal preference? As far as the standard bloat is concerned, as noted above I too manage to run the Sense 4 ROM with an average of 200-250 MB of free RAM. I do remember AOSP taking about as much. My only criticism of Sense 4 is the poor Email app, but that is readily rectified using the stock Email app from ICS. My gripe with AOSP is the lack of an inbuilt timer (I use it often), the lack of a FM app (I rarely use it but as a matter of principle, I frown upon Google and the whole AOSP front for not being able to make a working FM app... the one in CM7 is just way too buggy that and there isn't one useful app on the market either)...
I'll be back with more gripes later. Peace.
hey,
i always had the confusion about which rom was better for our phone, so i decided to make a list of pros' and cons' of both 2.3.5 sense and 4.0/4.1 roms
2.3.5 HTC SENSE 2.1 and 3.5
PROS'
1. Complete hardware compatibility, which means no hardware bugs like camera, bluetooth etc.
2. FB and Twitter integration builtin, which automatically syncs the contact pictures which make them look better.
3. The Rosie launcher(stock HTC launcher) looks beautiful and has good number of widgets.
4. HTC SENSE has accelerometer based gestures like filp to silent, in pocket mode etc.
5. Office and other utilities directly downloadable form HTC HUB.
CONS'
1. Not the latest and greatest in the world of android.
2. Not as customizable as CM builds.
3. Can't change the pixel density due to non agreeing HTC framework. (you can, but it makes the apps go wonky).
CM9/10 (ICS AND JELLYBEAN)
PROS'
1. Extremely good battery life.
2. Tons of customization options like changable theme, pixel density etc.
3. Many custom roms such as MIUI and Vanilla based roms.
4. JB is particularly fast.
5. ICS exclusive apps.
CONS'
1. Bad quality of pictures taken by camera due to unavailability of lib files ( the amazing devs have had to apply some nasty hacks to get them working).
2. Some apps may forceclose (that depends on the usage, although its getting rarer and rarer.)
3. No builtin Fb and Twitter integration, so one should use third party apps.
4. Not as good as SENSE aesthetically.
CONCLUSION
in a nutshell, if you want fast stable fussfree operator, go for Sense. If you want to have complete control of what your phone does and want to mod it till it begs for mercy (like me ) , then go for cm9/10
FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE CONFUSED BETWEEN ICS AND JB
1. JB is wayyyyy smoother than ICS
2. JB has no native support for a2sd so you must flash data2sd script
3. Playstore apps depend on the dpi settings.. so as long as you have 160 dpi, there wont be a problem
4. JB has better battery in my opinion.
5. Both have their own bugs, but i believe ICS is more stable(marginally) but Jb is not bad.
6. Both cameras are good enough for high-light photography,.
7. They record videos, but you need to use a thirdparty app to access videos..
modpunks JB rom has a working camera,..
I prefer JB over ICS anyday..
hope it helps..
Cheers!!

it does, try taking pictures of dark objects. the shutter and the flash are not synced in cm9. so the shutter operates a splits econd after it is supposed to, thereby giving shadowy objects. on the other hand 2.3.5 is much much better.. ill try to upload some screen shots as soon as i can..

Don't forget CM 7.2 - fast, stable, customisable everything works (except possibly usb tethering), only it's Gingerbread so people find that a bit dull. Still if you want a ROM that uses all your phones features without annoying bugs and without Sense getting in the way and hogging your RAM then it's a winner.
there are ways in which you can improve the speed of sense roms and increase the battery life of ICS roms. I mean there is a way to make both GB and ICS equal. but that would be hard. Its definitely down to the usage patterns of various individuals. Whether you use data2sd, link2sd, app2sd or not, your brightness levels and et-al. Using whatever2sd reduces battery life. Its always been the bone of contention, this debate whether to use something which our phone has been designed to run well or to use something which google keeps on improving....

They are alright, but not as great as the hardware is able to capture. I'm not sure about how all that stuff works but surely if we can get good quality on an older version wouldn't it be able to be ported forward? If you zoom in a bit there is noticeable noise in the picture.

When I installed CM9 the phone app didn't work - reflashed and it still didn't work. call me old fashioned, but I want a phone that can make and receive calls, not a tiny tablet. Also I want a phone that can take half decent photos.
When (and if) CM9 becomes fully functional and stable on the WFS, I'll give it another go because it looks nice and runs well if you don't mind the bugs...

Hi all,
I'm currently looking for the fastest / best performing HTC Desire Rom.
As I'm playing Ingress, its really slow and closes very often. I was thinking flashing a Rom without Sense, as it would probably perform better.
I guess 2.3 is faster than the new built? Or is it the other way around?
Let me know if you have any suggestions, or if I should use a 2.3 no-sense Rom?

I would recommend AOKP VJ 4.2.2 Jelly Bean v2.1. In my eyes it is one of the fastest, smoothest and most stable CM 10.1 based ROMs at the moment. I appreciate that it constantly keeps the mem free above 100mb.
i'd say Mildwild roms are the fastest and most stable.
Been using them for a long time now....still very pleased with them.
They have a few small issues, but overall...the fastest roms available if u ask me.
Currently running MW9.5 Redux, but used MW8 before....i find MW8 a little bit faster and better...it's got a few more options than MW9.5
...hoping for and upgrade of the MW8 version....
Wanted to say thx for all your suggestions. I'm running 4.2.2 VJ CM 10.1 now, and its awesome.
Pretty fast, and i got plenty of RAM, so Ingress does not close when minimizing (not everytime at least)
Thx! :highfive:
