Heya,
I was using the LeeDroid ROM until today, when I desided I want Cyanogen.
I backed up the phone using ROM Manager, wipe and flashed Cyanogem 6.1 RC2. The phone restarted, turned on - but it cn't load the actual android OS - just keeps restarting on the blue wheel-thing animation.
I can boot my phone into recovery, but can't do much from there since its S-ON.
The recovery windows says:
bravo pvt1 ship s-on
hboot-0.80.0000
microp-031d
touch panel-synt0101
radio-5.10.05.23
fastboot
recovery
clear storage
simlock
what can I do to get my phone working again? Will a simple restore using HTC software do the trick (followed by root with unrevoked)?
Thanks

Which version of Clockworkmod recovery did you fakeflash? There is an issue with the latest one that makes your SDcard unaccessible afterwards. It also mess up your USB.
Here is a thread that guides you how to fix it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639
I used the latest one, 2.5.1.7 I think.
Isn't there a way to restore the phone with the HTC software, sonething lite the iphone+itunes combo?
Is your sd card not being recognzed?
As you said you created a backup using rom manager before you flashed the new rom. So why dont you just enter hboot, go to recovery and the restore youre phone to the backup that you made using rom mabager before you flashed?
When I select "recovery" using the HBOOT I get a picture of a phone, and a red triangle with an exclamation mark. Does this mean I have to do the USB brick fix?
hmmm thats odd ... sounds like it could be a usb brick related issue, im not sure as i havnt had the same problem before or seen anyone else in the forum experiencing this problem.
I think you should read up more about the usb brick fix, hopefully there is something there that would be able to help you ... if its already known that the latest version of clockworkmod does give this problem then im sure its this and you would be able to find a solution to this problem.
Good luck
UPDATE:
My bad, I was supposed to press volumeup+power to see the recovery screen.
Now, when I do that I get "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command", and get only 4 options:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe date
wipe cache
Is this related to the USB BRICK thing?
You need to wipe data when switching roms, this will fix the bootloop.
I would also suggest you flash a permanent recovery for ease of use. You need to use unrevoked to do this.

This is the default android recovery screen. The error "E:Cant open...." is something I also get.
Do you have an update.zip on your SDcard? Like the clockworkmod recovery? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839640Use 2.5.0.7 and not 2.5.1.2 (has the fail you most likely see now). If correct update.zip on SDcard, try to press apply sdcard. If youre able to do so, you are accessing your sdcard. If youre getting problems applying this update file. I suggest following the thread I told you in my first post You then have to make your SDcard accessible with a fastboot command.
You are accessing fastboot by holding vol down while powering your phone on. Select fastboot. Plug your USB. Download the Android SDK or only fastboot.exe. Run this command from cmd: "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0". You should get a return command like "okay", and your SD card should be accessible again. Now you will need to follow the guide and fix your USB. However, you should be able to flash a new ROM now when your SDcard is accessible again, or just restore the nandroid backup that gave you this problem to begin with

When i select that I get "E; failed to open sdcard\update.zip (no such file or directory)
E: signature verification failed"
Does this simply mean I don't have that file on my card?
If so, is there a way to access the card in mass storage mode while the phone is in HBOOT?

Do you have a mem reader for windows/linux? Look if you have the file or not. If you don't have it, copy it there. If it's there, you have a problem with accessing the SDCard.
I would say, If I were you, I would try to "repair" the SDcard with the fastboot command first. Most likely, your ROM will boot again when it can read from your SDcard.
Other options would be to try to push the update file with ADB in Android Recovery. Most likely you can't push it either since your SDcard most likely is inaccessible. Try fastboot
Download Android SDK for Windows here: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r07-windows.zip
MD5: 69c40c2d2e408b623156934f9ae574f0
Unzip the file. Open CMD, navigate to the tools folder in SDK. Issue the command.

I ran the SDcard fix on CMD, it said "OKAY", but nothing changed in the phone's condition.
I put the SDcard on a card reader and saw there are backup files (.img) in the clockworkmod directory. how do i get the phone to recover from them?
The "update.zip" file, where can i get that one?

You can get your update.zip file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839640
Download the 2.5.0.7 zip file and rename to update.zip. Put on root of SDcard and apply sdcard: update.zip in android recovery. From here, go to nandroid, restore, and select your backup.
Doesn't the Update.zip file suppose to be a zipped ROM?
Not necessarily. A zip can flash a lot of different things. I'm not that much into it. But it all depends on the content of the zip file.

