Remember how I complained about the HTC over-branding their weather app? So I had to remove each logo from every weather symbol inside the HTC hub to make it look neat, but things got blurry and suddenly looked old. And it looked like this:

I've edited the PNG's in the tokens folder, as pointing to this single post from another thread gave me the urge to clean up the so-branded HTC Hub live tile. The images are not high-def for 7.8 large tiles. I've tried expanding the canvas size to fit with the 7.8's large tile, but it made the tile look somewhat spacious. But at the same time, leaving the images to their original sizes just makes the tile look a bit blurry.
You may notice some amateur photoshopping, especially the ones with lightning on them, but they're not that obvious.
Attached is the tokens folder. Altered images from PNG's 01-44, the rest are untouched.
You will need to replace the files using a file manager operated from PC. I used WPDM wirelessly to replace the files on my Titan.
Unpin tile and navigate to
HTML:
\Applications\Install\1A0EE8C2-48B1-DF11-8A2F-00237DE2DB9\Install\Res\Generic\images\token\
to replace the files. Pin app again, set it to large size and run app to refresh. If it doesn't refresh, wait around for 30 minutes and open app again.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Now, I've re-designed the weather images and made the huge-as tile 7.8 compatible, although I do not know if it is possible to resize it to a medium or small tile (probably not since the HTC Hub was already large in the first place!). So to suite my taste, I've made my own, and it now looks like this:
\
The text is much clearer, but it bugs me how the temp is indented slightly to the left. Of course it's showing night time, but I've rendered the daytime image and it would look something like this:
\
Attached files are updated. The NEW token folders are the ones that I made, the VANILLA token corresponds to the stock HTC weather symbols. If you have any requests or feedback, please let me know.
After download, rename the extracted folder to just "token".
Id love to see some fully moded with hq quality and added transperency to blend well with the used curent selected system accsent color.
now that would be a huge inprovment
i have alot of experiance with photoshop but unfortunatly to buzy cooking a rom and other projects
but if anyone needs help in photoshop drop me a line!
cool mod bro!

I love the HTC Hub's live tile images and fancy animations with weather. Although basic, very useful as it updates the tile according to your location. Other apps may do the same but their tiles are just not up to that certain level.
Anyway, on to the point. If you're using HTC Hub on another device, or just want to get rid of that f'ing HTC logo on the top left, then you may want to look at this.

On the OS 7.8 - 8858 build, the tile resizing feature is fixed. You change both the music hub and game hub to large/full sized tiles now and use medium for the clock tile.
Post updated.

Hey guys,
Here are some screenshots of the latest theme I have been working on. Feedback and suggestions/ideas are greatly appreciated.
***UPDATE 4/9/09***
Made a lot of fixes based on feedback received. Clock now matches the other icons/notifications, I personally like it a lot better! Application tray handle is now a thumbtack rather than the stapler in jello (stapler in jello is now delete handle). Added matching notification icons for most common stock apps (gmail, im, messaging, market, music, etc.) Cleaned up a weird looking button. Download link below!
***UPDATE 3/27/09***
Icon pack is available below. Included are all the application icons I made, as well as a blank icon background that you can paste your own icons into so they all match. Here is my process for doing that, though I'm not in any was saying that this is the only, or even the best, way to do it:
-Open both the icon you want and the "empty_sketchy" from the icon pack below in your favorite image editing program, GIMP or Photoshop, or whatever.
-You may need to resize the empty sketchy image, it works best if it is about twice as big as your icon you want to paste into it. There are two different sizes available in the zip file below, or it is a simple process to resize it to whatever size you need.
-Select and copy the icon you are working with, and then paste it into the empty_sketchy image. Center it, do any editing you need to do, etc. Then resize the entire thing to 48x48 and save it as a new file.
I'm still making a few changes and updates to the theme, and should release another update sometime this weekend.
***UPDATE 3/25/09***
Beta version now available, see link below. I still haven't quite finished everything I want to do with this theme, but I welcome ideas/suggestions/comments from anyone who wants to test it.
This theme is based on the US version of the TV show "The Office". It utilizes both things from the show, and typical office supplies.
Done:
custom boot screen
some notification icons
unlock screen
button backgrounds
clock
data network icons
phone signal, wifi, and battery icons
notification tray
all custom wallpapers
custom emoticons (from punkymoods.com)

