Battery issues

My phone has TERRIBLE battery life. It lasts about 2 hours usually and sometimes 2 and a half. I'm running the stock GB from that came with the phone, but I am rooted. I have tried every single from out there..none of them give me sufficient battery life. By the time i get home from school by battery is down to 30%. What could be causing this? I'm also on my third warranty replacement phone and my second battery.

Normally I would suggest going to stock for people but in your case, maybe custom is the answer.
Do you have loads of apps and accounts setup by the way?

This really has no useful information to be helped. 2 hours? On stand by, screen on time, any cpu tuners, etc?
Maybe take screenshots of what the battery chart looks like and what apps have the highest percentage.
It is about 2 and a half hours of screen on time. And I can't get a screenshot of it because I just flashed a new rom, and my battery hasn't had a chance to settle in with the new rom yet. If it doesn't improve I will post a pic of my battery stats. Thanks.

Well, I'm guessing there is an app that keeps running constantly. You should try an ICS ROM, that might help.

Same problem
I've been experiencing identical issues with my T989. I've had terrible battery life without many apps running in the background (as I use the stock task manager to execute all running apps). I've finally decided to root my device and install a 'set cpu speed' app. Even though I've set my minimum cpu speed to 200 MHz and max to 800 MHz it's still lasts for a maximum of 4 hours until I get the "Battery is critically low" message.
Does samsung provide warranty for their batteries? Because I've called to complain about battery life and they asked me to remove the battery and send the device itself so they could repair it. And under no circumstances would they offer me an exchange for the battery, maybe I just caught a bad rep?
I love this phone and all it's features and prefer this over the iPhone but I feel like i'm being forced to just purchase the iPhone 4s.

My GNex Battery gets to 30% then just dies.

hi i have a
Gnex
im using
>Codenameandroid v3.3.2
>Trinity kernal
Everytime my phone reaches around 30% my phone just dies, then wont start till i connect it to a ac wall charger.
i have two batteries and at first i thought it might of been a ebay battery i purchase but it does it with both.
any help?
Try to wipe the battery stat in recovery.
I tried wiping it Ndnit continues to behave this way. Thank you for replying

Did this just start happening with the new kernel? If you are sure it isnt a hardware/battery issue, I would set it back to stock and see if that fixes it. Hopefully its just a bad combination of kernel/rom. Good luck !
You know what it might be the kernal I using the Trinity kernal experimental 537. I'm flash back to the stable version. See if that helps.

I had a odd quirk earlier today. My phone showed around 40-55% the suddenly died. I turned it back on and saw 8% left.. hasn't happened again but was strange.

Android system question

Hi guys, I got my Galaxy Note 2 a few days ago....upgraded from the S3 im dead pleased with it and the power is immense! but....
My "Android System" is using far too much battery....I saw somewhere the 'norm' is between 10-15% and as you can see mine is twice (and a bit) that amount.
Could anyone help or advise what to do to fix the situation.
Thanks guys
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Let the system stabilize for a few days.
Then again check the battery performance over a longer duration and not few minutes like your screen shot shows.
This note 2 has got good batteries. Don't worry.
Cheers!!!!
That percentage is viewed related to how long your device was on & in your screen shot it is on only for almost 10min & I think its not enough to gudge.
My opinion drain a full battery then judge what component is draining cbattery most

Thanks guys, seems to have calmed down now....currently sitting around 9-13%

Phone getting hot when using gps and mobile data

I have noticed this issue since 4.1.2 update on att. My phone is not rooted and completely stock.
When i use my s3 for navigation using google maps, the n in just 5 mins or so, my phone becomes really warm to hold..
When i first noticed this, i took off the case so that the phone could cool off...
This was not the issue with 4.1.1 firmware.
Anyone else has noticed this? Better yet found a solution?
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk
Just yesterday after I used Google Navigation the phone did get quite warm. Soon after it cools down but it does somewhat overheat when Google Maps/Navigation is used.
I have noticed the same thing. I use GPS a lot for work and it never got that hot with 4.1.1. Mine doesn't just get a little warm, it gets hot to the point I think it could get damaged.

As far as I know cpu hogging applications like navigation in Google maps usually make your phone quite hot.... and using mobile data always makes your phone hot... It's not a problem at all if you give your phone some time to cool down.
You have almost a 2ghz dual core cpu in between some plastic. It's going to get real hot sometimes. If you're not upping voltage you will be fine with.

My only question is whether this is due to the 4.1.2 update or the new maps updates. Both came out fairly recently. If it was the 4.1.2 update then it seems that for the step forward, they broke things.

Mostlikely it's 4.1.2 update... because if it was google maps issue then we would have heard lotsa noise by now....
Do ppl on sprint or t-mobile also have this issue?
I have almost stopped using my phone as gps as I am afraid it will get damaged with heat.

I will try navfree tomorrow and report is it still heats up my phone.
If it does then issue is with 4.1.2 update, else with google maps update.

Ok, I used navfree and noticed that the phone still got warm... so it must be the latest 4.1.2 firmware

Bumping...
Is there anyone whose phone does not get very warm when using gps?
Is there a way to cold boot s3 to see if that resolves the issue?

[Q] Is it possible to revert back to 4.3?

This KitKat update is complete crap, it's ruined a number of things on my device and added NOTHING. A week ago I was 100% satisfied with my Note 3, I could keep it forever on 4.3. Is it possible to go back? I'm stock, not-rooted.
If you took the ota, then no.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I took it OTA, it gave me no choice. I kept postponing the installation and then it eventually forced me to reboot my phone and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

Even if you use Odin to flash the 4.3 rom?
EDIT: yeah, according to a few posts in this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671167&page=5 it appears nope.
Yeah I found out the hard way and tripped my knox trying to go back. ...I hear you I loved my phone way better before. .. Now I feel like I have a hd2 with all the bugs lol

I honestly feel like buying another phone after updating to kitkat. I absolutely hate it. I can't wait until all the bugs are worked out so I can have a functional (for me) phone

My battery life has literally been cut in HALF. And that's just the beginning of the issue. Complete crap.

Mine too. Normally my battery would be at 80% right now. Now it's at 35 after only 5 hours of being off the charger. With screen on time of 1 hour. Somebody help us

After rooting my phone I found that the cpu min frequency was locking up at 1.95...And that is what is killing your battery... If you reboot it goes back

I just switched to T Mo last week and got a new Note 3 and being stupid, I went for Kit Kat update right away, now after two Note 3's, i'm still having a shiaty time with my new phone, especially the battery life. This really, and utterly sucks!! can't even go back to 4.3 no matter what unless I exchange phone a 3rd time!!

I've noticed a lot of different things with the processor. After on for a little while randomly some of the CPUs will activate did not sleep, normally cpu0 stays on all the time but cpu1-3 turn off to save battery, and at the same time the minimum frequency would get stuck at 1.95... When you reboot everything would reset back to the minimum of 300 mhz and the CPUs would sleep as normal

Really glad I stayed on 4.3 after hearing a lot of these horror stories mentioned in several threads. I had no intention of taking the OTA or Odin anyways just because I read a couple weeks before on a site that kitkat 4.4.2 was messing with how it handles the external sdcard and apps.
There's mixed reports of good/bad battery life on 4.4.2 and if the new bootloader really makes a difference yet, all I can say to those that did jump the gun or didn't know any better is things will get better as devs iron out the bugs and create custom kernels/roms to help you guys out. Does it suck waiting for all this.. hell yes it does but we have all been there before and just know you are in the right place here at XDA because these devs and members are here to help us all out thru hard times.
