Hey all, HTC Sense has been my Favorite UI for LONG time now, recently, i`m having some sort of a bug or so.
it`s like this:
UI is OK, running fine.
i fire an App (Barcode Scanner, a Game, or pretty much ANY big App except the really small apps like calculator, market access..)
when i hit BACK button to exit from the app, i`m supposed to go the the HOME but when i`m there i find that HTC Sense is LOADING (just like if it was FORCED closed or something) of course, i DO NOT get the dialog which says "HTC Sense isn`t responding [Force Close]" it`s just loading... and that has become VERY annoying... to wait for Sense to load after every app i use!!!
any solutions?
Notes:
Desire 2.2.1 LeeDrOiD 2.3b
with esk0Glass transparent theme on top
[of course i had NO PROBLEMS what so ever with those 2 installed together in the past, i just had the problem recently.]
i have 144 App -according to the AppDrawer- (30 of those are games *just to show off*) installed.
2GB SD card, FREE 330 MB
Free internal memory 54 MB
APP2SD+
It's not a problem with Sense. It's a problem with LeeDroid... Have Lee installed since a week now and seems like I have the same issue as you have, whereas I spent like a month with Aurax and ReflezHD and the problem did not appear.

oh ok that helps a lot. thanks.. Now at least i know where the problem is.. apparently i have to flash the last patch 2.3c .. although the changelog doesn`t say that it fixes this problem,,,,

Don`t the Devs use the Source codes or those stuff to modify it ??!!
Well, i`m not a Dev so i don`t know.. but that`s what i thought..
Most of the time reloading of Sense is caused by to low RAM, how long do you go without a reboot? It's best to reboot once a day/once every two days.
As a alternative you could also use a task killer to clear RAM but there is more setting up to do with apps you can kill and apps you should not kill. If you decide to use the taskkiller, do not use it with autokill or something similar just use it instead of the reboot.
@up - well, although your statement abot ram may be a good guide on where to seek for the problem, from what I understood my problems with Lee roms does not corelate with low ram... even reinstalled latest LeeDroid and checked - 130mb free ram and still random (well mostly about the time I finish speaking or closing the applications) FC happened... Again mpved back to Aurax and everything seems ok. I do have my own reason - reed in the polish android support forum that Lee has changed the default CPU settings and the problems disappear when you install the default sense settings. Good luck.

Hi guys,
I have question regarding my HTC Desire Z .. Ever since I rooted the phone about 1.5 years ago, and have been trying out the newer ROMs, I've slowly realized that my phone is getting slower, slower, and slower .. I'm currently using a Jellybean ROM, and its *extremely* slow ! I mean, at times I receive a call, and the ringer rings about 5-6 times, and during all this time, the phone doesn't have the juice to switch to the phone app, so that I can 'accept' the call ! Ultimately the call disconnects itself!
A friend recently suggested to me that maybe the newer ROMs are two powerful for my phone, and that I need to move to an older Android version ROM, which my Desire Z CAN handle, without this much lag !
Also, I hardly have any apps installed on my phone at all, in an attempt to keep the load low .. I also use 'Advance Task Killer' regularly to kill background apps, but it doesn't really improve anything ..
What can I do to improve the speed of my phone !? I really pisses me off to see a 10-15 second lag when I call someone !
Get rid of the task killer first of all...

i own desire z. installed flinnys 128 (jb) and everything works EXTREMELY smooth! no lag!!!!
just try it!

Task Killer is not the issue, as I only installed it the other day .. The condition was same before as well ..

I dont think it will make any difference .. I've tried many different ROMs, and its always the same condition with all ... Sometimes my phone become *so* unresponsive that I just feel like smashing it on the ground ! (When I really get upset!)
Also, on another note, when I open Advanced Task Killer, it shows me the amount of free RAM on the top .. Most of the times this value is between 60 MB ~ 100 MB, and sometimes between 100 MB ~ 140 MB .. If never seen this value go above 135 MB or so ... And Desire Z is supposed to have 512 MB of RAM
just full wipe and reflash the rom

