I just updated to 4.2 and I keep getting a Camera error - Can't connect to the camera. Any idea how I can resolve this?
How did you update to 4.2? Go in settings, apps, all apps, camera, clear data. Reboot.

I downloaded the ota file and updated via teamwin recovery. The weird thing is that camera is not listed in all apps. If I restart my phone then the camera will work for a while, but then it'll start giving me the same error again.
Gallery then. If it still doesn't work, go in recovery and wipe data/factory reset.

Boot in CWM recovery and try reflashing this zip...
Try to boot up in CWM recovery and flash the camera zip and maybe the fresh install will fix it for you.
Here is the link for the 4.2 Camera.zip http://www34.zippyshare.com/v/63944821/file.html
I tried to do a factory reset, but when I stored my apps and data using Titanium Backup, the error kept popping up.
I also tried to flash the 4.2 Camera.zip. That totally messed up the camera and gallery. Keeps force closing.
Anything else I can try?
Turns out it was an app causing the problem. I have this app called iseeyou which keeps the screen on when you are looking at it. I guess it uses the front camera to sense your face and it some how makes it so you can't access the camera. It was working fine with 4.1.2, but I guess it's not compatible with 4.2.
This is why if you want to find the cause for X issue that you're not sure whether it's the rom or apps or hardware, you don't restore loads of apps at the same time.

Today I read a little guide from youmobile, about installing the new camera in android 4.2. (cant post link since im new)
I did everything except I forgot to backup first. Now everytime i start up the phone, open camera or open gallery it comes "Gallery has crashed".
Anyone knows what I might have done wrong? I used ROM Manager -> Boot into clockwordmod recovery -> flash zip -> and i chose the zip.
The camera is working trough apps like Snapchat, but not trough the stock app.
I could also use the stock 4.1.2 gallery and camera .apk so I atleast can get back my camera.
I am running on 4.1.2 takju nexus, with Air Kernel 3.0.46.
Please help.

try this zip. it's fixed so that everything should work.

if you still get crashes, you may want to reflash your Rom (without wiping).
also try fixing permissions, either in clockwork or rom manager

Thanks. I'm new tho, so what do you mean by fixing permissions. Could you give me step by step?
Go into recovery(CWM) and select the fix permissions option (might be under advanced)
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
Installing the .zip file already fixes permissions. Have you tried renaming the apk to Gallerygoogle2.apk in your preferred file manager?
second post, the link works perfectly.
Thanks!
I have the t mobile one (SGH-T999) and i wiped everything and installed the latest cm10.1, but it seems that any rom based off of CM also kills my camera but any other rom allows it to work. CM makes it so any camera app crashes even before i see anything out of the camera lens. what should i do?
same issue here. Stable CM10, camera throws "can't connect to camera" error. Latest CM10.1 nightly, same issue. Latest Jellybam, same issue.
Wicked has functional camera, but I'd like to stay as close to basic AOSP/AOKP/CM as possible.
Anyone found a solution? Anyone not having this issue?
I suppose wiping camera/gallery was the first thing you tried.
Yeah, sure was. So far I have...
Cleared gallery cache/data from "manage apps"
Wiped data, cache, dalvik cache from CWM touch recovery 6.0.2.3
fix permissions from CWM touch recovery 6.0.2.3
installed every CM10/AOKP based rom I can find twice, wiping data/cache each time
tried other camera apps (none work, all have similar errors regarding inability to connect to camera)
It doesn't seem like this is a common issue. I'd be very convinced my hardware is simply broken, except that the camera works in the stock samsung rom, wicked, and pretty much everything build on touchwiz/samsung.
possibly a kernel issue?
have a look at this thread. i've been having camera problems with all versions of CyanogenMod that i've tried on my Galaxy S III and this latest possible fix is giving me hope. i'm restoring back to stock via ODIN right now and am going to pull the stock version of SlimISP_ZH.bin from /data and attempt to drop it into my CM10 image to see what might work.
Dont use the one that says it has photosphere working. Cause it doesnt work. You need to use a 4.1 gallery2.apk file.
I am kind of stuck and have searched endlessly...
I am rooted and running AOKP - d2att (4.2.1 JOP40D) Build 1.17.2013
AT&T Samsung Galaxy SIII i747
I am trying to update the Rom - Everytime I have updated, I get the "unfortunately, android keyboard (aosp) has stopped" error. I just restore a backup and go to my older version again.
I was preparing to make another backup and noticed I'm out of space, my System Data is taking up 7,938MB!!! I have no idea why or how it got so out of control. I attempted to just do a Factory Reset, it looked as if it worked... however nothing was wiped.
Right now I'm just at a crossroads. I like the custom Rom (minus some serious flaws) but want to be able to update and have some free space. But I'm starting to think returning it to the stock firmware and just settling might be easier?
Any ideas on where I can clear up some space or what I can do to battle the AOSP error? Is there another Rom that may be a better choice, iI know they aren't "better" but an equal alternative maybe. I'm fairly new to all of this but have a decent understanding, I made a switch to Android after owning purely Iphones since the 3G.

Once I download the update I reboot into recovery. wipe cache and dalvik cache. I make a backup and then..
-install zip from sdcard
-choose zip from sdcard
then pick the downloaded update and then repeat the process with the gapps.
Once it loads, all my contacts and things appear there.. with the AOSP error.
I think after explaining this and reading your post, I should do a full wipe and install the newest version of the ROM. I hate to be a pest, what would be the best way to do this. I have Titanium Backup Pro. I really only care about my contacts and text messages and some apps.

