Hey guys,
picked up my desire a few weeks back, only just started using it the other day (was researching best way to transfer PIM data from HD2).
anyway, i was playing around with some of the built in apps and junk last night...in a room with the light off, and noticed that when the screen was black (on/illuminated, but not colour - the desk clock screen).. there is a reasonable strong green tint down the right hand side of the display. i have done a little research and have read some people have complains of green/blue/pink hues to their entire display.. but my green stain is only on part of the screen.
anyone else have this problem?
i went back to the store i got it from, they said that HTCs exchange policy requires me to send my device back, they will look at it and either repair or replace. seeing as the reason i bought the desire is to desperately escape WINMO, i figure the slight bug of a green stain is less of an inconvenience than using my HD2 for a few more weeks.
cheers.
Could be down to having a SLCD screen as opposed to an AMOLED one
The blue tint to the amoled screen is there on purpose, blue led's die alot quicker than other ones, samsung make there screen to over display blue, as your device gets older this blue will slowly die to a yellowy colour! Maybe the green tint is related?

I'm assuming so if it was only purchased a few weeks ago, could be wrong
yeah guys... i got the SLCD version.
i dont think its a natural screen 'quirk'.. as it only appears on a small portion of the screen.
cheers for the replies though ey.
I have the same problem on both my desires. One of them has a finish tint in the middle of the screen and this one has like a brighter spot on the top right of the screen. I have the SLCD screens. I bought the phones in Wisconsin.
Off topic
I feel so alone on this forum because everyone talks about the GSM version. Is there any news about froyo update for this phone on US Cellular? I love the phone but getting tired of waiting all the time. I just heard there's 3.0 coming out on the 11th of November. But not for Desire. I'm sure it will be there when my contract is over. Lol.

Solution to you brick
Past details of HTC bravo
Android 2.3
Hboot 1.02.001
I tried to unlock the bootloader by
1- HTC dev method
I started by the same procedure given on the
website. But the procedure didn't work for me,
when I commanded adb devices it never
showed my phone then when I commanded '
get oem identifier token ' I got another error. I
got frustrated
2- Then I went on to the mini_adb method by
using shell, Su commands
It neither worked
3- After that I came across the downgrade and
boot method, it resulted into a brick
But no worries my pals !!
Unbricked successfully !!
basically it was an Indian phone so some strong
securities
first installed this to my phone which had 2.3
android and hboot 1.02.001
RUU_Bravo_hTC_Asia_India_1.21.720.4_Radio_32.36.00 .28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127705_signed.exe
then my phone got bricked due to downgrade.
the led screen blackout happened and a vibrate
was at the startup and can navigate volume
buttons only*
then i got worried after that i installed this thing
to unbrick back
RUU_Bravo_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.19.707.7_Radio_32.36.00.2
8U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126179_signed.exe
then to no help after that this one
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.
05.00.11_release_122704.exe
and wahhoo!! unbicked my phone to 2.2
android, dont worry the phone will popup an
update notifier after you start your phone
I've been hunting around and haven't found any good information on this so I thought I'd ask.
I have an HTC Droid Incredible with an SLCD in it and the screen has cracked. Unfortunately, the SLCD seems to no longer be available in the market (I've looked everywhere). All I can find are the Samsung AMOLED versions.
So here's my question: Is there any way to root the Incredible (originally designed for the SLCD) and get it to work with the AMOLED version of the LCD?
I'm thinking no but I thought if the connectors are identical, then maybe new software would allow me to run a different LCD in the phone.
Thanks.
I've a set with broken screen too.
How can I tell if it's SLCD or AMOLED?
I'm also looking for a replacement screen.
The label on the back of the screen has this numbers:
P/N: 60H00291-00P
If you can see the screen well enough to navigate to settings>about phone, if the hardware version is 002 its amoled, 003 is slcd.

Sorry to be a pain about this but I'm not asking how to tell the difference between the parts. There's tons of posts about that (from looking at the hardware version, to the part numbers on the back, to walking into a dark room and turning the phone on).
The question here is: Can you root a DInc that shipped with a Sony LCD and get it to work with a new Samsung LCD (AMOLED version)?
Thanks.
I don't think anyone has ever tried it. I'm not an expert, and i have never attempted to do what you are doing, but it seems like it could work. Actually i'm thinking you wouldn't even have to root the phone, can't you just grab the most recent RUU file and restore the phone from that? The most recent would have to include both AMOLED and SLCD drivers in it? Is a root required to restore from a RUU file? I have never done it haha. Also you would have to check if the connectors are the same, i think chances are good that they are the same though. Anyway, good luck and keep us updated as to whether it worked or not.
any update?
Hey JetCity,
Same issue as you, can't find the S-LCD anywhere. Did you have any luck swapping out for the AMOLED?
Thanks.
Martin
I cna't imagine it would be an issue, set your phone to the most recent stock RUU and then install the new AMOLED screen. id be very surprised if it didnt work.

