Does anybody here experience poor GPS lock on with your Incredible 2's? I am coming from a droid pro which had no problem whatsoever establishing a lock, but the incredible 2 only seems to establish a lock after 5 minutes of having the google maps app on. The GPS status app doesn't seem to find any satellites out there either. I just got this phone from Costco and it's great otherwise but I want to know whether its this model's issue or if I got a defective phone.
Yeah mine took about three minutes to lock on with navigation beta.

I also remember that my Droid Pro has aGPS but the incredible 2 doesn't seem to have such an option. Is it hidden perhaps and does it help?
EDIT: Perhaps its just a coincidence.

I just got the phone a few days ago when this issue may have come about, but as for the rest of you, how was your inc2 a few weeks/months earlier?
No problems here. I get an instant 10m lock inside my house, where my old fascinate would take 5 seconds to get a 20m lock.
Where are you located?
southern cali, i live in a pretty poor signal area too
Hmm, if you take a look at that phandroid link I put up, it seems that this issue is specifically in new york. Thanks for letting me know that it is not an issue with the phone model though.
As for the rest of you in new york, hows your gps?
You sure no agps with dinc2?

Rochester here.
Was having problems with GPS until this morning. Attempted to use Maps and it worked.
I also toggled Wifi in between, so that may be another workaround, but I haven't had sufficient time to test that (I'm at work).
I was having the same problem of slow gps lock. I installed GPS Status & Toolbox from the market. There is an option to reset your GPS and redownload the A-GPS data. Immediately after doing so, I got lock in under 10 seconds.

My Inc2 seems to be performing well today, getting locks by my apartment's windows within 20 seconds. I'm about to leave and I will test it outside and report back.

I believe there's been at least one Maps update which seemed to help GPS lock and corrected the compass direction problem.

My compass was always backwards facing when I got my INC2, quite annoying. The only thing that fixed it was the OTA to GB. However, now that I have rooted and dropped MIUI on it, I am back to the backwards compass.
As for the lock issue, I get intermittent issues with that. Some days, the gps will find my signal and bring up my location almost dead on, other days it puts me at the tower, still other days it doesn't find me at all, and once it actually pulled google maps all the way over to Portugal. Since rooting and flashing, it has been pretty quick to grab the signal and puts me pretty close to location - but with a messed up compass pointer.

I am just outside of Rochester NY. Mine is working again. There was some kind of outage around here. GPS didn't work on my Inc2 or any of my friends phones for days.
Takes about 60 sec in central NJ. About 3 min when traveling to SF this past week, and frequently off by about 20m, placing me on the wrong block. Even on I-280 it placed me on a side road.

dinc2 gps trouble FIX!
After a couple of weeks out of country and using an extended battery with my Droid Incredible 2, then switching back I was unable to receive any gps data. After combing the net for solutions and nearly unrooting my wonderful dinc2 I remembered the antenna connections on the back cover. There are a total of 4 gold connections made for gps and radio and have wire receivers taped to the back inside cover. If you bend the gold connections on the edge of the phone back out towards the rear they will connect with the back cover and re-establish the radio connections for your gps. I tried that with mine and got a gps lock in about 5 seconds using Google maps and navigation.
Good luck!

So, for the most part, this phone has done a pretty good job with GPS locks so far. Besides the fact that my accuracy when using Goog Navigation is constantly fluctuating with the ominous blue circle around the car, I have been pleased. Today, though, google maps showed me several hundred miles north of my actual position. I toggled GPS, closed goog maps, and reopened...and same issue. I downloaded GPS toolbox, wiped a-gps cache, restarted goog maps, and the issue was resolved. Fast lock, correct location...however, this DOES give me some cause for concern. Anyone else seem anything similar?
Keep in mind, for the most part, I have been reasonably pleased with the locks. I have only seen this bad of an issue once
I haven't used it that much but on pleased as well. I use to use an apo called gps aids for my original epic. Sorry can't help more but I've only used gps once to make sure I got a lock. See if that apps helps u though.

