Hi all, I have some problems on my gnex.
This happens because I think I have deleted some system files.
1st problem: when I install a rom at the first boot the phone gives me this error: "the application speech engine Google has locked in an unusual way"
2nd problem: when I open camera or gallery the phone gives me this error: "no external storage available"
3rd problem: sometimes the phone gives me the error: "youtube application has locked in an unusual way"
Ok...there are too much problems...just a question now: I want to reset ALL my gnex, I want to delete ALL the files there are in it. I can't do it flashing a new rom or formatting system from recovery. How can I do?
Thanks!
need more details
Without some more details on what ROM you are having these issues with, which recovery you're using, ... it's kind of difficult to help out... That aside, when you flash a new ROM, be sure to first do a full wipe through the recovery. I've flashed my phones numerous times over the years and every single time I had a problem at first boot it was because I didn't do the full wipe. Also, carefully read the instructions posted on the first (and second & third if any) thread, usually the dev explains carefully which steps are necessary to succeed.

That's odd... Maybe something wrong with the device itself in that case... To go back to stock, the easiest way by far is the GNex Toolkit. It has an option to download the Google image & lets you easily flash it.

And via gnex toolkit, with this option, all system files will be deleted?

Well that depends what you mean by that... What it will do is flash the stock ROM that is made by Google onto your device. It will replace the current installed system with the stock one. It will be like when you first got the phone, with the default ICS installed. Obviously a device without a system installed on it would be useless, unless you're looking for a new expensive paper weight of course .
If you still have the same problems after that, I'd recommend returning it to the shop you got it from for a repair/refund. Don't forget to re-lock it though if you decide to go that way .
The problem is that with root explorer i see two folder about storage: sdcard and storage>sdcard0. I think i have deleted some files in these folders. Is there a way to reset their files?
/sdcard & /storage/sdcard0 both refer to the same, namely the internal memory. No way to recover deleted data though. What exactly did you delete??

Flashing the stock image will return all your files to factory. You don't need to delete anything.

Use odin or fastboot. Kits are easier but i trust fastboot above all. And do a backup before flashing anything...tag way can restore. Then factory wipe, then format cache, then go to advanced and format dalvik, THEN flash the ROM

The toolkit uses fastboot... It just presents you with scripted menus and composes the correct command depending on your choices. Makes it a lot easier to get stuff done without having to remember all the different commands .
Are you sure? So i have to flash the stock image?
Without more info on what exactly you deleted it's hard to say. Flashing stock should work for restoring the phone though .

Ok so the last question: i remember i had imm76i when i bought the phone. I have to flash that? Where can I find?
Just use the toolkit I linked to earlier. You can make it download the latest google stock image and flash that one.

I'm a beginner, i recently asked how to install the ics leak, apparently it's seem easy, one click but i was advise to root and install cwm...
so what exactly is CWM?
can anyone give me the following guides? with the most dumbed down instruction? (like button to press, where to activate things etc.)
How to root lg android?
brief explanation of what is cwm
how to install custom rom?
- while you explain, can you explain the concept of the phone? like recovery mode does this, debugging does that.
I used to be a iphone pro, but android, i'm a noob xD .
To root, download superoneclick v2.3.2 on your computer. NOT 2.3.3 as it doesn't work. Launch it and click root. If it doesn't work the first time, keep trying. It'll work eventually. Clockwork mod is a recovery mode. In your android You download rom manager in the play store, then click on it. Click flash clockwork mod recovery inside the app. It'll give u a list of devices. Select att nitro HD. Then download ho!no!s cwm flash able leak, (its in the android development section. Download that and go back to rom manager. REMEMBER YOU DO ALL THIS IN YOUR ANDROID XCEPT FOR ROOTING WITH SUPERONECLICK. Click reboot into recovery. Click on backup and restore. Click backup in that. Wait till its done. Then go back to the main menu in cwm. Click wipe data/factory reset. Then click yes. Then when its done go and click advanced. Click wipe dalvik cache. Click yes. Then press the back button. Then go to install zip from sdcard. Click choose zip from sdcard. Then click Download.locate the zip you downloaded earlier, it should be in there. Click yes. When its done, go back to the main menu and click reboot system now. Voila, you're done. Phew this took a while.

