Can only access bootloader, bootlooped, RUU didn't work. - HTC One V

A week or so after upgrading from Pacman v15 to v15.3 I began having my phone drop into roaming for a really long time. I restarted my phone to see if it would fix the issue, and I got a bootloop, nothing past the white HTC screen I had issues flashing to fastboot, so I got a new unlocktoken and now I can flash. At least... it will send, write, and "okay" me on it, but then nothing will work. I will "successfully" flash a recovery (i've tried twrp and cwm) and then when I try and get into them through bootloader it just sends me on the same old bootloop.
Please help... I guess I should flash an RUU but I've never done that before, and I'm curious as to whether or not this will even work since nothing else is "taking."
UPDATE... DL'ed the RUU and followed directions of...
flashing recovery_signed.img
fastboot oem lock
then running RUU in fastboot usb.
Everything SEEMED to take fine, and then when I go to reboot I get a loop again. grr...

Stuck in a boot loop

Very strange. My phone was working perfectly yesterday. But this morning when I powered it on, it's stuck in a boot loop (going over and over to the first splash screen).
I can't get it into recovery either, which also seems odd.
I'm sure I can get it out of it by flashing a ROM or perhaps factory reset (goes into hboot fine). Will experiment a bit later (no time this morning) to see if I can get it out of the loop without flashing a ROM though - e.g. I will probably try just flashing Clockwork via fastboot.
Just putting this up there for info. I flashed a new radio yesterday, but as I said the phone was working perfectly, so I don't see why that should have anything to do with it.
I had issues flashing CWM recovery via fastboot... I was able to "fastboot boot recovery.img" From there, you can flash a ROM with ROM Manager and reflash your recovery.
Let me know if you run into the same issues.

You might have to flash a rom via bootloader/fastboot. Just remember you can't flash one with a older hardboot version. If you have the eng bootloader, you shouldn't have a problem. What a pain though, I hope it isn't the radio either as I flashed a different one earlier tonight also, lol!
Crap, I flashed the same damned radio as you did too. Ha! Although, I do find this ironic after our little debate about the forum merge yesterday I'm sure you can try reflashing recovery via fastboot and if that fails reflash stock rom through fastboot. Its not bricked for sure...
Did you reboot (properly) after you flashed the new radio? (i.e. after it powered on once).
I did worry that anyone with radio s-off will have issues like this when they tried to flash a new radio.

He must have had a bad flash... I flashed the same radio with no problems and several powering off attempts and reboots, checking compatiblity, and backups. No issues and have already reflashed a few roms and kernels. The radios are safe... at least the lastest desire z one from Eygpt and the two stock tmobile usa ones are too.
I never did a second reboot after flashing the new radio, but it did reboot after flashing it from fastboot of course, and it worked perfectly for the rest of the day (I'm positive I was getting a better signal).
I just tried fastboot to flash CW recovery - same problem (stuck in boot loop).
I then tried fasboot boot with the CW recovery image - same problem.
Then I used fastboot to reflash the radio. It worked ! The phone is back up and running.
So that's odd. Could just be a bad flash, as has been suggested ?

Sounds like it... I've seen this happen on some old WM phones before.
Well my phone has exactly the same problem this morning after being left powered off overnight.
I tried flashing the recovery image and radio image again, via fastboot, like last time, but it didn't help.
Going to reflash the stock ROM. I'm starting to think there is something wrong with my phone and it's going to have to go back
Shizzer! Again? You went back to stock after using Visionary didn't you?.. Done Rage from clean yeah?

No I didn't use Visionary lol.
Yesterday, after first having the problem, all I did was flash CW recovery and flash the new (Egypt) radio again. Then the phone was back to life, I rebooted it several times and all was 100%.
This morning though it was stuck again but flashing CW recovery and the radio (both via Fastboot) didn't help at all.
So I've just flashed the stock UK/Europe ROM. Will root again via rage, install ROM Manager, flash Clockwork and restore the nandroid backup I did last night.
I will stay back on the stock ROM/radio combination for a bit because I'm starting to wonder if my phone has a problem. No-one else has reported an issue with this radio.
Edit - back up and running fine now after doing the above.
I'm still newbie in these phone things but really sounds like something is corrupting your files.
Device working perfectly after a flash and getting into boot loop later sounds like a hard ware problem to me. (also I have understood that /system is r-only if you don't remount it?)

