GooManager says there's a JandyCane update...but is there? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have jandycane_otter-v1.8.0_0xD34D.zip on my Fire, and today GooManager told me that there are updated versions of both jandycane (_otter-20121020.0xD34D) and gapps, but looking at the thread I got my version of jandycane from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766829) it's not showing an update. Who's right?

Got update too - different number though

Well GooManager on my KindleFire automatically downloaded (yesterday 28 Nov.) "gapps-jb-20121128-signed.zip" nothing else!
Haven't Flashed it yet though! I came back here first to refresh my mind about how to do it. Well I guess it is just the same as at the beginning = wipe Cache + Dalvik Cache and then just go ahead and Flash this new version?
Do know why you have a different number though - and I have only received this one packet!
Download took a while by me - so maybe your battery shouldn't be too low! And I am going to do a full recharge before I start with the Flash!

I'm Stuck!

Okay I am in the middle of Flashing the new update - but I am really uncertain about what I should do now! (first did a save to be certain then wiped Cache and Dalvik and then started update - gapps-jb-20121128-signed.zip )
after starting update got a Dalvik cache Directories wipe complete message (then)
Verifying Filesystem....
Verifying partition sizes...
Install ........ gapps-jb-20121128-signed.zip
Finding update package
installing
......
......
(and finally)
Installation Complete!
(then once again the texts)
Verifying Filesystem....
Verifying partition sizes...
But there it seems to have stopped (completed?)
And under in TWRP I have the options: Wipe Cache/Dalvik - Home - Reboot System
IS Reboot System the right choice nor (or?) (or was something else supposed to come now?
++++++++++++++++++++++++
I choose reboot
But something is not right at all !!!
I got a message "upgrading Android apps"
then it started in the normal "turning mirror bits" loading
then the password window
But the keyboard won't open !!! Can't get past the password window
also I notice that the WLAN is no longer on (it was on before during this process)
I have no idea what to do now ?????????????

OKAY luckily I did a Backup first - I have restored this Backup
I am going to start a new Thread about this Update I got yesterday and the problem I had with it - something is not right!

I always take the Goo.im update notifications with a grain of salt...just cause it says there is an "update" doesn't mean its for the rom you are currently using. I'm not to terribly sure about gapps 20121128_signed. Using it with Jandycane 1.8.0 gave me weird issues. 20121011-signed seems to be working pretty smoothly...haven't got one "gapps has closed message yet....course its only been a few hours.

Problem with 28 Nov. GooManager received update for Jandycane 1.8
[ROM][AOSP][10/10/2012] Jelly Bean Tablet Edition aka Project Jandycane version 1.8
(updates jandycane 20121020 and gapps 20121011 done on 09/11/12)
On 28 November GooManager automatically downloaded the following: gapps-jb-20121128-signed.zip
On the 29 November I flashed this on my first gen. Kindle Fire
As follows:
first did a Backup then wiped Cache and Dalvik and then started update - gapps-jb-20121128-signed.zip
after starting update got a Dalvik cache Directories wipe complete message (then)
Verifying Filesystem....

But there it seems to have stopped (completed?)
And under in TWRP I had the options: Wipe Cache/Dalvik - Home - Reboot System
I decided to choose Reboot system
The following happened:
I got a message "upgrading Android apps"
then it started in the normal ("turning mirror bits") loading window
then the usual password window
but the keyboard wouldn’t open!!! I couldn’t get past the password window
also I notice that the WLAN was no longer on/active (it had been on during the process)
I tried several reboots – still the same
I eventually decide to do a restore of Backup – this was successful!
I have no idea what is or went wrong
Is there something wrong with this gapps-jb-20121128-signed.zip it certainly seems like it?????????
Any other experiences? Anybody know what is wrong? What should be done (now)?
Experienced advice requested on gapps updates

Request: Can the more experienced please give me some clarity about gapps updates.
Judging by my (and other users experiences) the update “gapps-jb-20121128-signed.zip” is either corrupt, or not suited to certain kinds of Android systems including my installed jandycane 1.8 with updates jandycane 20121020 and gapps 20121011.
I assumed that the updates were like a Windows system updates – fixing problems, and security issues.
So I just went ahead and installed/flashed gapps-jb-20121128. Big Mistake!
So how do I deal with gapps updates?
Ignore them all? Leave everything as it is.
Or how can I tell that an update is okay/required for my jandycane 1.8 flashed ROM?
How can I tell which I should Flash and which not? And which are maybe necessary?
So as to avoid making a mistake and perhaps accidently Bricking my Kindle Fire
That update is for 4.2 devices only

[Q] Google Play has stopped working.

