Like the title says "Can the Note 2 be used without a sim card?" if so what functions are available? Like handwritten notes, wifi, bluetooth and android apps?
You can do anything you want as if it was a tablet/computer.....only you cant make calls.
As long as you log into your google account you can access the 'Play' store, your Samsung account (if you have one) will enable that cloud functionality etc
All the apps will work fine unless there is a requirement on the phone functionality. I used my Note 2 for a couple of days like this as my old number was getting ported.

Yes... and you can make at least 'some' calls without a sim card. All you need is wifi. If your friends also have a google account, you can call them for free using the "talk" app... as long as they are connected to the net of course. Still use my simless Note 1 in this way.

Okay. I understand the theory of a sim card, But can a person owning this phone
have only (1) sim card in and still be able to make calls> or does it require (2) sim cards?

I don't understand your question. I have one sim card (t-mobile) and I make calls using the sim card or I can make calls using wifi and the app talkatone. I can change the sim card for another carrier like Lycamobile and make calls using that service.

So i did a search, and didn't quite find what was looking for.
My G2 (T-Mobile USA) market, is a T-Mobile modified version. Even after a complete format/Wipe and install of CM7.
My market has a "T-Mobile" button on the front page, instead of a "My Apps" button. Takes me to T-Mobile recommended apps. (bottom of the green header, where you can select Apps, Games, My Apps (or in my case, T-Mobile).
I was wondering how i can get it back to the standard Market, where it is My Apps. I don't need T-mobiles recommendations for apps. =)
(and yeah i know i can just hit Menu>My Apps, but its just annoying. I hate bloatware, and carrier modifications. The reason i use CM7 is for stock, and the only thing NOT stock about my phone now, is this little mod. Its not a big thing, just a little annoying is all.
I'm probably wrong, but I think it reads your carrier, not the phone. No matter what ROM I flash (DZ, G2, Sense, CM7, whatever), I get the Tmo button on the market. Irritating, but at least the "My Apps" is available under the Menu button on Market.
Pop out your sim? Other than that your sim tells your phone what carrier market to display.

I had thought of that, however, i have 3 phones (4 actually, ones not here tho); My T-Mobile G2, a Nexus One, and a My Touch 3G 3.5mm; all on T-Mobile, all with T-Mobile sim cards, yet my G2 is the ONLY phone that shows the T-Mobile Recommendations. The other two phones show the My Downloads.
This leads me to believe its NOT tied to the sim card. In fact, this is the sim card i took out of my Nexus One when i upgraded. and when this SAME sim card was in my Nexus One, i had a My downloads.
Hmm any other ideas? Again tho its not a HUGE deal, just would be nice if i could straighten this last little bit of carrier influence, out of my phone. =)
Thanks in advance.
Would market enabler solve this problem?
Ok just downloaded market enabler and set it t-mobile usa and I get the the tmobile reccomended apps. If I set verizon it just goes back to giving you the my apps option.

I'm 99% sure I'm S-Off. i rooted fairly late, so i think I rooted using the most current methods.
Are you suggesting to physically change my sim card to another carrier, or is there a way to change it software wise? I think you mean to change it to like AT&T or something right? Don't have the means to do that. =(
What always worked for me was changing the density in the build prop...I don't know why it works it just does
Lol. It is not a modified market. It's just reading your sim card. To remove the tmobile tab, either take out your sim, or download market enabler and change your provider.
Wow lol. I know im picky about ads, but this is uber picky hahaha.

so, I am usually pretty paranoid when it comes to my phone. I set up Avast anti-theft and I set a pin for my sim card.
if someone steals my phone, then I can text it and it'll track it on a map. If they take out the sim card and tries to use it on a different phone, they can't without the pin number.
now, the problem is, someone stole my phone. they turned it off the second they got it. I sent it the text to track it. after a while, I realized, the person would have to unlock my sim card before the text can be sent.
I did get it back, but to prevent this, is there something I can do to auto-unlock my sim card on my phone?

