Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was a way to mod the stock SMS apk (of if there is one modded somewhere) to support group messaging from iphones so that everything is in one thread and not multiple (I think its called threaded group messaging?) I've tried all the messaging replacements such as handcent and gosms but neither of them did it for me since I like the stock better. I've searched a bit for a solution but all I can find is to use the replacements which I don't really want to do. Right now I'm on JMT X2 but messaging is still stock from what I can see and being able to support group messaging would be a nice little added bonus feature.
Anyone know any solutions to this out there?
Thanks in advance.
Well idk about a modded sms apk but u can use kik messenger. That's what me and my friends use

GroupMe i work at sprint and my manager uses it to send us group convos that we all see and reply works between ANDROID IOS AND BB
I tried text free and didn't work for me.
But does group me handle incoming group messages or does it only handle the ones I send?

I don't know if this is still a problem for you but there are several threads out there now with instructions to add that feature to your phone. There is one that uses the AOSP mms.apk or I'm working on one for SecMms.apk (because I don't like the AOSP theme and I like the TW themed app better) Let me know and I'd be happy to help you any way I can.
I've never used group messaging before but I think I saw an option in there that lets you enable it. I'm on a 4.2.2 Rom right now so I can't confirm that but the SecMms.apk I attached works on the Jedi Rom and probably other touchwiz roms too. Plus it doesn't really hurt to try.. just make a backup and copy the apk to the system with a root explorer

So I have a galaxy s3 on Sprint, not rooted or anything. Why is it I can see emojis on Twitter?
I follow Kid Ink, he uses them every now and then. He says he uses android, how did he get emojis on Twitter?
In the image you can see what I see. I believe those are emoji ?
Also why did my nexus 7 get an emoji keyboard on it with its update to 4.2 I believe?

One place I know of is in the txt msg app, in the settings you can enable support for like 471 emoji.

You can see the emojis in Twitter, Instagram, Messaging, etc. now because there is emoji support in Jelly Bean. However, as far as I know, there is no emoji add-on to the stock keyboard. I know it's not a part of your question but you can type emojis on Twitter and Instagram using other keyboards with the add on. The one I use is go keyboard, but just for the emojis. I personally think it's a terrible keyboard
There is a modified stock keyboard in the International Forum. I don't know if it will work with ours or not. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jlsoft.inputmethod.latin.jelly.free is a stock jellybean keyboard and if you download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.handcent.plugin.emoji and enable it in the keyboard settings you will have an emoji key just like iDevices.
Download multiLing keyboard off the market.

For some strange reason I can't see emoji on my phone anymore. Anybody know what's up? I'm running stock LJ7 no mods, fresh install.
I think I remember having something similar. I don't know if I was on stock but after I flashed a different rom the emojis were all showing. I know that's not an ideal approach but you could try it.

It worked! Thanks!
I ported over the framework for the mms.ap from 4.2.2 and it has the Group Messaging Feature.
Steps:
Backup your Messages [They will be Deleted, use something like sms backup or titanium backup.]
Backup your ROM I did make Framework changes.
Flash the zip it will delete you messages
If it doesn't work for you it may be your framework2.jar. Just send me it and I can merge it into yours. If it works for you let me know so I can update OP so everyone will know
4/28 - Added one with a Blacklist option. [You must flash the original first in order to get the framework files that you need] I did it like this so that I don't have to make one for every ROM and it will just change the apk. Group MMS on TW Blacklist apk.zip

With today's update have the color issues been fixed ? Like when your typing a message but can't read or see the words ?
I flashed this on CR 4.2.5 with almost no issues. When I touch my contact picture in a thread, it'll freeze and contacts will F/C.

from what i remember reading in the other emoji mms thread, that is a known issue because only 4.2 mms is ported here. if you click contacts, it will fc because it is looking for the 4.2 contacts, which does not exist in this rom being 4.1.2 systemui etc. so yeah, just don't click the picture i guess until there's a way in the future around it

i just tested this and it's not fixed. he needs to fix an xml for that to show up as white in the black background. right now it's defaulting to black text the way your picture showed.
the only way to temporarily fix it is to make the conversation list background white. you can do this in the mms theme menu.

I'm seeking an AOSP experience in the recent TW for our phone. Seeing other phones like the s3 get AOSP MMS working is exciting. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2103108

You can push the aosp mms and have the tw mms back up and see. It's the same imo. I could be wrong but just nanoid and you'll be fine.

1st of all I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You're responsible for making the decision to do this.
With that said..please make a nanoid backup first!
If you're rooted use root explorer push the apk into your system/apps folder and fix permission to rw-r-r then reboot. It's simple, fairly simple.

Yes it does work...I'm currently running AOSP MMS with Emjois right now. You just need to rename the SecSms and KeygaurdWidget apk. The keyguard widget is what show on your lockscreen so if you have that active and the AOSP MMS notification it would look funny.
Not working tested for 4.1 touchwiz. Renamed others, set permissions reboot does not even show up as an app.

Group Messaging for SecMms on TW
Hey guys, not gonna lie, I'm excited to see some discussion on this topic in the T989 forum! I'm working on this very thing for my T989!
I like the TW messaging app so I'm working on a Verizon port of TW SecMms.apk. I don't really like the AOSP themed mms app, but I'm down for trying that and getting it to work as well. There are other files you have to modify like framework2.jar and SecTelephonyProvider.apk to get the group messages to thread right. I still have a few bugs...like not being able to send photos while on WiFi calling, and the messages I send to the group coming back to me in a separate thread...but other than that, once I make a little more progress in figuring that out I'm going to write up a guide.
I'm not a developer, I'm a curious noob who isn't afraid to try stuff and brick my phone. I'm here to learn from geniuses who are smarter and cleverer than I am! If in anyway my noobishness has contributed anything intelligent, thanks are always appreciated.
I need a littile more help

Hello,
I am wondering if someone with the skills to do do, could cook up a mod to include emoji/ emoticons into the messeges app? It's that one MIUI feature I've always missed. It's also really annoying when iPhone people send emojis and they turn out like this: ¤⊙℃.
If anything has any interest in seeing something like this worked on, like this post! Maybe someone will get inspired.
Thanks

Textra is such a nice and lightweight app, with individual notification settings, emoji and reply from notification panel (it opens up a small popup rather than the whole app). It's running SMOOTH on my One.

I'm sorry if this has been posted before...But
I'm using the Sprint Galaxy SIII and for 2 days I've been searching and trying different keyboards looking for one comparable to the keyboard in cm 10.1. The emojis worked great on that. Since switching back to stock rooted touchwiz I haven't found anything that works as well. I've tried stock Android keyboard because that's what's everyone is saying works, but when I go to settings to add dictionary, there is no dictionary option for me to use to try to add emojis. I know someone will probably say browse the threads but I've done that for 2 days and haven't had any luck so if someone can just point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it. If you've used cm 10.1 that keyboard with those emojis would be perfect.
Thanks in advance!!

Yeah, I misunderstood the question, most of the ones in the market don't receive emoji at all. I wish Swype would add it, their keyboard is pretty good, now out of beta. The MMS app gives you the emoji send/receive experience and it's super customizable.
