[Q] Is upgrading RADIO a must? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Is it a must to be on the latest RADIO? Does it have any benefits?

I wouldn't change your radio unless your current one has problems. It doesn't change much and can be risky (though I don't know of anyone bricking with a radio as of yet).

Unless you are on the inspire, the new one seems to help with battery life..... Maybe. But if you aren't having issues, no need to do so.

It's a matter of opinion, some members will flash a radio some wont. Sometimes the benefits are small so it's all up to you if you want to try them out.

I have rooted DHD and I'm running jellytime R29. How can upgrade my radio?

Which ROM you have installed does not affect how you flash a radio. If you are S-OFF with AAHK (not HTCDEV) you flash them all the same way. Instructions are in the guide in the Ace Think Tank thread post #7, linked in my signature.

Thank you guys, you've been really helpful ^^

haha didn't check the date! Thanks for the heads up! I'm having a bit of difficulty finding a radio that gives good battery life. What radio would you recommend..?
I've found that the newest official Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 (from the link in your signature) gives me the best battery life and I've tried almost all radios.

Nice1 thanks. I used it a few weeks ago and then changed for some reason, prob just to see what else was out there. I recall it being excellent.
So, is the radio's performance dependant on the ROM in way way? Also, what RIL are you using?
Not really no and almost all roms are based on the official gingerbread update and the radio came with it so the roms should be optimized for it anyway. RILs should always match the radio you're using, but the newest custom roms should already include the matching RILs for the radio I suggested.

Yeah, but it still seems to work better than the newest Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 release.

THX I NEED it
the newest radio is the best mate...
Just posted this update in the Recommended ROM/RADIO/RIL/KERNEL Combinations thread..
Flashed the Telus radio: 12.35d.60.140fP_26.06.03.24_M2 and it's using 3-4mA per minute in stand-by. It's pretty much the best I've tested so far. I'm going to stick with it: http://www.multiupload.com/4CQ8919NO6
what ril are you using with that radio? This one 12.35d.60.140fP_26.06.03.24_M2
the 1003g one? I;ve tried flashing that ril and cannot get it to work?

The RIL's in my signature.
Remember, you have to mount /system in cwm before you flash it. Just look in one of the menus within cwm and you'll see mount /system. Select it and then flash the RIL as your would flash a rom or anything else, from your SD card.

MIUI Radio

Do I have to flash a different Radio for MIUI?
What will a different Radio change?
I installed the newest (german) Version without any Radio on my Desire and it works fine. Only thing I hate is a little delay after phone call is established.
Thanks for your help!
You only need top change radio of you have problems with your hardware. The radio updates the hardware's firmware. On miui xj rom here on xda doesn't have this delay issue.
TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
So you would't update the radio?
Are there only the original radios from HTC or are there also custom radios?
[Q] captivate kb3 Radio
I flashed the KB3 radio today but I didn't receive an signal. I don't find any solution neither on the MIUI Mintberry Tread nor in the Modem section.
Maybe I'm a bit blind ;-)
Is there any possibility to compare the KB3 Radio with the MIUI Mintberry Rom?
Actually I'm complete new with MIUI so sorry if it's a stupid question.
I read that all CM7 radios are compatible with the MIUI Roms.
Now my Question is:
Is an captivate Radio an CM7 Radio?
Has anybody an solution for my problem?
Thanks in advance!
General rule with radios, if it works just leave it. If you have a bad radio flash it will brick your phone permanently.

Nonetheless, thanks for your answer
I'll post it in the right forum right now!

[RADIO] 2.12.04.119.17 (new radio from a test RUU)

RADIO 2.12.04.119.17
flash-able zip for recovery
you know what to do
I´ve never (and when i´m saying never i relly mean never) used my Radio on the smartphone, but i test it for you ! Your effort makes me smile... (Radio, Camera...)
Keep up the good work ! Who have ever thought this will become that important on a phone !
Im guessing this is european based?
will give it a go, maybe it's better for US than the China based radios lol
Keep in mind that htc did some changes to radio interface f.g. in ramdisk. So basically I would be very careful with flashing only QUO_6260.fls.clean. Also radio upgrade process is probably related to recovery OTA mode.

On Tegra devices the radio can be flashed or, more accurately, installed without s-off since it lives on the system partition.
--Matt
Flashing, hope it's an improvement ^.^
I haven't Tried this för long But already it seems to decrease the constant flipping between 3g and hdspa while I'm on my way to work. So it's definetly an improvement as i have had no connection issues för the First time since getting the phone!
I would recommend anyone to try it!

Hang on so all this time we were able to install updates on radio ? and our current flashes that include radio have infact been taking ?. why is it on the system partition, where is it normally on the kernel ??.
I think there are two parts in radio
Radio Firmware - somewhere in flash, protected by security
Radio Interface Layer (RIL) - this is what this thread is about...

[Q] Regarding Cm10 Radio use.

Hey everyone,
I have noticed a few people using Radio: 1.09.01.0312 but I noticed on the PG32IMG post that this is from a Gingerbread based radio?
Would it be better to go for one from the ICS dump or stick with the Gingerbread one?
There is also a chance that I am totally lost with all of this lol
Thank you for the help!

I have been running the .320 radio for several weeks now and have not had any issues with it...I have also tried it with CM10 and all seemed to work. I can't say for sure that it is better than the .312 radio, but I don't think it will hurt to try it.

GPS broken after trying Radio Update

A while ago I rooted my DesireHD and installed a custom rom.
After that my GPS didn't work anymore..
I tried a new custom Rom and tried updating 'Radio' with another Rom / Update.
Now, all my apps crash that use GPS, which is kind of a problem, since I use Google Maps & Navigator a lot..
Can anyone please tell me what a good DHD Rom / Radio is these days I should use, and how I can install these properly?
Thanks!

I know how to search this forum, thanks anyway... Problem is, there are threads with 20+ radio updates.. How would I know which one is best, and what is the proper order to install, the radio first, or android first..

Try either this
12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M
or
12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
Also try flashing a stock rom
