[Q] Messaging app won't restart when RAM is available - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello xda community!
Recently i modded a little bit my Xperia arc (LT15i). Reflashed stock .587 ROM, rooted, unlocked bootlader, changed kernel(ArcKnight_4), installed Walkman Player V7.5, Overclocked to 1.6Ghz(arcknight_II/noop). Everything is running perfectly, i'm very satisfied(but still i think that ICS needs linux 3 to run properly).
But except those cool things i observe(and experience) there is a minor bug which ruins down my customer experience. It is strange since i've rooted that when i use large amount of memory(music, pictures, videos, browser, etc) that the messaging app won't restart. It makes me nervous when i accidentally open the Messages and when i see that there was an important message sent several hours ago. For now my only reason is to open and minimize the Message app before i lock the phone(it is really irritating).
Some friends of mine told me that only Cyanogen has the option to keep the message app in memory, but after i tried several ROMs, i really have no intention to reflash and restore my data again.
If there is a chance of achieving this goal without reflashing the ROM i would be very happy. Thanks in advance

Maybe you have to much messages stored in your message apps
Try to delete some of them

I have around 800 messages. I'll clean them and i hope that this will work. Thanks!
EDIT:
Definitely doesn't work. As every OS it must have an option for changing app priorities. How I can do that?

[Q] Arc lag and slowing down

Hi everyone,
I have been using the Xperia Arc since May this year. A month or less into its usage I noticed it slowing down considerably. I am not bothered much with the apps which might take their own sweet time to open even in the faster phones. However the main reason for concern are the "Message Inbox" and the "Contacts". They take ages to open and more often than not throw up the "force close" noticfication.
This has caused much heartburn and embarrassment to me.
The last time I had this problem an app from the market called "apps2SD" helped me speed up the phone drastically by freeing up the internal memory. As of now, every app that can be moved to the SD card, has been moved. I have 160MB RAM free, 142MB of internal memory free and 2.2GB in SD. It asks for clearign the cache which I do every now and then.
I also have a lot of messages in my Message inbox. Do they have any part to play in slowing down the phone, when opening the "Msg Inbox"?
The processes running are:
Settings
Mail (yahoo)
Messenger (Yahoo)
Xperia arc flash light
Clock
Data monitor
Gauge battery widget
Crash monitor
sonyerric.usb??
google serv
devicemonitor
music
S E sync
Digi clock
setup guide
mtp app
digi clock
secureclockservice
status switch
market
maps
whatsapp
default input
I have only installed basic apps and games. I am not versed with the advanced applications and I don't know what the "launcher" apps are. Kindly help me.
Thanks in advance.

Depending on how many messages and contacts you have (hundreds?thousands?) opening up a huge database can surely slow down your device.
On which firmware are you? did you root your device and/or unlock your bootloader?
The contacts are just what an average person would have. It might be a hundred or barely two hundred at most.
The messages however are many. A vague guess would be around five hundred. It might even be thousand but not much more than that.
My old Nokia N85 had significantly more contacts and messages. Around 250+ contacts and 2000+ messages, but never threw up such a problem or a delay in accessing them. I am emphasising on them, but even the other apps and regular scrolling has shown significant slowing down.
Firmware is 2.3.3 (if it means Android version) Build number: 3.0.1.A.0.145
It hasn't been rooter or has had the boot loader unlocked.
Try to clear your homescreen widget.
See if anything changes in speed.
I believe that running apps consume alot of ram.
Try using titanium and convert system app to user app, just make sure you've back up before doing so.
And clear anything related to ram, useless apps.

