I recently found that Google Wallet is available on Google Play, so I installed it.
When opening it says that my device is not supported. I thought I had NFC, what gives?
Has anyone gotten Google Wallet to work with the Note II?
NFC is carrier dependant. I don't believe AT&T has approved that on their network.

google wallet is carrier dependant and is not supported even though we have nfc. ATT Verizon and tmo are all pushing for isis not google wallet and isis is in trial in texas and arizona. There is currently no way to enable it on this device because the secure element is locked.
I was in Austin about a week ago and they had a lot of isis billboards around town. They are definitely shutting out google wallet for isis. It seems wrong to me to do that to Google.
carriers want a piece of the pie thats why. that is the ONLY reason they are doing this

You are right but Google Wallet is nto carrier dependent, it is not dependent on any carrier. But partly correct.

Yes also partly correct, Carriers have disabled Google Wallet in attempt to push ISIS, probably a contract deal.
I re-tweeted a comment I came across a few weeks ago on twitter to try and make some noise on this issue. I think if you want wallet, you should craft your own or retweet this.
accept @googlewallet on your devices @ATT , quit the anti-competitive blockage for @PayWithISIS. @FTCgov @TheJusticeDept

I actually already tweeted similar today, in response to an att tweet about ISIS. ATT supporting ISIS is one thing, forcing us to ONLY be able to use it and nothing else is another. Its ridiculous.

So it's been confirmed that there is a secure element for the NFC on this phone?
When I first got home with my Note II, I was using some native application, and a pop-up occurred that asked me did I want to setup a Google Wallet account. I remember being really happy to see that. Being stupid, I chose not to do it, because I didn't know if it was the exact same Google Wallet found on Google Play. Just wanted to make sure. So I declined. When I attempted to install the app from Play, that's when I got the incompatibility message others got. And so far I haven't seen the prompt to setup Google Wallet from my phone, again. I wonder what would have happened had I tried it that way?

Google wallet is the name of the "method" that you use to pay for Google Play apps (but it isn't the Google wallet app). It probably asked you that when you setup because you don't have a credit card associated with your Gmail account.
Just a guess.

That's exactly the case. I wish google had as much pull as apple when it came to OS specific stuff. The carriers have to much power
Just a quick "thought" when they got the 4g lte spectrum werent they told they are not allowed to block certain apps to not be allowed to be used on their network? If i remember correctly verizon just got super sued for that exact reason.
Wasnt the secure element on the s3 by porting from the sprint version?

also, if goggle wallet needs carrier support, why did my Gnex work with wallet on ATT? if we got an AOSP rom, would wallet work on that? im just starting to learn about the permissions this app needs and how it authenticates
My friend has a rooted aosp note 1 on at&t. He can install Google wallet but it won't run. Its blocked by At&t.

Okay, so I've become increasingly paranoid of the SE error that's been plauging various Nexus's over the internet. What I can gather from these is that the phone was either:
1.Not properly wiped between ROMs
2.They tried restoring Google Wallet from a backup
3.They flashed the App from the ZIP/APK (Unofficial)
4.They used a preinstalled version of Google Wallet on the flashed ROM
So, now that we can officially install Google Wallet from the Market, do you think that it should be safe to switch between ROMs? I used Google Wallet on my first GNex and it's been one of the best parts about this phone. I would really not like to lose this functionality on a device I dropped $600 on...
Yeah, thing is when you "reset" wallet to flash a new rom it locks you out of prepaid. Some chuckle-head with creative fear mongering has got the bloggers excited over some security crap. If I lost my device I would be more worried about my device that the Happy Meal they could buy at McDonalds with my prepaid card!

If you get the "secure element is not responding" error you're dine with Google wallet until you get a new phone. I'm in that position and that's what Google and Samsung told me

well i dont know if this has been found out before, but here is my story
i got the hong kong nexus gsm back when it came out here in dallas tx. flashed it to stock google yakju. i used the wallet app apk and everything worked great. when the update came out it stopped working.
go to settings, apps, all. go to wallet, clear data. go to google account manager, clear data. go to google services framework, clear data. once u do that go to about phone check for update. it will have some weird 1969 date. once it checks open wallet and now it works. only thing is pre paid error when adding card
so i flashed to the new takju and same thing. followed thoes steps and same thing.
as far as i can get with wallet
I'm thinking of buying a galaxy nexus, but I'm on at&t cell provider called straight talk (mvno).
The only question in my mind right now is if I will be able to use google wallet under the MVNO
It would be great if someone was in my same circumstances and give me some information. Any help would do.
Thanks in advance

Google Wallet is just an app and its not Network/Carrier driven.
I understand that, but there was an article in engadget.com about it working on Tmobile, and they seemed surprised.
It COULD have been cause they got it from the Tmobile google play store (different networks have different play stores)
I just wanted to make sure, that I could use the NFC before I buy the phone

Google Wallet was blocked in the past in the store. However, after it's installed, I haven't heard anything about its usage being blocked in any way.
It's not blocked in the US for the GSM version as of yesterday.

so can I sum it up by saying that Google wallet is dependant on hardware only, and that if it works on one (US) Carrier, it should work on any other?
Please correct any inaccuracies in that statement. Please point out ANY inaccuracies.