Make sure you know where your .zip file is downloaded. You'll need to know where to find it while you're in CWM looking to "install .zip from SD card".
I'm still a noob as well. I've only flashed one rom so far, but I hope I've steered you in the right direction. My suggestions are what worked for me with my rom so you should be fine. If anyone sees errors in my advice please post so that we will all know.
well awesome man! thank you for making it bold and everything, really helpful. pretty much got everything sorted out now. the concept is pretty easy xD Much less hassle than iphone. btw, after flashing the cwm... how do you flash custom rom? xD lol. and which rom do you recommend? hono full throttle? seem like it got pretty good reviews.

Well I don't know if it's called "flashing" for CWM. It's more installing CWM with the ROM Manager app. Then once you've backed up your stock setup you can "flash" whichever rom zip you want to use.
I'm using CM9 RC1 because it had reviews of it being stable with everything working. I'm so new to this that I am hesitant to try all of the other roms that have bugs. I'll try one eventually though.
Hopefully you get a custom rom running today. :good:
the 1st thing you need to do is learn to use the search function. there's about 50+ threads on all of this, there's a repository of everything as well.

SuperOneClick has been known to take several attempts to complete. From everything I've read just keep trying. Some guys have had to try 20 to 30 times to get it done successfully. It sounds like a pain, but it's worth it.

Yes, follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671050
You only have to do this once for each computer you want to use USB mass storage on. It still sucks if you want to use it for USB mass storage on other computers, but if you only use it on one or two computers it's fine.
RIght now I am having a issue with wiping. I do a full wipe and then use a super wipe and I try to install a new rom and I get the screen after I boot up and the old boot animation comes up from the old rom it get the android is upgrading screen it finishes and i get to the home screen without signing into my google account and then my phone reboots after a while and it gets stuck at the main boot animation. I am able to get to the bootloader and recovery. I repeat doing a full factory reset and everything I just described happens again. I can't seem to get a full wipe to work properly. Anyone have any sort of idea what might be going on?
What happens if you completely re-flash the stock images and start over? That's always a good policy if you can't get a ROM to boot.

Also I can't get the phone to stay on long enough to mount my SD card. right now I am using Team Win Recovery Project I was able to flash a new recovery. It was on my sd card. I was using CWM.
1- you don't need super wipe, just wipe data /a cache
2- use the latest cmw http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31045760&postcount=457
3- make sure the ROM you downloaded is for your device (maguro=gsm / toro=verizon)

Hi there,
my mother in law is pretty upset with her Gio. She complains that it always has slowdowns and there are to many useless apps on it.
Therefore I want to get her a Custom Rooted Rom.
She mainly does:
-Of course, telephone
-Use Whats App
-Use SMS
-Wants to use a E-Mail-Client
-Use the camera
-Listens to music
Therefore I am looking for a custom Rom which lets me delete all the Useless Roms and improves the speed and the battery life of her phone. If it has a better launcher design which is not as "boring" as the one on her phone this would be a huge plus.
She uses Android 2.3.6 which is not bounded to a provider.

If you wanna install Enhanced236 (the most bugfree one), you need to install install cwm, Clock Work Mod, first. How to:
1. Make sure that you have fully charged your battery.
2. You need to download the ext4only 5.0.2.0 cwm version, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650.
3. After you have downloaded the zip, you go into recovery mode, in this case stock recovering. You do that by holding The Home Button + Power Button until the recovery gets visible.
4. Then you do click on the Apply update from sdcard, and select the cwm zip.
5. After you have flashed the zip, you should reboot your device. Here's a YouTube video on the installation process: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxjxB8P9rSU
6. After you have done that, I recommend you to take a nandroid backup. The backup will be stored on your sdcard, so you can copy the backup to your computer if you want to, just in case.
Now you have installed CWM. Let's install the ROM!
7. Download the enhanced236 from this thread. Copy the zip to the root of your sd-card, and then go into CWM. Wipe data/factory reset. After that, wipe the cache partition. NOTE! This will erase everything you have done on your phone, so make sure that you have a backup ready! After that, click on the install zip from sd-card, choose the enhanced236_06.08.2012.zip and flash it. Just follow the instructions that pops up, and then restart your phone. Leave it booting/waiting for like 5 min, and then start touching/configure the device. After doing the necessary configuring, wait another minute. And reboot. And then it's done! Wohooooo.. :victory:
Hope you like your new custom ROM! And if you have any questions, just ask! I'm glad to help!

