[Q] Did i brick my phone? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok, so i rooted my phone on my mac from galaxys3root.com
I then decided i wanted to root my phone from windows instead as i thought it was a more stable way (new to rooting)
so i went through the unrooting steps on that same website. downloaded triangle away and reset the binary.
step 2 was to put into download mode, so i help vol down, home and power button. screen went black and thats it.
now phone wont turn on, and wont go into download mode.
am i screwed?

So you were already rooted, then unrooted and tried to root again? Why? As long as the phone is rooted you can flash ROMs regardless of computer, as long as u can get all the files onto ur phone to flash in recovery

im not sure, im new to rooting.
i thought it wasnt stable or something because rooting through mac you dont go into download mode or recovery mode
(i cant get into download or recovery. My phone is completely off, the only sign of life ive seen from it now is a red led light come on when i plug into usb without the batter in)

can anyone help?

Then sorry, nothing I can help you with

I suggest taking it to AT&T. That was the only sign of life I had after I dropped my rooted phone, they replaced it under warranty. To be clear, my phone was under two out-of-warranty conditions, and it was replaced because the cause of failure isn't so readily apparent in this case. Just say you don't know why it won't turn on. Too easy.

mag7ear appears
When plugged into my computer, it says
found new hardware QHSUSB_DLOAD
does that mean anything

I think that means it's dead, though I could be mistaken. I'm surprised no one recommended finding a USB jig. They're supposed to force the phone into download mode when nothing else will. It's not clear if that would work in this case, but they're extremely cheap.

Send it to samsung They can fix it for freee.
But for 60 bucks or so JTAG can get it done allittle bit quicker

Before you try sending it away, I would try downloading MSKIP's Galaxy S3 toolkit. Make sure you have all the relevant drivers and see if the toolkit is able to see it and kick it into download mode. You can find the download link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1633
There are very clear, explicit instructions provided with the toolkit - I would also take the time to view wwjoshdew's video, very helpful. If you are able to get the phone into download mode, re-flash a stock, rooted rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Not sure what else to tell you, but that's what I would try. Hope it helps.

Urgent Help needed, USB not being recognized!

I'm looked everywhere but nothing. Please help if you can.
I was on BeastMOD2.5 then some things on the phone were not working (Tmobile S2) so I called in and they shipped me a replacement. I used this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323878) to restore it back to stock and unroot the phone and it worked besides one problem, I still got the synergy kernel gray screen at bootup, so as of now, i'm at stock, unrooted just with that synergy kernel screen. I looked it up and found the ODIN stock way to get it back so I tried that way, but now everytime I hook the USB to my computer to try to ODIN it, it always says USB not recognized (I've tried searching for fixes: clean USB, reinstall drivers, reinstall Klies, other computers, other USB cord, other USB ports but nothing).
I just need to get that synergy kernel screen off from bootup, but now that I cannot hook up the phone to any computer, what should I do? Is there a wireless option I have? Is there a way to brick the phone to where it won't even boot up when tmobile gets it back that they wouldn't even know? thing is it will also charge using a computer, but the computer won't recognize it (im done the whole settings USB options as well)
Please help, thanks guys.
any ideas?

I've tried that and i've tried this on 4 PC's and my usual Mac that I use to transfer files but no luck.
I also tried the debugging mode but nothing as well. Ill try for a couple more days with random things but since the rom is stock and everything is basically like out the box status if I were to return it with the synergy kernel screen on bootup, what would tmobile say even though everything is stock even the kernel?
Hey Buddy, there had been a few of us that has had the same problem.
For some reason, after you restored your phone back to stock, you still have the Synergy Logo when turn on and you lose your USB drivers, somehow, I don't know why. I tried so many ways for my computer to locate my phone, but after so many hours of looking, I gave up. Sold my phone to my friend and got another one.
Lesson learn. Someone should look into a solution for this problem
Thanks.

This is good to know for anyone that is looking to restore phone back to stock.
So I'm guessing people should install stock kernel first via Odin and then flash stock rom/recovery.
Maybe this will take care of Synergy logo.
What steps did you take?

