Phone: Xperia Play R800X (CDMA) *Unlocked Bootloader*
I recently got a new Xperia Play, unlocked the bootloader ( Via alejandrissmo ) and rooted it. I'm having a lot of problems flashing ANY kind of ICS/JB rom to it.
The roms I performed these steps with was PACman
First thing I did was install CWM recovery 5.0.2.7 ( 2.3.3 ) with RecoveryX. I then flashed the LupusV5 kernal that every rom has told me to flash, but after I do this I cant get into recovery. All it does is display the Lupus logo and stays there (left on for 30 mins to verify)
After this fail I .tft the 2.3.3 stock rom and re-rooted and installed CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7 (4.0) thinking that since I'm flashing a 4.1 rom I would need a 4.0 recovery. This ended up exactly the same Boot logo.
After spending a lot of time doing and re-doing x3 these steps I gave up the install instructions provided and tried some different things. I tried to install the rom pre-kernal flash but the recovery aborts with status 7 which from what I remember from the last time I saw this it means I'm trying to flash an ext4 ROM from an ext3 version of CWR. but I get this message with both versions of CWM.
Please any help is super appreciated

Pacman is unofficial jb thats different. What im trying to say is you cant install any GSM gingerbread roms. Gingerbread is crucial for serious gaming.

OK.... To get into recovery... You have to continuously hit either the back button- lupus kernel/doom kernel, or the Vol down- cm kernel/xparts recovery.... As for black screen... Thats because it doesn't have any data to load... So when you boot phone after flashing kernel with working recovery... As soon as you see the logo start pressing the back or Vol down... That will get you into recovery to flash ROM.

Strange perhaps copy everything from your sdcard and re format your sdcard, then copy everything back over. You do not need to install CWM custom kernels will have CWM build into ramdisk. And ye for me kernel back button when leds turn on.

Yea some kernels take a long time to load as I had to wait exactly 42 minutes for the kernel to vibrate and flash the led green, pink then blue so just sit there and watch it... BTW I was using LuPuS kernel

Its strange cos I noticed all JB kernels take longer to boot and it looks like its frozen but then boots but never takes me longer then 20seconds to boot into the ROM. If it hangs for any longer I just reflash kernel and it fixes it. But ive only ever had to do this once

OK, I Know I did a very stupid thing but I flashed the Nordik Version of the Official ICS Rom for Arc S on My Arc.
Now The problem is when it was flashing, the flash stopped at a certain point. Here is the message

14/002/2012 20:02:24 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted

But then After I Rebooted, It showed the sony logo for a second and then some logo of the mobile with a caution symbol (Yellow Exclamatory Mark). And thats it, after a couple of seconds, it switched off.
I repeated the process and the same thing.
Scared Then I Flashed a Doom Kernel and did a factory reset. While the factory reset, it said that it could not open \data :|
i tried formating data many times but it could not mount it saying different file system.
So I flashed a matching Custom ROM and It does not work, Nether is any app installing nor any file getting saved
Please Help!
And Anyway to solve the /userdata filesystem problem?
If flashtool stopped then try re-downloading the file in case it was corrupt, and try to re-flash. If that's not successful download a stock 2.3.4. ftf and flash that.
FTF Wasnt corrupt :\
Now I Have tried flashing the 2.3.4 Android aswell BB 48
A Very old one which I downloaded around december time to root my Arc.
That doesnt even go past the SE Logo
The Custom ROM atleast booted.
My Guess is that the userdata partition has a different filesystem than the one it can read :\
Think it's to do with flashtool being unable to handle ICS data parameters. Binary has posted some type of workaround till he updates it.
Ok, Will check them out.
Thanks!
In his post?
think so, it's mentioned in the thread.
Nope
It stops while flashing the system.sin file
Anyway to solve the /userdata filesystem problem?
Not yet, apparently. I use cm9 so don't really know, though I think there's a cwm flashable ics stock.
sinkster©
No Use of that
Try connecting in fastboot, and use the erase or format commands, e.g. 'fastboot erase boot' or erase system, in case it's a system partition issue
Then try a kernel and rom.

OK, Apparently the problem was that I was using an old version of the flashtool (0.5.8)
I downloaded the latest 0.6.9.1 and followed the 3 step flasshing process

Hi ,
I have ARC S with unlocked boot loader.
I can install any kernel on the phone via fast boot or by using the flashtool latest version.Right now I have installe dthe lupus kernel V16 and I can boot to the CWM and I hae installed the latest version of Ultimate Xperia HD by jader , I can install and after installation if i reboot the phone is stuck at booting screen only. I have tried various kernels and various roms all are giving the same issue.
I can install the ROM but cannot boot it gets stuck at booting screen. I have formatted the partition's via fastboot and by using the CWM still the issue persists. Please help.
Flash the stock firmware ftf file, then try again, or flash a different kernel.

