[Q] Echo in call - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone face echo in call? I can hear myself sometimes in call...
Handwritten from my Note 2

i was talking to the wife using bluetooth handsfree from the car the other day and she said she could hear her own voice .
i put that down to her hearing herself back through the cars speakers though.

OP: If you're hearing yourself. Does it happen to everybody or just one specific person? If you have a cover/case on your phone ensure that the bottom and top mic is not being blocked. Ask the other person on the other end the same.
Ron

I was having the same problem. First i thought it was bad reception but then i realised there is a "call settings" menu on the phone app. Under call settings menu "my sound" has some options to change your voice clearity. That worked for me.

Phone tap.

@ _delice_doluca_: This helped i think ! THANKS !

You can normally tell when someone does receive a call waiting notification either from the conversation cutting out or hearing some other anomally. I don't think that this would be a software issue for Google to fix though.

I turned the call waiting off , then i called myself and picked up, and then called from another number at the same time then it just say user is busy it gives no beeping or any kind of notification when i am on a call, this is one of the issues with android. and definately a missing feature or havent been looked at.Cause only i should get the notification for beeping not the caller who is on call waiting.
i havent used any androids before but in any other phone i used there is no notification to my caller that i am receiving a call just to me i get a beep sound that someone is on call waiting.
No one has an answer ? Common guys I am on the biggest websites for android.
Anyone of you tried what i am talking about ?
I use the settings you were describibg and i get an anoying double beep sound when someone else calls me...
Just by "phone-app > settings > adittional >".
Remember that some serviceproviders don't support this feature though.

is there any develpor even looking or understanding what i am trying to say here ?
or can someone point me in a direction so i can atleast point this to someone who can do something about it ?
have anyone tried or tested what i am talking about ?
ok again i ll try to elaborate my question again.
i am on a call with 1st person , a second person calls me i can hear the beep that someone else is calling but the 1st person i am talking to also gets a beep that another person is calling me. why ?
and if i turn off call waiting is settings>additinal settings then i dont get any notification and i cant pick up the call ,as i am not notified, and the second user just get that i am busy

Wauw I never knew other hear the beep as well. But as fast as it happens i tell the person i'm calling with to wait for a second (unless that call is more important) and then i click the on hold button. After 2 or 3 seconds my phone will ring and I can pick it up...
how long are people allowed to dial in, and have you got redirect (wich standard goes to voicemail) on at your phone or provider? Check that up by dialing your voicemail and checking the spoken information. As for the beep... i can't reproduce it nor know it... how loud is your speaker?

Basically what he is saying that both parties hear the beep when someone is calling him. I hear it too in my phone, I think its a service provider thing because in my country, every phone I had switched on call waiting both parties will hear the beep.
P.s even when using my Bluetooth so there is no way they can hear it from my speaker.

exactly, but if i put my sim in my nokia phone only i hear the beep that someone is calling the other person doesnt.
So i am sure this is not related to service provider.

Well how can you say that this is a feature ? lol......
I know this is a smartphone , but right know i can see this is a dumb feature(if you call it a feature),or i can say this havent been looked into at all by google.
So now my question do all androids have this same issue ?
Can some pro-dev tell me if there is anything that can be done ,any tweak any software ?

Did you know , you could do this on Windows Phone

You can Automatically put a Call on Speaker using Voice Command
Good find, thanks!
Found it but only by accident.
Oho, very usefull, i'm gonna try it on lumia 800
Very cool. Anyone know if you can answer a call on a sleeping phone with a voice command? That would be handy for an incoming call when driving. Something like "answer call on speaker".
Or you can just click the speaker button.
I always accidentally put it on speaker mode using voice command but never knew how to actually trigger it

Well I'm glad they did, I had no idea you could do this. And it saves from that second of looking down while driving to hit the speaker button (sometimes it's just not an option to pull over).

