Today I read a little guide from youmobile, about installing the new camera in android 4.2. (cant post link since im new)
I did everything except I forgot to backup first. Now everytime i start up the phone, open camera or open gallery it comes "Gallery has crashed".
Anyone knows what I might have done wrong? I used ROM Manager -> Boot into clockwordmod recovery -> flash zip -> and i chose the zip.
The camera is working trough apps like Snapchat, but not trough the stock app.
I could also use the stock 4.1.2 gallery and camera .apk so I atleast can get back my camera.
I am running on 4.1.2 takju nexus, with Air Kernel 3.0.46.
Please help.

try this zip. it's fixed so that everything should work.

if you still get crashes, you may want to reflash your Rom (without wiping).
also try fixing permissions, either in clockwork or rom manager

Thanks. I'm new tho, so what do you mean by fixing permissions. Could you give me step by step?
Go into recovery(CWM) and select the fix permissions option (might be under advanced)
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
Installing the .zip file already fixes permissions. Have you tried renaming the apk to Gallerygoogle2.apk in your preferred file manager?
second post, the link works perfectly.
Thanks!

Hi Guys,
I update the wireless N driver for my EVO today, I follow the following thread (2nd method);
[FIX] Wireless N on Evo 4.24.651.1 ROM
I did everything with the exception of Wipe dalvik cache and cache (because I dont know how to).
After I reboot my phone and I try to enable the WIFI i get the "WIFI error message".
Any ideas on how to fix it ?
HTC EVO 2.3.3
Baseband 2.15.00.05.02
Build 4.26.651.1
Thanks for the help.
I had this error when I flashed my kernel and didn't clear all the caches in the rom manager settings. If you updated through a zip and rom manager I would try doing that.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Thanks for the reply Sp0d.
I used Titanium Backup to clear dalvik, but I still have the same error.
Can you tell me how to do it ? I root my EVO Today using unrevoked.
Thanks
reboot into recovery, and wipe dalvik, and cache, also I heard to turn off wifi before doing this also.
Question
From the Recovery Menu, which option do I need to use ?
To do it from within the recovery menu, I think you have to choose apply update from zip. But I think the file has to be called update.zip
It would probably be easier to download 'rom manager' from the market place (there is a free version) then I would download Adao file manager.
Once you get both installed, use Adao manager to browse to the download folder and select your wifi fix.zip file. It SHOULD open with rom manager and bring up the options to clear the caches and flash. Once you click that it will restart your phone into recover and flash it for you.
Hope this helps!
Which recovery are you using?
This is what I have done so far;
I download the driver bcm4329.ko (see attachment)
Unzip on the SD
Using Root Explorer I copy driver and paste on /system/lib/modules
Change the permission of 'bcm4329.ko' to 'rw-r--r--'
Clean Dalvik Using Titanium Pro
Reboot the phone
After the reboot I try to enable the WIFI and I get the "WIFI Error"
I have the custom recovery from Unrevoked.
Okay couple of issues, lets try to work them one at a time. 1st this N fix is for very specific roms. I don't see in any of the above posts exactly what you flashed.
----NOTICE----
This fix is for 4.24 sense based ROMs only using the HTC #1 kernel. The driver is kernel specfic. If you or your ROM uses a custom kernel, do NOT flash this. It will break your wifi.
It will NOT work on CM7/ASOP ROMs at all. Do NOT flash this onto a non-sense ROM. If I recall correctly, CM7 should already have Wifi N support build into the ROM. (Let me know if this isn't the case and I will look into it. EDIT: Confirmed, ASOP/CM7 has N support built in.)

