Overall I think its pretty good, however, I notice if you press the phone to your ear somewhat hard, it will creak. If you press above the speaker grill it will slightly creak too. Its kind of annoying, but my Note 2 on T-Mobile does it also. I also would rather have capacitive buttons than a physical home button. The home button tends to make a "clicky" noise if you press the center, whereas pressing the sides result in no sounds.
I think the Note has better build quality than the GSIII though, but its still got ways to go. What do you guys have to say about build quality?
And for $700 one is to be very nitpicky about such things.

Unless you use glass or an equally hard material squeaks will be inevitable. I wouldn't count that as poor quality, just the way it is.

Your absolutely right.
Overall I believe the build quality is very good but Samsung will need to step it up to be in Apple's league. The back material should be improved, it seems to be quite prone to micro scratches. I understand that they can't use aluminum or glass since it would make the Note II weigh a brick but perhaps a matte type of plastic like HTC phones.
I don't think that because Samsung make their phone out of plastic that equals poor build quality. Their are advantages to using this type of polycarbonate to build their pones. Aside from making the phone thin and light I have read one of the reasons iPhone doesn't have NFC is because the aluminum body make it practically impossible.
I just wish they stopped using shiny plastic that is a fingerprint magnet and is more likely to show scratches. I'd prefer a back like the S2 or the rubberized type back.
It's a phone... I guess I'm a function over form type of guy.

Just remember...removable sd-card and removable battery!
In the past, I've always kept a case on my phones.. so It's only whenever I have to do a battery pull do I actually see the back cover. Plastic, glass, steel, all the same to me lol.
Negir electronics is only 629 no tax

Overall I think it's good enough on the quality with the materials. But I'm a little picky on some interaction parts like buttons, I hope Note II got more consistency and better quality. Power button and home button are ones that we press so many times. Initially power button was a bit loose so I actually disassembled and added two layers of tapes on the back of the button. Now it feels much more responsive and tighter.

My power button seems very firm. It does not move at all. My home button the other hand makes a loud click sound it pressed directly in the middle.

My buttons are firm too, even home. No click.
I'd take this physical home button over capacitive any day (a previous poster states the opposite). Often the home button is a more convenient unlock button, makes it easier to tell if the phone is upside down or not when just waking up in the morning or in a dark room, and it's easier to operate quickly without looking.
I like the note 2 build quality. View the drop tests. Note 2 did EXTREMELY well. I have a case anyway so could care less about the look of the back materials and the front is sexy Imo.

I think everyone's home button clicks if pressed a certain way. It's just knowing what to listen for.
This one(GN2) feels much better than the OG Note in my opinion.

Black ones will be coming out after the first of the year sometime...but...I am going to disagree with you about them not being in Apple's league...because to me they have already surpassed them not only in delivering a superior phone..but as far as the build quality of mine it doesn't take a back seat to them.Sure..the Iphones may be built out of higher costing materials...but all one has to do is go look on most all of the Apple forums and see just how sloppy they have become in the past 2 years..and I sure as hell wouldn't want a aluminum or glass back like what comes on their's...that is more prone to breaking and scratching than the poly carbonite Samsung uses..The mystic and glamor of the Iphone is nothing more than a trend that is waining...

I got $225 for my like new 3 month old 32gig IPhone 4s last week at the AT&T store when I traded it in on my GN II...so if your wanting more you might want to sell it outright to someone..
If the build quality of your GN II is not up to par...why wish it better...return it in your 14 day grace period and get one that is perfect..

I tried to exchange to get a better one, but they refused because they cannot agree with my complaint about button quality so I have to pay a restocking fee if I really want to get a new one. I was quite mad about it because three store managers disagreed me for an exchange regarding the button quality.

Pay the restocking fee and get a new one. It sucks but they are doing that now.
You can call the executive office and complain to them and see if they will reenburse you on your next bill.
Make sure to check the phone out well before leaving the store this time though so there won't be a issue next time.

