ScreenOn app - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There is a very annoying to off the screen while I am reading the webpage or docs with other apps. I use ScreenOn app for my S2 and works correctly. Now I switch to Note 2 and ScreenOn seems not to work with it. Is there any other app to work with Note 2? Thanks!

Why don't you use the stay awake setting that is inbuilt...

why not increase the screen timeout to 10minutes ?

I still use Screebl. As long as the phone is not laying flat the screen will stay on. I prefer Screebl over the Samsung Smart Stay app that watches your eyes as that app doesn't work in all lighting conditions. Also there are times I want the screen to stay on when I am not looking at the phone. With Screebl I just prop it up a bit and it stays on.
There is one other time I like my screen to stay on that Screeble does not work and that is when I am on a call. Because I mute and unmute during conference calls a lot I perfer the phone to just stay lit up durning calls. For this I use the app Call Light. Call Light leaves the phone backlight on during calls no matter the placement of the phone.

Thanks for your reminder. I have learnt it but did not know Note 2 has this built-in feature. It works like a charm!

Yes it does. Works good enough for me that I have my screen timeout set at 30 seconds. I've found very very few situations in which it doesn't work.

where do you think all these third party apps got the idea from

Use screen time out for 1 min. ..cpu clocks high during the very brief stay awake check. ... less times it checks. ..more battery is saved

Samsung quick glance

Hi guys,
Did any body nanaged go get this function working. Even though the appropriate setting is ticked I can't get the the phone light up when switched off!
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I hope ur not turning the phone off while testing this function. .. The screen had to be locked. ..
Anyway. .. You have to swipe your hand over the light sensor while screen is off

Place the phone on flat surface after locking it.
Now swipe your hand over your phone screen from top to bottom without touching the screen.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Just hover your hands over the light sensor, but you have to do it kind of slowly and also it response at least 1s after you have hovered your hand over your phone. It's not really that useful of a function, more of a gimmick.
I do want to ask, do these motion functions really drain the battery a lot? As this means the motion sensor is always on.

Its a cr*p feature -- or at least the implementation is. You need to sort of hover or cup your hand over the sensors and move it away slowly. Then sometimes it 'works', which means if you do it right about a second or two later the screen slowly wakes up and shows some info. All this takes 4-5 seconds, in which time you could have quickly switched the screen on and off anyways in lesser time.
Gimmick, as someone has pointed out above.
Not only your hand, but anything that cover the light sensor.
Try to calibrate the gyroscope

Hi, this is my first post here.
Please try to calibrate your gyroscope
To do this go to Advance settings and calibrate it.
I have question too about this QUICK glance (but actually slow glance)
I like this to use to check the time specially during night.
But it is really not quick when I use mine and my friend sister told me that hers is fast.
Does somebody know how to do it make it fast?
kind of a useless feature IMO. doesn't display much in the quick glance screen. much easier to just press the home key.
Yeah, ur right the home button is faster. But I dont believe this is crap feature, it depends in situation. In my side I use this glance feature during night and wake up to check the time not hurting the eye for glare. And in theater also you can use this to check the time, it is really respectfull if you try not to distract others inside the theater.

I think it's useful for checking the time at night.
I just quickly pass my hand over the front and a second later time is illuminated for a few seconds
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
guys, it works fine. just hover your hand in front of the sensor just in and out just like that all in less than1 second for me. it works everytime perfectly. very convenient. can someone confirm if this drains massive amounts of battery or negligible.
After trying the feature several times -- during which it did not work -- I then went in and did the gyroscope calibration. Then went back in, turned Motion on, and turned Quick Glance on. Now it works.
It was working for me up until last week, now my light sensor and or my proximity sensor seem to have stopped working all together. I am unable to get it to work at all. Is there any way to increase the light sensor sensitivity?
Works fine here.

It works just fine, but my problem is I like to have a screen timeout of 10 minutes, and manually turn my phone off when I want. Half the time I would click it off and set it down, it would immediately wake back up because my hand was over/near the sensor as I set it down.
Works perfect here whatever screen timeout I have set.
Remember that the phone had to be perfectly still and possibly on a level surface for it to work.
Regarding using battery I've read that the n2 has a slower processor dedicated to the motion features do doesn't fire up the main processor when using these features.
Sent from my Samsung Note II.
This feature is ok, but it's something a lot of people can live without. It'd be more impressive for us if Samsung extended this to other controls in their main apps, such as allowing this gesture when you receive a call. Wave your hand over the phone and it'll automatically pick up the call in speakphone mode. The Pantech Sky Vega had this feature when it launched last year and something like this is super useful if you're working with your hands (getting them dirty).
http://youtu.be/dG8tfaJswuY
It works for me to.
It also works for the flip cover. So when I just open the cover the glance appears then swipe the screen to unlock..no hard buttons to push
The question though.
I how can we tell if it does drain the battery.?

how to prevent screen from dimming?

I have the "stay awake" under developers options ticked, and I have smart stay un-ticked, I have the brightness on max, when charging the screen would go dim after a while but would stay awake. How can I get the screen to stay awake at full brightness?
Thanks.
As far as i know, it's not possible under normal circumstances.. Try 3rd party apps to switch between infinite timeout and your custom timeout.. Touch and swap, it's easy..

is this not a bug?
When they have the option "stay awake" they should let people stay awake on desire brightness.
Check that Settings>Display>Auto adjust screen tone is unticked.