I like the theme for the most part, I dont know what else you would put there but i dont really like the stapler in the jello as the apps tab thing. I really love the icons, can you post those for us to download to use with other themes as well?

wow that would be awesome, i downloaded this wallpaper and resized it for the G1 and your icon set will look awesome on it
not sure about a new app tab I will be thinking about it and let you know if i think of something
I love it i am downloading now the only thing i would change just from looking at the screens would be the clock i just doesnt seem to fit in
See the first post for a link to a zip file with all the icons from this theme and instructions on how to make matching icons for other applications.
@JediMasterASD: That corkboard wallpaper is awesome. Maybe I should include that as one of the wallpaper gallery choices in the theme.

I don't think I love the clock either. I'm thinking maybe just a square clock like the kind in every office and schoolroom in the world would be better...what do you think?
Thanks again for the icons, i have already made a few more and am loving it! this is my current homescreen
I would actually like to get a copy of your theme without a graphic at all for the apps tab if possible, obviously you dont have to go changing it just for me though but my homescreen would be perfect then. Also a clock that more resembled something you would see in an office would be good too.
also something you could do is for the app tab and the notification is use weapons, becuase we all know how much dwight loves to hide weapons around the office!!!
bump for the update - see first post for changes and for new download link!!!
I cooked up some wallpapers for WP7 and WP8+ lock screen and wanted to share them.
There are two sections now to choose from. Regular and Transparent. Each have their own instructions so I have included it all.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Regular Wallpapers: http://www.animevortex.net/blog/thesaint/windows-phone-7-wallpaper-gallery
Instructions: Simply save them to your phone by viewing the page from your phone or from your PC using zune sync or email, as you would do any other normal wallpapers.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Transparent Wallpapers: http://www.animevortex.net/blog/thesaint/general/free-transparent-wallpapers-for-windows-phone-7-wp7 (WP7 only!)
Instructions: To set one as your wallpaper you must save the image to your PC. Send your an email from your PC to your cellphone with the image attached. Once the email/attachment has been loaded, click to open the attachment. Touch and hold the screen until the menu pops up. Set as your wallpaper and your ready to go!
Note: Mango update and newer (including WP8+) do(es) not support transparent wallpapers.
--------------------------------------------------------------
I can't always guarantee that I can come through with every request but I will try when I can Most of the wallpapers were actually sponsored by donations so it helped. The rest I have to dabble with on my free time.
Update 04/22/2011 - Ok guys, biggest update yet! Collection had more than doubled with the additional of about 32 new anime-based wallpapers as well as more video game related.
Update 04/27/2011 - Thanks to the feature suggestion made by Big D5 (wpcentral), I have reworked it so that you can share straight to your phone from the gallery (once you click on an image and it pops up, you can press and hold the mid-section of the image and choose "share"). Now you view the gallery from your phone and even email to yourself as an attachment while your at it. Note: obviously you don't want to choose "save image" as doing this will convert it causing it to lose it's transparent properties.
Update 05/07/2011 - I added a regular gallery of non-transparent images, as well as added more images in both galleries.
Update 09/09/2011 - Added the new collection of Conan Wallpapers (non-trans), also available in their own gallery here with collection zip: Conan Wallpaper Collection for WP7
Waiting for them to send to my phone now! Will report back how they do!
-edit-
Interesting. I usually use a password lock, and with the password, the effect is all but lost.
However upon turning it off, it's there sure as day. Snakeeyes now guards my phone. Awesome stuff OP!!
I also updated the post as the special forces (Battlefield) wallpaper wasn't showing. It's there now. I'll try to add more in the future if work allows and will probably add it to this post.
These are amazing! thanks alot! Snake is definitely the best one so far, Flash is a close second, the Halo and Assassins Creed seem a little off...maybe just too big I don't know, thats just me being picky. But great job none the less keep it up
Thanks for the make.