So assuming that you have this on the right rom and kernel the next issue is which of the three recoveries you have. I assume you know how to boot into recovery. For Amon Ra to wipe Caches go to the wipe menu. For TWRP go to the flash zip menu and wipe is under that. For clockwork, well, I forget, but if that's what you have let me know and I'll flash it and give you directions.
I was able to clear caches using clockwork.
I re-download the file and change the permissions on it. Right now is working.
Thanks for the time and effort.
No problem. Glad I could help.
Yesterday when trying to take a picture, I noticed that it didnt look right. I uninstalled the system app camera. I thought I did a back up through titanium backup but I didn't. How can I get that back on my evo so ther camera will work again?
You will have to pull the camera apk from a stock rom and push it to the system/app folder.
I am using a snergy rom..
SERIOUSLY!? Just reflash the rom it will be there again
I have to much stuff on there. I rather just grab the apk and flash it of i can..
If you just wipe system in recovery and then reflash the ROM your data will remain intact it will only replace system. The method of pushing the apk is also easy, if you have root explorer this is much easier. I would also try just putting the apk on the sd card then simply installing it. Make sure though you pull the one from Synergy rom.
I did find a newer htc cam apk but it wouldnt install. I tried to use root explorer but i am not to familiar with it so what i did, it didnt work.
ok..I just wiped the system and reinstalling it...thanks for your help...

Getting Camera Back
If you want to get your camera back(if rooted and ROM flashed) just re-flash the rom or find another rom
I just got the 4.2.2 system update notification on my phone from Verizon. Before I install it, I wanted to make sure the 4.2 camera/gallery I installed a while back (installed from zip using CWM, renamed old cam/gallery files if I remember right) wouldn't cause the update to error out. I'm rooted and on stock 4.1.1 Build JRO03O other than the newer camera/gallery. Thanks.
you wouldnt be stock since you installed a mod, therefore the OTA would error.

Thanks, that's what I figured. I'll try to find the site that outlined what I did to install the new camera/gallery so I can reverse it.
Well, I can't find any info on how to get the old 4.1 camera/gallery back.
What I did for the 4.2 camera back in December was download the "camera.zip" file, reboot into recovery, install the zip, then reboot. Then it force closes the gallery so I used root browser to go into system>app and renamed gallery.google.odex to gallery.google.bak and then moved that file to the system folder.
I assume I need to find a 4.1 camera zip and install it, then move the above file back to system>app if the install doesn't create a new gallery.google.odex file?
Is this correct or am I way off? Anybody have a link to the 4.1 camera zip download?
Your main issue is also having a custom recovery (CWM). If you want ota (not sure why) you need to go back to stock recovery also.
good day.

I've always used the OTA update in the past with CWM without issue, I just never had a custom camera (or anything else) for previous updates. I don't really care "how" I get 4.2.2 as long as it's the official version so it's got the least chance of being buggy. What's the easiest way to get the official 4.2.2 release when rooted with 4.2 camera without loosing any phone data?
So is there nowhere to download just the camera/gallery from 4.1 to re-install?
What's the fix here so I can go to 4.2.2 without clearing phone data? Thanks.
Here is the 4.1.1 stock rooted OTA. It is a flashable zip. Flash in recovery. Wipe cache/dalvik only. Reboot then update to 4.2.2.
http://tinyw.in/FbcF
Edit: you could just pull the apk out if you wanted but I suggest just flashing the whole system.

this isnt true. you can still complete the OTA with a custom recovery. ive done it the past 2 OTAs. the problem happens when you have flashed a mod or modified a /system/ file.

Thanks. Because it's 4:30 am and I wanted to see if I could get a quick fix, I tried pulling out the gallery.apk, moving it to the app folder and it worked perfect after I renamed the 4.2 gallery.apk to gallery. The camera and gallery are back to the "old" versions and working fine.
Went ahead and ran the OTA, it failed (cache error) so I cleared cache/dalvik, rebooted and it went into "Android is upgrading...". After it was done, I went into settings to see what version it was and it was still on 4.1.1. Tried to force the system update a few times by clearing/stopping framework services and then checking for updates and finally got it to download the update.
It rebooted to install the update and TWRP opened up. I told it to install the file and it failed. Errors say:
assert failed: apply_patch_check (' /system/app/GalleryGoogle.apk.....(can't read the rest, it's off the screen).
E: Error in /cache/5939ff985946.signed-mysid-JDQ....(can't read the rest)
(Status 7)
It appears there is still "something" wrong with the gallery/camera but it's beyond skills. It's too late to mess with it any further so hopefully someone will have a suggestion to try when I wake up. If not, I guess I'll try to apply the whole 4.1.1 OTA first and see if that fixes it.
Thanks for the help thus far.
It would only take a minute or two to flash the whole file. Is like flashing a ROM

