Depends. If it has an unlockable bootloader through HTC's dev program, it's on my radar. If not, nope - no hardware in the world can make me use Sense and not get updates from Google.
Also, since I just got my VZW Gnex at launch last year, the phone would cost me $600 out of pocket - so it very well could be cheaper to get a Nexus 4, pay my ETF fee, and go to T-mobile with their $30 / mo plan.
Or.. I'll just tolerate my not-a-nexus for another year. We'll see.

You know, I didnt even think about the bootloader. I'll have to check back in on that. I don't care if its factory locked so long as Devs can work around it.
I too have to figure out how to overcome not being eligible, but where there is a will there is a way. Figured it out before and I'll figure it out again.
But yeah, sense, it's a bit outdated anymore
If I can afford to stay on Verizon I'm totally getting one.

Actually looks good, and I do like HTC. However, I really don't need a bigger phone and the battery is a little small for the size of screen and processor. Sadly with Verizon's new pricing I will likely be going to sprint or T-Mobile. I can't afford another $40 a month ($960) for less data than I use now AND pay $200 for an on contract phone. I love their 4g, but that is just ridiculous.

Deadmau5!!! Love the sig, seen him 5x I believe. Great artist, but not the best to see live IMHO. Sorry for the interruption, back to your regularly scheduled program
Looked at it, and it is nice, but it's just so hard to think about leaving AOSP. I still love my nexus and will probably hold onto it until it stops being supported lol.
And Deadmau5... Lol. Its the same 45 seconds looped over for 4 minutes lol. ALL OF HIS SONGS. Ahhh there's so much better music in the genre.
I was seriously considering getting one because I have an upgrade on my plan and I'm getting antsy after a year haha. But then I saw the battery is only 2050mah for a 5" 1080p quadcore phone. Its battery is most likely going to be horrific. Now I'm either considering the Galaxy S3 or just waiting until after the holidays and seeing what new phones come.

Agreed for his shows, his transitions are waaaay too long and boring. Disagree for songs in general. He is one of the few with amazing musical talent compared to some who throw $hit at the wall and see what sticks. Have you heard Strobe? One of my all time favs

Yeah, good point. I had the Thunderbolt and boy was that a battery hog. And at least it had a removable battery. Maybe I should see what the first wave of people have to say.
Suddenly a wild mau5thread appears.

Even if the DNA has an unlockable bootloader, I would still be leaning towards the Galaxy Note II.
+1 for Deadmau5
If I'm not mistaken, the DNA does not have removable storage and only has about 11gb of usable space. That will be a big turn off for folks who enjoy having multiple roms, music and such. That's a shame that a phone with such good specs and hardware would be handicapped with out removable storage.
Just saw that the DNA is coming with the amazon ecosystem integrated. I'm guessing it's gong to be like a kindle phone now. Huge pass!

16GB of storage and no SD slot is way too small for me. I'll wait til the next nexus.
Sorry for off topic, but Strobe is like THE only exception. Even though it is sooooo old and played out lol. Listen to Moar Ghosts n Stuff. Take the first 45 seconds of the song. Loop it. Now compare to how he released it. If you loop at the right time, it's exactly the same. XD. Same can be said for 99% of his songs. Seriously, have a listen. Idk lol to me Deadmau5 is the Apple of the electronic music world. In the sense that it's ALWAYS the EXACT same thing over & over. Nothing changes, just a tweak here and there. Like Apple, he had a good run back in the day, but there are currently much, much better options. Besides, I thought only 15 year old sluts rolling on molly listened to deadmau5..?
Oh and I didn't realize the storage was so low. Definitely not getting it now. I'll just keep this then.

About a year ago I ordered this very phone I have in my hands. It showed up like a month later, but still.
The smartphone market is moving exponentially, and our options are smashing through the roof and amazing us monthly.
With all this in mind, what do you think you'll end up doing with your Incredible when you decide to upgrade? Hand it down? Sell it? Keep it as a spare? Not upgrade at all until its 100% useless?
If times are hard, I am gonna sell it for whatever its worth to put toward a new phone. With superphones hitting the 300 dollar mark, I can't justify not selling it. If I have the cash though, ill just keep it as a developer phone. I also have an idea for a custom interface for my car.

well im locked in till march of 2012 so Ill probably wait to till the summer of 2012 to make a choice on an upgrade. I want a 4g phone bigger screen like the thunderbolt and a daul core or possible quad core by then. If I had an upgrade to use now I'd get the thunderbolt bc its everything I want except for the dual core. I have a big decision to make in the summer though bc my family and I might switch to another carrier. I love Verizon customer service but Im paying $350 a month for six lines and only 3 lines are smart phones. But if I stay then I'll keep the Dinc in case I dont like my new phone and have to trade it away. lol
I think I'll keep my DInc as a dev phone, or to mess around with whatever ROMs are still available. I am locked in until March 2012 myself, but I may upgrade sooner, depending on desire/finances.