With your help I managed to install a custom Rom, thank you very Much.
I installed Cyangemod 7 Beats Music Edition.
Unfortunately I think I made a mistake in the backup. These are the files the backup gave me: IMAGE
-With this files and the files with are still on the phone is there any change to restore her contacts?
-Additionaly she has problem with handling her Phone connected to the PC as a Mass Storage Device. Is there any (free) German software which syncs the Music, Images, Videos more easily with her phone?
My mother in law is not very good with PC, therefore the more simple the software is the better.
Thank You very much

Hi guys can i use this method to flash a custom rom to a stock Gio, my brother in law would like to have a custom rom but he don't know how. Do i need to root it ? Please help.
UPDATE:
Flash using **CWM from Freegee**( I previously recommended Philz for the updated look and features but it is SUPER inconsistent and unfortunately unreliable, I do not mean any offense to its creator/developer, it is just too much hassle and this thread is meant for easy flashing and I was already posting the work around for the Philz bootloop issue which killed the purpose of easy flashing...)
Remember to make a nandroid/backup using CWM, if you forgot to make one, PM me to help you sideload a Rom using ADB. (will save you the hassle of going through stock and go directly to any custom rom of your preference)
Hello dear people with an E980:
I'm here to share a backup I made for my personal use to avoid the hassle of having to return to stock to flash the VUPMP stable rom and deleting the recovery folder inside the Rom, pretty much in other words it's just an "easy-to-flash" backup.
Rom comes from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/opt...om-20140920-vupmp-gpro-sg3-stable-lg-t2902595
Here is the backup!, it is flashable so don't extract it, it includes a boot.img (kernel) so you can restore from any rom, no need to come from stock:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95747613655048316
MD5: f50a74eb5ceb7600d0ea609192d5c258
On this particular backup, I applied the following fixes for E980:
-Volume restore fix
-Video recording fix
-Removed a system apk which seemed to be a calendar in viet (for the sake of clean and stock look).
It is highly recommended to wipe before flashing:
-Data (without wiping data/media, if you don’t know how to do this just ask in the Q&A section or PM me!!)
-Cache & Dalvik cache
-System
-Please, don't report bugs if doing a "dirty" flash.
Special thanks to:
@datphu2811 for developing such a cool ROM
@Chairizkuro for the video recording fix
anyone who contributed with this files linked above!
Remember:
Flash at your own risk!

I did, I followed the instructions but got stuck in a boot loop and it didn't fix when I applied the aforementioned zip. I just went back to stock the normal way and everything worked out. That's just my experience though, you could have completely different results.

Can you describe your problem? What kind of bootloop did you get?
A) it kept booting to recovery (that's what the zero zip is for)
B) it kept stuck in the lg logo
If B)
Did you performed a full wipe of data (without data media), system and cache? Did the flash took an unexpected amount of time (2 seconds instead of 2 minutes)?
Additionally, why did you totted back? Didn't you made a backup first?, in case you made a backup, did the recovery rendered useless after flashing my backup?
Did you get any lokifying errors?

Please let the person answer those questions before walking away scares, I've tried my own backup several times and I assure you it works properly if following the instructions. Even further, it's common sense to do a backup even without being warned about it.
OK yeah thanks I will still try it. Thanks for making this. It looks super cool and easy.

Please use CWM from Freegee, I have been getting reports from a few friends testing on how Philz touch is being inconsistent, I'm about to update main post.

Can you please manually check the MD5 sum of your downloaded file? Let me know if you don't know how to do it I can show an easy method.

I checked the re-downloaded one and they match. I used an Md5 checker?? So am I on the right track by extracting and copying that folder to clockwork backup? Then in CWM go to Mounts and Storage and format /data, format /system, format /cache and wipe dalvik. THEN restore the folder copied earlier. Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks!!

Oh! OH! OH!!, I know what's going on, this is a flashable zip lol, you are not supposed to extract it, sorry if I provided misleading instructions so I can change them
AWESOME
Loving this ROM everything works great!!
Can't get LTE To Stick
Everything works great but the one thing bothering me is I can't seem to get Global + LTE to stick after following the steps:
- Input 5457#*988# from dial pad
- Find "Network Mode" set value "Global + LTE"
- Find "CDMA Subsciption" set value "USIM"
When I try to switch from NIV to USIM the phone instantly reboots and reverts the network back to WCDMA. Does anyone know how to fix this?