I'm in the same position. Rooted, 4.2 camera. Putting the 4.1 apk back didn't help me. Thanks for the OTA, I'm hoping that flashing with this and then with the 4.2.2 will get me upgraded without a full wipe. H/W died a few weeks ago and it's finally back to having everything loaded.
Thanks!

I Flashed the Full/Stock 4.1.1 you posted. However I still can't install 4.2.2. I get the following error (image attached).
I'm completely stuck at this point, the only thing I had done was install the 4.2 camera, and superuser, and thought that the 4.1.1 install would have "fixed" this.
Any ideas?

Can you explain this so I can be sure to do it before I end up in the same situation as the other guy? What do you mean by "updated version of your recovery"? I did a Ti Backup of all user apps + system data and saved it to the sd card before I messed with going back to the 4.1 camera. I also backed up the current ROM in CWM which rebooted into TWRP and did a Nandroid backup. Is this sufficient or is there something I need to do to make it 4.2.2 compatible? Thanks.
This is a good reminder why I shouldn't run a "custom" anything on this phone. I don't have time to keep up with how to do all of this stuff and it ends up being a mess in the end. Only reason I did the 4.2 camera was I was going on vacation and wanted to be able to take some great photosphere photos while I was there (which I did).

CWM is called a recovery. You need to get the updated version from ROM Manager or Koush's website. I recommend TWRP over CWM. You can get TWRP from Goo manager. Either way make sure you update your recovery or your will have a headache.

I am having a similar issue with the OTA update since I have the 4.2.2 camera installed as well. Is there a way to flash the update manually with CWM that will work with the camera installed?
Dear all, please refer my conversation with sotmax about why i am getting a camera failed message on V8....
Problem though, camera STILL wont work, i had stock and it worked, went to carbon rom and it didnt, i was told to wipe /sytem when i installed carbon? is that maybe the cause?
SO going to revert back to stock the go straight to V8, how do i go back to stock though?
Chaza218
Download odin installer and a stock fw my friend. Go to download mode by pressing vol down home and power and flash it
) ) ) over the air on GN2 ( ( (
Ok, i got odin ,re flashed stock, re rooted, install CWM , installed V8 and STILL the camera wont work, and i checked it when I installed root and it did work then
What is going on!
chaza218
Hmmmm....that lead to hardware my friend. Maybe the rom you flasged destroy your cam or its just quincidence and you need new cam.
A week ago my note was back for replacement as gyro sensor broje and got a new one...
) ) ) over the air on GN2 ( ( (
Cam cant be broken, when i flashed the stock rom it worked?
chaza218
then if you flashed stock and is ok wipe data factory reset with stock and flash V8 after wipe
So to check, your saying I shoudl flash back to stock, root it, install CWM, then do factory reset, wipe davlik cache, wipe /cache, then flash v8?
Should i wipe /system?
also, i have checked, the MD5 of my V8 download is correct 100%
chaza218
Yes exactly that....you dont need to root. Root is needed only if you want to keep stock.
Just flash official then do a hard reset unrooted reboot to download mode flash philz touch recovery with odin(pda) wipe everything inside recovery and flash v8.
Notice that i have done a small mistake in v8 i forgot neak kernel file so if you choose neak kernel will not be flashed. Choose redpill instead...is better. I m uloading fixed version....
) ) ) over the air on GN2 ( ( (
But dont i need to root it to install CWM ? What is philz touch recovery? i was using redpill anyhow. After i have done all of that do i then root it?
Chaza218[/QUOTE]
No need of root if you re gonna flash a rom my friend.
My rom is pre rooted so the only thing you want is a good recovery.
I m suggesting this Philz touch.
Is absolutely the best.
In this link there are all files for root and recovery.
You just skip rooting
I have also a guide of how to do it
https://www.dropbox.com/s/154r7fx8y5..._by_sotmax.zip
Unzipp it in your pc and open the read me file .
You simply flash recovery then wipe data cache and dalvik and flash rom
This has still not solved my camera issue, does ANYONE have any idea??
chaza218
Conversation was quite hard to follow, hence I have a programme questions:
1. Do you currently have a properly functioning recovery programme (whether it be CWM or TWRP)?
2. Are you more or less acquainted with how to flash zips on your phone using the recovery programme. You say this all started by you flashing a ROM so flashing zips is following the same method so you should be able to do it.
If the answer to both questions is yes, then go here and download the zip file.
Place it on the external sd card of your phone.
Enter recovery mode (press volume up + power + home until Galaxy Note 2 splash screen appears).
Select the zip from your external sd card through the recovery programme and flash it.
Reboot your phone.
You now have 2 extra apps: Camera and Gallery.
Both of these are of the latest 4.2 firmware and your default system Camera and Gallery apps are now useless.
If all goes well, you now have a rather awesome and properly functioning Camera and a complementary Gallery.
???
Profit.
Let me know if it works out for you.
I can flash zips and everything yes, and my current gallery app works. When i boot camera app atm it says "camera failed"
In that case, follow this link: http://d-h.st/aIy
Download the file and flash it on to your phone. Again, let me know when you've done this and if it has worked.