Alright guys, I got this case as its been popular in the comunity and wanted to give it a try...this case is absolutely gorgeous...looks great, feels great and seems to be one of the most protective cases out there that lets you keep the slick look of the device BUT the bad outweights the good... my main concern were the buttons..I got into a couple of rage moments and i believe I developed new muscles in my thumb from trying to press the on/off screen.
Watch the video and make your own decision
Hope this helps you guys!
http://youtu.be/pkHHeVQgNL0
Just commented on your other video haha. You just go out and buy a million cases? Haha. But if you put a piece of paper where the volume buttons and where the power button is. It will help out making them easier to press. Just fyi

I have this case and with extended use the button areas do get softer.
Quality is top notch. And in terms of slipperyness.. its not as bad as glossy cases but definitely does not stick like rubber. This is actually a good thing because when its in your pocket it glides of easy.
Sent from my SGH-T989
yes..its impossible to disagree that the quality is just amazing..cant match it at all ,and the look is just plain great..but for the price tag I really expected a little more R&D and not having to do work arounds to use them comfortably

haha! negative, I get them as gifts or people send them to me to review them and to write an honest opinion..thats why you dont see me lying about the case hehe.
Yeah the paper thingy does work ,but my point was like after normal people (not us phone junkies) get the case, they have to do something else to make it work. And after paying 35 dollars thats just isnt fair . Now if people picked them up for free or shipping only..it hella worth it
I wish they come with a revision because if they do That will be the case i would be sporting for good
Despite the quirks, I can say that the case works. I was climbing stairs in an apartment complex, and my phone covered with this case, fell out of my pocket and dropped about 12 feet in height. Whew.. Thank goodness for this case, it survived... Very happy that I spent money on this case.
thats a mortal drop dude!!!! im glad the phone survived! yeah its a great protective case...again if they fix that little issue it ll b a winner for sure!

I got the all black one, and of course was before this video was posted...
What I ended up doing was taking an exacto blade and cutting along the wide parts of the buttons near where the mold for each one starts. The buttons now press with ease and the cuts are not visible.
I tried the deal with the paper under the buttons first, but it made the buttons too easy to press, they phone kept getting turned on in my pocket.
how easy was cutting around?
cutting through was easy, you just don't want to cut all the way around the button.
You only cut the longest sides of the buttons. There was an illustration somewhere in regards to the same thing.

I love this case! I have the 2 tone black back and gray front. This may sound crazy, but I'm thinking about taking it to a skate shop and having grip tape installed on the back part.
Nice review, a bit long though to make your point. I have this case and its really nice. I personally love it. I don't mind the button issue though, I have adapted. It does get a bit annoying at times, but that's only when flashing Roms in CWM. I feel perfectly safe and not afraid to drop my phone. I feel the more careless I am the less I tend to drop it. I bought mine online for $14 so it was a great deal.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
Usually my reviews are the same length and I try to attack the same points so I can have uniformity.
I love the case and after modding it it def went up in my book however the average Joe user won't know how to mod the case

ive also had the case since basically it came out and it has also developed multiple cracks on the back. one runs from the usb port up about an inch, and others are where the buttons are, though smaller. this might be from taking it off and on every once in a while.
sighs. i have a spare one in black though, but i like this white one.
I have had mine now for 3 weeks and I love the case and hate the buttons. I am going to try the mod and see if that helps. The buttons are the only bad thing about this case.
I am considering the xperia arc S, I am unable to get my hands on the xperia arc or arc S before buying so I have to ask you guys.
I am worried about the ergonomics of the phone after reading reviews. Some reviews say that the inward curve makes the phone harder to get a grip, it's a huge phone and I dont want to drop it too many times. Do you agree about the grip being not too good?
The other problem seems to be the power button. Unlocking is not a problem due to hardware home button but I want to be able to quickly and comfortably lock the phone and it seems like the arc will require a bit more effort. Using a widget is not an option as many times I have to lock the phone while browsing etc. So whats your take on the power button? Did you get used to it quickly? Do you find locking the phone with one hand easy?
i just picked one up, decided the galaxy nexus was too expensive and ill sell it and get another one later, compared to the gnexus this phone is super tiny, it weighs virtually nothing and is comfortable to hold, feels tiny in the hand now, id say it feels a little bigger than an iphone and twice as light, the curve is nice, but i will say that the screen and resolution feel off after using the galaxy nexus, im sure its just an adjustment im going through. the lock button is easy to reach because the phone isnt too large as well.
Is it bigger than x10?Arc S is my next phone.

it might be a bit taller but its so much slimmer it feels smaller in the hand
its slim,
comfort on your palm,
button easy to reach due to its slim and curvy body,
if you are afraid of dropping it, use a silicon casing.
never drop it before since i first bought it.
power button, if you are having big finger, yes it is hard.
but no if you are using the tip of your thumb nail.
another suggestions, you should goto the store try the phone, dont buy it yet and decide how does it fell, and let us know.
our experiences should be differ than yours after trying it...
Thanks

about the power button, i have no problem reaching it. i can use my index finger to press it, while my thumb and other 3 fingers holding it, that's using 1 hand ! yes, its that light

And iphone is also thinner than the thickest parts of the arc, I would say they are equal overall. Ofcourse it's heavier.