@nujhum
i think that's the point, Sarath_'s device is not rooted that's why Titanium Backup can't be used.
@ Sarath_
Cleaning homescreen widgets and/or applications (settings>applications>manage applications) can help a bit for sure.
Be carefull while cleaning anything other then 'cache' or you might loose some settings also.
Maybe you should consider cleaning out a few messages too
@Nirak
Sorry my bad.
Didnt noticed that.
Since he asking for help, well i suggest @Sarath_ to root his arc, and get started to rid of useless apps with titanium. Dont you agree with me @Nirak?
I guess thats the best solution i can think of now with my locked bootloader.
Sent from my LT15i using Tapatalk
sounds like you have an awful lot of messages on the phone, id start by clearing them down.. why keep so many? maybe you can get an app to back them up if you need to?
@nujhum
absolutely agree! rooting and then a good clean up would be the best option to gain space and speed.
I have a locked bootloader to, cuz i'm an android noob and just a little scared to unlock and loose official SEUS to repair when i mess up
Ever find a solution? I have the exact same problem and I'm on Rogers with a locked bootloader...
How.many free ram you have.

Noob wants to custom rom on locked bootloader!

Dear Reader,
I’m basically a noob when it comes to rooting and custom rom-ing and bootloader-ing… and stuff. Unfortunately, I am forced to go down this road because my xperia lt26i, after having set it up the way I like, allows me less than 100mb ram to play around with! This means my phone is usually quite laggy and unresponsive.
Ideally, I’d like suggestions on how to unlock the bootloader. However, I have approached every avenue in that direction and have reached dead ends. This phone, it appears, is not able to have its bootloader unlocked. I contacted both my network provider (who helpfully offered to unlock and root my phone) as well as Sony, who said they couldn’t help. I don’t know whether some OTA update will allow it to happen at a later date. But who knows…
Going back to my RAM related problems, I’m looking for custom ROMs which are a) light on RAM, b) free of third party bloatware and c)offers as close to a ‘nexus’ experience as possible. Currently I’m using Nova Launcher to achieve that. Actually, a custom ROM with Nova Launcher would be perfect.
Also, any other tweaks that can help speed up the phone or save/increase(ha!) RAM would be helpful.
Basically, I’ll take what I can get

Everything you need to know is ine the Sticky Guide at the top of the forum:

My advise, read, read and then read again before doing anything... Also use the forum search tools you will find all of your answers.
Good luck, I am currently running CM10 with Nova launcher and it works well, I also left stock roms because of lags and memory and I am very happy now.

Please give my ROM a try. I have named it as "Xperia Nexus" because the ROM aims at providing the user with the ultimate Nexus experience.

Your v4 sounds really interesting. May I know what the .587 means/entails?
Also, in terms of backing up, I need to get cwm (which will no doubt test me lol) and do a nandroid backup before flashing the ROM. From the limited reading that I've done, it means that it will create an image of the phone as it is now. Then, I will need to backup the sd card seperately.
Can I get confirmation that the nandroid backup will err back up my settings, widgets and wallpaper settings too? (I use minimalist text and paperland you see.)
Also, after I flash your ROM, will I be able to use Nova prime with my existing settings?

Nandroid will restore your mobile exactly how it was when you did it, including wallpapers and other settings.
Nova has an option for backing up setting and layout too, use it.

.587? You are checking the wrong rom. .587 is only for Xperia 2011 MDPI. This is the link for Xperia S Rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2172872
I was just attempting to flash your ROM in and have got almost halfway there. Ie I've just sorted out getting. 55 on my phone. I checked back at your ROM again today and there seems to be some problem, can you advise me as soon as you identify and resolve the issue as I can't risk my phone going out of commission!

No no the rom has nothing to do with the brick! It is a kernel problem. Don't worry at all.

Just done it, went smoothly, though unfortunately only freed up about 50mb ram. Ah well, at least it looks more nexus-y . Just a couple of questions, I want to use a mhl adaptor to connect the phone to my TV, is there a way to do that? And how do I edit the lock screen?