Well after some Minutes I figured out the German command:
I didn't work for me very well, he told many times, that he can't find the contact, because he recognizes "lautsprecher" (ger. speaker) as part of the name.
"ruf X an auf Lautsprecher" (ger. "call X on speaker") did not work at all, I had to say: "ruf X an, Lautsprecher" (ger. "call X, speaker") but even that didn't work very well, like I said above.
Anyway, good to know that there is a function for that, but I think I will still use the button for that.. :/
Thanks anyway!
Cool
Press the Windows phone button and say " What can I say" when it asks you to speak. You get the complete list of commands that you can say to you phone.Be sure you scroll to the left and the right to see the other commands other than call.
I remember stumbling upon this by accident when I said "Call Michael R." but slurred momentarily afterwards, and then my WP responded by saying "Calling Michael R. on Speakerphone". Cue epic "WTF?". Still, it's an impressive feature to have.
A thing for headset users (like I have the HTC headset for my TITAN), the "Play/Pause" button on the headset may also be able to trigger Microsoft TellMe. A tip for this though, if you're planning to do this I recommend going to Settings -> Speech -> and make sure "Use Speech when the phone is locked" is checked.
P.S. I do have the contact's full surname in the entry, but have simply put the initial there for the purposes of respecting his privacy.
thanks for an information thread
The way windows phone handles voice commands over Bluetooth is one of the big selling points for me. I like the way it reads out SMS over my car speakers and gives me the option to respond by voice. I also have an HTC one x but never use it in the car (I.e most of my working day) because I cannot find an android app that replicates this function with the ease if use that wp has built in out of the box.
(P.S. before any flame wars start, I am not not knocking the One x or android, I love the hi Def screen, some of the games and the text ref low in the browser, the industrial design is also second to none IMHO.)
So after having a listen to the response to pressinf the centre (windows button) and saying "What can I say?"
You can do the following (some things are more obvisou that others):
"Call xxx" - preforms the standard call a contact. The only difference is that the first time you say a contact name you have to select which of their numbers you wish to associated with their name.
"Call xxx, mobile" This way you are accepting they have more than one number so you could choose to say call and a different phone type I assume.
"Call xxx, on speakerphone" Well this one is what started this thead in the first place.
"Redial" Another pretty obvious one really.
"Find xxx in xxx" Find something somewhere.
"Find Weather in xxx" like Siri on iOS proving you weather info.
"Open xxx" or "Start xxx" Enables opening an app handsfree. This works well with "Hey DJ" which is a handsfree music player. (Nice!).
"Text xxx" I like this one, as it enables you to text someone handsfree.
During a call you can start speach and say "Call" to call another person or "Press" to press a number.
Hope this helps those that haven't or don't want to listen to the "What can I say?" response.
This is based on using a Nokia Lumia in the UK.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Auto-Answer Bug

My At&t Samsung Galaxy S3 automatically picks up incoming calls and enables the speaker while it's sitting on my desk. I will have the phone on silent, and all of a sudden at 7:00 in morning, I hear a telemarketer saying "HELLO?, HELLO?"...I know this sounds strange, because I have only read about a handful of people with this issue, but it is a valid issue that needs to be resolved... Hopefully with your help.
I am not new to smartphones or Android, so I tried whatever you can imagine. I know that Android has a few auto-answer features available, so I made sure all of the settings that have to with automatically answering calls are disabled.
Anyone else experiencing similar issues, or willing to help with this issue, please post. Thanks guys!
(fyi..I have Hard Reset the device twice)
Settings - language and input - voice cmd for apps off.

Not only saying "answer" but most background noise will pick up an incoming call. It's pretty sensitive and there's lots of background noise that could actually "answer" the phone and cause it to pick up/connect. Nice feature, but it's too sensitive for my liking. Had to disable it even though I frequently used it for the camera app. (saying cheese, or shoot will take pictures)
Samsung s3
Yeah, that was my problem. I didn't say answer or anything like it, and it would just pick up the call. The shoot feature can still be enabled without enabling the answer option, I use it quite often. Thanks

Had the same problem! Hopefully, this works. It was periodic so I was concerned about going into store and not being able to replicate. Given this proposed solution, I'm amazed that other forums indicated ATT customer service is asking people to send back their phones for inspection?!!