No, arc is almost same dimensions while being thinner. Also the way it's designed means that despite having a larger screen the phone is almost exactly same size as x10.

I upgraded from the previous weighty SE Aino to SE Arc S. Initially I couldn't get used to its lightness - tends to almost fly off my hand. After fitting it with a light silicon matte case, it is so much more comfortable.
Nope, haven't dropped it before, because it's such a beautiful phone that you tend to want to take good care of it.
As for locking of phone while browsing, I haven't tried doing that before. However I had a widget installed such that when I pull down the notification bar, I can switch off the screen from there. Have gotten used to it that I forgot that it was there to replace the Power button... Lol...

lol interesting thread - i've had my note for a total of 2.5 hours so far (side by side with my S3) and i've got to say (having used the original note) the overall feel is nice, very rounded, a bit slippery perhaps (nothing a skin cant fix)
the pen still feels lighter than i'd like and the button is a bit more recessed than i'd like
the home button is awesome and much more responsive than my stock s3
a similar complaint to my s3 but when grabbing the device from the bottom edge, i have a tendency to tap the menu / back buttons on accident, a bit annoying when not using a case
the glass is nice, the feel of the pen on the screen is much more controlled than the original
nfc, yay! google wallet downloaded, would message ' not compatible' on open and shut itself down... boo..
the volume and home button have a nice confident click and feel compared to the s3 and original note...

Man... youre right about the home and volume buttons... i forgot
Google Wallet not working.
Lack of multi windows.
The pen feels a bit cheap still (loved the feel of the Palm Tungsten metal ones that were telescopic). Though fixable as I think I'll get a dual use pen/pointer to keep in pocket/briefcase, I'm a fairly large bloke too, so having that larger pen will help too, this current one isn't really of a decent size/thickness/weight to use for long periods of time, I think my hand would 'claw' up.
Lack of cases for a while (the official 'flap' one is good, got it at last but was making me twitchy not having it protected. Wish there was a good/cheap pouch type case to slide it in for extra protection). And/or the 'flap' phone case, the front of it, the actual flap, is wonderful to touch, but the back is the same uber slippery plastic that the default one is. Can NFC not be done through a very slightly thicker case with a built in rubberised coasting, as the Nexus7 has? This thing is still very, very slick, and I can see with slightly sweaty hands, I'll need to be extra careful.
The built in Samsung Keyboard (that is SO incredibly good with the Swype/cool T9 like swype functionalty/left/right handed), but doesn't scale to other resolutions if you tweak the lcd dpi. REALLY a great keyboard, please make it scale! No, best keyboard I've ever used, and it's keeping me from tweaking the dpi.
The knowledge that when I do inevitably flash CM on this, I'll probably end up losing TMobile wifi calling, that for me, is working wonderfully.
Touch wiz is mildly... odd. But not as bad as seen before, JB's ability to disable things is really helping. But what annoys me somewhat is the different functionality for no other reason than to do it different it appears, and needing a few extra apps (like the photo editor) downloaded when built in apps rely on it.
Oh, no 32mb NII's in TMobile, and so much of the 16GB filled with Bloatware (steady Cyanogenmod, steady... your day will come).
So, all pretty minor (hopefully constructive) criticisms. Overall, still mad impressed with this phone. All phones should have the option to have it work with a stylus as well integrated as this.
If I had the chance to order things to be fixed;
Wifi Calling for Tmobile as an installable app so I'd be less twitchy about flashing with other roms.
Rubberised back.
My personal gripe, is about how much my GN2 looks and feels like an iPhone. In everyway, from the straight lines, to the rounded corners, and don't get me started with the app drawer. The smoothness of page transitions, Google Now.
OK.. I was just kidding guys! LOL.
My real gripes -
1 the on/off button on the exact opposite side of the device as the volume rocker. They should have put it up on top.
2 No dedicated camera button.
3 I always loved scrollable wallpaper, which I feel I shouldn't need to root, and re-rom for it.
4 No auto spell correct from the stock Samsung keyboard.

Only gripe is the call volume being a bit on the low side even when maxed. Speaker is loud enough though.
I'm sure they're apks to tweak it a bit but I'm too busy enjoying the phone so i'll search for a fix later.
Somerhing for me is the screen keeps timing our evn with the option checked to see my eyes... also when it goes out and I press home button it goes home instead of waking up to the app I was on. Everyother phone did not do this. Is this just me or is there a setting?
I came from the S3, and love everything about my Note 2. I can't say one bad thing about it.

