OK. so i followed the following guide to root my G2 from Cyan's wiki..
I messed around with the cyan settings under performance and I am not sure If my overclock settings are appropriate.
What is a safe min and max frequency for someone like me who wants smooth performance, better battery life but does not want to take too much of a risk in destroying my phone?
Also does the app SetCpu conflict with the built in Cyan overclocking options?
Thanks

In the first/second post in the CM7 thread they state a 1017/368 ondemand is recommended; SetCPU will, of course, conflict if you have both OC set from within settings and also with SetCPU running; there's no reason to use both.

Thank you good sir
the whole spectrum from minimum to maximum is completely safe... the phone has been tested to be stable at around 1.8ghz, but there's no need to go that high.
I wonder, because I've always been into gaming on alot of consoles, so I'd like to play games on my EVO, but smoothly

About the best thing you can do is get a lightweight ROM, Overclock your custom kernel
R2R going green and download no frills app to overclock, whatever it is if its sense I strongly reccomend amon ra recovery and ChopSuey kernel

I would go with decks with tiamat overclocked with chainfire3D

+10 This is the correct answer!!
Honestly any good aosp ROM.....decks, cm7, whatever. U should also give the savagedzen kernel a go. My handset seems to like it better, especially for intense graphic stuff......tiamat is still the standard though.
Thanks guise, should give them a try :3
i came into this thread, curious, since i've turned my evo into a media/game device and was wondering if there was a better setup than i'm currently using.
but apparently deck's 1.3 with tiamat 3.3.7 sbc and chainfire3d is... pretty hard to beat
I was not saying sense was better for gameing, I was saying if u are going to use sense that will work great on ALL levels, as in customization, speed, and simplicity...

Who's thread? I'm curious on how to use CF3D
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14091373
Chainfire3d basically replaces your opengl driver with his modified version. Download the app, open it up, and click install Chainfire3d drivers. In his thread he gives pretty detailed information on what each of the settings do.
Deck's AOSP Rom or Barnacles AOSP Rom are the best to try, they are as base as you can get (CM7 comes with ADW Launcher blah) And either kernels mentioned above but I use Tiamat.
Use setCPU to set up 'performance' governor and max speed of 1.19 anything in the 1.2 range and you risk freezing/crashing. It all depends on your phone tho so you're welcome to try out 1.2Ghz OC if your phone can handle that stable.
Chainfire isn't really required as I only use it in rare occasions. usually to play Tegra based games or to use it's OpenGL features to lower texture quality etc..
Only drawback to the AOSP roms I've found tho are that multi-touch can be a bit buggy, if you're pressing with one finger already then another to move the screen around in lets say an FPS game, it's very choppy whereas Sense roms are smooth (but it might just be phone specific) Another slight issue I've noticed in AOSP roms is they make poor use of the radio/wifi drivers, I get better signal/wifi reception on Sense based roms, but this was a topic for gaming so anyway.. I'm currently testing a recently released sense 1 official Evo OG rom for games and I'm actually impressed (using it with stock kernal no SetCPU) soon I will be trying out some kernels but if you hate AOSP you should give some of the custom OG Roms a try.

I think it's better to overclock via CM settings, but for any other ROM you must use SetCPU or simmilar apps to overclock

hello dude... I will give u the clear idea...
u can use both Set CPU or Inbuilt setting in CM...... but the difference is that "set cpu" or any other similar tools will have the option of making profiles... that is the only advantage, so u can go for anyone thats not a problem, but i suggest SETCPU..
And u cannot overclock above 691Mhz in cm 7.1.0.1... if u do so, then it will stuck up.. so i use max - 672 & min - 2XX... with "on demand" profile in SETCPU.. It runs quite smoothly.....
All the best...

Just because you can't doesn't mean others can't, I run perfect at 788 and know others do too.
Its the tolerance of your CPU which determines how fast you can o/c not the rom.

oh if it is true sorry for that... but here we 3 people using that rom in htc wildfire, cant o/c above 691... and also a friend of mine who had same problem as above, but he can able to o/c at 768Mhz in a different rom (not cm 7.1.0.1 as we used).. think its rooted wildfire with android 2.2..

