Hi everyone,
I was hoping someone could shed some light onto one quick question about installing a new modem. I'm on CM9 w/CWM. I currently have the FF18 baseband modem.
Which modems am I able to install from the wiki page? There's a list of TONS of them and I'm just trying to figure out if I'm able to try any of them or if my particular phone requires particular modem drivers (since it came with FF18). I hope my question makes sense.
Thank you
You can try any of them except FK09 and FK23 -- those are meant for the TW Jelly Bean builds. I used FF18 for some time but I'm on FI27 now and it seems to be a-ok.
If you are gonna try different modems make sure to update you PRL and profile. Which CM9 doesn't support. Use the FF18 temp boot.

Thank you for your response, Mac of York. I want to try the FI27 modem you're talking about but it's not on my list. The list of modems I'm looking at is http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II/SPH-D710/Modems. Did you get yours from somewhere else? And is this a page of modems where I can go out and install whichever ones I want except the ones for JB builds?

Hi,
Can you explain this a little more? I'm on CM9 and you said I need to do a PRL and profile update but CM9 doesn't allow this? What's the FF18 temp boot/how do I perform this?

OK, CM being an AOSP type ROM doesn't support dialer codes and PRL / Profile updates. The temp boot which can be found in the dev section. Allows you temporarily boot into FF18 stock TW ROM for one boot up. (This us to do the PRL/Profile update) next time you boot up it will be back to CM9. This way you can change you modem and be able to make sure its running correctly (PRL/Profile).

I thought this phone was on 2.3, but it was on 2.1 (or 2.2) DI18. I updated CWM to 5.0.2.7 and then flashed CleanGB MTD.
When I reboot, I cannot get service, and airplane mode switches really fast between on and off.
I believe it may be the modem, so I am trying to upgrade the modem from DI18 to EC05 so I can update to EL30. However, the current DI18 to ECO5 flashable zip I have is giving me an error (Status 7).
Aside from from the modem, any other thoughts on how to fix it?
Thanks.

You can just flash a modem through odin . I think the newest official tar is el30 so here it is : EL30 Modem.tar place this in the PDA box in odin make sure nothing but auto-reboot is checked and hit start. Make sure you have a trusty cable and not a stock one. You could also need to update your prl as well as your profile so do that wait a minute or so and reboot the phone. You can do this in the about phone section where it says updates or something similar.. i dont know cuz im on cm9
It could also be a bad download of CleanGb so you can always try redownloading and reflashing that.

I would say coming from Eclair, he might want to stick to official 2.3 Touchwiz for awhile rather than go to AOSP ROMs.
Hm
No matter what you choose to flash, I would of Odin'd the latest Official Tar, and then done a profile update, prl update, etc. THEN Flash the rom/poison of your choice. IF you do end up going to whatever MTD rom, there's an EL30 SD Temp flashable build on Epic CM9 Blog that can let you update your profile on MTD Roms that support kexec, which I think most, if not all, do by now. That way you can update your profile, prl, etc without having to Odin back. Glad to hear that a modem update fixed it!

Its not unstable at all its come a LONG way since alpha. I personally run aokp 31 with my samurai kernel because aokp has more options than cm9. But both are equal in stablilty =].

I SED TO USE ALL CALKULINS ROMS BUR A LITTLE CONFUESED WITH THE DIFF LETTERS NOW
ROM ] Calkulin's E4GT 2 v1.6 [ ICS l FE22 l Tweaked l Battery Saver Script
Yes you can do the one click with no issues. As far as the ICS issues, what are you referring to? Been running M'ICS for two weeks and no issues other than the visual issue with long press home to clear running apps.
El29 came after eg30. EL29 is the official GB update. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
All in all, I'm loving ICS. The stock kernel/android recovery has the potential to possibly brick your phone. But they have safe kernels out now. Its all up to you on what you want to do. Just make sure you enjoy your phone.

Wrong one click. Look for sfhub's el29 rooted one click. You wont need to be in recovery for one click, but download mode instead. Need to hold vol down + power. Press up when prompted. Open oneclick on computer, plug in usb, hit start on odin, voila. Back to el29.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
The one click FF18 is the ICS build. If you want GB you need EL29. Wipe cache doesn't unroot. There is a process to unroot or Odin el29 no root. The no data means it won't wipe your data. Be careful it can cause issues. Use a back up app to save your current apps.
In the sticky for this section there is a wiki on rom/kernels/modems. Click on roms. It has the link for el29 full or no data.

