I bought my note II off of amazon and got it yesterday. But something's been bothering me all along
1. There were no seals on the box that came, except for a one that was put on my the seller.
2. Most of the unlocked samsung phones I got were made in Korea. This was made in China,
3. I checked my IMEI number and the7th and 8th digits are 05, and I don't even know which country that is.
4. I can see that the seller carefully took off some sticker that was originally on the packaging.
The most bothersome is that the seal was not there. I know from all previous samsung phones that they come with seals of authenticity. And now I can't even get a full return since I opened it. Should I still be suspicious of this phone and return it? (The restocking fee is small)

Inspect the handset thoroughly. Run it through some strenuous benchmarks like AnTuTu, CF-Bench, or Quadrant repeatedly; put it under load to see if it's stable and doesn't crash/reboot. Look for physical/water damage, hairline scratches and cracks. Go over the thing CSI style; and if you find no fault(s) and/or defect(s), I'd say keep it. Then again, if you've just got one of those feelings, you may be better off returning it. You may have gotten a refurbished handset or one that someone else returned, but it doesn't sound like you got a fake. Also, I have heard stories like yours too many times to count. It's always the same.
i.e. "I ordered a Samsung Galaxy such and such from Amazon last week. Today, when it finally came, I opened up the shipping package to discover that the product's box had already been opened and that the Samsung tamper seal had been broken. Did I get a fake and/or used phone, tablet, etc.?"
If it's any consolation, your experience seems to be the norm on Amazon. Also, when you're in the U.S. and order an international handset, sometimes the seller breaks the seal and opens the box to remove the European, or Asian, or whatever power adapter was in there and replace it with a North American power adapter. Did your GT-N7100 come with a North American A.C. power adapter?

now that sounds realllll fishhy.
Write amazon and return it saying that Samsung doesn't recognize the devices serial number and that there was no seal on the box and you'd simply like to return it.
Did you get it from Amazon directly or from a seller dealer online selling through Amazon? I see the merchant program to be exactly like ebay. Suspicious in every way. I usually don't buy expensive electronics from eBay for that reason, you just never know. I leave screen protector and cases and other simple things to ebay and amazon direct for really important things. Or even stores gotta support real stores too sometimes if they're similarly priced.

Where did u check your imei number ?
Samsung.com or samsung.com/uk or samsung.com/cn ?
If your phone from China check Samsung. com/cn
And other thing it can't be fake for $650. Sellers open boxs only to change wall charger. Im sure 60% of people will leave bad feedbacks because charger got another standard.

That doesn't really mean much. It's an import, so Samsung US wouldn't have that info. Do an IMEI lookup online and see what info you get.
This'll tell you what model phone you have. Insert IMEI.

Samsung USA has never officially released n7100/7105 in USA. North American models are different but there are many American users with international version Note 2s. The International version of Note 2s are acquired by indirect route or third party. So they do not have it in the Samsung USA database.

Upload some pictures of it? people on here will be able to tell if its a fake or not, I had the same problem with ebay with the galaxy nexus. would tell me no sim is inserted and after a while i put in the manual apn setting and it finally registered that there was a sim in the phone. but that something completely different from your case. if it is fake hope you get a full refund as mine refused to refund me so i had to open a dispute and still never got a refund as id opened the box. good luck
The open box does not necessarily mean it's a fake. But it may be a returned item. Did all the accessory come in their original packaging? As for the phone itself if it's a knock off of it will most probably not have JB. And as another user suggested a simple benchmark test will tell you if you have a genuine note. And if its a knock off with same performance of the original..... Well its a knock off you want to keep!!! Looool
Post a pic.
It's real. Relax.

Hey guys,
Im gonna buy my note II in less than 12 hours. And i have been wondering how do i ensure that the device is an original set? You see here in Malaysia (thats in Asia) AP sets and SME sets are quite popular as they are cheap. So please guide me . I am gonna buy straight from a samsung distributor. Thanks!
Unless i buy from samsungs official booth, its obviousky a original set right?

Yeah! im worried that it'll be not an original set!
What are AP and SME?
Check the box seals, and make sure they're not broken. There are 3 seals. 2 small generic ones, and one larger one which displays the IMEI number, and under it, the model colour. Then you could open it up on site, and check that the seal IMEI matches the phones one by pressing *#06# on the dialler.
The price of your phone should be a big sign whether it's real or not.
If it's from the re-distributor, then there's some credibility there, still not 100%.
I'm sure it'll be fine.
thanks

Thank you very much!
Now i can be more assured when im gonna buy!
AP -approved products, they are original bt from other countries so the shop dealers provide their own warranty
i dont like that,
SME- im nt very sure some say are fake or made by own country, nt imported
Anyway, if I'm buying from an authorised dealer (the shop name is in their website) it should be ok rite? I can be assured of an original set rite?

How can anyone here possible know that? Claiming they're an authorised dealer doesn't necessarily make it so. Just check the seals and that the IMEI matches.

