Volume reduces significantly if video calls interrupted by cell phone calls - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

Hi Guys,
I have a peculiar problem. I run Android version 10 on One Plus 7T Version 10.3.2.HD65AA, Model HD1901
I do a lot of video calls on my job . When I am on a video call on a loud speaker and it is interrupted by cell phone call, even if i accept or reject the cell phone call, my loudspeaker volume significantly reduces to be inaudible levels .The volume is maximum , but its inaudible. I have to disconnect the video call and restart the phone to be able to converse on loud speaker. This is very irritating and affecting my job. I have tried to search a lot and have not found any effective answer . This happens even with headphones .
I notice this typically on whatsapp video call and browser based video calls like doxy.me. With zoom and google meet, i am logged out if i accept the cell phone call, so i have to rejoin the meetings and the sound level is audible.
I would really appreciate any piece of advice on solving this issue as its interfering with my job, besides being a nuisance.
PS : I have had to factory reset my phone twice recently for other reasons as below and it still has not solved this issue .
1. I had missing icons in my top shelf in contact app ( plus sign , delete button , hamburger bottom) and file app (hamburger sign , find button and delete bin) after one particular update
2. Had notification problems which again needed factory reset
Thank you all in advance

I did update to open beta 3. Unfortunately that has not helped.. The volume still went down when the phone call came.
This is frustrating honestly.
Thank you for your help though.

BUG: Phone speakers won't work after video calling
Device: Oneplus 7T on 10.0.9HD65AA
How to reproduce:
1. Video call using facebook messenger or similar app
2. Play music or video thru speakers, they won't work
3. Restart phone, speaker will work again
*note: there is a faint sound coming from the earpiece, like when you're calling someone
Already reported this to OnePlus. Very frustrating bug.

My problem could be this bug that u reported. Did they reply back to you?

I just had this happen when using MS Teams on a conference call. I had speakerphone enabled, and a call came in. I declined the call, but the Teams call switched to the earpiece (which was of lower volume). To fix, I just switched from Speaker, to Device and then back to Speaker. This happens on AOSP (on my OnePlus 5T) as well.
I don't think it's an Oxygen problem, but it's something that can likely be fixed if they know about it.

After installing AOSP on the 7T, this continues to happen with Microsoft Teams meetings when I have speaker enabled, receive a phone call and decline it, and it switches automatically to earpiece.
The solution of switching to earpiece in Teams and then back to speaker fixes it. All without disconnecting from the meeting.

So this did work for me. Today when the volume reduced after a phone call during my zoom meeting, I plugged in my ear phones and then removed them after 2 min, the volume was back to full and audible.
Thanks a lot for this tip. It's a life saver for me. Really appreciate it.

You're welcome. It's more of a workaround because it seems audio routing is just wonky in Android. I'm not sure if iOS does this but I can test that later with wife's phone.

Yep! Same here, MS Teams meeting, BT headset, dropped incoming call to voicemail and meeting volume became inaudible, so I had to drop and reconnect. Very inconvenient, especially because I was the meeting's host. I will try to switch audio device in Teams next time, kudos for that!

Speaker making hissing / crackling sounds during sporadic calls

I ordered a Galaxy Nexus from Clove, and oddly enough I have not experienced the volume bug issue as of yet.
I am however having some issues with weird static / hissin / crackling noises being emitted from the speaker when I make or receive calls.
I can make 5-6 calls in a row without the issue occuring, then suddenly while dialing the same number for the seventh time (voice mail to not drive friends nuts ) the noises will commence immediately.
If I put the call on loud-speaker, the noises disappear instantly, and reappear when I turn off the loud-speaker. As soon as I end the call, the noises stop as well.
Also sometimes immediately after a call, the static / hissing noises will commence for 2-3 seconds, then stop.
Have anyone experienced anything similar? My guess is faulty hardware and that I have to return my phone? :/
I seem to get a quick static "pop" immediately as a call is being connected.
Not an OMG SHOWSTOPPER but kind of annoying. Perhaps it will be fixed in a future update.
I have a pop sound. What network are you on? I bought from Clove too and very much have Ghost SAV. I use Orange no problem but GiffGaff which uses O2 is affected. 900 GSM 2G is the issue and orange does not use it AFAIK.
The Pop occurs when I tap the screen. It is very faint. Then if I do nothing then after 5 seconds it pops again. If I pinch rather than tap then it doesn't do it.
The Pop is from the rear big speaker, not the ear peice

And your in the USA didn't think it would affect us, Where did you buy from ?
This is more than a "soft pop". The static/hissing noises I am experiencing are loud enough to make it impossible to hear what the recipient of the call is saying. Only solution is to hang up and re-dial.
Only happens every once in a while, but definitely a "showstopper" in regards to rendering the phone useless for like 20% of the calls