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm going to stick with the stock radio (even though it's worse than the newer one) for a while to check that the problem goes away. Then I will probably try flashing it again to see if the problem comes straight back again.
I also did wonder about whether I can just "dd" the new radio to the correct partition instead of using fastboot to flash it, though I'm not going to do that unless someone can confirm that's ok.

[Q] Phone boots only to fastboot, cant even access recovery

Hello,
I don't know exactly what happened, but at some point last week my phone started only booting to fastboot. I can't even access recovery, even after flashing a new one (clockworkmod touch, and then regular).
What is going on? Is the phone a complete brick?
Thanks in advance!

Use a RUU, then S-OFF and flash recovery.
I cannot use an RUU, since I am stuck in the fastboot/Hboot screen, which the utility does not recognize... :-(
Plan B?
Boot your phone in fastboot-mode and running RUU.exe on your PC should work completely fine.
But you asked for a Plan B, here you have one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10509780&postcount=102
First, thanks for the responses!
I don't know why, but the RUU did not recognize the phone in fastboot mode...
In either case, I followed the instructions in "Plan B", with the following RUU:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed
The problem is that during stage [6] SYSTEM, I get "Fail-PU" and am told that "partition update failed" (I am guessing that PU = partition update) and am asked to reboot.
Should I try a different RUU? something else?
I am happy to say that although the RUU did not work and I don't know why, I tried again flashing clockworkmod through fastboot, and now I am able to get to recovery!
I will try to install a ROM and see how it goes. Thanks to both for the help!

[Q] Is it possible to Recover my DInc?

I hope someone in this community is able to help. I've already been scouring Google this morning for people with a similar issue and haven't been successful in getting my phone to come back so I suspect there may be a hardware issue.
Here's a summary of the problem:
My phone shutdown this morning while I was listening to a podcast. It got stuck in a boot loop at the splash screen, constantly rebooting itself. A battery pull would not solve the problem. I was able to get it into HBOOT (version 0.92) but when I tried going into recovery from there, It got stuck on the splash screen (no looping). Before all this I had been running Nils Business Gingersense for quite a while and things were working fine, in case anyone needs that detail.
After failing to boot to recovery, here are some of the things I have tried to fix this issue:
1. Factory reset in HBOOT
2. Flashed RUU 2.2 and then tried RUU 2.3.4 through HBOOT. Though neither of these would get the phone to come up, the splash screen reboots stopped and the phone just freezes in splash screen now (over 30 minutes with no change).
3. Tried to reflash CWM 5.0.2.0 through Fastboot. Although the phone is recognized by 'fastboot device', it says 'remote: not allowed' when try to flash the .IMG file.
4. Tried to flash an older CWM recovery from when I originally rooted my phone --same 'not allowed' error
5. Ran the official RUU for Froyo on my PC and it looked promising but I never got past the splash screen afterward a reboot.
6. I don't know a ton about ADB but ADB does not recognize my device even though Fastboot does.
At this point I'm not sure what else to try. It seems promising that I can get into HBOOT and that Fastboot will recognize my phone but what can I do with that now?
Thanks for any ideas you might have.
Have you tried flashing cwm thru hboot as a PB31IMG.zip? http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip. If that dosent work you could try to update hboot to 1.02 and htcdev unlock it. This will allow extended fastboot commands. You can do this on the htcdev website. Or you could downgrade hboot to the 0.77 engineering bootloader http://dinc.does-it.net/Hboots/ENG_Hboot_0.77/PB31IMG.zip which basicly does the same thing, and might be a better option than upgrading. You are s-off right?
Yes, I still have S-OFF. I did try flashing several recoveries through hboot and they all acted like they updated fine but I wasn't able to boot into any of them because I kept getting frozen at the white screen after choosing recovery from hboot. I will try another hboot and see if that makes any difference. Thanks.
Cmlusco, I tried the CWM version you posted with hboot .92 and .77 but had no luck. I also tried walking through the hboot upgrade steps on the htcdev site but I couldn't get the RUU exe to find my phone. This is odd because an older RUU found the phone just fine earlier today.