As the thread states my friend just got a Nexus on contract and is using it to pay off his O2 contract as he already has a sim free iPhone 4S.
I can sell my GS2 for around £200-230 so just need to pay the difference to get it up to £300
Played around with it a tiny bit and it looks ok but not really sold on it however I do love the pure google experience (previous nexus one owner)
Good deal or not?
Yeah! Honestly, I got this phone yesterday and you will NOT be disappointed. The screen, the smoothness of ICS, it's just a freaking monster man. And You're only going to be paying around £70-£100 for the phone so you can't go wrong!
Edit: Just read you already own a GS2. I would not be so sure then, it depends on how desperate you are to get ICS, because once that hits the GS2 the only thing that will be to the Nexus' advantage is the screen and dev support, which is more than enough for me to go for the Nexus lol.
Decisions decisions....
Get it! and sell it me small profit for yourself
It's really a beast! Some of my favorite things are the screen, led, and the software buttons they are geinus!
Honestly, if I were you, I would wait until next year Q2 2012 when it is rumoured that quad core phones that are coming out. I'm pretty sure there are already ICS roms for the Galaxy S2 and you're getting it next year anyway from Samsung. However, I haven't had any experience with the Nexus so I can only tell you from what I think, I haven't actually compared the fluidity and smoothness of both phones.

nice signature. lol.
It kind of depends. Since you already have a GS2 it's not really an upgrade but a lateral move from one phone to the next. The GN2 will definitely outlive the GS2 as far as official updates and dev support is concerned, but the GS2 already has plenty dev support right now and will likely have it for as long as you own/use the phone. The screen on the GN is way better, the processor is just as good, the GPU and camera on the GS2 are the only real advantages so it pretty much evens out in my book. It really is going to come down to personal preference. The reason I jumped to the nexus line was because I was a Vibrant owner and never saw a froyo update on my phone while Samsung promised and promised. The dev community and custom gone were the only things keeping me happy with my phone. About a week after the Nexus S was released I walked into a Best Buy and put my phone running a custom froyo rom with an overclocked processor up against a bone stock display model and the display model Nexus won every battle. I bought the phone a few days later and haven't looked back since. Now there are a few caveats to the story, one being that I had a variant of the GS and that Samsung had indeed finished the froyo update about two months before the release of the Nexus S (just not for the American variants) but at the end of the day, the Nexus S is going to receive an official update of ICS and the GS isn't despite them having nearly all the same hardware components. The devs are still there and they will give the phone a proper update but it would be easier with an official kernel to play with. Just my thoughts. Personally I'd go with the GN unless you plan on playing multiple high end games that require you to have a better GPU.

The stock google experience is swaying it for me right now and it looks like I will have to pay a minimum of £80 to £100 + selling my GS2.

Actually its a very very good deal. Its 429 + vat which is more like £520. Also considering its from his friend and not some random stranger he can be pretty sure there's not some weird fault with it or something dodgy. Its pretty close to having a brand new phone with £220 off
Personally for around £100 I would probably upgrade. I agree with other posts its more of a lateral move, but the SGS2 is soooo common now, especially in the UK, and its coming up to a year old soon. The Galaxy Nexus will stay 'new' for a while. Also remember the GN resolution is the native resolution for ICS and what it was designed for. Although other phones with lower resolutions will also get ICS i'm sure there'll be some compromises somewhere.
Anyway its all opinion, but for me i'm slightly for the GN. BTW I upgraded from a N1 to a Galaxy Nexus, and my only experience of a SGS2 is 5 minutes with my friends one at the pub.
Interesting as o2 would let me pay off my remaining 2 months of my contract so i could get the galaxy nexus earlier.
They told me they do not allow this anymore and for that they have lost a customer, they never even tried to do me a deal.
I pay £41 a month for unlimited everything on my new contract which would mean i will pay £984 over the 24 month contract.
Hes going to be well out of pocket once he pays off his contract is o2 let him.
Text my mate to say I am going for the GN so now it's just down to when I go and get some cash for my phone and when I get to see him next.
Good timing as well as he was considering selling it tomorrow!
I bought a galaxy nexus and returned to my s2...
Only the screen is better on this phone and the new os, everything else isnt worth spendig money on it...