If I do that, it will initially be fast .. Even if I install all my apps on the first day, it will still be okay in terms of speed ... But give it a week, it eventually becomes slow .. very slow! .. And the odd thing is, during this week, I don't necessary install/uninstall anything .. the phone just ****s itself in somehow ... And then from then on, it remains slow, no matter what ...
I open Google Maps, takes like 15 seconds to open .. takes another 60 seconds to go to Google Navigation, and then further lags after that ..
Basically there's a lag in *everything* !
Is there a way I can see what is slowing down the phone ?!
Also, is it true or not whether an older phone, such as Desire Z, can or cannot handle a relatively newer Android version ROM ? Maybe this is why the latest Android versions are NOT officially available for phones many times, because the manufacturer knows the device cannot handle that newer Android version ?
If your rom supports ext partitions, make sure all of yours are formatted that way. Chances are you have sopme bad apps, a logcat may hedlp determin abused wake locks or memory leaks. Also you can try downloading battery batt stats or watchdog for more infor

i had a play with elitemod ics the other day & it was defiantly slower than the GB version... it was using more or less double the ram which i suspect is the real problem.....
Yes its true the newer versions are more hungry. We touched on it in one of the andromadus threads recently. I believe the issue to be the cpu. The nexus s has the same amount of ram as us and although its not as good on there as the gnex, its still good. Having bumped my lower cpu limit a notch, its much better. I also tried a few upper limits and found that 1200 to be best as it suffers with animation under that.
But then all dz's are different. Stay on your rom and bump up the lower limits a few clicks and let us know what you think.

I've noticed the slowdowns happening with negligible CPU load and no memory constraints. I suspect a problem with the kernel. At the times it happens, the phone seems to be just doing *nothing*.

Is there any other thing I can try apart from logcat ? I installed Watchdog a few hours ago, but so far it hasn't reported anything out of the way ..
What does have ext partitions do ? How does that speed up the OS ?
Also, I'm probably going to be re-flashing another ROM soon, so please suggest me a ROM ... I'm looking for maximum longterm stability and responsiveness here, so even if a ROM isn't the newest or the most feature-filled, I can still try it out ..
And what is Superwipe (read it in another thread) ?
Normally, when I restore stuff after installing a ROM, I download a fresh copy of the app from the Store, and only restore the app's data using titanium .. is this okay ?
For the sake of starting fresh, flash the ext 4 recovery and flash mimicry as your rom. Read all suggestions in the first few post on mimicry, to flash 4ext I made a thread, you'll find it the first page or so in the general section (dzhboot or something)
Mimicry is one of the best made best performing full featured ics roms for our phones, partitioning everything to 4ext (easily done through recovery) will make it far better. Other bonus tweaks will be added in.
There (in my opinion) are beter performing gingerbread roms, but I do sugest mimicry as it is amazing and the dev has laid out a wealth of knowledge in the first few posts

I'm assuming you're referring to this thread: http://www.forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
Well this is the ROM I'm currently using, which I flashed about 2 months ago, which is giving me all these performance issues ..
I went through the first few pages, but I didn't find any instructions on 4EXT ... The only thing I found was in the OP's FAQ in the start, which said that you should apply ext by downloading 4ext from Play Store, if you get lags ..
Anywhere else I can look ?
Look in general section, somewhere in the first page I posted a thread called dzhboot on g2 or something to that extent, one of the first few posts I eplain how to flash 4ext recovery.
One of the fastest roms I have used is elitemod cm7, maybe try that

I have been wondering the same as the OP. I have been using andromadus and andromadus mimicry roms for the past few month. I tired cm9 unofficial but it was no different to mimicry in terms of lag. Currently on flinny's jb beta http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005136. Lag is not terrible but too often I am looking at a white screen waiting for something to happen.
I often experience lags opening apps like phone and browser (any browser). Phone hanging when trying to make a call is particularly annoying because my wife asks "why is your phone so ****?"
I would love to have a really smooth experience like others report but even with a fresh wipe I seem to have trouble. When I try to reduce the process limit i still seem to have too many processes running. What should i look for in logcat in terms of tracking down the problem?
Maybe 4ext will sort it out? I am very loathe to go back to a cm7 rom.
Ext4 worked really well for me to speed up my phone.. I highly recommend it.