+1 From the posts Ive read the people that have had this issue have used the zedomax flash. Safest bet for anyone looking to go back to stock should stick with the odin method. I think there should be a warning in the index thread next to the [HOWTO] [ROM] How to Unroot SGH-T989 Painlessly link about the usb issue and also the kernel boot image even thou if people would just read the whole thread they would see that others have already reported the kernel image issue......
Returning the phone with that would land you an out if warranty fee

[Q] Problems with ODIN recognition

So it seems that ODIN can only recognize my phone if the phone is powered on and running but will not recognize it in download mode. I am using the same cables I have used in the past as well as the same computer running Windows 7. Running stock ICS FH13 Unrooted and trying to root but cannot because once I enter download mode, ODIN stops seeing the device. Have tried re installing drivers many times and all USB ports on the computer with different USB cables. Hoping that somebody has a suggestion for getting the phone to be recognized in download mode for me.

Some more information. Turns out the phone (originally my friend's) needed to be taken in for service and when he did this he read somewhere about the USB jig to remove the custom binary counter. When he did this he flashed a gingerbread bootloader to use the jig. Only thing is, he didn't ask me for help (I've usually helped him out with this stuff in the past) and I think he flashed an international version of the bootloader. Reason being when I boot the phone it says Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 where it should not have that last part. I remember reading somewhere about this and how it happened to somebody but they had CWM recovery and flashed a special zip. I do not have this option because of the stock recovery and unrooted ROM. Just wondering if there is anything that can be done to reverse this. I can run the phone and use it still but would rather root it and continue the way I have always done with my past phones.

Do u put your phone in download mode then hit volume up then connect to usb?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yes, I go from full power off with USB unplugged and press and hold the power and vol down keys until I get the warning screen. I then hit vol up to continue and then plug in my phone to the computer.
With further research seems as though I am hosed. In download mode it lists my device as "product name: GT-i9100" where it should say "product name: SPH-D710" Still hoping someone can save me so I'm not stuck on stock but seems as though this device had a international phone's bootloader flashed onto it.

My Galaxy S3 wont charge , turn on , Connect to Pc

Yesterday i rooted and tried to install a Rom and used Rom manager to go into recovery mode. I thought you had to do the down+home+power and now when I try to do anything it wont work power button 20 sec , power+home , up/down+power+home,nothing.When i tried plug it into the computer it makes that sound when something failed to connect to the pc. When i tried holding the power button i hear the sound of the device successfully connect to the pc but when i look theres no phone on the computer and when i let go of the power button it stops. Any help would be very much appreciated and i will never do anything to risk my device being broken again...

Try a different usb slot sometimes a usb slot may malfunction I had that problem.
Also don't use a usb extender hub if you are it may screw with the voltage.
a new usb I'm sure you've heard that one but this has the least chance of working because you the s3 makes the noise which means the usb works
Try a new computer and check that you have Kies installed
Try to restart the laptop that also helps

Unfortunately, I have this exact same problem. I'm really scared that I may have bricked my device...
The last time my phone was working, I simply updated my phone to CM10's latest update for the phone. Everything was working perfectly fine. All I did was download the latest rom from get.cm for my sgs3.
Then I read online that this new 4.1.2 rom came out. As a new member XDA won't allow me to post the link of the rom...but you can find it in the Original Development Thread of the T-Mobile SGS3. Slim-i9300-2.7.0-OFFICIAL is the name of the rom [I copied it directly].
After making a backup of my current rom, installing this rom and installing the new gapps, I rebooted the device and nothing has worked since... [this happened about 12 hours ago].
Now, when I take out the battery and plug the charger in, the notification light becomes solid red. But nothing works...I can't go into download mode, I can't go into recovery. I knew this immediately when the phone did not vibrate after me holding down the power button for a few minutes.
The red notification light only turns on when I plug in the phone when the battery is out. If I put the battery in, after a few moments it goes away. I honestly thought maybe the battery was just dead...but I left it plugged in all night and I still can't do anything with the phone.
Please, any help for me and whtnld would be much appreciated...
@OP
Did you mod the build.prop for any reason? (Google wallet maybe?)
If you did and then tried to update/install recovery through Rom Manager, it may have tried to install the wrong recovery on the wrong partition, resulting in a hard brick.