Nope, didn't work. My stock camera says camera failed and the gallery works, while the 4.2 camera says that cant connect to the camera, and the 4.2 gallery is empty

Hi guys, please direct me to the correct place if this is not it. I am currently running revolt and I want to flash a new ROM. I had a status 7 error, which I have had before and I fixed that by updating CWM. But here is where I get hung up. I get an error that I thought was related to ROM manager not having the correct permissions. I went to update my supersu and give it the correct permissions, but I decided I wanted to change to Superuser and uninstalled supersu. I have now having an error where I can not download anything from he play store because my memory is full. When I check my memory it does not add up. I have 12gb of space and a I am using roughly 4 gb of that. If anyone knows of a way that I can fix the issue so that I can update my CWM and flash a new ROM it will be greatly appreciated!
Did you have the same error before changing your root managing app? You went from superuser to supersu

That is really confusing. When it says wrong permissions, it won't mean the root managing app has the wrong permissions, it means that the system has wrong permissions somewhere. This cannot be fixed through Supersu or Superuser. If you can still go into recovery, go into advanced, and then 'fix permissions' and that should fix issues if that is what it pertains to.
Because Android it is based off a Linux kernel, it is very picky with the permissions you give it. Too little and it doesn't work. Too much, and it doesn't work.
Let me know how you go.
I don't think I explained this very well in my first post. My issue lies when I try to flash the new version of cwm. I get this screen.
I went into recovery and advanced and I don't have an option that is fix permissions?
So you do have a current working recovery? Okay then advanced>Fix Permissions, at the bottom. If it isn't there, it might be the stock recovery included by Samsung. What is wrong with your current recovery? I can't seem to figure it out sorry.

I am running CMW 6.0.3.7. When I go to advanced all that I see is Reboot recovery, Reboot to bootloader, Power Off, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Report Error, Key Test, Show Log, *******Go back*******.
My recovery works, its just not up to date so when I go to flash a new ROM I get a status 7 error. I have had this issue before and I fixed it by updating my recovery. BUT this time when I go to flash an updated version of CWM I get the screen that I posted above.
the status seven error is usually to do with the updater-script. So make sure the ROM you want to flash is for your device, if it isn't (which may be why you have run into issues) don't flash it. But if you are sure it is, go into the ROM, META-INF>Android>Google>Updater-script (the android and google may be the other way round, it won't take you long to find it) And then open the updater script in a text editing program and remove the first few lines of stuff. It will have the words "assert" "getprop" and looks different to the rest, so just delete that section, and rezip if you have to, and try reflashing. But if that doesn't work and the issues are becoming intrusive, a full reset might be in order.