I was able to resolve it through GPS Toolbox...but, hopefully this isn't a persistent issue. My EVO 4G was always good for a quick reliable lock

It also requires a subscription fee after the trial period. No thanks. My Google Nav works just fine.
Not to contradict but telnav basic software is free and does not need a monthly fee. The fee is only for the optional premium purchase which includes lane assist, red light cameras, speed traps, posted speed limits, and commute alerts. None of the premium features I need or want anyway, so the basic free software works for me.

I had an issue with my gps not wanting to get a lock all day a couple days ago. I downloaded gps test cleared agps and updated it, and still wouldn't work correctly. Then all of a sudden it did work, right before I was going to do a battery pull. I'm not sure what happened.
Today I was navigating somewhere by downtown chicago and my gps all of a sudden started acting goofy and kept rerouting me. I had to take a couple different turns because I was relying on it. I kept testing the gps on my way back home, and noticed that it was off by about one city block, but the big problem was my pointer was off 90 degrees, and that is what created my rerouting confusion. 2 hours later, it seems like its good again.
I'm concerned about this, because when I did need it such as today, it started spazzing out on me. Is there a way to calibrate the compass?
Oh and I cleared agps and updated it again with the gps test, and I think that's what fixed it.

This is exactly what I saw. It had me in the wrong place and since the heading was wrong, it looked like I was driving offroad in between major roads!
I had another major GPS issue today. It would never get a lock. I toggled GPS on and off, wiped AGPS cache, and nothing. Not for over 10 minutes. I power cycled the phone and this fixed it. I am getting a little concerned...
I haven't been having issues with the GPS really. I have had stronger locks with other phones but this one gets the job done. As for GPS getting crazy, if your in an area like a metro city with tall buildings then any GPS will go crazy. When I drive in Manhattan even my stand alone GPS goes a little crazy in certain areas.

This is happening to me on I-95 with no trees or buildings around
My gps is acting up again, since yesterday. With the gps test app, it is not locating any satellites, I'm not sure what to do, I still don't think it's a hardware issue though...but I'm not sure
Out of nowhere, my GSM Galaxy Nexus (stock JB) won't lock onto any satellites. It literally started happening out of nowhere. I navigated fine somewhere, did nothing to my phone, and on the way home I couldn't get a lock. Actually, I FINALLY got a lock after about 20 minutes, but I've been unable to get a lock since.
I reset and redownloaded agps data using GPS Test, and nothing. I also cleared data and cache in maps, and pulled the battery. GPS Test shows that the phone quickly sees 7 to 11 satellites, but none in use.
Any ideas? I'm really stumped. What could have caused this? Should my next step be flashing a different radio, reflashing JB, or anything else? Help!

Very interesting. Did it just start last night as well? At least this would indicate it's not a hardware problem.
Also, for what it's worth, the GPS is working fine on my buddy's Nexus 7 and my wife's Verizon galaxy nexus.

Bizarre...this happened to me as well...GPS Test would indicate that the phone was seeing 7-8 satellites, but would take forever to lock, if at all. At the time I was playing with Tasker and automating some GPS actions, so I thought maybe I screwed something up. GPS lock seems a bit better today, but still not as good as before
While GPS test for me would take a few minutes before any lock, Google map will seemingly to get 0 lock no matter how long I wait.
I had my nexus 7 next to my phone yesterday. I started Google map on my galaxy nexus for 5 min or so with no lock but the nexus 7 only took 5 sec to get a lock.

This definitely happend to both me and my girlfriend just yesterday evening! I did nothing, neither did she. I'm running JellyBelly v3, she's on stock Jelly Bean.
in GPS Test app, both of us can see 8-9 sats, but get 0 locks.
I've tried editing gps.conf file on both phones, no luck.
I've reflashed my ROM 3 times, no luck.
I have no idea what's going on here, I thought it was just us until I read this thread!
so glad I'm not going insane....
Now to just find a fix
Same thing for me... No gps for navigated today..
Also news and weather won't connect to the server either... All happened at the same time
I was wondering if I had a defective unit. GPS sucks on the Nexus. On my Note, it locks within a few seconds.