Easy Way to find out if it's hard bricked is to connect your phone to pc... If pc displays qhsusb - I forget what else then you are hard bricked and need to jtag fix it which should run you around 60 buxs. Sorry bud if that's the case but next time don't flash anything i9300 if you have a t999

[Q] Bricked, computer won't recognize phone in Download mode, won't boot, no recovery

Hello all,
I have flashed ROMs via recovery and Odin plenty of times. I would say I generally know what I am doing and I flash ROMs on the regular. This is my second Samsung device and have been rooting/flashing for almost two years, so not a noob.
I was stuck in a bootloop on my Note and it wouldn't even let me boot into recovery, so I decided to Odin and back to stock and try again... I got the one-click, phone recognized, yellow COM box popped up, hit start, walked away for 10-15 minutes. Come back and there has barely been any progress at all... I could barely see the green progress bar. I figured something is wrong because I've done this before and it only takes a minute at most. What I did next is what I think messed me up...I pulled my phone and closed the Odin dialogue box and tried to redo it. Problem is, nothing I could do would get me the Yellow COM box. The phone goes into download mode but Odin doesn't seem to want to recognize it. I've tried EVERYTHING. When I boot the phone normally, I get the Samsung error screen saying there was an issue with a firmware upgrade and I should try Kies. I download Kies and attempt to upgrade firmware that way, but I get to the last step where it says "Upgrade Firmware" or something like that on the button but the button remains greyed out and I can't click it... I have tried everything. I downloaded the toolkit and installed drivers but each time I do that, the driver install freezes my PC at the end of the install. Same thing happens if I try to get the drivers from the Samsung site directly, the computer freezes. I have rebooted a million times and tried every USB port there is. I have had the computer try to "set up" the deivce while it's in download mode a few times but usually hangs at the end (probably bc drivers not properly installing). Once or twice it setup fine, but still Odin won't recognize. I think the driver thing is moot because it was recognizing the device before this mess just fine and it recognizes and accesses my wife's S2 just fine.
I am at my wit's end. Did I destroy my phone???? Is there nothing I can do to salvage it?
I just aged about five years in the last 2 hours. Please someone help!!!
Longshot, but try installing the toolkit on a different system and try again. I've had drivers from different systems mixed up and it worked fine when installed on a fresh system. Probably not your problem, but worth a try before trying to warranty your phone. Good Luck.
Also try a different usb cable.

Different cable didn't work.
I'll try a different system but I'm not holding out hope.
Will warranty work if in Odin mode the phone says that I have a custom ROM and custom recovery installed???
Am I out of luck here? I always thought that if it boots up, it's not completely bricked. Shouldn't a PC see it if I get the drivers installed???
If no computer sees it and the Download/Odin screen shows Root and custom ROM/Recovery so no warranty replacement, what are my options?

You say it finds your wife's phone just fine and she has the same model? Have you tried installing the drivers manually through the driver update in device manager?
As to other options, if you're paying for the additional insurance Sprint offers, and are willing to pay the $200 deductable (as opposed to the $500 replacement cost) you could always turn it on and drop it in a bucket of water. They won't be able to pull root/rom info from the unit at that point. Otherwise I think it's a matter of luck as to what kind of techs work in the store you go to. I've heard stories about those who were sticklers and those who didn't care (the latter tend to those who root their own phones). All you can do is ask, hypothetically of course.
Wish I could be more help. Good luck.
Please help!!! Does anyone have any other advice?

If you can get the drivers to extract (I know it crashes when you try to install) you could still try the manual update method for your phone's drivers. (can't count how many times I've had to do that for peripherals and my win7 laptop that isn't certified for win7)
Did you try completely uninstalling the drivers before you tried to reinstall them?

try this.http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=228 same idea just different modem. read through and make sure you understand what garwin is saying. If you dont have anything special on your internal sd card I would use the wipe all as the no data restore didnt work for me some reason. also download this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155 as it will hook you up with the right drivers.

Thanks but this is exactly what I tried first and continue to try... The problem is I unplugged the phone while the one-click was doing its thing because it wasn't progressing. The phone still goes into to Download mode but the one-click no longer 'sees' the phone when I plug it in, so I can't try again...

You said the computer doesnt recognize it right? If it did I would recommend flashing a custom recovery then going from there.

If I get my computer to somehow recognize the device via the drivers, I should not use the odin one-click to just go back to stock? How do I install a custom recovery if I can't boot into Android?