Scratch is totally correct.stable Overclocking is totally CPU dependent and doesn't matter which rom ur using. Now you might not be able to o/c some roms due to the KERNEL!!!
I can overclock also to 768 but seems my phone works best at 633.

i'm a little bit confused.. @[email protected]
which is which sir ? do i need to flash another kernel ?
No....... just leave the kernel alone, the chances of you being able to o/c anymore than you can already are slim + you probably wouldn't even notice the difference in speed anyway.
Also fruit ninja doesn't work for me either, its probably because we have no gpu.

Hello guyz. I need some tips to improve my willy's battery performance.
1) Should i use "Easy battery saver" or "juice defender" ?
2) what settings should i choose ?
3) i'm using Rempuzzle rom and have overclocked it to 691 Mhz - 352 Mhz.
4) are there any scripts ?
I use my mobile alot and it doesnt lasts for for more than 12 hours... in that time battery decreases to less than 15% & then i charge it.
5) supercharger or juwe ram optimization ? Or both ?
6) setcpu governor ? Ondemand or smartass ?

To choose between the apps my opinion will be to try them and to see which works best for you. I would also have the governer smartass v2 (it is in cm7 settings however i don't know about rempuzzle). There is the v6 supercharger script. It improves battery life, here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2043498&highlight=script. Check your display settings and having a constant mobile internet connection drains your battery (especially if you have a lot of accounts like whatsapp, gtalk, etc.).
And you can downclock it If you are not play games, will see no difference if it is on 576mhz or 691mhz I tested app launch speed with all frequencies and it is not noticeable, but try it. I guess battery saving apps wont help much. (at least did not worked for me)

I know, have one just sayin you can test it no harm if u play games overclock it of course. Dont look for MLFLOOPS or how its called... just use it and get stopwatch i tested like on launching apps coz that is the only thing that is bit slow. Try and see for yourself. I mean, find optimal settings. Good luck

Yeah seems i found a fine combination. Using cm7.2 and setcpu setting profiles etc but best rom is rempuzzle handsdown
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda app-developers app
CPU tuner
Oh... that just reminded me do download CPU tuner and give it another chance Before i had problems with it, but it was another rom, anotha kernel...
Did not take me long to set up and to test it.
I use screen on/screen off trigers.
Screen on max frequency: 576mhz (OC when needed)
Screen off max frequency: 176mhz
Kernel version: 2.6.35.14-nFinity [email protected] #1
And there is no lag when it waking up!! So far so perfect
So i found the answer.
Best stock rom: rempuzzle
Use setcpu, set profiles
Overclock to 710 max 352 min
Governor: smartass
For cyanogenmod:
Best rom: cm7.2 (stable)
Set profiles wirh setcpu
Overclock max 710 min 352
Governor: smartassv2
For good performance as well as battery life.

no
I can not agree.
For cynogenmod, best ROM version is nightly as i had sound bugs, in-call volume etc. with stable 7.2... (and all based roms on stable)
And in nightly only bug is when you take screenshot. (sometimes do it right, sometimes do not)
Either min clock freq can go to 264 as well!!!
And use CPU tuner it is free :good:

yup everyone has their own opinions and hence no one could decide a beat rom for all.
And btw,rempuzzle isn't a stock rom,its a 'custom sense rom'.

No, actually i prefer not supercharging, supercharge give you GREAT(I MEAN REALLY GREAT) multitasking, which on the other hand gives you less power for hard gaming.
Seeder gives you perfect performance and is supposed to give a better battery life(didn't notice a change in battery) so i think it is FANTASTIC tweak
and for the record (not being arrogant) i have improved that rom to give good gaming, good multitasking and it has some battery tweaks, the only problem is that the GB doesn't support the latest GPU drivers, so some games (not all) has some minor graphic bugs
Try going the pristine way, i suggest using CM10 because i simply love that rom.
While using CM9 RC2. Try using kernels with bigmem or maxmem. If you dont take picture at all, use maxmem all the way.
I suggest hadi's bigmem. More memory, less hassle. And its lulzactive is great for gaming. Use seeder v7. These 2 should get you going enough.