Don't remember what it's called exactly. But when running update.zip (clockworkmod), you should have a restore menu somewhere...
Thanks a lot man! recovering right now.. will update when done.
About that S-ON thing, will the Unrevoked reflash option "Remove phone security" take care of this? Is there a risk in re-rooting?
I want to add some notifications sounds and the "system" folder is write protected
EDIT:
The restore works just fine!

hey there.. you should have got an nandroid backup before you had your firmware updated.. but no worry.. we will work that out.. the sim problem maybe because your radio or RIL is not new and so on... so you should first update your radio and ril.. but before that get yourself a custom recovery... i recommend the latest ClockworkMod which is 5... google 'flash custom recovery on htc desire' then download the ClockWorkmod 5 from xda (desire version) and flash it.. after you had it finished check it by booting into recovery either by passing out the 'adb reboot recovery' command in adb shell or holding down vol-down + power while powering on and selecting recovery from the bootloader menu (the menu you will see after you hold the buttons).. you should see the blue recovery saying clockworkmod 5.. if so then download the compatible Radio and RIL for you phone from xda then flash them using recovery..( copy the zip files into your sd card ( you can mount your sd to usb using clockworkmod recovery option in Storage/Mount - > mount usb storage -maybe different) then first flash the RIL .zip using install .zip from sdcard option then reboot again to recovery and install the Radio .zip using the same option) then copy the leedroid .zip to sd using the instructions above and flash it again using install .zip from sdcard option.. then test .. if succeed you are lucky.. if not flash an OTA update (the official HTC firmware) you can find it in the net... i will be happy to help you better. if your problem not solved pm me!
Apparently Rom manager has caused all kinds of problems on the desire. On the android forums http//androidforums.com/htc-desire/ they advise you not to use it. Hanging at the htc screen is a common problem. There is however some advice on recovery.

Hey Guys
My Story started from 6 days ago when i wanted to change my battery , the device now is keep restarting on White screen ( HTC EVO 4G ) and hangs whenever i press the recovery mode in bootloder menu .
I Almost tried everything and only successfully unlocked the boot loader finally using --->([HowTo] Unlock Bootloader And Root 2.3.5 HBOOT 2.18 ) "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771755 but no chance to S-OFF the device and replace the whole ROM "
i can't root and downgrade the phone because all "bootloader: 2.18.0001 " methods need either active debugging mode or recovery menu which is not accessible !
i have access only through the fastboot - Hboot USB or SdCard .
I have tried almost all version of RUUs and it failed , says " bootloder version error " or " the main version is older "
PC36IMG Downgrade to the 4.67.651.3 which is last available version from the sd card also failed says " the main version is older "
here is the Fastboot info

by the way i figure it out that i may be able to trick the htc and change the txt file called android-info.txt inside the PC36IMG for the " Main version is older " ERROR but Unfortunately i have no permission to edit or modify my stock ruu Rom "PC36IMG " that i extracted from last available RUU version for evo4g "RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio _2.1 5.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed" .
Any Idea Please ?

You need to install a custom recovery, which can be done from the bootloader. Search for Smelkusmod recovery here and follow the instructions on how to install it. Afterwards you can install a custom ROM
Edit: Here is the link for Smelkusmod recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661543
Once installed, place whatever ROM you want on the root of your SD card. Then you can enter recovery from the bootloader screen and flash the ROM.

Two things, either you have a bad partition or your recovery is gone. Easiest thing to do would be to load a custom recovery onto the root of your SD card and make sure the file is named PC36IMG.zip (make sure you don't have an extra .zip extension or it won't work). Make sure the phone is powered off, then hold down the power down & volume buttons until the bootloader opens up. Hopefully the recovery will load and you'll be prompted to update. Just follow the on-screen instructions. Also, make sure you don't have any other PC36IMG's on your SD card.