Yes, I think that this is the best you can do. But if you're going to a Samsung Authorized Dealer, they should sell you only the phones from Samsung, not knockoffs or phones imported from other countries..... I don't know how it works there, but here in Spain, all retailers can only carry Spanish version of their phones. Amazon is the only place i know where they show [imported from ....]. In fact, I got mine imported from Germany because I prefer their updates over the Spanish ones! haha. This is my third German imported phone. Also, warranty here in Europe covers ALL European countries. So if I move from country to country within Europe, it's still covered. But I don't know how it works where you live. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Just check to make sure the box is sealed, and everything looks legit. Don't be afraid to just stand there and open the box in front of them, inspect the phone and everything.

Yes, warranty on repairs is no problem, BUT in case of a replacement you either get one from the dealer where you bought the phone from or ship it to a service center in the country the phone was imported from so Samsung can replace it!. Samsung Spain will not replace it.

Ahh really?
Here they do. Because I bought it in Spain (Amazon Spain), therefore even though it's an imported product, it is 100% valid here and so any service center must repair it, or offer a replacement. Regardless, I'd still send it to Amazon because they're just the best with their policies.

I almost bought a French device through a Ducht webshop so i called Samsung Netherlands and they explained me how repairs and exchanges are beeing handled in the EU. Hi all i think ive bought a duff note 2 my phone has 5gb internal memory, null imei, factory test mode is showing twice on start up,power button when pushed turns off the phone without any options,no imei sticker so all i can find is the serial number using root explorer... i opened up the phone and its missing the flexi cable antenna and has no where for the antenna flex cable to fit on to.. any ideas does anyone know how much a new motherboard would cost and where in the uk i can get one.. also if take this to a samsung repair centre how would i stand
anyone??
Where did you buy it from - give us a link.
And why don't you just return it?
Seriously I think you bought a fake Note (2). There are TONS of MADE IN CHINA copycat phones sold here in HK (most likely online and eBay listings). The exterior looks 95% exact as original Samsungs but when you turn it on, you can tell immediately with the low resolution of the display and the awful looking UI. They should be banning them for being sold....just like those fake LV/Gucci stuff. What a shame.
its deff a genuine note 2 the resolution on the screen is spot on and i can even flash firmwares, roms, root etc i was wondering if i have a prototype note 2 that was used for testing also i got the phone from ebay uk
why don't you just return it?
The person i got it from who was selling it on ebay doesn`t want to know.. this is a pic of the mainboard
pic 2
anymore info about my phone
Call Samsung and offer them their prototype back in exchange for a final release one.
Beamed from Jupiter on my Galaxy Note II
Theres someone else on ebay with the same phone as mine with 5gb internal memory and they are calling it a test model but when i phoned samsung they said they didn`t make test phones for the n7100 confused.com
You need to raise a claim with PayPal/eBay.... But first thing the seller will say is that you have opened the phone and any warranty with them is void
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk (how ironic is that eh)
Did the seller say there was a problem with it?
If not it's not as described and you should raise it with eBay.

it was for sale on ebay uk but like a idiot to save on postage i met up half way and swapped my new s3 for it so nothing ebay can do about it. did send the person who had it a message via ebay but he`s not interested..

i have ordered a new note 2 for the first week of april @ just 20,000/-
i am quite amazed with the price tag, so i feel that i may be cheated for such a rock bottom price.
so how to determine the original note 2?
any marks or any specific apps to install or something?
and is it possible to get a note 2 at such a low price?
have anyone got a note2 like this before?
or am i the only one!!!!

When buying a new one.....have a look here too:
http://10division.com/must-read-sam...-n7100-clone-vs-original-ultimate-comparison/
since your box will probably be sealed when you receive (can you return it when opened??) look at the imei check part, you can even scan the imei number which is on the sealed box with the app from the PlayStore
dunno if i'm using the correct valuta (INR?) but for where i live (Netherlands, Europe, Euro) i would highly doubt this device is the real thing, i'm picking up my new note 2 tomorrow for €449,= which is equal to about INR 31.630. I think i made a good deal with a thrust worthy dealer, but still gonna check the imei.
But don't shoot me.....prices can vary alot between continents.
Either its used or its not Note 2
You sure you read Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and not just Galaxy Note 2 ?
Check this out :-
http://www.kaunsa.com/Detail/5187/5-5-inch-Android-4-0-5-Dual-Sim-3G-Galaxy-NOTE-II-32GB.html
These are fake Chinese products keep the name similar to fool the customers.
I'm sure you could have seen that coming, but seriously, make sure your box seal is intact and ofcourse the phone will have a
temporary screen cover(with specs of the phone written all over it) and laminated back.
And make sure you have the Indian warranty card signed in or atleast the Bill is intact.