Yes it only works when you start to move your finger on the slide because WP7 blacks out the home screen when the lock screen is fully dropped. The second you start to slide up or down the home screen should appear in the BG.

So, we all love our metro UI! Okay, few of us don't but many do. All those big live tiles, adding aesthetics to functionality. Maybe, after a few days, months or years for that matter, one might find it boring to have same tile-tile monochrome layout and a bunch of theme colors. While there is not much that can be done about it, here is a cool trick which adds some refreshment to the look of WP7 home screen! Now, let's admit it, we all have grown up with the concept of wallpapers. They're everywhere - on Windows PC, Mac, Linux, Android, even on iOS! (Though I wonder, how pleasing a wallpaper looks when icons are being filled up linearly, leaving less than 25% of the wallpaper visible and your app icon falls right on the eye of the cute face in the wallpaper!) For WP7 home screen - no wallpaper. This trick allows us to convert the tiles into pieces of wallpaper so that the screen looks like beautiful picture made by solving a kind of jigsaw puzzle.
By no means, I have used any of my creativity in this. I found this trick buried in a Japanese blog here. I thought it would be cool to share it! All credit goes to the author of the article.
The catch is to make image resembling an array of live tiles like this one:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And then use it as a webpage and pin the web link to start using IE.
Actual steps are like this:
1. Create (pick some wallpaper or crop your favorite one) an image with resolution of your screen, i.e., 358x728.
2. Then add black frame of thickness 12px as shown in the picture. Tiles are 173x173.
3. Upload this image to a web service which allows you to view image file as image right inside your browser. Dropbox public folder works fine.
4. Here comes the tricky part. Open up the image in IE on your WP7 device. IE will think of it as a webpage. Adjust the magnification and position of your webpage (Which is your picture) such that the first tile such that, it fills your screen edge to edge horizontally, and the top edge of the image is aligned to the address bar. So, now you have left edge of the tile aligned to left of screen, right to right and top to top. Ignore the bottom edge. Example:
5. Go to menu and select pin to start. Your tile will be pinned to start as a webpage shortcut live tile!
6. Repeat procedure for all the tiles.
7. Now, go to start rearrange the tiles so that overall appearance is of a complete picture.
So, that was easy, wasn't that? Just a bit tricky with alignment, right? I have a simpler solution! Why not create eight different images, one for each tile having resolution square pixels equal to the width of IE page? Just create a square image with width equal to that of IE and then zoom it to 100% by a simple double tap. This was image will be already aligned. Only catch is that the image will be scaled to fit into the tile, but the difference was not noticeable when I gave it a try.
Agreed to the fact that this thing would take up all the screen space reducing productivity of the live tiles, the trick is worth try. We can have the tiles below the wallpaper. It also acts as a little puzzle. Mix up the tiles and then rearrange them to complete the picture! Its worth a shot if you are already tired of old look and want to try something new. Share your wallpapers in the post.
P.S.: Don't forget to have a look at original post here. If you don't understand Japanese, Google translate is your friend. I don't understand it either!
this is cool. It's been around for a while though. You don't have to create and post an image to make it work. With some finesse and care, you can just zoom it just right, pin it, slide over, pin it, etc... This is a homescreen thing I did back in April.
Wow, very nice idea Thanks for the tip There's also stuff like live tile generators or creators.. but this method is much easier

So I was thinking the other day that there is no reason why some tiles couldn't be smaller. It would be cool if you could long hold a tile and have an option com up to split it into a half tile. Other hub like tiles could be further subdivided. I use IE to demonstrate this, but the music up could allow you to pin a favorite artist or two to it. Or the game hub could likewise use 1/2 tile to display game invites, and then two 1/4 tiles to link directly to your two favorite games. What are your thoughts?