I NEVER chain down my phone to a wall charger I only charge the batteries separately but I do need the phone to stay awake when docked in the car (even when I am not using the GPS navigator) and the "stay awake" setting under developers options is useless to me as it resets at every reboot so I use an app called StayAwake which keeps the phone awake whenever it's charging.
I have SmartStay off, Auto adjust screen tone off and auto-brightness on and the phone doesn't seem to dim, you may want to try this setup. BTW how long do you actually mean by "after a while"?

Yes, some of you may feel so. But I don't. So I guess it totally depends on individuals who use the feature. 3rd party apps are best to overcome this minor annoyance.
Unchecking screen tone won't help it. I just confirmed again.
《Samsung Galaxy Note II ★ GT-N7100》
I would highly recommend you not do that though. Full brightness and leaving the screen on static is a recipe for disaster, your screen life will be reduced considerable. Why would you want to do that? It's not a "bug", it's there for a reason.
use an always bright 3rd app?
Yeah. Use 3rd party apps which would modify screen timeout to infinity or any other huge number. I use widgetsoid. Very handy. Has many other toggles too.

Toggle from simplistic framework.

what is simplistic framework? Been hearing it a lot on Note 2 forum.
It is a giant all in one mod.
But you won't actually find out it's beauty unless you donate and get the control app.

[Q] 'Quiet Hours'

Every night, I mute my notifications on my 360, but still when I move (rollover, shift, etc.) my watch screen will turn on, lighting up my room. I've tried darker faces and it helps a bit, but it is still quite bright in a dark room. Is there any app out there that will disable the accelerometer screen on feature of the device? I still need the accelerometer to work at night, just not turn on the screen.

That's weird. My watch is always connected and I usually turn my ambient screen on the device to off when the watch dims on the charger. I never get notifications on the watch when docked / charging and the screen doesn't wake either. Anyone else?

Ah sorry lol.
Guess it didn't make sense to me that he was leaving it on while sleeping. :silly:
Actually hes using it for sleep tracking and I do as well. I bet the troll doesnt even own a 360.
I'd also like to know if anyone has made something to do what he's asking.
Another cool thing about sleeping with a smartwatch is the ability to have it vibrate to wake you up without disturbing anyone else
What app is being used for sleep tracking?
Huh? Wut?
Do I need to come in and keep the peace?
Knock it off and be civil please.

I'm using Sleep as Android for the sleep tracking with the cloud backup option. it's a 14 day trial, $5 to buy, but well worth it considering the 3rd party integration and features.

Touch Key Light Duration

With my Note 2, 3, and 4DE there is a setting to adjust the amount of time the two front key lights stay on. I usually have them set for 6 seconds, and sometimes have them set for Always on. But when I was trying out a Note 7 a few days ago in a Verizon store, the two key lights were turning off in about a second. I looked in the Settings Menu under Display (where it should be) and didn't see it listed. I hope this was just an oversight on my part and there is a way to adjust the key light time.
My S7 Edge didn't have those settings either, but I used this app without any issues.

I originally used it to keep the lights always on when I was applying a screen protector, but it still works for different durations. Should still work with the Note 7, but if you want to be sure you can try it out in a store to be 100% sure.

The Notes 5 is the same. This is what I use to adjust how long the button lights stay on.

Wow, that is pretty stupid that Samsung took away that user setting. I didn't check to see if the Note 7 had different time values for the display (I use 2 min), but I'm surs that would still be there.
I just tried this app on my Note 4 and worked . Was able to increase the key lights from 6 sec to 10 seconds. Wish I would of know about it sooner....or a Developer include it in with their Custom ROM.

[APP] NotifyBuddy - Notification light when screen is off

Just download it on the Playstore NotifyBuddy. The app developer XanderApps made an amazing simple app to bring back a simple and beautiful notification light when the screen is off. Easy to configure, allow all the permissions, pick the apps you want it to show the light for, choose a color, and that's it. You can tinker with the settings for the duration of the blink, how long it takes to blink again, and how long it blinks for, which is a big one for me because other apps do not let it go for very long from what I've seen. The developer also said that there is screen in burn protection built-in! The only thing is AOD settings get disabled when there is a notification as well as screen-off fingerprint unlock and a double tap of the screen is needed to wake the phone up, or alternatively press the power button.
No notification light is an issue I had found with the note 10 + coming from the Note 8 and this is resolved for the most part
Lemmi know what you guys think about it !
Does it work with AoD?
When a notification arrives, does the fingerprint scanner works?

Did you guys read what OP wrote?
And from yesterday (or i have not noticed it earlier) when the display goes dark, it shows a message that no pictures are selected (however i have no picture-style aod choosen)
Only works if i press the power button on my s10+ any ideas why?

Haven't logged in in awhile but it can be used with or without edge lighting. I just tested with a 15 second delay (found in the notify buddy settings) and it works.
Have a nice day !
I like the idea of it but I don't like that it doesn't work as well there like when I plug in the charger it doesn't allow the display to turn off until I manually do it
Hmmm, I just tried on my Note10 plus. Plugged in charger, screen timed out at the 30 seconds I have it set to time out, charging led was present.
Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Fingerprint unlock doesn't seem to work unless you tap the screen to wake and then fingerprint unlock. Also the position seems to change slightly every time the notification blinks. I was putting it around the camera hole and the first blink is perfect around the camera but then the others are off to either side with each blink. Once these are fixed and I make sure there's no battery drain, I would probably buy the premium version.