It's costing my friend around £200 to pay off O2 and he managed to get the GN for FREE on 12 months at vodafone so he will actually make around £100 from this and will also be on a 12 month agreement not 18-24 months.
On o2 he pays £37-38 a month and Vodafone will be £41 a month so makes sense really for him to sell it and for me to buy it lol
$300 Unlocked

hell, when my contract with T Mobile expire on Jan I'll just drop them and get this baby.
LG made, kinda not excited, but for $300 this thing sounds like a steal. But comparing this with $600 for SGS 3 or Note II, the choice if obvious.
Edit: The lack of microSD sucks. But I can live with it (probably)
Hmm, I was hoping for an HTC One X+, but this sounds more exciting.
I looked at this- I would rather have a microSD slot, otherwise, it looks like fun. For the price, it's a fair consideration for a Nexus device. In full disclosure, I did just buy a Relay 4G- it's still unopened in the box.
However, I am planning on getting a Nexus 10, even without the microSD.
I thinking about it. For the Specs and that price its hard to past.

Another negative about a non removable battery is if something is hanging your phone you can't pull the battery. I kind of like the looks of the phone but no sd card slot? Kinda odd. I have come to accept the fact that the G3 is not coming. If I have to go without a physical keyboard then getting a Nexus device is the next best thing. That said, I can get this off contract, and if Tmobile gets a high end phone with a physical keyboard in a year or so I can get back on contract to get it.

You never need to do a battery pull. Read up on how to hard shut off devices without removable batteries (like all tablets).
Every single device I've ever bought has been off contract and buying from Google is just like any other. My Nexus 7 is great, but while my Samsung Galaxy S III isn't Google, I run the exact same rom on it as I do on my n7. It was also quicker/easier to root and install a custom rom on my sgs3, plus it has 80gb internal storage (16gb+64gb, am using 42gb of that space as of this post) vs the extremely limited space on my n7.
There are more accessories for the sgs3 than the n7 and development wise roughly the same roms (maybe more if you count touchwiz).
Granted my sgs3 on Android 4.1.2 has a bug my nexus 7 doesn't have (which doesn't affect me), but still those possibilities are important to consider.
I guess my point is that passing on a non Google device for a nexus really isn't that obvious (to me anyway). I have more storage, faster network speeds, a removable battery (multiple ones even), and greater accessory selection. I use the same rom for both devices and both are unlocked and off contract. However, and this is a big deal for some people, I paid probably $200 more for my sgs3 than I would for the nexus 4.
Always consider the potential developer community but more importantly consider the manufacturer and the phone itself. Personally I've never had a good experience with LG hardware in the past, so if I were considering the n4 I would have to see tests and testimonials of people using it in real world situations, but there are some things that scare me just from what's been put out there already.
How fragile is that glass back? The one on the Optimus G broke within days on a reviewer who babied his device and had no idea how it happened.
Can the wireless charging work with a case? I know all phones with inductive charging currently can't..
Lastly, how bad on the battery is that new screen of theirs? The Optimus G (same screen) got a lot of criticism for its bad battery life and excessive screen drain. Without the ability to swap batteries I can see it being a deal breaker for some.
Those are just my personal thoughts and opinions based on the 5 android devices I've owned though. Time will ultimately tell.

Anyone considering selling their t989 and switching to the Nexus 4? With the N4 only $300, and our phones still going for $250-$300 on eBay, I see no reason not to.
I am, I don't like this phone. Not sure if I am taking that route though. I can't even get it to sell on Craigslist. Mines perfect condition, no scratches anywhere not even on the screen and kept in the D30 case. :/ oh well, any Nexus sure beats this phone.
I have mine listed on Ebay right now actually at 260 and it has a bid. Includes case and 8 gig card. I'll be happy to shell out roughly 100 extra for the 16GB nexus 4 after it sells. I didn't think to Sim unlock mine, but seems like the Sim unlocked ones are selling for a bit more if you're planning on listing it.