Size once in a while, I'm 5'7 so I guess that means I have smaller hands? For the most part I dont have an issue but some times my hand gets fatigued from using it too much...Not complaining but sometimes I wish they kept the 5.3 and made it narrower it'd be perfect for me.
I don't like that we can't use our S-Pen on our soft keys. It would be great to be able to hit the menu and back buttons with the pen and have them respond.
i dont like the physical home button, but not enough to keep me from buying it, i think next year it will be all cap.buttons.oh well i'll get it when its available

Does anyone else have a slight rattle noise coming from the camera area/back corner? You cant really hear it unless you tap on the back of the tablet lightly. My old(2012) nexus doesnt make this sound and not sure if this is normal on the new 1s or not.
i hear a tapping noise when i tap on it.
come on man, do you buy products to find problems? do not make this into the screen lifting issue with the first nexus 7. noone needs you exchanging yours a hundred times taking away possible purchases from other people.
Pretty sure it's normal. Same noise on my Nexus 4.
please dont start star the "screen lift" saga of 2012 with the 2013 model some people look for things wrong.. if you have buyers remorse take it back.
its the camera. you will notice that on a lot of devices with cameras. my Gnex does this, my wifes Droid Razr HD does this as well. my thunderbolt did it too. pretty sure it is something inside the camera housings.
dont tap there. its nothing to worry about.
i swear, the only time i find stuff wrong with my electronics is when OTHER people point them out.

My GNex doesnt make this particular sound, it makes a sound from the cover not being flush with the back tho.
Either way not a big deal, was just wondering if it was normal or not.
ridiculous mentality from some people here. A LOT of users, me included, go to forums like XDA to learn about potential build flaws because some of us actually care about getting quality controlled devices for our money. I actually didn't buy the Nexus 10 because of all the reports, both from forums and in reviews, about the bleeding, and I'm grateful for all those reports.
Just because you'd happily pay for a product with obvious defects and then defend the manufacturer to the bone like it was your employer doesn't mean everyone have that attitude. In the year 2012 gluing a screen to a bezel shouldn't have been a problem.
I'm not saying the OP has discovered a flaw here but any report of potential flaws is appreciated by someone like me and your overly defensive mentality is sad to see. Don't decide for others what a flaw is cause it is highly subjective.

lol, i just took the battery cover off the phone and tapped around, and the rattling got even worse....lol. My new N7 does have the rattling, though I dont think i would have ever noticed it, and I dont think its a defect at all.

i agree with that. its just some times (like the N7 screen lift saga) the defect isn't even noticeable until someone points it out to you.
The volume rocker rattles when I tap it. I've noticed on very smartphone and tablet I've handled pretty much does it as well.
Built like a tank, no issues here.

my volume rocker is solid, definitely seems like its coming from the camera.
Its the camera lenses. Perfectly normal. All cameras do this to some extent.
My galaxy nexus doesn't.... But remember it having a 0 shutter lag. Maybe it has a unique camera or something. Most other cameras click when tapped.

So i did a exchange and the new 1 i got has the same sound. kinda odd that some people are stating they arent getting the noise from the camera...
Anyone else getting the creaking/rattle?
Its the focus lens, lots of devices do this
Sent from my Nexus 7
does anyone else have it as bad as me?
I hear it even if i put if I put it down lightly.
example: flat on table with something soft under, pick up top area around 1cm and give it a little force pushing it down.
my first 1 was definitely louder than the replacement, i could hear it through the box. my replacement still does it when i place it on my lap or table, but its not as bad.
im pretty sure all of them do it. so if you dont have any of the other issues(dead pixel/QI not working etc) people are mentioning i would just keep it.

Yup I have it the exact same. I was nervous cuz I had it in my backpack (in a sleeve tho) and noticed it after I took it out, but if other ppl have it I'll let it go... Certainly seems like the camera

Hey,buddy.
I am confused about this , i mean , my nexus 7 has the identical issue even it is a very very slight tap...
Is it similar to yours?
not only the camera area but also the upper part of back cover...
it seems to be a normal to make the noise from the camera lens. i wouldnt worry about it too much.
I am still confused why some others have said they dont have the sound tho.
Hi, lets put aside "lol it will blow your house" thing...
The main reason i want this phone is screen (well also having a samsung vr would be interesting)
What do u guys think besides that what reasons u guys wont recommend me to buy this phone?
thanks!
It's the best phone currently made, so really no reason not to get it. I think the main thing I don't like is the non-removable battery, which had Samsung put a removable battery in it then the whole recall thing would have been as simple as them sending us a new battery. But overall there is very little to complain about with the phone and a ton of things to like.
The lack of IR blaster is very disappointing.
The credibility of Samsung after the recall.
Question of future updates.
Light leak under the curved glass.
Saying all that I'm still waiting patently for my replacement..
Doesn't make wet coffee only dry. Makes a mess of washing my car.
BUY IT and love it......I have never been so black and white before. Just try and buy one, its hell!
Go go go and get the Note 7........