many tanks for reply xx . . .the only thing i remember aside the changing the battery was that 1 day before this happen, i removed my sd card to recover some accidentally deleted picture using RecoverMyFiles software from my computer . . . i also tried loading a custom recovery and yes i certainly ensured that the file name is PC36IMG and formatted my SD card before transferring the file . . . i also tried different SD cards ex: 2gb - 4gb - 8g etc ! All those steps you just mentioned is carefully done ! and the result is that the device skip the update from the sd card says : no or wrong image !!
aside that i have upgraded my recovery to" recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.2-supersonic " and "recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3 " and many other available recoveries through the fastboot since my bootloader is unlocked !
but the thing is nothing is loading after all those updates !!
the only thing got my attention was that when i update those custom recoveries the device would hangs after choosing recovery from the bootloader but if i use the 5.07.651.6 version original recovery the device would keep restarting !!

i was able to loaded it successfully through the fastboot method and the device hangs after i press the recovery from the boot loader menu as i expected
You need to download the .img file, not the PC36IMG.zip
Once you get the .img file, do the following (connected to PC in fastboot mode)
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <recovery_name.img>
The recovery has to be in the same directory as fastboot though

I purchased an HTC Evo 4G from Ebay and the hardware is perfect. My problem is exact same. Found out this thing has the 5.07 update and there is no RUU to restore it and can't go backwards with S-ON!!! Can't get S-OFF without booting as this thing won't go into recovery or boot at all. I did however **Unlocked** the bootloader and that is as far as I get. I even re-locked it to try all the RUUs! I develop roms for this device so I know what I am doing! Keep getting replies to flash custom recovery which I already tried all of them and unfortunately it will just bootloop instead of recovery. Even tried 'fastboot boot (recovery name) and fastboot flash recovery (revovery name)....Need someone to get into a RUU and modify it to by-pass the firmware version check if possible! If I can get this to boot into any rom, then I can fix this!!! Come on devs, if we can port-in beats, bravia, and all other device ports, we can solve this!
You need to relock and apply the signed firmware zip from the latest OTA. If that's the software version you were running, it *should* get you booting again.

Cool! Thank you for your input. But I put this thing aside in my computer store for awhile... I will try this zip today.. I did re-lock the bootloader before I posted earlier though and already tried re-installing the latest last known RUU but same issue... In fact, I tried all RUU available!! Also, if I can only get into recovery I can fix this thing. Hope this zip helps... Question, how do I apply this zip file if I cannot get into recovery in the first place? I'm quite sure the seller of this Evo did the latest OTA update before it crashed in middle of it and got this reboot loop in the first place. Is there a way to slipstream the extracted images of this zip into the latest RUU in the appdata hidden file while it is running on windows? lol - sorry for all this but this issue is crazy!!! NOTE: Don't get the last security OTA update for this thing!!! It's a SECURITY UPDATE alright.. LOL!

You flash the zip through HBOOT, not recovery. Rename to PC36IMG.zip (exactly), place on sd card in no folder, and choose yes to apply update once the bootloader reads it. Again, make sure you relock first, and then hopefully the device will boot. If it doesn't, it may be normalized to the point that you can unlock and flash a custom recovery and it actually stick.
Issue continues

I tried just this, relocked and renamed, after a few seconds in Hboot, it gave several lines of 'no image', then a final 'no image or wrong image', went back to normal Hboot.
More info on my problem here.
I'm kinda have similar issue... I pulled my old Evo from box it has a-off ... When I booted up it went to home screen then just shut off by it self.. then kept bootloops .. I then tried to get to recovery it boots to HTC logo and bootloops too... I tried ruu it will still bootloops .. the reason y my phone died was because battery inside phone was bulky that's y it started.. got new battery still same problem... I'm thinking maybe ramdisk got messed up.. I can go to bootloader but that is it... What can it be? I mean if there is no solution I have another Evo I never rooted and still works...and also have Evo 4g lte. My back up phones just in case if something breaks

If it boot loops after you tried a RUU, then you have bigger problems and probably need to swap to one of your backup phones.

This could have more than one reason:
1. The ZIP file is broken
When you copy the Image to the SDCard you need to wait until the copy Job is finished.
The download itself might be broken. Try to unzip the file on your Computer just to check if the ZIP file is valid.
2. SD Card troubles
It could be that your SDCard might have a problem. I have only experience with CWM Recovery because on broken devices I only use this to fix everything.
3. Partition allignment
It could be that your current partitions are not 100% clear on your device. For this you need to install a STOCK firmware file and on the second Hand you need to do a factory default within Sense.
What error message you get when you install the ROM?
MrT69
Think I've screwed up. I tried to restore using the backup I made using TWRP. Goes the motion, the reboot message appears, I press reboot now, and it hangs at the "HTC simply brilliant" screen.
When I try turning it off, it keeps rebooting. Is there a way of accessing these backups (there are two)? Have I really screwed things, or is there a way back.......
Looking forward to hearing good news......!!

