Hi all,
I've got a bit of a problem with my S. When I make or receive a call I can't hear anything in the speaker, I have to switch to loudspeaker to have a conversation. The phone runs 4.0.4. I had this problem for a while but it always resolved itself after some time. I recently rooted the phone and deleted a few sys apps but nothing I wasn't sure about (everything regarding timescape, twitter, SoundLevelAlert and SemcUnplugChargerReminder, at least that's all I remember). Now, apart from the internal speaker problem, I also lost sound while playing any media, only working with headphones plugged in ;/
Any ideas whether it can be a software issue? Or do I need to contact the service asap?...
Sound like hardware problem. If I were you I will contact Sony service.

If you have installed a bad version of the sound mod (half of the versions before ACID came up), it could be causing this. Try doing a factory reset or reinstaling your ROM.
reset didn't work, done it a couple of days ago. i'll try reinstalling when I find some time...
Did you have headphones plugged in before this happened?

I' m using 4.0.4 XS and I have same problem too, it's impossible to hear anything in a noisy area and it happens only when I'm moving (walking, in a car ...)
I think it' s a software problem because when I'm standing, speaker works normally.
Or maybe antenna issue?
Any ideas?
Sorry for my english

I just flashed the phone with seus - still sh*t ;/
Keep plugging headphones in and out. Sometimes it sticks thinking they're still plugged in

that was probably the most stupid problem I ever had with an android phone!!!
I realized it's the headphones when I saw that the headphone profile in livewire is on although no cable was connected. dunno if removing the profile or plugging in and out helped but the main thing is - IT WORKS!!! thanks
Lol its happened to me before, took me ages to figure it out!

Wow, this worked on my Xperia L!
It occurred to me that today my music kept on playing while I had my headphones plugged out, but there wasn't any sound, so I thought nothing of it and paused the music app. In the evening I wanted to use the external speaker but it didn't work. Then I stumbled upon this thread et voila, fixed, thanks!
Bang your phone
I also faced this issue. My phone fell down yesterday and then the speaker stopped working. I thought it was a software problem and resetted my phone. It still did not work. Then I banged the phone on my palm a few times and it stopped working. It's like "Laato ke bhut baato se nahi maante". Disappointed with the quality of the piece though.

I can't answer such a generic question without more information. First, I'm going to assume you mean the earpiece, not the external. Next, I'm going to assume it's STOCK EC05 rooted. So based on that assumption, you likely don't believe you've done anything to your Epic that would cause this kind of error. Then I'm going to take it that, either your question is rhetorical and you believe you have a hardware issue, or you believe that either EC05 or rooting is the cause and you're asking if anyone has had any similar problem with EC05.
I can say that I don't know of any similar problem with rooting or EC05. But seeing as you don't mention whether you're even stock or custom, or whether this problem arrived before or after you rooted, no one will be able to compare their situation to yours. Please enclose better information. The following are my generic solutions:
1. Download Sound Manager and attempt to tweak hidden sound settings.
2. Flash or re-flash a ROM (as I don't know if you're custom or not to begin with).
3. Odin to stock or stock-rooted EB13.
4. Head to your nearest Sprint repair store.
You can find links to everything you need for a fresh start in my signature.

Same issue
All notification sounds and ringtones play through the earpiece instead of the speaker
I had the issue on stock rom figured rooting would fix it.
It did for a couple days and then everything went back to playing through the earpieces as if I was on the phone.
I use a bluetooth car kit often and Im wondering if that has anything to do with it
There may be a simple fix for you. This has happened to me a few times when I have plugged up my Epic to wired headphones. Something about disconnecting can sometimes cause the phone to think it is still outputting sound to the headphones, so you cannot hear sound anymore . . . even with a restart. A simple fix is just to plug in a headphone jack again and remove again. This has fixed this issue for me numerous times.
Lost my sound today
Took the above advise and plugged in a wired headset then unplugged. Worked like a charm...for about 2 hours...then happened again. No matter what I try now, cant get sound again.
B4 u ask:
Been CleanGB/BML w/o any mods or themes for long time.
Havent installed any new apps in days.
No OC/UV
Sounds are fine in wired headset
BT works.
Cleared DV cache and reboot > no fix
ODIN'ed stock EC05 > no fix
---this tells me its not the os, but why did it work after plug/unplug headset?
Yes, Sprint store just down the street, but I love a challenge Anyone?
Same problem. Works fine if I plug in an audio out. But did ring for instant messages for about a day. So speaker does work. Wonder if I should go with the kernel that was orginally flashed with cm9?