Have you worked out why this is happening?
I've had this problem with my GN too from Clove.co.uk, using GiffGaff network in the UK. I can pretty much replicate this problem every time I make a call - does the proximity sensor trigger the crackling noise? It does in my case.
I sent my phone back to Clove a few months ago, who sent it back to Samsung. They appeared not to do anything, flash the phone with their own version of firmware (removing my yakju build) and getting back to me 3 weeks later. I wasnt happy. In any case, I've put it back to yakju and the problem is still there. Love the phone, but dont need the hassle of being without a smart phone for a few weeks again. Urgh.
Anyone else had this?
EDIT: This seems to have been fixed in 4.0.4 (IMM76D)

in call volume over headset too low

Anyone notice that the incall volume is too low? I noticed this when I was listening to Pandora in my car with the AUX input. A call comes in, I can barely hear the caller even with the incall volume at 100. I pump up the stereo to be able to hear, then the call ends, and I have Pandora blasting my ears off.
Tried apps, the service menu isnt the same as I've seen online in other posts, so frustrated......

Hey babokd,
Though this is my first post on XDA, I have been "trolling" quite a while and sucking up all the useful information I can. That said, this is the first time that I think I may have an answer. I hope this helps.
Bottom Line: If you have Google Voice installed, try uninstalling it and then make a call.
I will offer the troubleshooting I went through below so that anyone reading this can guage the validity of this and provide better commentary. I am not half as technically smart as the rest of the people here!
I have been having the same issue with my T-Mobile SGSII. I went through great lengths to figure it out. I noticed that on my phone the volume rocker works during calls to turn up and down when connected to auxillary and on speaker. However, the volume does not actually change.
I believe this issue stems with the KL1 update that I obtained through Samsung Kies. I reverted back to stock and the volume worked fine. I updated again to the KL1 update and reloaded all my apps, etc. Volume was broke again! (note: I did not install Google Voice when I reverted back to stock, so this could be an issue in the stock version as well).
As you suggested about the service menu... I am not sure if this is a KL1 issue, but on my T-Mobile variant of the SGSII (T989), the service codes that a lot of people are talking about do not work as well. It says "menu does not exist" after entering the codes.
In attempt to find a better answer for the T-Mobile variant, I updated to KL1 and installed all my apps one by one, but making a phone call after each app was installed. In my case, I found the culprit:
Google Voice
As opposed to other posts that I have seen saying Google Voice helps increase the call volume, I suggest that it does not. On the contrary, it makes the volume stick at low volume with no way to turn it up in speaker or auxillary. I uninstalled Google Voice and voila!, volume works again.
After all of this, I will still note that my SGSII volume is still not at the level I want during calls, but it is a whole lot more acceptable. Unfortunately, I can't use Google Voice for my calls now because I have it uninstalled just so I can make calls while driving.
I hope this was semi-insightful and helps you and others. At the very least, I hope someone else that is more tech-saavy chimes in!
Do any options help in the call settings like hearing aid or TTY? Seems like these might affect the volume output.
I was just on a call and the volume seemed to be max on the earpiece. Pressing the volume switch shows the increase and decrease as pressed but the output volume stayed at max. I made a second call and the problem went away. Not sure what the deal is, maybe related to the rom i am using (beastmod)
Are you running a custom rom or stock? Most custom roms I have run are too loud and I end up having the volume between half way which is nice to have wiggle room.
I am running.

Hi bigcletus and DensoYamaha41,
I am not sure if your response was to mine or the OP, but I will provide info in my case anyway.
I wish I had more time to post more information in my original response. In my case, I am only rooted and using the latest superuser. I have the stock ROM.
When I was troubleshooting this issue, I did go into settings to change hearing aid, etc., but that did not help. The only thing that helped was removing Google Voice.
It does seem to be an app incompatibility issue because when I end the call with Google Voice, the "hang up" sound played by the dialer app is really loud. When I turn the volume down and hang up, the volume of the "hang up" sound is really low. The actual in call volume does not change.
I do plan to run a custom rom someday, but I literally just got the Galaxy SII. I like to play with the original for a while before I change over.
If the OP has the same setup as me, I believe Google Voice is the culprit. For anyone out there reading this, do you have the the following: Google Voice installed on the T-Mo variant of SGSII and running rooted stock ROM with the KL1 update? If so, are you running into a volume issue as the OP stated?

New update voice issues.

We finally have our watches updated with the long waited 1.4 internal speaker enable firmware.
I was so excited to side-load the update to my watch and seeing the new features activated, but with more usage to the watch/phone (note5) I started getting frustrated.
Phone calls cannot be received (heard or voice out) from phone if bluetooth (Play phone audio on watch) is selected. (unlike my previous iWatch)
2nd flaw is the strange behaviour using Facebook messenger calling when audio is diverted to watch, but this time the calls fail.
I thought i would see if its only me facing this, is it the combination of my phone/ watch misfit? or its the update?
I have already factory reset my watch, to no avail.
Please share your experiences guys.
For me this works super cool, no problem. Speaker is very loud and clear. I use it 50% volume at home, whitch is enough.