It's gotta be a certain app your installing thats hogging all your memory, I been running mimicry ever since blk released it n have had very few slowdowns.
Never had a problem receiving/making calls 'wiping' is not the same as 'superwiping' its different then just the name, I suggest you do some reading up before flashing any more roms.

i superwipe, and i've been flashing roms since the g1. I am not seeing any particular process hogging resources. this current jb beta is pretty good but still get some lagging at random.
if that were the case I would love to try and find out what it is.
it seems to me that a minority of users report lags in rom threads and are dismissed without ever really getting to the root of the problem.
I would really like to try and get to the bottom of it. I am going to move to ext4 but if there are other troubleshooting steps to take I am all ears.
Ext4 alone will make a huge difference, and most of the rest of the slow downs will be do to apps/running services which can be seen with a logcat what is continually trying to use cpu resources
If only a minority report slowdowns then either that minority has a different idea of how the phone should run/ they use the phone in a completley different way/ or have different settings and apps then most have.

I know that's maybe a noob question but my phone had never been so slow and i don't know why is doing this..
I'm having some serious problem with my phone on every ROM that i try with Jelly Bean. I've tried stock, Linaro, Paranoid Android, Minco...but every rom behave the same. My phone it's really slow, can't load anything without lagging. I've also tried different kernel, obviously. I've made a video to explain this behaviour.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48V93aSq9Z0
I don't know if it's just an old phone that needs to be replaced by the new nexus but..i remember that i was doing great with Jelly Bean; about that time i remember that i was surprised for performance improvements after ICS. I've tried to cut of all the sync applications (Currents first of all..) and tried to reduce apps to a minimum but i still got this lag. It's very annoying cause it happens every 5 mintues and i can barely use my phone.
You probably have a ****load of services running.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Actually for some reason I have been experiencing the same thing the past couple days and I watch my running services and apps like a hawk.
Nothing unusual, installed an app or two in that time frame and uninstalled again - nothing changed.
Looked at BBS logs and also nothing out of the ordinary. Something funky is going on for sure.
I am still convinced there is a memory leak in the UI somewhere since my "free memory" after a few days dwindles down to sometimes even under 100MB which I feel uncomfortable with.
After a fresh restart it sits over 300MB free and before this lag became more apparent it would always tune in around 200MB after a few days.
Now I restart every day, sometimes more than once a day just keep performance somewhat decent.
There's a memory leak in 4.2.x. Unless you restart your phone daily you'll get it. Try a 4.1.2 rom, it's Jellybean, but quick again.
no leaks here 4.2.2 axiom and rootbox

Rebooting the phone twice in a day fixed this issue for me , Also an Startup manager app to unload all **** apps that eats the ram
yep, i think that everyone is experiencing lag on 4.2.x roms... JB had never been so fast like 4.1...
There are plenty of thread with people complaining about this

Try greenify. Greenify some apps that are taking a lot of ram. If you have Facebook make sure you greenify that. It takes a hell lotta memory

Hi, I'm still fairly new to flashing, but I have Jedi Mind Trick V8 and been running it for a little while now. I am having trouble with freezing, slowness and some lock ups. Also, in playing some games, they tend to skip and jump a lot, as if a hard dive were being thrashed on a PC. I don't have enough posts to ask in the Jedi Mind Trick forums, but I'm getting really frustrated. Is this an app thing possibly? Or is it just an android thing? Is another ROM better, like CM10 maybe?
Am I expecting to much to expect screens to just snap? I know these phones don't have a lot of memory so maybe that's it? Any help or direction would be much appreciated.
what are your kernel settings ? also have you installed any other mods with V8(xposed) Great program/app but can cause your system to lag a slight bit if you set it at performance it will help just not take it away ... or did you just flash the ROM and restore your apps ?

Greetings,
I've been around for some time, lurking mostly. And installing a ROM with ICS or JB on my Galaxy W was a wonderful way to innovate. It feels like I'm using a brand new phone, which is awesome.
I have tried Cyanogen mod and Paranoid Android and even the PAC roms. But the issue I run while using them is that my ram seems to be full most of the time, and it's filled with system apps more than my own apps. Which limits the phone seriously. I am almost unable to use Swiftkey for typing online or even messages, since it lags too much the phone.
I plan on keeping a couple of apps like a battery saver, Aviate launcher and occasionally a traffic monitor app like 3g Watchdog.I've been thinking about going back to Gingerbread versions, although new ones seem more enticing with features/apps like Google now.
I'm breaking my question in two parts:
1 - Can a more advanced android version like JB (or maybe KK) help make the system faster and the ram management more efficient? Or should I stick with a rom similar to stock?
2 - What roms do you recommend? Which Kernel? Or should I just face the fact my phone won't be able to comply with my current needs and I should ask Santa for an iPhone?
thanks