Anyone that lacks mental bandwidth to use a real phone. In that case I recommend that person to go buy an Iphone where it requires nothing more than swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe and press.
the only reason I can think about somebody not geting a note 7 is not having the money to do it.......
How common is this "light leak" issue? My note gets here tomorrow and I want to make sure it doesn't have any build quality issues. I went through 3 s6s and got stuck with one with a wobbly home button and asymmetrical screen.

My previous Note 7 had the gap (the same gap described as expansion in the user manual and did indeed leak light) Replacement does not have the expansion gap at all, in fact it is just like the S7 Edge in that it is bonded entirely. Very happy with my replacement.

So when I get the phone I just need to check the sides where it curves and make sure the glass is sealed tightly against the metal with no gap?

Also.. Anyone have any luck with a protector working with a case yet? I want the neo hybrid case.
Curved screen makes it almost impossible to get a good screen protector and especially a good screen protector/case combination that plays nice. No IR blaster, no removable battery, audio is pretty crappy (standard crappy, not particularly crappy compared to other phones that aren't enhanced like the HTC and LG flagships), curves on screen get annoying when using s-pen, probably will never get s-off... That's about all I can think of. Oh, and occasional lag which I don't think should happen in today's day and age with these processors and RAM amounts. It's probably just Samsung and their TouchWiz... I think the HTC 10 and LG V10 seem smoother, honestly. Not a huge deal though.

This is only reason I can really think of depending on what you are coming from. I had one before the recall and that one was even worse than this one. I get this with my Nexus 6P which is a year old. I love everything else about it, dunno what people are doing to get 4-5 hours of SOT differently than I am.
Its the best phone out bar none.
That said i find the edge screen useless and annoying...cant even use a glass screen protector. I would prefer a flat screen.
I would prefer a flat 6" screen actually lol.
Would be nice if it had front firing stereo speakers also....my nexus 6 and 6P kill the note in sound.
Other than that i couldnt think of anything else someone may not like about it.

So basically no screen protectors work with a case with the phone. That a major issue for me bcuz I'm ocd and a scratch on the screen will drive me nuts.

Don't get the Note 7. You've already talked yourself into how terrible it is. In fact, don't get any phone, I don't think there is ever going to be one made that would keep you anywhere near glass half full stage.
The phone comes with screen protectosr preinstalled. Both back and front.
One main reason I can think of at least for me is sound quality. Sound quality is not the greatest by far. Hands cover the speaker a lot when holding it. Although it is because the phone is water resistant but still. There is a dual speaker mod though that I have yet to try that could help with this
i have the phone and i like it, but there are definitely reasons not to buy it.
1: you can get a OnePlus 3 for less than half the price, and the only areas the Note 7 "wins" in are subjective stuff like screen quality (i don't believe the human eye can see the difference between 1080p and quad HD) or "i like having a stylus". the Note 7 camera is better, but mostly in low light situation, and the gap isn't nearly as big as Android blogs (and Samsung owners) make it out to be.
2: TouchWiz has cleaned up but it's still not as smooth as just about every other OS out there. people hate on LG, well i'm using a LG V20 right now and it's definitely smoother and snappier than the Note 7. OnePlus 3 too, is smoother than the Note 7.
with that said, the phone IS beautiful to look at. the edge display give it a really cool bezel-less effect, but it's not practical (edge features are redundant) AND makes the phone more likely to break than "normal" phones.
if money is no issue or you are a gadget geek who just like to own the biggest, most hyped it product (i belong in the this group), then by all means, the Note 7 is a worthy purchase. but to the very average consumer, like, say my middle-aged mom? i wouldn't advise her to buy the note 7 for $850 when there are $400 phones that more than gets the job done for daily use.

plastic screen protector works, but yeah, no temper glass ones.
i've tried a few temper glass protectors, they either don't cover the sides, or cover the sides but lack adhesive in the middle, which makes the screen less responsive, especially when typing.
For me it would be the green battery icon All other things I can live with (facepalm)

Yeah I think you have talked yourself out of the phone before even trying it. I see you post on every thread and its something negative about it without even have used it.

goes to show, any cheap or non standard batteries (or even OE) from ebay can easily cause the same issues as samsung have faced.

have you tried the nano/liquid ones? I've given up with plastic and tempered glass crap. Its a better experience not using one at all.