I would download the tool kit and reinstall the drivers from their. I had the exact same problem months ago. took hours of trying to flash different stuff to get it to work. make sure that you try to unplug then replug in the cord and I think you must use a cord that is made for your phone. Mine wont work unless I use the one supplied with it which is weird but I read somewhere that the prongs are longer or something.open the oneclick oden then plug the phone in and let it sit for a min or 2

I'm going to try tonight on a different computer.
So you think I should do the following:
1. install drivers
2. open odin one-click
3. put phone in download mode
4. plug phone in
5. even though yellow COM thing should pop up right away let it sit for a while
6. flash one-click back to stock
I'll give it a shot after work.

I have actually had this happen before. I couldnt get anything to work even the one click. So what I did was use the toolkit to flash a custom recovery with the stock kernel. Then when it rebooted I held the volume up home, and power buttons. Go into recovery and nandriod back to my previous rom and it worked. But my pc did recognize my device.

I didn't know you could flash a recovery to the phone without booting to Android. The toolkit says boot to android as pre-req for installing recovery. If I could get to recovery I could fix this. I'll give it all a shot again tonight.

Hi I have a samsung galaxt s3 sgh-t999, I rooted my phone with no problems and wanted to be able to move apps to sd card so I went to rom manager and clicked on partition sd card and it said it was going to reboot it shut off and now it wont turn back on, wont go into recovery mode, if i plug it into the computer, the computer dont pick it up, when i plug in the charger it does nothing... I really need help, is there away to fix it or do I have a $500 door stop or paper weight??? all help appreciated
I too Have a T999L that is hard bricked. No issues rooting. used swapper 2 and link2sd and got hard bricked. I am running du_d2tmo-2013-10-14 rom 4.3 JB. I attempted the debrick method using both nix and winblows.. no results whatsoever . not a single error. in fact, i cannot get my T999L to do anything at all. i plug it into the pc and IF the battery is out, the red light comes on. with the battery in, it does nothing at all. ANY help would be greatly appreciated

Can you get into download mode? Does it show up on Odin? If it does then flash a root66 img root66_TMO_T999UVUEMJC for my Tmobile T999 This is what I used when I thought my phone was bricked. I used Odin to flash TWRP recovery and then format, and flash a custom rom. Good luck

Rom Manager most likely partitioned your INTERNAL SD Card instead. You'd have to Flash Root66 for Android 4.2 via Odin.

You may need a debrick.img created from a device with the NC1 firmware. Do you know what build you were on before it bricked?
We dont have that NC1 image yet, that im aware of, but ill see if I cant find someone to make one.

I was on the pac 4.4 nightly, had flashed new nightly updates regularly for nearly a month with no problems, but then decided to switch to cm11, when I tried to flash that it gave me the bootloader error, so I went to the method that was a supposed fix for that and flashed it and thats when it went dead.
Same Problem
Hey guys I have the same exact problem heres how it started, which I think accurately describes everyone else with the same problem:
1) I downloaded the correct TWRP for my phone and unlocked it previously with ODIN.
2) So far everything is fine, now I find a nice new ROM which is stable and try to flash it. The rom was: FlashingDroid_S5_v2.2
3)First I deleted cache and dalvic cache as well, basically the default wipe.
4) I flashed the ROM and it said it was succesful, I click reboot, and nothing
Symptoms
1)No vibration
2)No screen image whatsoever
3)No signs of booting up with computer
4) Does not boot up using JIG method
5)Computer does not see phone
Notes
1) I tried checking the pulse of the phone W/out battery and gave me very little wattage, and eventually it drained out
2) Then I tried plugging it into my computer and the front red light went on but no power in phone and PC cannot see it
3) Sometimes when I put the battery in, it gives me a quick flash, from the flashlight on the back, OR it gives a millisecond of a vibration
4)Before I flashed I had android 4.3 Jellybean stock with root-again I tried to flash FlashingDroid_S5_v2.2 w/TWRP
Trials to resolve in which did NOT work
1) I tried putting it into download mode, with JIG but no battery and had someone put the battery in WHILE i was pressing HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN with the JIG
Results: It sometimes gave me a small vibration, but no results
2) Tried to install correct ODIN and KIES software
Result: Gave me negative sound on laptop meaning it does not recognize device-it does not show up in My Computer either
Having the same issue.
I used the FlashingDroid_S5_v2.2 rom. Wiped the phone before flashing, the prompt said successful and rebooted.
Then nothing.
No response from charging, power, download mode... nothing.