There are two different issues being reported here.
One being, sounds come out of the ear piece and not the speaker (e.g. ring tone during incoming call can be heard with phone up to your head).
The other being no sound at all, unless you connect to the headphone jack.
The latter I would suspect to be a HW problem (loose internal speaker connection maybe?).
The former would be an audio routing issue I've experienced myself (usually related to BT, speaker-phone, etc).
A simple reboot should fix the routing issue (has for me a few times).
=]
If u Odin back to stock and it still doesn't work then its probly hardware. I tried everything thinking it was sw but ended up replacing the speaker.

I have the exact same issue, if I plug in headphones it will work through speaker, nothing connected it thinks headphones are connected. I have to jam a eyelet from my shoes in there, and connect it to bluetooth to hear audio...
So I ain't the only one...
Went back to stock, same difference, nothing I know will correct it...

This is a known phenomenon I've seen a thread here before where the headphones are reversed... like it think the headphones are plugged in when they aren't.... dunno what causes it but its certainly not too abnormal.

Wrong forum, this is galaxy s1 epic 4g with keyboard.
-when listen music either on HTC music widget or PowerAmp
- got Gap and silent when using Bluetooth headset
- works fine if direct connect to the ONE X
any idea and fix ???
I've yet to see if this works for bluetooth but had a look at the ROMeOS rom and saw this in the build.prop as monx seams to have fixed the stutter: lpa.decode=true
I've set this in my build.prop and will try through the car bluetooth tomorrow.
To edit build.prop in the system folder you will need root access
thanks , buddy , let me know the result.
Unfortunately made no difference for me, will keep digging though as this is annoying when I have a 40 min commute to work each morning and again back.
Anyone have any idea's?
Edit: this doesn't just happen on the beats setting, turning it off makes no difference.
Anyone have any ideas on any fixes yet?

Have the same stutter issue even after 1.28 update connected with my bluetooth MW600.
Seems the problem is device switching to power conserve core. When i play music in background while running GPS in foreground, iam not getting the stutter.

I have the same bluetooth headset, the MW600 and the stutter makes it unusable. I'm on 1.29 stock now and I got to the point that I don't use my MW600 for listening to music anymore, but just wired Sennheisers.
Have you found a solution yet?

No. Not really
After using MW600 for 2+ yrs without much issues iam thinking to order Sony Smart wireless Headset Pro and see if it makes some difference. But, its not yet available in stock

I read somewhere that some custom ROMs solve music stutter issue. Iam on stock locked and can't comment though.

I was also planning on buying that Sony thing, but then I found my Nokia BH 214 back. It is now charging and when I'm back home I will test it. If it also stutters, I'm not going to buy a new headset, because it's likely to have the same problems, although that Sony is Bluetooth 3.0, which could make a difference.
I'll let you know the results with the Nokia.
I have stutter problem with sennheiser Bluetooth headphones. Am on stock 1.28, and disabling beats doesn't help (although did help on older version)
Music is unlistenable now

I'm running 1.28 & have the same issue with my car kit which is a works supplied Nokia car kit that allows A2DP connections. I'm definitely going to try running the GPS at the same time on my way home from work to see it that fixes it as suggested. I have a usb charger that I plug in so won't be using any extra juice. I'll post back my results.

Sorry for the very late reply, I completely forgot it. Just yet I tested the Nokia BH 214. First my One X couldn't find it, tried for almost 10 minutes. Then I disabled WiFi, just to try, and yes the headset was found. Then I put WiFi back on, but it refused to communicate. Wifi off again, communicating worked. So to say pairing was easy: far from that.
Now the next phase: listening to music. Completely unusable. Very very bad. There's something wrong with output, vocals are washed away and sound like the singer is 100 miles away. While quality isn't an issue with the MW600. But also the gaps. What is also very strange is when the phone is on my desk in line of sight with my headset, the are only a few gaps. But as soon as I put the phone in my pocket, the gaps increase exponentially.
So I think in my case the only thing left is to send the phone back. There must be something wrong with it, my WiFi reception is also very bad. Bluetooth also sucks, so since WiFi and Bluetooth are handled by the same chip, there must be something wrong with it. I really like the phone and sending it back means it's away for 2/3/? weeks, but first I hoped it was something with the software but that hope is fading away.
--------edit: just pissed of by all this. Called HTC and I'm sending it back for repair. Nice phone, but basics like WiFi and Bluetooth must work and they don't. They said it will be back in 7-10 working days. Hope they can keep that promise. --------
Have the same problem with my Jabra Freeway, really annoying to get thos silent gaps when listening to podcasts and music in the car. Tried to run navigation on my way to work today to see if that made any difference but it didn't :-(

Seems the problem is more related to Bluetooth version & buffering.