What my settings are:
From the Phone Settings menu: Call Settings - Accessory Settings for Call:
Automatic Answering IS selected (“Only operates with a connected headset)
Problem is the phone is answering when NO headset (wired or bluetooth) is connected (bluetooth is off).
When I turn off the settings the phone does not answer automatically - However, when I'm driving I like using a wired headset and the autoanswer feature works great then. Just wne I unplug the headset the phone continues with auto answer.
Something that may be related - I have a PayPal credit card reader. It does not work with the phone. I called PayPal tech support to sleuth out the problem and they thought the read was faulty, sent me another, and I have the same result: phone does not recognize the device. My wifes phone is the same Samsung SIII and that headset jack does not work correctly with the reader.
However, the Square D reader does work.
I would fix permissions
I just ran into a guy who was having this same exact issue with his S3, and I went into these settings and toggled it ON, and that got it to stop. He had it off the whole time, but it was still doing it. I turned cmd on, and it stopped it. Very strange.

Hi, can you check if the hear phone work fine? I suggest you to carry your phone to assistance workshop. Regards.
In your dialler type in ##634# and check the issues there, Then you can send off for repair through Nokias website etc.
Might be a long shot, but worth trying:
When you call someone, check incall volume (WP has 2 different volumes, normal 0-30 and incall 0-10). Just push volume up button when you've started the call and make sure it isn't on 0.

Volume reduces significantly if video calls interrupted by cell phone calls

Hi Guys,
I have a peculiar problem. I run Android version 10 on One Plus 7T Version 10.3.2.HD65AA, Model HD1901
I do a lot of video calls on my job . When I am on a video call on a loud speaker and it is interrupted by cell phone call, even if i accept or reject the cell phone call, my loudspeaker volume significantly reduces to be inaudible levels .The volume is maximum , but its inaudible. I have to disconnect the video call and restart the phone to be able to converse on loud speaker. This is very irritating and affecting my job. I have tried to search a lot and have not found any effective answer . This happens even with headphones .
I notice this typically on whatsapp video call and browser based video calls like doxy.me. With zoom and google meet, i am logged out if i accept the cell phone call, so i have to rejoin the meetings and the sound level is audible.
I would really appreciate any piece of advice on solving this issue as its interfering with my job, besides being a nuisance.
PS : I have had to factory reset my phone twice recently for other reasons as below and it still has not solved this issue .
1. I had missing icons in my top shelf in contact app ( plus sign , delete button , hamburger bottom) and file app (hamburger sign , find button and delete bin) after one particular update
2. Had notification problems which again needed factory reset
Thank you all in advance

BUG: Phone speakers won't work after video calling
Device: Oneplus 7T on 10.0.9HD65AA
How to reproduce:
1. Video call using facebook messenger or similar app
2. Play music or video thru speakers, they won't work
3. Restart phone, speaker will work again
*note: there is a faint sound coming from the earpiece, like when you're calling someone

My problem could be this bug that u reported. Did they reply back to you?
I just had this happen when using MS Teams on a conference call. I had speakerphone enabled, and a call came in. I declined the call, but the Teams call switched to the earpiece (which was of lower volume). To fix, I just switched from Speaker, to Device and then back to Speaker. This happens on AOSP (on my OnePlus 5T) as well.
I don't think it's an Oxygen problem, but it's something that can likely be fixed if they know about it.

After installing AOSP on the 7T, this continues to happen with Microsoft Teams meetings when I have speaker enabled, receive a phone call and decline it, and it switches automatically to earpiece.
The solution of switching to earpiece in Teams and then back to speaker fixes it. All without disconnecting from the meeting.

You're welcome. It's more of a workaround because it seems audio routing is just wonky in Android. I'm not sure if iOS does this but I can test that later with wife's phone.

Yep! Same here, MS Teams meeting, BT headset, dropped incoming call to voicemail and meeting volume became inaudible, so I had to drop and reconnect. Very inconvenient, especially because I was the meeting's host. I will try to switch audio device in Teams next time, kudos for that!