Funny you brought this up,
I used to own a HTC Sensation 4G. I got it for $180 and it was only 2 month old. I used it for 4 months and realized a few issues with it.
1. Sense sucks (I hate it and Sense on the Sensation is buggy)
2. Getting it S-OFF is difficult and I almost bricked it attempting so I never tried it again.
3. Charger is in a dumb place (on left side of phone)
4. HTC would not confirm a Jellybean update (made me feel like it wasn't getting it)
So I decided to part with it. I always wanted a Nexus for the stock Google experience. I wanted a LG Nexus 4 but didn;t want to wait nor pay $300+ for a phone with no expandable memory. But one day I was browsing craigslist hoping to find a used Galaxy Nexus ( Hard to find in my area ) and I found a guy selling a S2. He had it listed for $300 new in box. I thought to myself "That's not a bad deal since T-mobile wants $450 retail". So I set up a meeting with the guy. The phone was used but hardly. No scratches and all the wrapping on it minus the screen protector. It was a 9.9/10 only because it had been used. So I low balled the guy hardcore offering him $200 cash. HE TOOK IT! So now I own a Clean ESN, still under warranty, like brand new, Galaxy S2. I am glad I made this decision. And plus Samsung already confired it would get Jellybean. I am happy

That's strange really cuz I use SKYPE on my n7. We must be able to get wifi calling working too...

I'm seriously thinking about the Nexus 4. I love the pure Android N7, which increases my temptation (makes me want an N10 too!). The lack of TMO wi-fi calling is a problem though, as I live behind a bit of granite, so my call reception sucks at home. I work from home and my mobile is my primary work phone. Gotta be able to make and receive calls.
I've just been looking at cell signal boosters and what S2s & MyTouch 4Gs are going for on eBay. Might pass the S2 to my daughter and sell her crappy MT4G. Then I'll probably switch to a TMO Value Plan and save some monthly $$. I think I'm going to try a cell booster this week. If that works, I'll probably go for the N4 one way or another.
I'm dumping this t989 asap. I can still sell it for 200-300 beans easy. The Nexus 4 is an upgrade in evey conceivable way. I sold my Nexus S 4g for this phone and I regret it. Can't wait to be aboard the Nexus train again. It's gonna be a great ride.

Well might as well put my two cents in on this. as i spent today thinking about selling my phone on ebay and buying it as well. But then i realized alot of things about the phone that i dislike that i never knew until i dug deeper. Just a few things, that helped me in my final decision to wait till official jelly bean for sgs2. It will improve our phone quite a bit i believe.
1. no wifi calling, other then some free app that gives you a different phone number... worthless in my eyes.
2. the battery isn't removable, so when the battery dies so does your phone.
3. the glass backing is extreme fragile one slight drop and its cracked, front is durable.
4. heard poor battery performance, i know this is still debatable (firmware, usage) but, with no option to switch it out... risky.
5. washy colors on the display, even tho the resolution is very great.
6. no sd card expansion, i mean who are you apple?

The nexus 4 looks like a great phone and the price is right too.. But no expandable storage is a downer..looks like another nexus phone that I won't be buying
My Galaxy S II is up on eBay now as well. I loved the phone for the year I had it (longest I've ever kept any phone) and it's even more awesome now that I put CM10 on it, but I'm going Nexus only from now on. Can't beat that $350 price tag. While I would prefer a 32GB version, I've never gotten close to using 16GB on any of my phones.

Yup same here.
I think everyone who goes from a Nexus device to one that's locked down with carrier bloat ends up regretting that decision.
It'll be amazing getting updates as soon as they're out again. Not to mention the crazy dev support it'll have. This phone will make a great paperweight/desk ornament or backup in case I break another phone, lol.

The lack of an SD slot isn't an issue for me. All my music is on GMusic, and I don't really store anything on my phone but ROMs and ROM related things... so 16GB will be plenty. What does everyone store on their phones that needs so much space anyway? Even if I wanted to store my entire music collection, that's 150GB+... cloud storage sort of gets rid of the need for that. With 16GB, you can even store a few seasons of TV shows... so again, what are you guys doing with your phones? Torrenting?
Already sold mine for 250 on craigslist.can't wait for the 13th. Tho im stuck using this mytouch till then

the N4 loos really nice. but I think since I will be sticking with t-mobile (especially since it was working fine during and after Sandy), I rather go with the Galaxy Note 2 as it will be good for at least 1 year and not to mention the software can be upgraded to use the tmobile LTE when it goes live.

