So about a week ago i received a secondhanded (if this is the right term) Xperia Arc S. Everything went well at the beginning but then it started to make a weird noise, like it had faulty speakers, but my doubt is that the noise come from all the sound outputs (loud speaker, speaker and the headphone). Could this be a software problem or are all speakers and the headphone output broken? Seems a lot of unluck to be truth :S
Anyway, in my hand i've made an upgrade to 4.0.4, a factory reset and a sd card format and none of those seemed to resolve this issue :S not rooted and unlock bootloader not allowed.
Best regards
Let's start out with the basics - PC Companion and try to repair the firmware. Visit Support Center inside PC Companion, it should offer the option, if the phone does not start.

That didn't worked either. The phone is making even more noise than before :S this is starting to be very annoying.
PS: I just unchecked xLoud and so far it didn't made any noise at all. I'll just keep with him this way and soon i'll talk about it.
Edit: It didn't worked either. This certainly is a hardware problem isn't it?

It does seem like a hardware issue.

Hello .. I have 6 months old Xperia Play its great device but now there is a problem with microphone, when i was at call it gives high background sounds, people cant hear me properly, i check microphone by using *#*#7378423#*#* but problem is same, also i hard reset and restore phone software by using SE PC Companion but i get nothing still same problem, if anyone know any solution for this?
THANK YOU!
Hi all,
I've got a bit of a problem with my S. When I make or receive a call I can't hear anything in the speaker, I have to switch to loudspeaker to have a conversation. The phone runs 4.0.4. I had this problem for a while but it always resolved itself after some time. I recently rooted the phone and deleted a few sys apps but nothing I wasn't sure about (everything regarding timescape, twitter, SoundLevelAlert and SemcUnplugChargerReminder, at least that's all I remember). Now, apart from the internal speaker problem, I also lost sound while playing any media, only working with headphones plugged in ;/
Any ideas whether it can be a software issue? Or do I need to contact the service asap?...
Sound like hardware problem. If I were you I will contact Sony service.

If you have installed a bad version of the sound mod (half of the versions before ACID came up), it could be causing this. Try doing a factory reset or reinstaling your ROM.
reset didn't work, done it a couple of days ago. i'll try reinstalling when I find some time...
Did you have headphones plugged in before this happened?

I' m using 4.0.4 XS and I have same problem too, it's impossible to hear anything in a noisy area and it happens only when I'm moving (walking, in a car ...)
I think it' s a software problem because when I'm standing, speaker works normally.
Or maybe antenna issue?
Any ideas?
Sorry for my english

Keep plugging headphones in and out. Sometimes it sticks thinking they're still plugged in

that was probably the most stupid problem I ever had with an android phone!!!
I realized it's the headphones when I saw that the headphone profile in livewire is on although no cable was connected. dunno if removing the profile or plugging in and out helped but the main thing is - IT WORKS!!! thanks
Lol its happened to me before, took me ages to figure it out!

Wow, this worked on my Xperia L!
It occurred to me that today my music kept on playing while I had my headphones plugged out, but there wasn't any sound, so I thought nothing of it and paused the music app. In the evening I wanted to use the external speaker but it didn't work. Then I stumbled upon this thread et voila, fixed, thanks!
Bang your phone
I also faced this issue. My phone fell down yesterday and then the speaker stopped working. I thought it was a software problem and resetted my phone. It still did not work. Then I banged the phone on my palm a few times and it stopped working. It's like "Laato ke bhut baato se nahi maante". Disappointed with the quality of the piece though.
Hi I have one problem with my phone when I plug-in headphones it won't recognize them can someone help me.

Get your earphones replaced. You can try by using another earphones. It worked for me as I faced the same problem you are facing currently.
Any other changes to the phone (modded, new ROM, OTA update, or anything else?); or the headphones just stopped working with no significant changes to the phone?
If the latter, there are apps that will allow you to toggle on/off headphones. But if it still doesn't work, you may have a hardware defect (headphone jack has become loose from the motherboard, for instance).
If not modded, try factory reset, or RUU (if available for your CID).
If modded, try a different ROM.
Hey folks.
My wife has a locked ZL phone with the latest lollipop update on it. I recently wiped everything through the PC Repair Sony program before doing anything.
My problem consist that my ZL phone microphone is not working in calls, viber, facebook, you name it. It just simply doesn't work.
It only works through Video Message Recording. For example, if my wife sends me a video message through viber I can hear her very well.. I tried to mess around with it but I cannot find anything.
Thank you all!
It might sound like a software problem, but this is almost always hardware related. Either Viber also uses the secondary microphone, or it auto-increases gain on the primary microphone until it's audible.
You can test proper function of the primary mic by typing *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialer, or simply downloading xperia service menu app.

If you confirmed the primary mic is not working, start cleaning it with a pin (bottom right). If it still not works you can try using some sort of air pump. Not sure if it's save to use a high pressure compressor..
most of the zl phone have the same issue...in my case primary mic is completely gone and now iam ordered a new mic piece for replacement. I think the video recorder is using secondary mic for recording...

if after the above service test your mic doesn't work, im afraid yours is dead. you have to get the mic replaced. mine died too after 2.5years. got it replaced for around 12-13USD (INR900).
Thanks for all the replies. I think it is dead. I am using earphones with mic. Such is the life of having a Sony phone. (Never again)