I realy like it too. Eather I don't understand why there is no option to make smaller icons at the beginig of WP7.
There should be an option when pinning to the home screen which size you want. It would call for more work on the dev's part to add all of the extra icons in their apps that encompass all of the sizes, but WP7 is already easy to work with.
this will be great..... i hope MS will look at this and add this to the mango update...
hmmm, honestly dont really like the split tiles. Just doesnt look as clean and simplistic as the original. I like the interface as it is now, however adding more options or subdivisons(and not separate tiles) within a single tile would be welcome.
hey, they're almost icons, keep going!

You are probably one of 1000 who don't like this opinion. So if you don't like, just use biger icons. Us who like smaller, than could use smaller.
I really like this layout. It adds diversity to the screen and also allows you to see more at the first glimpse. I would really welcome this, but I am pretty confident we'll never see this
I would love this layout as an option! Make it so that to add it you would need to go into the app settings, then people wouldnt complain about it being mandatory.
Edit- Imagine this concept with a facebook app, you could have different parts of the tile split into different functions, like one could be facebook chat with notifications, just a straight notifications one and then another with new messages. So, each would have seperate notifications and tapping it would take you directly to it.
brilliant!
The concept is nice, but I like the original tiles any smaller and it will look like icons
I would bet the OP used to have a HD2 because this reminds me of a great mod everyone was using to be able to accomodate more icons to the homescreen. While it was awesome for Winmo 6.5 I don't really like it for WP7 because the tiles are not just icons, they're supposed to display information.
I've just read the comments over this concept at WPCentral and this is what I had to say...
I think the people who see an issue with the tiles don't actually see where the real issue is. The real issue is some(most) tiles only act as counters and are the ones wasting space. However we have to keep them on the start screen because there isn't a notification center.
I said that before, Windows Phone needs to go the Meego route and have a 3rd page that's just for notifications (and maybe one more useful feature like data/wifi toggles as someone suggested).
Example: I currently have Accuweather and AlphaJax pinned to my start screen. Accuweather is an informative tile that shows useful information at a glance. AlphaJax doesn't do anything. It just shows a number that tells me it's my turn to play, it's just a counter. AlphaJax could be on my notification page and moved away from my start screen in favour of a more informative app like prime tv.
Think about it, how many of your "live" tiles are just counters?
Also I'm not too keen on the "they could still make it and make it optional". It's not like it would require a snap of the fingers, there's still lots of work to be done (including changes to the core UI) for something people might use. All these resources would be better used in creating something like a notification page.
Looks too cluttered, smaller icons will be harder to hit on smaller screens, more frustration which will be blamed on "Windows Mobile".
I definitely like this idea of adjusting the live tile size, more options and choice is always good. That coupled with adding extra pages to help categorize your apps would make the UI that much better for notifications and wifi/bt/etc toggles or even just a page with live tiles dedicated to news or games or whatever. I would have thought that MS who prioritize efficiency would give us the option of additional pages so we don't have to endlessly and skillfully scroll down our home screen to find what we want 'quickly'
Love it. Ability to fit a few more things on the home screen without scrolling would be awesome.

Build.prop my friend
Hi!
So glad my first post will actually be a helpful one but I've looked into this also - Thanks so much for the confirmation that photoshop is working on HOX! that's awesome!
The play store will apparently (I may only be 95% correct here) check your /system/build.prop file for things such as build, OS version, LCD Density etc. Google insist that this is "So that developers can make apps more suited to our devices" but more often, it STOPS you from downloading an app which will work fine on your device! (eg. photoshop on the HOX!)
So the key is, you need to edit /system/build.prop - there's NO one-click-build.prop which will allow every app to work, it's just not possible, so what i tend to do is find out what the app requires if I can, and then change my build.prop to suit JUST THAT APP that i'm trying to get at the time...
I'm thinking we need to change it to be similar to a transformer tab in order to work in this case...
BE WARNED THOUGH - BUILD.PROP IS A SYSTEM FILE AND IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND IT OR HAVE IT 100% CORRECT YOU MAY DAMAGE OR BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
So - don't just BLINDLY follow my pointers here, they're just pointers to help you find the right direction