As far as I know from personal experience you can not unlock the sim without the pin code. It would take away the whole purpose of having security on your sim card. It is there just in case of this scenario. I mean you can leave it off if you want to be able to find it.
I leave mine with only the main screen lock for that reason. I want the phone to turn on so that prey cann do it's job. If I lost my phone's and couldn't recover it then it's easy enough to blacklist in the UK!

OK here is what they DONT TELL YOU!!
I called bell to ask if i have an NFC SIM. NO.
NO CANADIAN BELL USER HAS BEEN GIVEN AN NFC SIM WITH THEIR PHONE. YOU MUST GO TO BELL STORE TO GET A FREE SIM UPGRADE.
ALSO. the guy at bell said they have a notice from RBC telling users to go to:
http://www.rbcroyalbank.com/mobile/wallet/nfc-update/
and fill out the form, and an RBC agent will contact you and arrange a push update to your NFC SIM to enable RBC wallet to work.
I am running a SGS4 from bell running a 4.4.2 google edition rom (by danvdh), with build.prop edited back to my original model number from bell.
I just got back from the bell store and have my NFC sim installed. I have the new RBC app installed.
The new card option on first page of RBC app (seen in screenshots from RBC site) is not visible on my device.
I have filled out the form and am waiting for a call back, i imagine this push update will enable the missing button in RBC app.
will update with more information as it comes available.

Great. I have RBC and would love this feature but I have a Nexus 5 and am on Telus. I tried the market changer and also the app to change the model of the phone but it didn't work. I would love someone to hack this thing. Why do they restrict it to a specific device and a specific network?

also even with network change and device ID change, you have to fill out the form and have RBC push an update to your NFC Sim sercure element.

Any updates on this? I have the NFC sim, RBC emailed me and said everything has been activated but the wallet menu doesn't appear in the app. I'm on a rooted GS4 with a custom 4.4 rom installed with bell. The only problem I can think of is my rom. After a month, can you update us on how things are going with this app?
really? just 2 posts up? working on rooted modded STOCK rom, could not get running on custom.
i know this is an old thread, seems like rbc took away the requirement to push an update to the sim, can the build prop be modded for a work around? thnaks
Just hearing of this, shame I'm on Telus and about to close my RBC account.
Ok so my network (Three uk) disabled my unlimited wifi teathering some time ago which rendered the tablet i used at work useless.
So i went out and found myself a new big screen phone, the sm-t705, a little unwieldy as a phone but hay it works.
Only here comes the snag, when i put the sim card into the device the internet would not work, an error page tells me to put the sim card into a phone to get net, three tech support told me that my phone is a tablet and cant make phone calls .....i was using it to call them lol
Anyway, to the point, i recently read that a rooted device (i am rooted) can pretend to be another device by changing the build.prop there are tons of guilds on how to change it, though from the view point of making google play see it as a different device to install unsupported applications, seems straight forward (if a little risky) but here are my questions,
1) what sections do i need to change so the phone reports as a normal phone?
2) what phone should i spoof as? (im thinking i should spoof as a phone as close to my specs in terms of processor etc as possible to avoid installing a version of an app that may have different cpu requirements or may burn out my phones gpu)
3) anyone done this? any tips if you have?
Thanks in advance, all advice greatfully recieved.
Regarding your old tablet, have you tried Foxfi?
Foxfi doesn't need a tethering plan or root and can create a hotspot using either Bluetooth or wifi.
It works great for me.
Barnacle wifi also used to be good on older devices, but seems to have issues with newer ones.
I used it to create a hotspot on a device that didn't even support it.
All you need is Foxfi on the phone and pdanet on the tablet for the 2 to connect via Bluetooth. Foxfi provides the instructions and links to pdanet to get it up and running in minutes.
For your new tablet if the sim is detecting it is a tablet and three are blocking it from mobile data then I don't think a spoof using the build.prop will fool it as it uses the imei as far as I know.
You may be better off with an xposed module to spoof the device, even then I think your success will be limited.
It's a bit crap of three to do this. I use O2 and have no issues using my phone sim in any tablet.
Does the tablet not even make a mobile data connection?
Have you checked the apn settings are correct?
Sent from my SM-T280 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I used pdanet for a while, but would prefer to just use one device, the old tablet was sold to pay for the t705 (will part pay, damn this thing was pricy)
Does the imei reveal the device model?

