Hi guys,
sorry if they has been answered elsewhere, ive been searching the web for days. I got a brand new HTC desire a couple of weeks ago and preceded to drop it, shattered the digitizer and damaged the LCD screen. I decided to do the repair myself and changed the parts no problem. The problem is the replacement screen wont work (it was brand new, genuine). My phone has an SLCD (checked part number against the replacements) and the replacement was an AMOLED.
Should the screen work no problem in my handset or do i need to get a hold of a SLCD? Also, im new to the rooting scene, but would this help 'fix' my problem?
Any help would be appreciated. I need to get my 2 weeks old phone working again haha.....i should have just sent it to HTC lol.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this but here goes.
I have just found two of the dreaded white spots on my EVO screen. I'm trying to decide between trying to take it back to Sprint and getting it completely replaced or just getting in touch with HTC and having the screen swapped out.
I have a Novatek 002 Model now fully rooted the original way. What are the Pros and Cons of the 004 revisions. New screen type, possibly the new hboot that I need to look into more.
Any ideas guys

I would take it to sprint and have them replace the screen. They can do it under warranty. It is a known problem so they should not give you any trouble at all.
My g2 has been experiencing screen issues lately. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem, but I'm going to ask around to make sure. It is rooted with Virtuous .0.7.4 running on it.
It just happened overnight where there would be a line of dead pixels at the bottom of the screen and a black bar on the right side. Everything seems to be blurry and choppy, any help? Thanks.
You could try a different ROM like CM and see if it does anything. Not going to do any harm... but I think realistically it's very unlikely to fix anything either.
Very much sounds like a hardware problem. Since the screen isn't physically broken or damaged (right?) this should be a warranty replacement.
Well, I kinda bought this brand new from someone, does this still qualify for a warranty? Thanks.
That's a sticky subject. Is it a G2 or DZ?
If a DZ I would think HTC will honor the warranty, why not?
If it's a G2, HTC might tell you to pound sand as it's a carrier phone.
As far as what TMO will do for you, there's a bunch of variables there... are you a customer? Was the phone bought at full retail or at subsidy? etc...
I'm honestly not sure though.
If you have to deal with TMO, I think your best bet is to go through the person you bought it from, if at all possible.
Please let us know what happens as this is a very interesting question.
It is a G2. Looks like I'll be ebaying this and finding a new one if nothing pops up.

I see replacement screens on the bay for around $70. Sure is cheaper than a new G2. Of course you'd need to be able to put it in yourself. There's a pretty good tear-down guide.
Im having the same issue my screen is becoming unresposive either it wont work or i have to double or triple click on things i used a stock rom and custom and it still has the issue and i got this phone from a friend i called Tmobile about the issue and they r sending a replacement phone with no problem but im thinking is this the only issue with this phone? And will the next one do the same thing

What information did you have to give them? Was his warranty exchange technically under your friend's plan or did they accept you were the new owner and still give you warranty service?
to tell if its G2 check the batt cover and see if it says G2 in big letter if its DZ it says "with htc sense" on the back of the phone
I told them the screen was unresponsive and they go through that whole pull the batt, factory restore blah blah crap of course we all know its not going to work but their so called training and computer tell them it might just work and it will restore my phones screen to full funtion and very useable lol yeah sure it will ...anyways nothing worked as expected so yes they excepted me as the new owner thinking it was mine all along anyways and r now sending me a new one under warranty

Where did you get the phone? Did your phone have root?
Found a cheaper replacement screen from a non -ebay vendor. They also have capacitive touch digitizers too.

Hey guys, I'm super happy right now. Just called T-Mobile, and they are going to ship me a replacement for free. I get to keep the phone until it arrives via UPS, then I'll ship the defective phone back. Super happy, loving T-Mobile right now! Thanks for all the help
Edit: Does anyone know how to restore the phone back? Does flashing the stock rom over take out root? Thanks again.
U have to turn S on flash back to stock rom then turn S back on

If its a G2 and you're a current tmobile customer in good standing. Just give em a call and they will give you a free replacement even if you bought the phone from someone else. That's what happened to me and my G2 I traded mine for a nexus one. And within a week my touchscreen was unresponsive. I first called htc and they told me to call tmobile which I did and got my phone replaced for free. Hope this helps.

Yeah, if you actually read my other posts, T-Mobile gave me a replacement also. I have to unroot and restore everything back to normal before I ship it first though. Thanks for your response.

See if you can get into the bootloader. To do this, pull out your battery and then hold Power+VolDown until a white screen shows up, thats the bootloader. If you have access to that, you can flash images through your computer to your phone