I agree that the GN GPS is not as strong as some other devices, but it's never performed as bad as it did yesterday. This is really curious that the problem was this widespread. Maybe some solar flares yesterday that impacted some weaker performing devices like the GN?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/21/sun-solar-flare-sunspot_n_1690576.html
solar flare
Solar Flare messes with the GPS on some device, if not all the devices..
It locks on my nexus in just a few seconds as well... normally. Ever since yesterday evening, Google maps and Nav never get a lock regardless of location or amount of time I wait. The nexus has a pretty crappy Wi-Fi radio, but the GPS has previously been pretty stellar. I'd like a word on what's going on here.
Also, I just tried to lock with my galaxy tab and my friends stratosphere and neither of them are getting locks as of yesterday. Can Samsung have screwed something up?

This is great. I was getting really worried my gps radio was screwed up, but there's obviously some type of server side problem. I wonder what the hell it is though, since other Android devices and CDMA Galaxy Nexus devices are working fine.

Poor GPS reception on GS3 - - Please help...
I have been having problems out of my GS3's gps reception. Navigation will not lock on satellites. Telenav isn't much better. Sometimes, Navigation will revert to cell tower triangulation and give me a general location, but forget it when it comes to navigating with it.
I was rooted, but I have reverted back to stock with QBKing77's method and sextape's all in one stock rom. The problem started after reverting to stock so I think this might be the culprit. I am going to take it to a repair center and act like there has been no modification and see what they say.
But I wanted to check here first.

You could try installing GPS Status from the Play Store and use it to clear and refresh your GPS data. That may require root, though. This was how a lot of people used to fix GPS on the Evo 4G when using GB and ICS AOSP ROMs.

Help...
My replacement E4GT's gps just does not work, brought it to store and they said they "fixed" it with some software patch. Well as I suspected it did not fix it and would love to know about this patch but didn't get any info out of them.
Went back and tested gps on a gsii, 2 gsiiis, 2 notes and none of them would get a gps lock. Tried HTC evo lte and gps locked almost instantly. Repair guy said he can reload original GB on my phone to see if that makes it work, he said he still has gb on his phone and it is better than current.
I can get a replacement but it will count towards my 3 exchanges per year, trying to argue that they gave me a defective phone from the start and that it should not count.
Oh well, my wife's E4GT gps locks instantly while mine keeps blinking for hours in the same spot. Both phones are on official OTA and no root.
I really like this phone and love that it is wimax since no lte yet, just sick of getting defective ones. Going back tomorrow to talk to someone else there and then will decide about exchange.
I could not believe that the GSIIIs and Note 2s would not even get a gps lock at the store but HTC did, Samsung really needs to do better with this.
Samsung phones have bad gps radios
Htc has better ones that's about it
Couple things I'd try, since this doesn't seem to be a typical "how do I fix" thread.. Or the beer kicked in..
Did you try a side by side with something like GPS Test from the play store?
Do you have access or know someone with a Garmin to test visible satellites at the same time as the phone(s)?
I'm interested if it is actually hardware or software related.

I am glad to hear this, my comment wasn't to say that all Notes have bad GPS, just my observation while in the Sprint store.
The GPS on my previous E4GTs have all worked but this one I have now does not.
My phone wouldnt lock either. I always lock gps in an app like gps status before anything. Anyway all I do is shut gps off then back on. Reboot with gps on. When booted up run gps status outside, get lock. After that it always locks instantly. I have to do this with every flash or it will not lock. I think its software not hardware
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
You aren't alone. I've had two E4GT and the GPS is horrible and sporadic. If you're indoors forget about even trying to get a lock.
There is some sort of hardware problem with some, but not all, samsung phones. My old e4gt had absolutely awful gps, and my new one locks incredibly quickly, indoors or not. I tried every single "fix" out there, probably flashed at least 15 different zips and settings. The simple answer is that the onlt way to fix the problem is with a new phone - and even then, it's a lottery.