When you accept phone call on a phone voice is automatically directed through phone's earpiece. When you accept it on the watch, voice goes through the watch.
You can also switch voice direction during call using button having BT icon within in-call screen. This is how it works for me on Nexus 5x and I find it quite consistent.

Unfortunately answering the call from the screen doesn't activate the ear speaker in my case, but I can activate the loud speaker!

Answering the call from the watch screen will answer on the watch. To me that is as expected. If you want to answer it on the phone use the phone to answer instead of watch.

I guess it's dependent on a device type, Android version it is running and most importantly a dialer app that it is running.
I can imagine devices having custom dialer supplied by a vendor that significantly differs from the standard Android one could yield different results.
Anybody else encountered FB messenger crash?
I'm facing very serious problems while trying to use HWatch to make/answer calls.
1. Without activating "Play phone audio on watch" everything works as before (no way to answer the call without pulling the phone). Somehow expected behaviour.
2. When I activate "Play phone audio on watch", I can answer the call on watch and apparently it thinks the call is going normally. Byt nothing can be heard on either side of the call. On phone the in-call UI is also displayed and no sounds played or recorded.
3. What's even worse, when I conventionally answer the call on my phone, it's somehow answered also on watch, with result being similar to 2 - no voice whatsover on either device - for about 10 seconds. After that the call is hung up on watch and starts to be hearable on phone. This is very annoying.
I admit, I have an old Samsung Galaxy SII running SlimKat 4.4.4 (which should include standard AOSP dialer). Maybe it has an old version of Blutooth or something screwed elsewhere. But for me the new 1.4 functions are now plain unusable.
Edit: Point 3 somehow fixed (or demonstrates randomly). But still: no audio stream between phone and watch.

Caller doesn't hear

I have Note 4 AT&T 910a. The caller barley hears me when I make or receive calls. I need to put my phone on speaker for the caller to to hear me better. When I make a voice recording I hear my recording but not much. Can I boost up the volume in this area. Please help.
For those who are having this problem and looking for someone to reply because no one has replied, I will tell you the things I have done after doing some research on the web:
1. I made a recording with the Voice Recorder-about 10 seconds. I hear the sound but very low.
2. I put the phone in 'Safe Mode' to make sure no app is creating the issue and
tried the Voice Recorder again-about 10 seconds. Same I hear but low.
Now what?? I don't know...Searching

1. You can try factory reset and see if this improve mic.
2. Try to clean microphone.
3. Hardware issue. You need to replace microphone.
Good luck
Note from Note V
After much probing I found that my two microphone holes near the usb charging port were 95% stopped up causing very little sound going in. So
I took a needle and carefully cleaned up the holes and called my son and he heard my call perfectly.
Mission complete. Thanks guys for your input and help.

Microphone problem when I use speaker phone - S9

Hello,
The microphone doens't work on my S9 when I use the speaker phone. The people do not hear me. I have no problem in normal call mode.
I tested to call in "safe mode" but the problem always appears.
Thank you for your help!
No idea?

Thank you!
Up
m also having the same problem, but also While video recording
Same problem here. Only when HD calling is enabled. If you disable HD calling, the problem should go away. I'm hoping the first software update fixes it. Just to be clear the problem is that the other person cannot hear you when on speakerphone. You should be able to hear them clearly and have no idea there is a problem unless they tell you that you sound muffled or like you are underwater. Turn off HD calling on Verizon and it goes away.
Thank you for your solution. I disabled the HD calling ("4G calling" in French) and the voice can be heard now. But the quality is very very bad! It is scandalous for a phone of this price!
Is there an other solution to improve the microphone quality during a call with speakerphone?
Thank you!
HD Calling?
I have the same issue, but have no idea how to disable HD Calling ( I'm on Sprint BTW). These minor issues are ticking me off; I've already had for factory reset once due to Camera settings crashing the app.. . now this nonsense. Phone isn't even 14 days out of the box, and its DEFINITELY not an "third party-app" issue. Bad time to switch from iPhone, huh? This is unacceptable for a $300 phone, nonetheless a $1K phone.
Hello, I have the same issue, on VoIP apps like WhatsApp as well. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...rphone-loudness-clarity-t3746298#post78757253
Does anyone experience the same problem on custom ROM?

Same problem here, first on Note7, now on Note9. Disabling HD calling did not fix it for me.
any solution for it ? please post solution
I've discovered the issue is that the phone attempts to mute your microphone while the speaker is playing sounds. (If you're on the phone with someone they have background noise or are talking) and your phone's microphone attempts to lower the sensitivity so that the person whom you are speaking with doesn't hear an echo of themselves on their end. If they aren't making a sound then you can be heard normally. This is the downfall of my S9+ because the speaker and microphone are right beside each other.