I wouldn't rely on that. It used to say 002, then I flashed GB and it said 003. Really weird. I'm sure mine is AMOLED.
Did anyone ever get this to work?
I have an Incredible with a cracked SLCD, but I have a spare/working AMOLED from a parts Dinc. Can someone point me to a RUU to download that might have both drivers so I can possible use my spare LCD?
step aside from for the hardware geek
No driver in the world is going to help you make an AMOLED work with an SLCD. You're problem is hardware on the board. The drive electronics for the SLCD and AMOLED are different. One very notable difference in the electronics would be no provision to drive a back light on an AMOLED.
As for finding SLCD and AMOLED screens, I've looked and they're out there. I haven't looked into this, but the hardware inside the Nexus One is nearly identical to the dInc and that screen may work in it.
just to clarify, is it the screen GLASS thats broken or the LCD part that's damaged? (or both?) I've replaced the glass part on my incredible before, the display screen is a separate part, unless they incorporated the 2 together for the slcd version, but my old amoled was separate from the glass, you can buy glass kits on ebay for fairly cheap.
Hello,
I had to replace my glass screen since it cracked and I was able to do that, but in the process, I also screwed up my SLCD. I have the Verizon version of the phone with an SLCD and it seems I need the Sony version. Can someone confirm which one I would need to order in order to replace my SLCD? I don't want to end up ordering the wrong one. Most on eBay seem to be for the TMobile version.
Thanks

I wish I knew. I ordered an SLCD from HTC Repair Parts cause my phone is hardware version 3 but the SLCD Doesn't work cause it doesn't have the right ribbon cable connection. They can't seem to track down what I need and they tell me that their screen works for everyone else.
I compared the connection in my AMOLED phone to the SLCD and they had the same connection so just for Grins, I pulled the AMOLED out of my phone and put it in the hardware version 3 phone and all it did was show a bunch of random colors but mostly green. I'm lost on this one. I must have a freak.
I believe there's 2 versions of the SLCD screen: Sony and Samsung. You just need to contact the seller and ask which version they have, if they don't specify.

My HTC one M7 is acting up very strangely. It is an ebay phone and it does work normally and shows no sign of abuse or damage. The screen however has some sort of random glitching. Horizontal lines appear at the top of the screen near the app drawer and then ghosting vertical lines appear as well especially with icons. The screen will also be a lighter color than normal. This happens about 80% of the time the screen is turned on. The other 20% it looks fine. It happens on boot screen and on Fastboot screen as well.
From what I can tell it had some custom firmware on it as the Fastboot screen showed tampered but it was S-On. Recovery would not load at all, just was blank then reboot. Showed 4.4.3 until I did a factory reset and then it showed 4.2.2. I tried using Rumrunner, and Firewater. I had WeakSauce working but could never get S-Off. I installed HTC Sync and did a repair which brought me up to 4.4.3 Sense 6 and no way to S-Off other than sunshine.
I don't want to shell out the money for Sunshine though if the screen is going to go bad. What do you guys think? I called HTC and it is 3 months out of warranty. Maybe I should try to get it to do a purple tint so I can send it in under that.

I am not sure if it is related to this issue.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=70846
I was not able to determine what rom setup was on the phone that I couldn't S-Off. It was debloated and tamper flag was on. Tamper flag is off now but screen still is buggy.
Sounds like a hardware issue. Taking the ota to 4.4.3 and sense 6 should eliminate a software issue from being the culprit. Boot into fastboot, select recovery, and do a factory reset ....if that doesnt help, then my money is on a hardware issue.

He sees the lines even in fast boot which makes me think it is definitely a hardware issue. I doubt factory resetting is going to do any good.

Yea, I agree. But I hate to be the guy with nothing but bad news!
Hey guys thanks for the input. I went ahead and spent the money for Sunshine and I am now on CM11. Still have the same issue. I am thinking it is hardware as well especially since it shows in Fastboot and booting animations. I am thinking it is a memory issue though since it is random as to when it will be clear vs lines. I saw a post about LCD screens on laptops that showed common issues and the one that resembled my problem was a video ram issue. Not sure if there are tweaks I can do in CM11 to control that.
It still wasn't a bad deal since I only paid $100 for it and it has a clean esn.
Thanks guys, if I figure out a work around I'll post it.

Sounds to be more like a loose or broken cable to the LCD. That may be why you got it so cheap.