That is incorrect, cause skyrocket has NFC, icecream sandwich (or legitimate GB) , and can install apps. This is still not enough to use google wallet. It's said that the reason is, that it doesn't have a "secure element"

However it works fine over wifi.
This is what I've learned from my experience. Yes theoretically it should work. But it doesn't. If anyone has tried and it works, then please share how did you work it out.

Your problem is most likely your apn is not set up correctly. When I first started using wallet with H2O wireless I had much the same problem. After deleting the apn's that auto populated and creating new ones with the correct settings my problems went away. I have since tried red pocket and Tmobile prepaid as well and have had no issues using wallet on any of them.

Would you guys be kind enough to grab the right APN settings and post it here for me. I have factory Reset my device twice and still failed. So I'm hoping its only a APN problem only as well.
By the way I have ATT version of SIM Card from straight talk

I've tried resetting the wallet app. I've restored to stock, flashed factory images. I'm unrooted. Can seem to get this fixed. Any advice?

I have the GSM version...
So I called Google Wallet. They told me that the UNLOCKED GSM Galaxy Nexus is NOT SUPPORTED to run on Google Wallet! The new app makes this so. ONLY the Sprint version of the phone is supported! This can't be right can it? Two guys in Google Wallet support said this, including the manager. Any advice? Is this really true?

GSM should be supported despite what they said.
Beamed from Maguro
I use it on unlocked GSM on T-Mobile.
Right! I know. So I'm getting this error I posted about whenever I try to setup. Makes NO sense whatsoever. I've reset my phone like 10 times and doesn't work. Tried adding different cards, etc. Tried to setup without my sim card inserted even! Still no go.
just set mine up. GSM unlocked phone from google. Unsupported Device Policy message on top of screen during set up. Set up went ok, it picked up my card number automatically. "Learn more" next to unsupported device msg linked to message:
"Some users may disable important security mechanisms in order to gain system-level "root" access to their device. We strongly discourage doing so if you plan to use Google Wallet. We are unable to support devices with unatuhorized operating systems as the security layers of the device may be limited."
After setup it starts and appears to be functioning, but nothing to try it on. Still has the unsupported device msg also.
Unlocked and rooted my phone, running stock 4.1.
So some of you have actually made purchases with wallet? I have tried at different stores like Best Buy and Home Depot and it connects, but won't let me make my purchase. I have that $50 from buying the phone I need to spend, but can't get it to work anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions?
Me too, on Sprint rooted phone

I think the Wallet guys have no clue what they are doing, support-wise. It's a massive fail imo
Just installed Wallet on my unlocked, rooted Galaxy Nexus. Everything went fine. Credit card added with no problem. Says I'm all set up, but haven't used it yet. I get the "Unsupported device" message but I'll believe that if and when it fails. Note that if you have certain parts of Google apps frozen, uninstalled, or blocked with a firewall, Wallet won't install. PS: Take anything a sales rep says with a grain of salt.
Anyone figure out how to get it working over ATT?
I thought it was good to go, but after turning on NFC and downloading the app, it says not compatible.
Which is weird since its an unlocked phone.
Do you need to turn on NFC while downloading? Did you try downloading with NFC off?
Maybe either the frequency or software might not be compatible.

Is anyone else having an issue with NFC. Mine wont switch on. When i tick the box, it automatically unticks. I did copy down a load of app data so maybe i copied over a system one automatically. Any ideas?
Edit: Uninstalled the re-installed Google Wallet. Went in to apps -> NFC service. Cleared all the data and stopped the service. Rebooted the phone and it worked fine. Chose Google Wallet as wallet provider, turned the screen off, then turned it back on and now i'm back to the same problem.

So, by all the posts here, Google Wallet does not work without some hackery? I find that interesting, considering it seems that the phone intentionally supported it. I'd love to know who dropped the ball here, Sony or Google. I would love to have Google Wallet working on my ZL, but I refuse to root my phone and alter the build.prop to get it there.
It's definitely Google's fault here. They update Google Wallet every so often with new handset support. Maybe in the next update...maybe.

I kind of figured that would be the case. I hope Google decides to support the ZL as having a non-carrier branded phone (and thus choices like Google Wallet) was half of the allure of the ZL for me.
I went and tried to purchase Kainy from the Play Store and it said the phone doesn't support carrier billing and made me add a cc to Google Wallet in order to pay for it.
I didn't have this problem previously, I'm currently on the latest update 4.1.2 (June 2013 release with stock injected root).
Anyone else notice this?

I've been having this problem for almost two months now. It started by declining my purchases made with my T-Mobile account with an error code [BM-CPE-16] then it declined me without the error code. Fast forward to today, it gave me a pop-up message saying it was trying to verify my mobile phone account, then decline me to then telling me it couldn't verify it and to try again later. Now the carrier billing option is gone altogether. I thought it was because my GS 4 was rooted, but my sister's phone which isn't rooted at all has no carrier billing option either.
I haven't been in contact with Google Play/T-Mobile today, but over the past couple months I've been in contact off and on with them and they said it's some sort of tecnical issue or something between the two and they are working on getting it resolved, and they had no official time frame as to when it will be fixed. I may bug them tomorrow though just to seen if this is a T-Mobile wide issue. Hope that helps you a little bit?
