[Q] TWRP not really flashing ROMs. Help! - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey all, I am new here and have been flashing ROMs and rooting phones and etc. for 3 or so years. Recently i bought an AT&T Galaxy S 3 from someone. He rooted it and loaded the AOKP milestone 4.2.2 ROM on it. It came with TWRP 2.6 for the recovery. Now, I want to try different ROMs but I am unable to. What I mean is that I can download ROMs and flash them along with the Gapps, and it takes its time doing it and flashing it. After flashing it, it never says successful or failed. So I go to reboot the system and for some reason it is STILL the AOKP ROM I originally had on there. I have tried at least 12 different ROMs and it does the same thing every single time. It is just the AOKP ROM but completely clean like I just started using it. So, can anyone help me out? I am totally stuck. And I have tried using CWM to no avail. Please help! Thanks guys.

Flash back to current stock with Odin, then start over.

Is there any other way besides doing that? Or is that the only way to fix it?

Update your bootloader. There are some threads about how to do it.

I'm trying to flash it through odin, Im using windows 7. Is there any other way I can get back to stock?
is that an at&& or Canadian s3?
Make sure it's the right file. If you read through that thread you'd see that users are being directed to the i9300 stock file...not At&ts.

Boot loop

Hey guys my buddies Aokp milestone 1 phone has been running good for over 2 weeks and now, randomly, it has gone into a boot loop. Anyone know why this could be, and if it could be something with the flash counter? Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
And it won't go into recovery. I don't know much about the s3 since I am a gnex user
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Well that's pretty vague info but I would Just start over, flash back to stock with odin, install recovery, then flash the milestone rom over again.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium
After flash to stock, do a factory reset from recovery when you start looping
Thanks for the help guys. Got it up and running again, he isn't too happy about losing everything though haha. Anyone know why it would do this? I have been flashing on HTC phones and my nexus for a couple of years and I have never had that happen.
Thanks again for your help though.

Help wrong modem

A friend of mine flashed the wrong modem on his phone and now can't get it to boot, it just boot loops, I tried putting the correct modem on it and same thing, I also tried flashing the zip file to return the phone completely back to stock and it still continues to do the same thing, can anyone help me out?
Not personally knowing if flashing the "wrong modem" can perma-brick Samsung stuff, I might recommend you try Odin'ing back to stock before giving up. (Sorry, can't link you, on my phone and watching a movie.) I'm sure one of our esteemed members will point you in the right direction to a "one click". Or tell you that you're cooked.

You arent cooked. You need to use a one click that will destroy data. You dont want the no data version.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
If i was you, i would try to flash this stock unroot and see what happens. If this doesnt work, id try odin back to stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...tock with auto flash count reset(MC2 FIXED!)

I already tried flashing the uproot back to stock with counter reset with no success just boot loops

And what Is this one click you speak of?

You're gonna have to Odin back to stock, then.

Dude, from the time of your OP, until now? You could have read every dev thread here, and figured this out.
Look for a thread by the user Garwynn, he has the stock "one clicks". Download it and run it with your phone plugged into a computer.
Read the instructions. Easy peasy, man.

I had to fix my friends phone for the same thing and I did was use Galaxy Note 2 toolbox.

Having trouble and need help.

So I am having trouble flashing a new ROM I have done it in the past and am used to doing it so I know what needs to be done. When I download a ROM I want to use I download it to my phone directly then I reboot into recovery I have the latest twrp version and I wipe everything then I go to install the ROM and after about 2 seconds it says failed. No matter what ROM I try it does this and I've tried downloading them several times thinking it was a bad download. I was able to install a stock one but I don't like stock and none of the others are working I don't known if I'm doing something wrong or if its my phone but help me please. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you downloaded the correct TWRP Recovery for your phone?
Yes I am. It was doing it on an older version I had so I thought it was cause I hadn't updated in a while and it still kept doing it after I updated.

Hi there
1) Are you from Canada and using a Canadian Recovery for d2can? if so this could be a problem since many updater-scripts see this a fail since they are looking for d2att
2) What ROM's are you trying to flash? AOSP or Stock based touchwiz rom's?
also I would like to direct you to the Q&A, Help and troubleshooting forum, in the event that this post get's moved, you will find it there. They are busy people, but now you know no hard feeling man, just trying to make their job's easier!
cheers
Thanks a lot! And no I'm in the usa and aosp ROMs are what I'm trying to install the stock touchwiz ones worked.

at first i tried flashing this oneI747UCDLK3 then i went through the process and it said i had the wrong one so i flashed this one I747MVLDLK4 cause it was the version that it said i had under recovery so then i flashed my new rom and it said succesful and everything looked like it worked then when i went to reboot my phone it never came back on. like its just dead the light doesnt even come on when i have it plugged into the charger took it to att store today and he tried a new battery and that was all and said i needed to make an insurance claim but thats besides the point. im stuck now at just trying to get the phone to turn on cause i can restore it once i do but now im at a loss on how to get it on,

What's the correct method to flash another Rom?

I'm on ICS 4.0.4 just Rooted last night with custom recovery. So I just dl what JB Rom I want and flash in recovery like my HTC Evo Lte?
All this reading has got me confused as to what to do. Plus this being my first Samsung device doesn't help any.
Thanks for the help
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Just follow the instructions for the specific Rom you want. All roms have their flashing instructions And the jb ones are more specific too. Those are listen in the thread for that Rom as well.

You need to do a full restore one click to GB27 full root restore which is jelly bean. Something in the system has to be formatted before you flash a custom jelly bean ROM.
RWilco has all the stuff you should need
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31961585
OK I'm on FL24 but I need to run GB27 next?
If so then it's OK to use the GB27 (rooted) (preserve user data) option?
Thanks

EDIT: ok i ran the GB27 so at this point i can download a JB rom and flash in recovery ?

You need to do the one that wipes data since you're going from ics to jb. It's going to delete whatever you have on the internal sd so back up the files. After you do that then you can flash a jb Rom on it. I'm on my phone right now so I can't really link you to the thread easily. Look for the jb roms they should have links to all you need to set up a jb Rom.

I've been reading a lot and it's my understanding that every time I flash a Rom I have to flash the kernel separate?
And all I read is CWM Recovery, is there not a TWRP Recovery for this device ?
And (Modems) this is included in all TW Roms. But if I flash cm or aokp Roms I have to flash this separate and use ICS modem?
Thanks

All correct.

Very possible. Never unplug until the process is complete.

It is hard to fully brick, but it can happen. Take your time and read as much as possible.. When I got my first Android device, Samsung Captivate, I spent the better part of 3 weeks reading before I even attempted root and another full day of reading for installation of a custom ROM. You always have to be prepared to have a paper weight on your hands. You can't panic if you get stuck in a bootloop. Rule of thumb, 95% of the time if it still turns on, it can be fixed. What I do now is read as much as possible before I even get the device. I was reading and researching for 4 days before I got my S4 had it rooted and ROMd in an hour after I got it.

Yea this phone is so complicated to flash roms and other things. And I thought My HTC one and HTC evo lte was hard. But I love trying out new phones so it keeps me from getting bored.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
The E4GT is easy. Try figuring out the S4. That's what I am on now. There are so many different things to worry about.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using xda premium
One of the main reasons why I like HTC devices because when you flash the ROM the kernel is flashed at the same time if yr S-Off were this phone you have to flash the kernel separate from the rom and then you have to use ClockworkMod recovery which I don't care for. I prefer TeamWin recovery. But my wife's GS3 is similar to htc devices download the Rom and flash and it has TeamWin recovery. But I got this phone to flip so I'm not going to keep it but who knows.