I just tried using my Moto S10-HD after reading this, and thought I would tell you my experience. I have alot of music on my phone, and I just hooked up my BT with Wifi on and no issues, so I started to play music and so far 3 songs and no gaps stutter or anything like that. One thing that does happen which prior phones didnt happen is that when the screen goes to stand by after not touching it, there is a .5 second interruption in the song, but thats it I am currently on my forth song and the phone is in "standby" mode and it plays perfectly.
I have the WWE version of the phone using 1.29.401.11 ROM BL unlocked, rooted, and custom stock rom.
Not sure that it helps you but to share my experience; I have occasional stuttering on bluetooth using my Sennheisers if the phone is in my pocket. I found that I can replicate the stuttering if I completely cover the top of the phone with a hand on either side and cupped together at the top - in fact I can cut off bluetooth playback altogether.
This isn't a normal way of holding the phone obviously - but it does count if the phone is in your pocket, there is already some 'resistance/interference' from the surroundings. Other than that, I have great wifi reception, best of any phone I have had.
Could this be a hardware fault? Maybe they just need to boost the bluetooth signal / improve buffering?
I only got my HOX this week, aside from this issue it is great, no other issues - touch wood
Mine seemed to studder when it was in my pocket while I walked my dog. I sent it in for other issues and we'll see if the new one has similar issues.
Same problem here ! Kinda disapointed !
Same problem SonyEricsson HBH-IS800
I also have a lot of stuttering. It appears to be a very weak signal because it works better (though still not flawless) when I have the phone close to the headset.
Putting the phone in my pocket is already far enough for playback to completely stop working.
This is my first thread here so i apologize if i'm in the wrong section. I have searched for previous threads related to this problem but didn't find anything about this specific issue.
So i bought my Optimus G a few months ago when it was first released in Canada and everything was working fine until i bricked the damn thing trying to flash custom ROMs (i'm new to the android world and didn't exactly know what i was doing..). LG was nice enough to flash the original ROM on the phone despite the fact that it was rooted and all.
Since then i didn't re-root the phone by fear of messing it up again but i did unlock it since i needed to use in on a european carrier.
Everything is working fine on the phone running on 4.1.2 except for this one problem. Whenever i'm listening to music with headphone or an aux. cable for the car there seems to be some connection issue. The music will play fine but after about 15 / 20min the sound will become all jittery and the music will constantly shift from very loud to very low . At this point the volume rocker will only control the phone volume (ringer) instead of the headset volume as if it didn't detect the headset anymore. Then i just need to unplug the headset and plug it back. It's not a huge deal but it gets pretty annoying and this happens EVERY TIME i listen to music. I tried a bunch of different players / headphones and it still happens.
I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same thing, not sure if it's a software thing or if there's a connection problem in my headphone jack.
Also, i find the maximum volume on the phone to be a bit low, is there anyway to jack it up a bit? i tried different equalizers to try and boost the volume but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Thanks in advance, cheers

Did you make sure to look that there isn't anything obstructing the head phone port? the canned air stuff for computers works amazing to clean it out.
Worst comes to worst, it is replaceable... I haven't tried to replace one yet myself but I can look into it in the near future if you would like, (ease, price etc.)
Thanks guys i will try both these options and let you know how it worked out

So about a week ago i received a secondhanded (if this is the right term) Xperia Arc S. Everything went well at the beginning but then it started to make a weird noise, like it had faulty speakers, but my doubt is that the noise come from all the sound outputs (loud speaker, speaker and the headphone). Could this be a software problem or are all speakers and the headphone output broken? Seems a lot of unluck to be truth :S
Anyway, in my hand i've made an upgrade to 4.0.4, a factory reset and a sd card format and none of those seemed to resolve this issue :S not rooted and unlock bootloader not allowed.
Best regards
Let's start out with the basics - PC Companion and try to repair the firmware. Visit Support Center inside PC Companion, it should offer the option, if the phone does not start.

That didn't worked either. The phone is making even more noise than before :S this is starting to be very annoying.
PS: I just unchecked xLoud and so far it didn't made any noise at all. I'll just keep with him this way and soon i'll talk about it.

Hey Guys,
I have a strange problem with my I9192. From yesterday on I have no sound at all:
Neither on speaker, headset, headphone nor if its connected with bluetooth to a speaker.
I already made several factory resets and tried different other roms but no chance.
Did anyone here ever had a problem like this? I assume it must be a hardware fault but what can it be. Of course it would be easy to replace the speaker unit but as headphone of bluetooth don't work either... hmm...
Even the Microphone seems not to work anymore.
Everything else seems to be ok - just no sound at all :crying:
Thanks in advance for hints.
Cheers,
Axel

the phone was running with SilviuMiks ROM and Kernel. I tried several other ROMs. (STOCK and CM11) but no difference. and yes... the phone is rooted.
the other thing i can see... when start a media player and play a mp3 song it runs approx. 10 times as fast as it should - but no sound at all.
cheers.

but the problem came back after approx half an hour. maybe a thermal problem.
