Boot loop - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys my buddies Aokp milestone 1 phone has been running good for over 2 weeks and now, randomly, it has gone into a boot loop. Anyone know why this could be, and if it could be something with the flash counter? Thanks

And it won't go into recovery. I don't know much about the s3 since I am a gnex user
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Well that's pretty vague info but I would Just start over, flash back to stock with odin, install recovery, then flash the milestone rom over again.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium

After flash to stock, do a factory reset from recovery when you start looping

Thanks for the help guys. Got it up and running again, he isn't too happy about losing everything though haha. Anyone know why it would do this? I have been flashing on HTC phones and my nexus for a couple of years and I have never had that happen.
Thanks again for your help though.

Redownload the rom? Sounds like a bad download.

I tried 2 different rooms already...
Tomorrow I can try to download on my PC since tonight I did using my phone but I really don't think that's the issue.

If that doesn't work.. I would suggest you Odin back to stock and repartition. Reroot and try and flash it with a fresh download. This may solve your issue.

I got stuck in a boot loop as well coming from beta 2 to 3... the CM9 boot screen would just keeping running and the phone would vibrate every minute or so.
I believe it was because I didn't uninstall cpu voltage before I flashed.
Wiping data and then installing beta 3 on a fresh slate worked fine for me... Didnt have to odin.

(Q) error when flashing rom =(

hi there
rooted my Maguro Yakjuux nexus the other day but cant get any custom roms to load!
i enter recovery mode and "install from zip" any custom rom ive downloaded thru rom manager pro, and it says theres an error and that only the developer can boot CM roms? or something like that =(
any tips suggestions?
btw dont use a pc...i use a mac
thanks in advance!
Have you unlocked the bootloader, and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery (or TWRP)?
If so, download the rom from here on XDA instead of through ROM Manager.
Also, what specifically does the error say?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Ya I did unlock the bootloader. I actually did transfer and try files downloaded from the Site to my phone and tried it that way as well but to no avail. =(
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Is there anyway to double check that my phones bootloader has been unlocked?

When you start the phone, at the "Google" splash screen, there will be a picture of an open lock at the bottom of the screen.
Oh ya mine has that...!

What recovery are you using?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I've tried both the manual with the side volume buttons as well as using rom manager

Samsung All share cast dongle not working after JB update

I have not tried to use it on an not rooted version of JB. Just wondering if anyone can chime in and share their experience. I know that since the update the flash counter will go up to 1 everytime you reboot your phone, triangle away says it reset the flash counter but next boot it is increased again. Would that be the reason I cannot use the All share cat dongle? It worked fine on ICS rooted but not on JB. EDIT:
The is a thread in general about three flash counter with Doc Holiday and chainfire trying to figure this out. I think it's best if we post there.

Anybody?

Had to reset the dongle after updating to JB(stock root) then all worked fine. Before resetting, TV hung at connecting screen even tho phone said connected.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I tried resetting it several times but it still doesn't connect. I tried to but then says all share cast is closing to connection... I tried with stock recovery because I thought that maybe because the flash counter keeps resetting itself, thought CWM was resetting the counter but even with the stock recovery it doesn't work. Samsung really sucks with what they did with this update... there is no way to keep the flash counter at zero....

I updated with wildchild's Odin firmware then flashed his stock de-odexed rom with twrp. Used triangle away one time and reset the dongle and everthing is working as it should.

Not working for me. What ROM are you on? Custom recovery or stock? Stock kernel or custom?
In the general forum is a thread about the flash counter and doc holiday and chain fire are trying to figure out what the cause is.
Here is the link.. Probably better if this gets discussed in in one central thread...

[Q] TWRP not really flashing ROMs. Help!

Hey all, I am new here and have been flashing ROMs and rooting phones and etc. for 3 or so years. Recently i bought an AT&T Galaxy S 3 from someone. He rooted it and loaded the AOKP milestone 4.2.2 ROM on it. It came with TWRP 2.6 for the recovery. Now, I want to try different ROMs but I am unable to. What I mean is that I can download ROMs and flash them along with the Gapps, and it takes its time doing it and flashing it. After flashing it, it never says successful or failed. So I go to reboot the system and for some reason it is STILL the AOKP ROM I originally had on there. I have tried at least 12 different ROMs and it does the same thing every single time. It is just the AOKP ROM but completely clean like I just started using it. So, can anyone help me out? I am totally stuck. And I have tried using CWM to no avail. Please help! Thanks guys.
Flash back to current stock with Odin, then start over.

Is there any other way besides doing that? Or is that the only way to fix it?

What's the correct method to flash another Rom?

I'm on ICS 4.0.4 just Rooted last night with custom recovery. So I just dl what JB Rom I want and flash in recovery like my HTC Evo Lte?
All this reading has got me confused as to what to do. Plus this being my first Samsung device doesn't help any.
Thanks for the help
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Just follow the instructions for the specific Rom you want. All roms have their flashing instructions And the jb ones are more specific too. Those are listen in the thread for that Rom as well.
Sent from Tapatalk on my S2.
You need to do a full restore one click to GB27 full root restore which is jelly bean. Something in the system has to be formatted before you flash a custom jelly bean ROM.
RWilco has all the stuff you should need
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31961585
OK I'm on FL24 but I need to run GB27 next?
If so then it's OK to use the GB27 (rooted) (preserve user data) option?
Thanks
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
EDIT: ok i ran the GB27 so at this point i can download a JB rom and flash in recovery ?

You need to do the one that wipes data since you're going from ics to jb. It's going to delete whatever you have on the internal sd so back up the files. After you do that then you can flash a jb Rom on it. I'm on my phone right now so I can't really link you to the thread easily. Look for the jb roms they should have links to all you need to set up a jb Rom.

I've been reading a lot and it's my understanding that every time I flash a Rom I have to flash the kernel separate?
And all I read is CWM Recovery, is there not a TWRP Recovery for this device ?
And (Modems) this is included in all TW Roms. But if I flash cm or aokp Roms I have to flash this separate and use ICS modem?
Thanks

All correct.

It is hard to fully brick, but it can happen. Take your time and read as much as possible.. When I got my first Android device, Samsung Captivate, I spent the better part of 3 weeks reading before I even attempted root and another full day of reading for installation of a custom ROM. You always have to be prepared to have a paper weight on your hands. You can't panic if you get stuck in a bootloop. Rule of thumb, 95% of the time if it still turns on, it can be fixed. What I do now is read as much as possible before I even get the device. I was reading and researching for 4 days before I got my S4 had it rooted and ROMd in an hour after I got it.

Yea this phone is so complicated to flash roms and other things. And I thought My HTC one and HTC evo lte was hard. But I love trying out new phones so it keeps me from getting bored.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
The E4GT is easy. Try figuring out the S4. That's what I am on now. There are so many different things to worry about.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using xda premium
One of the main reasons why I like HTC devices because when you flash the ROM the kernel is flashed at the same time if yr S-Off were this phone you have to flash the kernel separate from the rom and then you have to use ClockworkMod recovery which I don't care for. I prefer TeamWin recovery. But my wife's GS3 is similar to htc devices download the Rom and flash and it has TeamWin recovery. But I got this phone to flip so I'm not going to keep it but who knows.