You have have to flash the updated gapps if you aren't. They are made for 4.2.2 and nothing earlier. If you flash the same gapps as you flashed earlier you'll get loads of issues.

Ok, so I have ran the update gapps as well previously. A current status update. I backed up all my pictures, contacts and ran backup of system data with Titanium Pro. I wiped cache, cleared the Delvik cache, wiped data.. just realized I wasn't going into Mounts and Storage and not doing a format /system. That might explain why it was getting so massive. After doing those in the correct order, I flashed the ROM and Gapps and new Kernal. Its currently booting...
Success.. Its up and running the new Rom, however.. I have a new question. I have no apps and everything is back to how it all started. I know I can run titanium backup and restore things. But google is automatically installing my apps back one by one. There has to be a correct way to do this? I'm patiently waiting for it to install titanium so I can restore my texts and settings.

you dont have to make a backup every single time you want to update. thats whats taking up all your internal memory. i have 1 stock backup that i made the day i flashed aokp 4.1.2 and then 1 backup of my current setup. if i ever want/need to restore, i'm all set. if you want to make a backup every single time, move the older files to your PC and keep your most recent 1 or 2 on the phone. that'll give you enough space to move forward

Google restoring apps is an option you set during the one time initial setup.
you shouldn't be restoring system data, and it sounds like you're doing that. there are apps to restore texts easily. one that I use is sms backup and restore, which works well and takes maybe a minute.
it's cumbersome to remember every setting so I'd suggest writing them down or something similar.

The Gallery app is acting weird. App data keeps on increasing drastically. I noticed it yesterday that the app data was 50.2 GB. How is it possible for a device that has 8 GB of memory to have 50 GB of space for an application. Its not like the device is slowing down overall but i cant really tell although when i open application manager or storage it takes a lot of time to load.
I am not sure if this is a problem of latest rom because i noticed it just yesterday. I have disabled it for now and am using Quickpic as a gallery app. Anyone facing this issue or have a solution do comment.
its a bug in 4.2.2 official mine shows 95gb

Yea it will not affect your phone in a harmful way but when you try to install or update anything it won't let you, saying that your memory is full.
What I did was, go to Settings>Application Manager> All Applications, Select Gallery and clear all Data and Cache
After that didn't go up back for me.
If it still remains a problem either clear data/cache of gallery app and then disable it, and use app like QuickPic as your main Gallery

No not at all, if it's still a problem for you, just wipe cache/dalvik/data and reinstall the ROM you are using.

You need to reinstall the recovery with Odin and wipe everything, data/cache/dalvik and re-flash the 4.2.2 firmware so it's clean.
Then install the ROM you are using, skip this step if you are just using Stock ROM.

I am using stock rom 4.2.2. Updated it OTA. Cant i just reset it or do i have to flash the whole rom? If i have to flash the whole rom then it would be kind of u to provide me a download link as i am not aware where i could find it. But if a simple reset will solve the problem then i would appreciate it because downloading the whole rom would take time.

No you probably don't need to reflash the whole thing. Try this before resorting to that.
I'm using if you are on OTA updates, you are not rooted, so these are instructions for stock recovery :
Press Volume Up+Home+Power and hold till you see your phone's model number on your screen.
You will boot into recovery, use this carefully.
Use volume buttons to scroll up and down and power button to confirm and execute the selected command.
scroll down to wipe cache partition, press power to execute this (This will wipe all app's cache partitions)
Scroll up to reboot system now, and confirm
If you have touch custom recovery it should be similar except you wont need volume keys to scroll

Last option is to try and flash the entire firmware through Odin or if you have not rooted just take it to Samsung service, they will do it for you. Guides and links for that are in general section if you want to flash the firmware or root or your phone
@iceyhotguy If he is rooted he can take a back up of current gallery and try pushing note 3's gallery to system/app with right permissions may be that will work out wt say??a

He's not rooted, he mentioned he updated with OTA and that he has a recovery with a "dead android" (lol), that's stock Samsung recovery.
It will be easier just to re-flash the firmware than experiment with ported gallery after rooting for him
I have the same problem on my I-9082 (Grand) and my gallery was over 100 GB. I cleared catch and data, but it's increasing again, and when it gets very high, it makes my phone work very very slowly. Is it possible to replace this gallery with another version or app?
I'm using Stock ROM 4.2.2, but rooted. The same problem happens to my contacts too, but that is more delicate and less harmful to my phone.
I posted a thread before but got no responses or help so I'm trying again. My Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 has been messed up ever since I ran the 4.4.2 official update from Samsung. System apps like settings, my files, video player and other apps force close anytime I try to open them. It reboots itself after too many force closes so it's basically unusable. The only things I can do are play games and sometimes even games force close when I try to open them.
Here are all the things I've tried:
I wiped data and cache in a custom recovery.
I tried doing a full wipe and flashing a different rom.
I used odin to go back and flash the stock rom
And none of these things have worked. In all the roms I flashed on this tablet they all have force closing and constant reboot issues.
Does anybody have an idea of a possible solution? I'd like to be able to actually use my tab again.
Bump for help.
i have the same issue i asked for help a week ago but nobody seems to know how to fix it..... =(

Boot into custom recovery and "format" your data partition. Not wipe, but actually do a format. This will erase anything saved on internal sdcard also, so back up anything you want to keep.