I guess the price of the nexus justifies the lack of SD...but i store alot of music/work stuff on my phone. A nandroid backup is 2 gigs on its own.
I could probably get by on a nexus 4, my carrier(telus) is dead silent about it though, and theyre CDMA...so i dont even think I can buy one for telus from google.
Howdy! Thunderturd user here with a January upgrade, looking for advice.
I've come to the conclusion that Verizon's ROM update system is crippling. My formerly flagship phone is running Twisted's cobbled together ICS ROM a year after its official release. This makes me want to take hostages.
It seems the only solution is to get my junk straight from the source. So I want a Nexus, but I've got a few problems with the new one.
1. Battery. I need a removable one.
2. SD card. I've got 20+ gigs of music on my current craptacular device.
3. I have to come out of pocket for the full amount of the phone. I want Verizon to take a hit on this. If I'm paying the full monthly price, I want them to bleed on the hardware.
So talk to me about your phone. I'm thinking about rocking a Galaxy Nexus until Google puts out something more practical than the 4 and selling my upgrade on ebay.
Any flaws in my thinking?

The gnex is an absolutely fantastic phone. Removable battery, extended oem batteries available (with NFC capability), 32gb on the VZW version, google play music cloud storage, excellent developer support, good accessories, nice screen, quality camera and skimmed down, speeded up android. I'm rocking a 16gb gsm gnex straight from the play store and I absolutely adore it. Bought it 1 month before the Nexus 4 dropped and I have no regrets. LG has been terrible to me and I personally think in terms of overall usability, the gnex trumps the 4.
The gnex, like I said, has excellent developer support and have been experimented with for over a year. We have this device figured out here in these forums and it can do everything you want it to do.
I say pull the trigger with a gnex. Granted it doesn't have the sd card slot, but there are ways around that.
Good luck
If the SD card is a must you shouldn't even be here. Go with the S3 or Note 2.
I'm looking at the prices on the VZW website and I think you should go with Amazon if you want to spend less on an upgrade. VZW is gouging the hell out of you. 50 bucks on contract for a pre-owned Gnex? 100 bucks for a new one? Gimme a break. I can find one for 200 bucks now and 250 in great condition.

gnex is a great choice.. i guess the main issue for you would be no sdcard but verizon has a 32gb version that you could get
Sprint also comes with 32GB version & ext. battery available for just the cost of shipping (see amazon wireless for good deal now)!

i find this requirement insanely funny.
verizon doesnt take a hit on the hardware cost. its factored into their plan prices. if you think them discounting the phone alot hurts them, you are delusional
A Nexus phone is always worth it IMO.

Honestly I would go with one thats for sale used on swappa.com . There is one *cough* *cough* in Mint condition for $235 thats the 32GB and it is a refurb VZW sent, so it is the same as if you bought it straight from VZW right now except with 32GB memory.
I too had a TurdBolt and I couldnt stand it. The Galaxy Nexus is a spectacular device for whats around today. If your buying off contract right now I would stay away from a S3 or NoteII unless you have $600 to throw away.
In the lines of 2nd poster:
Gnex big storage capability = OTG
And for us, early adopters, it has been a landmark device; it will keep serving us well, OS-wise, for at least 2 more major versions.

Get the GNex. It's a great device even if stuck on Verizon's reliable yet ever so slow update network. I'll be jumping ship when my contract expires in another year, but for now it's a great device and will be for the foreseeable future.

Thats what im doing right now. Im switching to the GSM for cost primarily. Honestly the slow updates arent an issue because the device has an amazing developer support.
Thanks guys, you sold me.
So should I use my upgrade on an S3 (or other) and sell it, or save the upgrade? Is Verizon going to be offering a Nexus device in the future?

Yeah?
How about this time next year?
It's not the hardware I have an issue with, it's the crushing ineptitude of the upgrade system. My TB was the S3 in early 2011 and have been waiting for ICS for a year. 12 fvcking months.

Idk if you'll find a phone that's guaranteed upgrades on big red. Even the nexus was bsed with. The s3 and note 2 are pretty good in that area. At least samsung sends the update. I don't think the rezound will end up with JB.