thanks a lot bro
Hey,
I just purchased an n5100 from Amazon. This is my first time buying an international device and not a US device, so I have a few questions. It looks like I got a model meant to be sold in a Spanish-speaking country, since the box and the writing on the back of the tablet are in Spanish.
1. The box had no seal to break through. I know on the Wifi models sold here and in the unboxing videos I've seen online, there are stickers to cut when you are opening the box. Should I be worried that there is no seal, or are there countries where this is sold unsealed?
2. No headphones are included. In the unboxing videos for the 3g model, I've seen they come with headphones. Do they all come with headphones?
3. Will I encounter any unexpected issues with having an international model?
4. How does Samsung handle warranty issues on international models?
Thanks in advance!
I'll attempt to answer some of my own questions since I decided to power the thing on
I found a few more unboxing videos and saw that not all the 3G versions do include the headphones. So I guess that's not an issue. One thing that's nice about the version I received is that it came with a US-compatible power adapter.
So far, no unexpected issues with having an international model. When powering it on, it defaults to English, and you can select your language from that first screen. When starting the Google Play store, it asked me what country. I selected US, and I was able to begin downloading my apps. That was one of my worries.
So far, this looks pretty nice. I was trying out the Wifi model, and decided based on that experience that I wanted to have the 3G option. I guess the next step is to stick my microsim in and see how that works
Congratulations! My one had a seal, but no headphones. I also got extras with my deal - a free official pouch stand, 16GB microSD, and 2 months free Internet with a local service provider.
No idea how warranty issues are handled, sorry.
There is a seal
There are no included headphones.
Why would you have any more problems than a Wifi version?
Warranty depends on the policy of Samsung where the device is originally for. My guess is you have no warranty

I've had my I ter national note 8 for about 3 weeks now. It came unsealed so that the retailer will know which converter to send with it. U have no warranty, and can't even register it on Samsung website. That said, u might want to try wentworthave (dot) com or protectyourbubble (dot) com... I've used pyb before for a claim and they're pretty good wentworthave doesn't have deductibles.. I'm thinking of switching.
I received my note yesterday also through a retailer on Amazon. Mine was sealed and all in english. It defaulted to British english and I was able to register it on the Samsung UK website. In doing so, I received the dropbox promotion of 48 GB for 2 years for free! The retailer included an adapter for charging in the main shipping box so they did not have to open the tablet's box. I contact Samsung US and they confirmed there is no warranty for it here. I have it covered on Square Trade. I just hope not to have to use it.
Just checked over my device and some you tube video posts.. a few things.
I got the P605 from ATGSM.com.
The box was sealed with sticker and all.
Inside the box there were no replacement stylus tips (as seen in all the you tube reviews)
Also the box does not look like any of the boxes i see in the reviews. I take it that the version they shipped me is originally the Hong Kong.
There were no specs on the box.
Did I get a fake...a clone....... What do I do now. I can post a pic of the box if you need to see it.
I need some serious help. I paid over $700 for this device. I just want to make sure its the real deal. Especially seeing how there are so many fakes out there. Please help.

I bought a P605 via Negri Electronics a couple of weeks ago, and it was in an identical box to the one in your picture. My box also didn't have any spare stylus tips. Also had a Hongkong style adapter, which Negri provided a US adapter in the outer package.
I suppose the HK version just doesn't come with spare tips?
It seems real to me.

You got no idea of the Negri problems with the Note 3 obviously.
I feel sorry for anybody buying stuff from them.
The stories are hard to believe yet true.
What problems.

I bought my N-8000 and SM-P601 from Negri and had no issues. The only problems I heard regarding the N3 and Negri was that some carrier devices they sold, mostly T-Mobile, that had their IMEI's reported stolen after people received them and started using them. Since Negri doesn't build devices and most of what they sell is grey market and imported from other countries they are kind of at the mercy of their suppliers. As far as I know they stood behind the devices with bad IMEI's and replaced or refunded them. If you're in the U.S. and buying a SM-P601/5, no matter who you're buying it from, you're taking a chance as to its origins, condition, and country of sale (which can't be the U.S. because neither is sold here). And know that none of them have a Samsung warranty because they're grey market. Negri, Expansys, and NewEgg are the biggest sellers of Samsung grey market devices in the U.S. and I've purchased from all three. My experiences have been fine but I've heard complaints (some horror stories) on all three. With grey market goods there's no such thing as Best Buy. And Amazon doesn't count; all their unlocked devices are sold via marketplace sellers.

They were selling used as new
They were selling stolen as new
They were selling phones with the seals broken that were still locked as unlocked and new
They were selling Phones that were rooted as new
They were selling Phones that were already Knox tripped as new
This is just a small list of the things they pulled
If you read the TMO Note 3 thread thread, I don't know how you would do business with them, absolutely despicable.

I'd read the thread before I bought my P-601 from them. All their Samsung HSPA devices come from the Samsung dealer in Trinidad. They had the P601 before anyone else reselling them in the U.S. did and it arrived in its shrink wrap and was perfect. The shrink wrapped Trinidadian N-8000 I got last year arrived with a bad display. Negri paid return shipping and overnighted me a new one (which was perfect). I asked where their LTE P-605's came from and they said Asia. I personally am not interested in any Asian-sourced imports because the s/w and Hub access are funky when used in the U.S. Software wise, Trinidad and Latin America are the most compatible. That's why I got a P-601. When people ask me where to buy Samsung grey market devices I mention the three company's above. I share my experiences (and the horror stories, lack of warranty, and other risks) and tell them to avoid PayPal (Amazon Payments is an option with Negri) and use a "customer friendly" credit card like Amex. I'm sorry some people got burned over the N3 but it doesn't change my positive experiences.
Same problem but got the solution.
