New to CDMA - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi, I've been a 10 year TMobile user. I just switched to sprint this week. I'm not a newbie when it comes to flashing roms, but I'm wondering what differences I need to anticipate by using a CDMA phone over a GSM before I start flashing something and brick my phone. Any input would be appreciated.

well Sprint doesn't have gsm, they have cdma... so it shouldn't be a problem

*facepalm* Seriously people read before you dole out your half witted 2cents
All of my experience is flashing on CDMA, but to my understanding flashing a GN2 on CDMA is exactly the same as GSM. Make sure you only flash the sprint variant ROMS, but other than that you don't have to take any precautions.
BUT you dont get to have data while talking on the phone anymore. Unless there is that sweet workaround with LTE. I'm in a 4g free zone so can't confirm or deny this.

Do I need to reactivate my phone after each flash or is it similar to with a sim card and just flash and go?

I think he worded it correctly. He was coming from a GSM and knew Sprint is CDMA and wanted to know if there was any difference between the two as far as ROMs go.

You would use activation like changing a sim card - triggers the phone to go out and grab its new phone number, GPRS logins, etc.
"Update profile and PRL" are what you should be doing on flashes, expecially if you flash a new modem.

I flashed a new modem last night, didn't update profile or PRL. Works fine.
Changing ROMs is as simple as changing sim cards. If your phone was activated before, a new ROM isn't going to change that. This includes AOSP ROMs, when they arrive.

Thanks for the replies. Now I just have to get over the differences of HTC and Samsung. Didn't have anything like Odin or whatnot for HTC, but did have weird bootloader issues. Thanks again.

Yeah, it will work fine. Modem rom contains the PRL, or at least it did on the e4gt. Flashing a new modem may leave you with an older PRL.

Ok. Maybe I didn't make my point clearly. I was talking about best practices over time.
For example, the modern you flashed has PRL56009 which is the newest ATM. Great.
In a year, if you flash this modem again, you'll be back on 56009. Even if the new PRL is 56123.
Make sense?

My general rules:
When flashing roms, only update prl and profile if you notice a loss of data speed or connectivity issues.
When flashing modems, update the prl and profile.
Samsung modems were new to me when transitioning from HTC. Common thought is the performance of different modem versions is dependent on location and/or individual phones. You will flash roms and modems independently.

My point was I had manually flashed the corporate prl previously, which I don't think was included in the modem. 55009 is the current standard prl.
I'm not trying to argue with you. I don't claim to understand how modems and prls work. Just sharing my experience.

AT&T ROM on Tmobile phone.

I was wondering if we could flash an AT&T ROM on our Tmobile phones and would it have any drawbacks? Can I still get full 4G? I don't care about WiFi calling.

hehe my thoughts exactly. These att roms will work on tmo. Anyone tried Sprint roms yet?
I've got the other case -- an unlocked AT&T GSIII and I'm on T-Mobile. Any problems loading up my AT&T phone with a T-Mobile ROM? How about a T-Mobile radio? Never mind, started my own thread, no need to derail this one...

Yep Sprint roms work the same, Verizon don't work yet because they have a sim verifier I haven't located yet. Forgot to mention, some AT&T and sprint roms do have carrier specific apns-conf.xml's but can be replaced with one from ours with ES file explorer. So that means no data, but most work out of the box. Be careful.

No to the radio question, you use the one you have installed. Factory reset, then wipe cache partition, then in advanced, wipe davlik cache. That's it, next flash rom.
As for a list,
I love Aristodemos, using a modified version daily.
Kyan rom is nice.
Ariel,
Triune,
blazer,
and Miui all work well from AT&T.

port sprint jellybean offical update ?

tmobile offical update for jellybean wont be until the end of 2012, so cant we just port the official jelly bean update from sprint? cause basically the sprint gs3 and all other carriers are the same internally except for the radio. so as long as we just flash the rom without the radio, we should be good ? i have no idea. idk. just a thought
I'm sure someone will try it out soon, but I'm pretty sure you can flash Sprint and att roms no problem

I believe all the carriers have pretty much identical hw except the radios. They most likely have the same partition mapping and so its probably ok to flash anothers roms.
That said, I would NOT do this without solid confirmation. Its basically an educated guess on my part. (A day or two ago someone said they flashed a Verizon rom and it worked, but again, I wouldn't take my or their word for it alone)

Ktoonsez built his touchwiz kernel off the sprint jb source so I'm with doc on this. It's most likely safe. I'm hoping T-Mobile will release their source soon.

Someone in general clashed Sprint and Verizon ROMs just fine. The only issue was getting radios to communicate with the software. I believe they got everything working on the Sprint ROM but Verizon had extra authentication methods.

The OP could be telling the truth, but till a credible member verify this, I'll question the validity of his/her post. Still, even if it turns out to be true, It remains to be a question whether a sprint rom is flashable on ours or not.

You can flash a sprint rom just fine. will stuff not work without modification? yes, but you will not brick it.
Now, if you flash an international rom to a US variant you will brick because the partitions are different. But everything is the same on the US variants. You do have to change things in the build.prop and make other mods to make it work on GSM. The only thing bad would be if the sprint rom flashes a modem but that wouldn't even brick because you could just flash the correct modem
I also want to mention I released a straight stock port on the ATT forums. This release will work for tmo as well. You just have to change the build prob stuff to show it as a t999 instead of a i747
All the S3 from US carrier have the same hardware. It could be ported just that the radios will have to be changed. I wont doubt it if they do it :good:
OK guys no more talking, that's the official JB for the sprint version, ported for the T-Mobile
Check out. Working great on my phone.

If it works for you, then keep with it. You're free to try any modem, but you aren't bound by the ROM version.

If you're getting good signal/data speeds, stick with what you have. It really matters on your location. For me, FF18 is the best but for others, FF27, FH13, etc...

Modems are area/device dependent.
Meaning, what might work well for me, might not work well for you.
You can try any modem with any build. Try the latest and see if your speeds improve or not. Might find that what you have is the best for you, might not.
(some say to update profile/prl after each time you change, i for one, don't see improvement doing that, but try it)
: edit: From fi03 forward, 4g speeds increase due to changes of Wimax settings. So if 4g is a player for you, keep that in mind

[Q] Sprint rom on AT&T

Hello
I wonder if i can flash sprint rom on at&t note 2
Thanks for all the answer
only if you want to mess up your phone...
Yea be carefull flashing Roms thats is not for your device model. If I were to flash another Rom ft a different carrier I would stay with Tmobile, Att, and gt n7105. Alot of times modems aint included in the rom or you will have an option in Aroma to Retain Modem. Another thing is you might lose LTE flashing Sprint or Verizon Roms because there CDMA and yours is GSM. I would just stick to your own device forums. Or atleast stay on the GSM/LTE Side (7105-i317-t889)

You should definitely read post 1 and 2 carefully HERE. A lot of info to take in. I know from experience that you can only have 3g and MMS, or 4g and no MMS on AOSP roms. If you flash the 4g fix it breaks MMS.