I've looked through the other threads on this issue, and I've not found an answer that seems to apply to me.
I've just installed the latest version of TWRP (2.8.5.0) and the latest version of CyanogenMod, and now I get an incessantly recurring message that "Unfortunately, Google Play has stopped."
I've cleared the data. I've cleared the cache. I've uninstalled updates for Google apps. None of those fixes have worked.
I've done a factory reset, which makes the problem go away initially, but as I try to download apps, I get through maybe one or two, and it comes back.
Help?

I've gotten a similar problem but with Viper Rom 4.3.0 and instead it happens with almost every Google related app and a lot more other apps that I use.
I think I MIGHT have this fixed. At least, I've been able to install multiple apps, so far, without this issue recurring.
I Booted into Recovery (TWRP) > Wipe > Advance Wipe
In Adanced Wipe, I selected the following partitions:
Dalvik Cache
Cache
System
Data
I let that do it's thing, then I reimaged CyanogenMod, I reimaged Google Apps, and I reimaged the SuperSU binaries.
I booted back into the system, and ... so far, so good. Hope it stays that way.

Delete the folder com.facebook.katana and Internal sdcard and now update facebook.
This will do it
I had deleted all files which had facebook in name but nevermind because I found solution:
Reboot phone to TWRP, then go to Advanced > Fix Permissions. Admittedly I had some error exactly about "/data/data/com.facebook(...)" and TWRP show "Fix Permissions Failed" but facebook app works fine finally
BTW thats pure chance, because I did that for solve "System UID Inconsistent" error on boot (which also has disappeared)

Just got ze551 and updated CM. Now can't install google play services/play store

I'm not sure what to do here. I just got my Zenfone 2 (ze551ml/z00a) and noticed I had a notification for a system update and foolishly thought it would be no big deal to proceed to install it. I think it was on CM 12.1 previously and the update was for CM 13 but not sure but after it updated it axed pretty much all the apps that were on it including any Google services. Wouldn't be a big deal since the update was literally the first thing I've done with the phone after porting #/service---haven't imported contacts or anything---but I can't just download an APK of the Play store or Google services. I've tried this through APK downloads and through the Google installer app (which is in Chinese regardless of whether I got it off the xiaomi market or not). The results weren't much different with each attempt. I get either "There was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later" when trying to sign in when launching play store or""Google Play services won't run unless you update Google Play services.", which I cannot do.
So I can't really do much of anything right now with the phone and really regret installing the CM update. I got Open Gapps but (x86, 6.0, full I think?) but I'm not sure what to do with it. I have experience rooting phones and have rooted my last two phones but I'm no expert when it comes to smartphones. I just want this phone to be usable again, I don't care whether I am using stock or cyanogenmod. How can I get Google services and alike to run is open gapps the solution or do I need to find some recovery rom to try to flash to? I've seen so many completely different solutions to this that I don't know where to go from here. I did a factory reset but that had no effect and the solutions I tried here thus far haven't worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you leave a bitcoin wallet address and your solution helps I'll gladly send you a tip for your efforts. Thanks!!
Have you tried reformatting, and flashing gapps and rom? The phone settings was likely tinkered.
What recovery have you got loaded ? If twrp which it should be , being on cm ? Cm 13.1 gets updates and notifications for updates , so download gapps for android 6 x86 ..boot into recovery and flash latest gapps .
What build number date etc ?

Not sure which recovery, it had like 6 grey square-ish buttons when I entered it last time. But when you say 'download gapps' you mean get Open Gapps right? I booted into recovery mode with the zip of it but didn't have a guide handy so I didn't mess with it. So I was on the right track it sounds like, I'll give that a shot with a guide and reply here with the results.