Galaxy nexus gone slow

Hi. My phone (on Stock unrooted 4.1.2, didn't upgrade to 4.2.2 for no reason) has recently become very, very slow. I guess the reason for that is that I recently copied an MKV movie to it. Ever since I did that, it has been dead slow. Even though I have deleted it now, the sluggishness still persists. There's nothing else that I did (ever since this problem started), and please note, my phone was blazing fast before this, so I don't expect suggestions to flash a new ROM or kernel (because I'm a noob when it comes to flashing ROMs and stuff, and I will have so many more problems doing so). I think my phone can go back to the state on stock ROM and kernel.
Another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988233) mentions the same problem, I've found out that I have the exact same problem. My phone wasn't sluggish before I copied the movie. But now that I have removed it, the phone is stil slow and sluggish*
* what does it mean when i say "slow and sluggish":
- pressing the lock button doesn't turn the screen on, i have to do it a couple of times
- apps take longer to load
- widgets don't load (most of them)
- everything that you can imagine (swiping, sliding, etc) is slow.
Help, please. Thanks in advance.
Clear the cache of the video player application that you tried to play the video with. That may help. Go into settings>apps>downloaded>your video app>clear cache.
If it's the Gallery, go into all applications instead of downloaded.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
It may be caused by installing too many RAM-hogging apps, if you're rooted you can try using Greenify from the play store and see if that helps.

I didn't copy the movie for playing, I copied it to transfer it somewhere else. And I've cleared cache of the video player MX Player just to be sure, and uninstalled it. Still no use.
One more thing. Apps are not responding, even stock apps. Once I open an app, it takes forever to load, and the message pops up: "<app> is not responding, would you like to stop it?" with the options "wait, stop, report".
All this has started ever since I copied that movie to my phone. Before that, it was blazing fast, no RAM hogging apps or anything.
How about you try to save all your pics/files you have on your phone, and do a factory reset? I know that's the highest you will go, but still worth a shot!

Okay, I found "Helium" to do the backup job just right. Now, how to restore?
P.S. Just updated to 4.2.2 to find utter disappointment (and more lag).

Old post I know, but the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have a SD card or any other kind of removable memory card. No Nexus device does.

This a known issue. The solution is to root the phone (NRT) and run LagFix (fstream). Android 4.3 has fstream already built in.

Goodness ROM - small issue

Not quite sure if this belongs in the category, but here goes.
Couple minutes ago, I installed the Goodness rom on my AT&T S3 i747. Works perfectly, is absolutely gorgeous. Here's the problem.
Upon first launch of Play store (to restore data from games, texts, etc) everything ran slightly slow. Then, closing the Playstore, I notice that the ugly 4.x play store logo was there, instead of the black/blue beauty that is Goodness rom. With Play store's automatic updating of apps, a lot of them have changed. I want to know how to change them back.
Do I simply reflash the rom without deleting data? Or wipe everything again and prevent google from updating?
Further problems from further exploration:
Alarm time will not show up on alarm widget.
Trying to install 3rd party applications - impossible because the 'unknown sources' option will not stay checked.
Camera no longer works.

It's actually an older rom, from what I can tell. No user updates about it in a while. Here's the link.

Why would you want to run a rom that is so old and not updated?

Nexus 5x encryption

Hi.
Have noticed that this phone is extremely slow while installing or updating apps from the play store. It is lagging like hell just switching home screens, anyone else have noticed this? Can this have with the encrypted system?
And if i install a custom rom to disable encryption, will it be a noticeable performance change of the phone?
Thanks

Are you talking about downloading one or two apps?Or more of a got the phone and restored all your apps from the playstore? Usually downloading an app or two has had no real lag for my phone. As far as decryption and custom roms go alot of the time the custom roms with the right gapps pack (i use banks) will give you a little bit more ram to use and have other system optimiziations that will make it run a little bit smoother than stock. But that will depend on the rom and kernel (over//underclock)combo you use.

Noticed it espessially when updating Messenger and Facebook today, and also Es file explorer. So only 3 apps. I am familliar that restoring the phone makes it slow, but this was only 3 apps as written :\
Ok, if it is only a little it may not be worth it then? Never had a nexus before, but with samsung a custom kernel/rom helped a lot.