[Q] Help with firmware flash screw-up

I bought an AT&T M8 on eBay a few months ago. My carrier is T-Mobile. Everything actually worked fairly well but there are a few nagging issues. No OTA updates, MMS doesn't work, etc.
I did some research on the forums here and elsewhere and the solution seemed to be flashing the phone to a stock T-Mobile firmware. Tonight I set out to do that.
I downloaded and paid for Sunshine. Installed with no issues.
I installed HTC Synch and ADB on my PC
I flashed CWM recovery onto the phone using fastboot. TWRP wouldn't work for some reason.
I used CWM to install SuperSU to root the phone.
I used fastboot to change the CID to T-MOB010.
I used scotty1223's instructions here to change the MID from 0P6B12000 to 0P6B13000.
There were some false steps along the way but I think everything worked fine to this point.
Next I used fastboot to flash the firmware I found here. At this point I don't even remember why I decided that was the right choice.
The firmware flash failed the first time but apparently that isn't uncommon. I ran it a second time and it seemed to succeed. I rebooted the phone using fastboot. When it comes up I see the HTC logo on a white background and I can still hear the AT&T "chimes" but I don't see the AT&T globe. And that's it. The phone won't finish booting. I can reboot into the fastboot menu but Recovery just gives me an red triangle with an exclamation point. ADB can't communicate with the phone anymore. So I feel like I'm stuck.
Any advice on what to do next?

check that your cid and mid are now correct for T-Mo by doing a fastboot get var all.
Firmware you flashed is fine.
your phone is stuck in a bootloop which isn't un-common, due to the rom version and firmware version mis-maych I expect.
red triangle is stock recovery, so that's also normal.
at this point, rather than trying to reboot the phone, you should of just booted back to the bootloader fastboot usb mode and run the T-mo RUU, the first thing the RUU does anyway is boot your phone to the bootloader anyway, your just manually doing the first part yourself.
Thanks a lot for the help. A couple of follow-up questions for you. Adb/fastboot can't connect to the phone now. I've tried at the HTC white screen and the bootloader fastboot screen. It just says '< waiting for device >'.
I'm also having a problem with the RUU. When I accept the license agreement on the install it seems to crash. No errors but nothing else happens and the process isn't running. I'm going to try that on a different machine and see what happens. Thanks again.
Another update. The RUU install works fine on a different machine. I think that was a Windows 8.1 issue. The problem now is that the RUU can't see the phone either. So I can't get a PC to see the phone over USB at all. I assume that's because of the bootloop. Is there anything I can do from the bootloader to fix this?
Some progress. The RUU finally found the phone. I guess that was a timing issue. Now it seems to be stuck at 'Updating.... (1/7) Sending....'. It's been doing that for over an hour.
Finally, success!! I found a Reddit thread about the RUU failure. It recommended finding the ROM.zip that gets dropped in a temp folder by the installer, renaming that to 0P6BIMG.zip, moving it to the sdcard, and rebooting. It worked like a charm. Fastboot found the zip automatically and prompted me to install it. It took a little while to update but now I have a stock T-Mobile HTC One.
please help

my phone has exactly the same problem but i really dont know what to do from here

Fastboot shows ??????????

I recently flashed the newest CM Nightly. When I booted the phone up, I was having too many bugs for my taste, so I decided to flash back to my previous rom Pure Nexus. When I did that, everything went well according to the recovery. However, when I booted the phone, it was stuck in the boot animation. So then I decided I'd flash back to stock and start all over from the beginning. Brought up the bootloader and prepared the whole fastboot thing only to get this message:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot devices
???????????? fastboot
I reflashed CM to see if I could get my phone to work at least and it would boot up, allowing me to use basic phone functions, but apparently my mobile data isn't working.
Now I can't do anything in fastboot. What did I do and can I fix it? Thank you all for the help in advance.
Edit - I was able to get it to register in fastboot somehow, so I tried flashing the latest stock firmware. It appeared to work perfectly. Now when I boot up the phone, I get past the boot animation and an error pops up saying "system UI has stopped" and won't go away. Now when I attempt to get fastboot working again, I get the ?????????. WTF did I do? Is my phone FUBAR?
Firstly reinstall fastboot.
Secondly flash fully stock again, latest version.
If you flash everything again everything should be OK.
Thank you for the reply. I did what you said and again everything appeared to flash correctly. However, once I got past the boot animation again, the "System UI has stopped" message popped up and I can't do anything with the phone.
Should I lock the bootloader to make it completely stock again? Keep flashing until it works?
Okay so I decrypted my data partition and now it works perfectly. Weird. Thanks for your help anyway.