Hi guys , Please help me as I have tried multiple kernels and roma all of them exhibit same issue,
Booting to CWM using the CWM inbuilt into the kernel takes a long time as well as once a rom is installed via CWM it completes installation and then comes to the boot screen and it sits at the boooting screena and does not get past it.
How are we gonna help if you don't state ROM and kernel and what exactly you did.

Right, I've got an Xperia Arc Lt15i. Its rooted but got a locked bootloader. Its running 2.3.4, a custom rom (think it's Aniking) and I haven't done anything to the kernel. I put clockwork mod on it a few months ago so i could get the custom rom. Now I want to go back into recovery mode, go back to the stock rom, through a nandroid backup, and update to the official ICS, since it only just came out for my phone. I am now unable to boot into recovery, having tried spamming the volume down or back buttons as well as using apps that say they'll reboot into recovery. Nothing works, the phone always boots normally. I'm sure clockworkmod is on there, i never took it off and have tried installing it again with x-parts to make sure. I clicked the Nandroid Backup option in X-parts - it managed to boot into recovery but went straight into doing the backup and then immediately rebooted. I'm not too good with doing it all on the PC so haven't tried or understood any of that.
Also, a question that might be easier: is it possible to just update to the official sony ICS with that PC companion program from a custom gingerbread rom or do I need a stock rom.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

you can just flash ICS from a custom gb rom since it doesnt require an unlocked bootloader, but yeh you can use PCC
since your on stock kernel and have flashed a rom i think it resets it to not having CWM (on stock only i think) just re-install CWM on your arc and it should fix everything
Just install the Recovery again. By default, it is installed in system folder, where the whole ROM is and usually is formatted before flashing.

since your bootloader is still unlock, just use pc companion and update your device from there you'll have ICS on stock

I have the same problem.
I installed CWM recovery on my rooted arc with locked BL using x-Parts and successfully used it to install a ROM. I was going to try flashing some mods but I cannot get back into the recovery even after re-installing it with x-Parts v5 and v7, the phone always boots normally.
Try and boot into recovery using cwm app after reinstall.

Flashed stock kernel
Now i have flashed the ICS stock kernel and i am unable to get my phone to CWM recovery. After the sony logo appears, there's a black screen.
My PC find the phone, but it's in MTP mode, therefore i can't flash anything except the kernel (.ftf).
Do i have to change the internal memory?

You won't be able to until you flash a kernel with CWM or use X-Parts. Click the first link in my sig and read it from start to finish, when you have a better understanding of what you're doing then try and flash something.

Did you flash the correct kernel?
I got the same problem after I flashed wrong kernel on my tablet.
Flash a stock kernel with CWM, then flash the ROM and flash one of the few recommended kernels stated on the developer's ROM thread.

Good morning,
Yesterday, I tried to unlock and root my friend's Xperia Arc (LT15i). Although it was running FW .62, I did manage to unlock the bootloader and root the phone. I installed CWM, emptied the phone (I thought) and installed the Xperia Ultimate HD ROM.
Unfortunately, I think I forgot a detail. I wiped data/factory reset, cache and Dalvik, but after the installation of the ROM completed succesfully, rebooting the phone keeps it hanging at the Sony Ericsson logo. It seems to be hanging right at that moment, because the problem is that when I then press the Vol.Down button, I'm not getting back into CWM.
I tried to use the "Unbrick" option to flash an original .ftf file via Flashtool, but then I get the "Error in processHeader: 1 Incorrect function".
Can anybody give me a clue on how to:
a) get into CWM
or
b) restore the phone so I can try again
Thanks a lot in advance!
PS: is there a way to get in the bootloader and go to CWM from there? It all seems to be so much more difficult then on my own Nexus S

FW .62 is gingerbread ROM and UHD is ICS ROM.I think you forgot to install ICS kernel. Use the suggested lupus kernel for UHD or any other ICS kernel in Fastboot mod or using flash tool then you can boot into ICS.

Flashing ROM doesn't flash kernel. You need to flash kernel if you are flashing different version of ROM like Gb,ICS,JB. Flash kernel, then go to CWM and flash ROM zip.