No problem !
Well copy the boot.emmc.win file to the folder on the pc where also the fastboot.exe file is.
Open a command window inside that folder, put the phone in the bootloader and type the next at the command prompt :
Fastboot flash boot boot.emmc.win
Fastboot erase cache
Then reboot the phone and check if it solved the booty problem

Your phone should be in fastboot.
Boot file should be copied to fastboot folder, then rename the file to boot.img then type commands:
1-Fastboot flash boot boot.img
2-fastboot erase cache
3-fastboot reboot
Your phone should boot now

To copy the boot file, I must be able to see the device in windows explorer. I can't. When I boot the phone, it says it can't load the master usb. Is this why? If so, what steps do I take to make the phone visable in explorer in order to copy?
Regards
Go into the recovery and mount the sdcard as a usb diskdrive in there. Then navigate to the folder and copy out the file

Mr. Hofs
YOU THE MAN!!!!! Up and working again!!
Now I'm going to continue with trying to install a custom ROM. To that end, have you any hints or tips?
Regards#
Tips :
-Make sure the battery is charged
-Make sure your hboot is high enough
-Always make a full wipe before installing a new rom
-always flash the boot.img from the specific new rom (located in the rom.zip)
That's the main guideline

Hi
I not sure I understand what you mean when you talk about Hboot being high enough?
Regards
When you enter the bootloader you see a hboot number. Can you post it here. It's probably somewhere in line of
1.12 - 1.3x

Hi guys,
I'm hoping someone can help me I'm desperate.
I have rooted my HTC One X - and i wanted to install a new ROM. Maybe about a month ago now I got stuck and left it as I had a replacement phone. Now the replacement is messed up and I need this phone back on-line so I'm pleading with someone to help me. On top of that if it wasn't bad enough I lost all my data on pc.
It a nutshell, once I successfully rooted my phone I followed some guidance online and installed clockworkmod recovery v6.0. 4.8. at the time I had then been able to connect my phone to pc and copied over the following zip files:
cm-11-20140804-SNAPSHOT-M9-endeavoru.zip and
gapps-kk-20140606-signed.zip.
I followed the instructions and wiped all data factory reset, including the partitions and wiped dalvik cache.
I then installed the ROM zip followed by the gapps zip rebooted the phone and it would not pass the white HTC screen and was perm stuck on this. I have tried everything and I'm pulling my hair out. Read so much day on end and feel like I'm just getting no where. I don't like stating threads as i normally find my answers.
I would really appreciate some support or guidance to fix this issue please.
Please see below the following is showing on my boot-loader screen. The problem I'm having is that I cant access the phone at all and it just wont connect it to the PC to allow me to copy new files over to the storage to then run via recoverymod. How can I do this please. as its just sticks.
Yesterday I read something about boot.img I then downloaded Flash_boot_33.x_0.1 and ran the install-boot windows. This has all run OKAY. After which when I reset the phone it went past the white HTC screen on to the cyanogenmod and I thought sorted, how wrong was I where I now have a blue spinning arrow, and it continues till battery dies.
This is how my boot-loader screen reads:
***unlocked***

I did also find this http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-x/help/stuck-cyanogenmod-11-bootscreen-t2815076 thread, but this needs access to the phone storage which I don't have as unable to connect to PC.
Thanks and very much appreciated.

Are you flash Philz 5.15.9 there 100% the mount sd card work tested more then 100 times. Exactly Philz 5.15.9. To flash recovery you need only fastboot
So what your saying is that I can download this flash Philz 5.15.9 and then run it via my pc through fastboot. This should then boot my phone properly.
I cant find flash Philz 5.15.9 download any links.
Thanks
Correction - found the link -
http://d-h.st/users/philz_touch/?fld_id=16046#files
Right so I have downloaded Philz 5.15.9 and I have run the exe on pc. Nothing has happened, how do I copy to sd storage or copy anything to the sd card. I am unable to get past boot screen when i turn phone on.
Yes finally sorted if anyone is interested to how, its seems like I had the wrong boot img. So from my original download folder I used fastboot to run just the boot.img and its working now, i used the below instructions step by step and used my boot img.
Result.