Don't have youtube or any google apps unfortunately, the update to CM 13 removed most of the apps.
Yes just head over to cm 13 for z00a if your device in " original android development section"? , and follow cm flashing instructions ,
What build number and date of build installed ?

I guess I got ahead of myself. I tried installing open gapps from recovery, looked like it worked so I wiped cache and after the phone started I just get a barrage of "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped" and 'play store has stopped" over and over again. So now I can't check what version I have but I know it was CM 13 and one of the latest three available nightly builds with android 6.0.1, I did try installing the 'official' google apps first but I got an error like "unable to update file" or something---guessing I should have tried unlocking the bootloader first? The official unlocker tool is an .apk so now thats off the table. But if this phone has TWRP on it then doesn't that mean the previous owner already unlocked it (I bought it used)? Should I try unlocking first or go straight to flashing CM13?
I'm assuming you are saying to get the CM 13 ROM for z00A from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen.../rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-nightly-builds-t3264492
I'll download that and give it a shot.
edit:
Do I want the .zip for CM13 (CM Build) or the recovery (.img) or both? screenshot. the guide isn't really clear. I'm going into recovery/TWRP to see if I can find out my version # of CM---I think its the version from 5/23 but I'm not sure
Well the guide is straight forward , you will have download new twrp and flash that for future updates to flash correctly , there are tonnes of threads to get you back up and running around here , take your time ..enjoy .
You say you cannot boot into system so put all files on SD card and select storage in twrp ..flash ROM ..gapps .. and latest twrp ..so you can back up at earliest instance
If any probs , try YouTube ..there's a few vids for flashing cm13 on zen 2

Updated TWRP to v3 first then flashed CM13 from the thread I linked above (the zip, not the img). along with the x86-nano version of opengapps. Worked perfectly. Wish I would have done that from the start instead of messing around with trying to get opengapps to work without the flashed CM and whatnot. Seems to be running perfect, got bunch of apps off play store already with no problem getting my contacts and other Google stuff.
Thanks for the pushes in the right direction!:good::good::good::good:
Now the ZF2 is starting to grow on me, got it instead of waiting for the HTC One A9 price to drop and I'm feeling like I made the right call.
Great news , better that you sorted it yourself .
Now save a back up on PC and keep forever lol just in case

Go into Settings, then tap on Apps.
Locate Pokemon Go, tap on it. Then tap on 'Force Stop'.
As for how to clear it's data and cache... depends on which OS you use... in Android 6.0.1. you'd tap on 'Storage' and the options to clear data and cache should be there.
OK thans a lot now i can play pokémon go but no pokémon were i am my life is so sad

I tried this and the game simply crashes after the splash screen as usual.
This started happening on 0.29.3 version on Friday for some reason, and when I removed the newest version and replaced it with 0.29.2, same issue.
I hadn't tried this procedure with 0.29.2 though.
However, if it's of any relevance, my Star Trek Wrath of Gems game also refuses to load properly. It finished loading all assets, but when the loading bar reaches 100%, a few seconds later, the app just vanishes and I'm thrown back to the main screen.
All of this started happening on Friday morning.
I also did a full wipe and even replaced Resurrection Remix (older version) with beanstalk (and latest Ressurection Remix after that).
The issue as described for both games persists on either ROM.
Mind you, the google play games app update might be causing issues with Wrath of Gems... but I am at a loss as to what is crashing Pokemon GO since Friday morning on 29.2 and 29.3 versions all of a sudden (when the night before everything was working fine) and on any MM ROM I tried.
EDIT: Pokemon GO seems to work now (downloaded and installed 0.29.2 version a new and now it suddenly works).
0.29.3 version however seems to be a bust for me.
Star trek Wrath of Gems however still throws me out to the main screen after the loading bar has finished loading assets, etc (could be the updated game is messed up on Intel chipsets).
the game is broke as heck. don't expect a stable version for a while. All my devices crash and freeze randomly. frustrating
Could somebody put a link in here for version 29.2 in here? I'd hate to get one of those malware versions.

I found that if you touch the screen while battery saver mode is on, the game freezes. That and if your network disconnects, but that is expected since it relies on game servers.