FF18! FF02! FE21, FE16, FE14, FE10, FE07, FD24, EL29, EL26, EG30, EK02
those are leaked builds of ICS. From after el29 GB to before FF18 ICS. To back up apps use titanium back up or my back up pro (in the market) OTA = over the air. if you want try another ICS rom. Most are stable. Just one click back to el29 and flash new ICS from there. I trust the devs here. They produce quality work. for you flash agats63 kernel with safe recovery. Then from there you can try the best ICS rom for what you want/need.

dude I'm not trying to be rude but I've seen two of your threads now and you reallly should spend some time reading before messing around with this phone as there is the potential to brick. I have a thread called welcome to the e4gt stickied in general, you may want to start there as it address a lot of the things you've been asking about. Sfhubs posts about his Odin one clicks will also clear a lot up... should you have more questions use the "search this forum" option to look for what it is you need help with, chances are there's already a thread about it..... lastly I wouldn't avoid ff18 just because someone anecdotally told you there are issues with it, with exception of a few very post happy negitive nancys around here the vast majority of us who have been using ff18 or ff18 based builds since the leak well over a month ago have not had issues with it

If I'm not mistaken you have to flash back to either stock or a gb rom that allows updating prl and stuff, update then flash back, but I also remember reading something bout long work arounds, you may have to do some Googling to find those

+1. Used Mobile ODIN to temporary boot to EL29 stock rom just last week & updated my PRL/fixed my GPS lock fine via this method. After watching/rewatching the video just to make sure I had all my files, it took maybe about 10 minutes at the most to do it and reflash back to CM9.
Hope you get that PRL update working OP!
In the future theres a temp el29 that was made a little while ago that'll save you some time and effort, it accomplishes the same thing....

Hey thanks everyone for the tips I really appreciate it!
I notticed that my baseband was EL29. I was supprised that it wasn't causing trouble since it's GB and I was running CM9. I was under the impression that things worked best when modem and kernel were matching.
SO I updated my modem to FF18 and the Kernel/Recovery to TWRP 2.2.1 with FF18. Once rebooted, the WiFi was broken. (can't even turn it on). So I tried FF11 and still no go. I even tried going back to EL29.
No matter what I do, I still don't have WiFi. It's very frustrating. This is pretty much the first time in 2 years with multiple phones I've been completely stumped. anyone have any advice?
You running cm9, You can't use the update profile and prl in settings. There is a work around (google is your friend) on how to do it. But I believe thats the issue. every time i flash a new modem I do update profile and update PRL. you could flash to a TW ICS rom update profile and PRL and the flash back to CM9

I've got the notification for me to update to 4.0.4 popping up every time I use my phone. I was wondering how I could possibly stop the prompts from occurring, or if there'd be an easy way to revert my phone to fully stock...without me having a backup. I've got a custom ROM installed (Blazer v4.0), so I'm guessing the answer is a no, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
My current system info for reference:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S710.10 S.EL29
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EL29-CL852097
In the event that I'm not able to restore it to stock, any info on how I can update my android through a custom ROM or something would be awesome, and of course ROM suggestions would be wonderful.
Thank you all so much for your time.

It's funny that you posted this question because I was just about to do the same too. I just flashed my phone to Blazer's 4.1 GB rom and just got the system update popup 10 minutes ago. Same setup only my modem is FI03. I had downloaded this zip file "Disable.OTA.Updates.zip" but wasn't sure if it could be used on a GB rom (downloaded it for Blazer's ICS rom, coincidentally).
I was thinking of nandroiding and then trying it out, but figure checking XDA first to be certain would a better decision.

If you want to revert back to stock, just check the android development forum. there are many posts by rwilco with different versions of stock TouchWiz. You might need to go back a bit to find GB.
the one-click files are about as easy as it gets for flashing.
I started off flashing these stock rooted updates instead of waiting for the OTA updates and haven't had an update notification since.
of course I'm on CM10 JB nights now, but still no notifications...
p.s. backups are not required, just recommended.
Just flashed the disable.ota.update zip. Phone booted up fine.
You can also just accept the update. It won't work and your phone with freeze but after pulling the battery the annoying ota is gone. I think it may come back in about a week.

Yeah, so it hasn't worked. Still getting the ota update prompt, still running Blazer v4.0 for some reason. Any ideas?
Just accept the update. It will go away and you should still have your Rom.

You need to flash an actual rom. But before you do that backup anything important and then use calkulins format all before you flash whatever rom. If you don't wipe some stuff might be broken or killing your battery. Changing the kernel won't change your rom.
