1. The Processing power is very good (4x1.6 GhZ), but it's not good enough for 4K. Actually, [email protected] would be possible.
2. The Camera's Resolution is OK, and the sensor height (2448 Pixels) is enough for 4K, because 4K's Height (Y-Axis) is only 2160, so it's called 2160p.
> But the Width (X-Axis) of 3264 Pixels is not enough, because 4K's Width is 3840 (DCi-Cine4k is 4096) Pixels.
So 4K-Recording with the Note 2 isn't really possible.
But:
FullHD isn't old. It's still very Useable and costs less space (17 MBit/s). Even HD is not so bad(12 MBit/sek.).
The Note 2 is still a very good phone, because no phone gets worse, if a new one comes out. Enjoy your Note 2 with the Wonderful User Interface
Look at Android 5.0's Ugly User Interface. Be happy, not to have it.
Go Note 3
4K Playback
The S4 has got 4x1.9 GHz, but it also lacks with playing [email protected], which only needs half the processing power of [email protected]
Actually, VLC's Android Player lets the S4 to play [email protected] smoothly, so try VLC.

Hi,
I am trying to watch an 720p mkv video over MHL but the subtitles are not showing on my TV. I know that there is a general issue with that but do you know any custom ROM or any fix that can solve that problem? Thanks!
Have you tried using BSPlayer Free from the Play Store? I don't have a TV on hand to test it out, but as far as I remember, it works with subtitles over MHL. It's a really good app.
Yes I have tried it. It works only with SW decoder but it is pointless to watch an 720p movie in SW mode. I am asking about hw acceleration
Are you sure we're talking about the same app here? BSPlayer works in HW accelerated mode for 720p (and 1080p) MKVs for me.

It has been so since S2 gingerbread. If HW acceleration is used, it would only transfer the HW layer to the HDMI. In SW mode, the SW layer would be transfered. It doesn't seem to be able to transfer both.
Please note that the subtitle is always rendered in the SW layer so when HW is used, players would render the subtitle in SW layer on top of the HW layer.
I wonder if the same thing is true if Allshare Cast is used.

Hmm in my old optimus 2x I had not this problem. Ofcourse optimus 2x had a mini hdmi port and I was using an hdmi cable and not mhl... I hope they will fix it soon because this function is prety much useless for people speaking other language than English. Do you know if the problem persists also in jb 4.2?

I've used dice player recently and in settings it claims to have a mode that works with Samsung phones and hdmi. I don't have a hdmi out for my note ii yet. Can someone give dice player a go and let me know?

I tried it but for a strange reason it cannot play the 720p video on my phone. It says that " This video cannot be played" . Have you tried to play mkv video?

No. Its not even a 720p screen and doesn't have 1080p decoding. Cmiiw though... Though you can try enabling the 1080p video option and try watching 1080 HD videos on YouTube using the app by theos0s or something like that. Not sure what would happen though...

I know about the hacked apk for Netflix that was released a while back but it either does or doesn't. Is there a way to tell if something is playing at 720 or 1080.. Been trying to hack YouTube to 1080 but seems the developers for both are missing in action as the apks are months out dated.. Wanna use the screen for its full 1080p potential

i dont know if you see the difference, but for sure when you hit the airplay on chromecast they will play 1080p is the movie is available on HD.
also, make sure you have the highest setting on your netflix account
I mean it's clear and good looking but I'm looking hard at it and it's not crispy like the tv.. And yes the shows I'm looking at I know for sure are super hd aka 1080 format, signal isn't a issue as I'm pulling 30mbit down on the phone, just wondered if it's 720 or actually 1080

OK no matter how I go to watch a 2 or 4k video trailer it lags very bad. I am on charters 60mbs service. Getting 59.9mbs with a speed test on my tablet. I tried loading it through my player, the stock video player, chrome, and the stock browser. It all lags and shutters badly making it impossible to watch.
Why would this play? YouTube app will not play higher than 720 and if I load it in the browser it also won't give me the option to watch it in full hd or higher

First of all, the Tab Pro/S screens aren't even 4k resolution so you wouldn't gain anything from watching it at that high of a resolution. Secondly, I'll leave it to the next person!
I know that this is only a 2k screen but it should be able to play a 2k or a 4k video right? 1080 plays fine with no lag or anything.

only the 4k video lagged for me. The 1080p ones played fine. Must be the exynos chip in your 325
Mine has the snapdragon 800. The 1080s play fine but the 4ks don't. There are some 2k videos on that site and they lag too.

Wanted to chime in here... I have the U.S. Galaxy tab pro 8.4, I did not update to the newest version of software it keeps telling me that is ready to install. Its the black model...
I have on my networked server the timescapes 4k 2560p video clip. I copied it over to the 16gb built in sdcard storage on the tab and played the file using the stock video player.
It plays fine and is 99% smooth, here and there it may hitch once or twice. What I did notice is there may be a ghosting problem on this tab because the stars from the video clip smear when they move and are sharp when they don't in the background.
So 4k videos do play smooth its just there is ghosting.. This file was a .mp4
Maybe streaming them is the problem compared to playing them from storage with the video player built in

1440p and above lag for me using the chrome browser on YouTube (desktop version). Will try a downloaded clip to see if I get the same results.

Download YouTube Downloader from XDA then you can download 2k videos straight to your phone from YouTube! That's what I do and it looks fantastic.