It's used to identify the device, so they will know it's a tablet.
There is an xposed module called device faker, but like I say I think success will be limited as I think the sim will identify the imei from the hardware.
It's seems three don't want you using your tablet for data, do they have an explanation for this?
Maybe all you need is an updated sim card.
I have a three sim card that I can use for data, but if I want I can also make calls with it if I put credit on it.

This explains the issue better then I can,
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/opinion/...y-monthly-account-from-use-with-ipad-3368856/
As for why, the lady at the three shop told me the data to a tablet is different to the data to a phone as it's not the same operating system......I did my best to not laugh and asked to speak to a higher up, they told me that as it is a tablet and not a phone I would be breaching my contract if I used my simcard in it.....
The actual reason, someone who uses a tablet is more likly to use data and therefore they can get more money out of them via tablet plans with limited data... To sum up, greed.
My temporary solution is to use a bt simcard which gives me access to the world's most unstable bt WiFi network (which disconnects every 30 mins or so) I was hoping the build.prop would be the magic solution doh

Any page you try to access goes straight to a page three has to say that your sim card won't work in this device and to put it back in a phone, so while technically you have data you can't use it, no apps can use it either

So you actually do get a mobile data connection it's just any data sent is blocked.
Have you tried using a vpn, this can circumvent most carrier restrictions.
DotVPN is free and very good, available on play.
There is also TouchVPN, but DotVPN is better as its truly anonymous.
I use these to circumvent Sky's stupid restrictions.
Worth a go.
Vpn? He will have to use vpn? Forever?, i believe your carrier is denying access due to fake id. . .return to yor real roots, or you will get troubles,
Example , is imposible, strictly forbidden change IMEI number of mobiles,
So i may able to SHOW a fake IMEI for really nonsense apps that NEVER interest my IMEI. THAN THE CARRIER.

If i change the code inside the IMEI,
They will suspend the services.

They already have suspended his services and no he doesn't need to use a vpn forever, he can always update his plan.
What's wrong with a vpn anyway? I use one all the time and he only needs to use it for mobile data not wifi.
We're looking for solutions here to unreasonable restrictions not statements to the obvious.
Sadly what I use most of my data for is Netflix, I work as night security. A vpn would be bad.
To chap further up, nothing is spoofed at the minute, three detect the sm-t705 when I have thier sim in it and block data access, put the sim in my phone and the block is lifted, I'm looking for a way to make three think my sm-t705 is saying Xperia z3 and leave my data along
Your IMEI correspond to your device model number.
If You change or reformat your IMEI partition with a new number and device model number and id, the carrier will blacklist and suspend your device, simcard.
Is imposible to fake IMEI to carrier provider
I am able to spoof IMEI to all that i judge nonsense apos, minus the carrier...

Hi all,
I juz got a unlocked AT&T active s7 and have been using fine in my country ( not in USA ) . I'm on 7.0 nougat version BQA7 that installed via recovery.
I decided yesterday to have my conventional SIM card changed to NFC-Sim so that I could use it for my train fares in my country but apparently the apps I'm using says that my NFC SIM card is non NFC enabled Sim . I checked this Sim in my other phones and apparently is working well for NFC payment.
Question : as anyone of you here has got luck in using NFC SIM or its jus that AT&T disabled this feature in their s7A ? Or is nougat 7.0 that I'm using disabled NFC SIM card ?
Thanks , Any lights for me is greatly appreciated.
are you not able to use an app that uses the phones NFC ?
I'm using a NFCsim card that supposedly is able to be top up with values ( using Samsung pay) for my time town's transport fare. But the app for adding values detects the NFCsim card in my phone Sim tray as not a NFCsim card (but in fact it is) . I use the same card in a S7 edge and it works flawless. I was thinking if s7 active isn't compatible with NFCsim.
Btw , my s7 active has a working NFC.
