[SOLVED]Rooting Desire on Windows 8? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I´ve recently got a desire and I tried to root it using the unrevoked method, but with no luck.
I´ve managed to install the USB drivers, but the phone still seems to be not recognized. (Left with "Waiting for a device")
Yes I´ve turned on USB Debugging.
But everytime I connect my device, I see some strange "ADB" unrecognized device with an exclamation mark.
Tried to update "its" drivers with the drivers from unrevoked, no luck.
edit:I also tried to s-off with revolutionary, same problem ("Waiting for a device")
Any suggestions ?
Or other method how to root Desire on W8?
I´m using Windows 8 64bit.
HTC Desire is 2.2.2.
Thanks
EDIT: SOLVED thanks to k3lcior and his url. Thank you.

Try to download and install HTC Sync to get USB drivers from HTC. Then uninstall HTC Sync while leaving the USB drivers that came along with it installed. But no guarantee this will even work on Win8

You may want to take a look on this, especially "Edit2".

Thanks for all suggestions, I was able to get fastboot working, somehow. But that´s pretty much everything.
Btw. There´s a strange problem with HTC Sync as well. I tried to install HTC Sync, just for testing.
HTC Sync doesnt seem to be detecting my phone as well.
Do you think these 2 problems might be connected?

HTC Sync and Vista 32

Hello everyone
Great forum. Was able to root/nand unlock and flash DC with ease from all of the information here, even with the EVO being my first smartphone. Thank you all.
Now my question is about trying to get the HTC Sync to work with my Windows Vista. I have Home Premium and nothin I have tried is working. The computer sees the HTC and I have tried several drivers, but it will not initialize the driver and HTC Sync won't connect. I can run as a HDD and that works fine, but trying to sync or charge only will not allow me to run CMD tools.
I have the beautiful Scetched Android boot image through using a root file manager, but would like to create a custom splash screen.
And I guess I need to sync to flash.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Criim
Are you running the latest version of the software? Haven't heard any specific issues with Vista 32. Also check that you aren't using any kind of extension cable between your computer and your USB cable. Try another USB port as well.
Here's a link to HTC Sync:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/
Edit: Also, just to make sure, you are not using HTC sync to apply a custom boot video right? Cause as far as I know, you don't use it for that. I've never used HTC sync for anything other than the USB drivers for ADB. I thought once you made the video that you applied it via either a ROM image or by uploading it using ADB, HTC SYNC is just a backup/syncing program for the phone.

It is the USB cable that came with the EVO plugged right into the computer and have tried 2 different slots. I am not really trying for the sync. It is just a good indicator for if the driver is working correctly, which it isn't for some reason.
I just wanted it to connect so I can run commands at the CMD prompt.
I already have the boot video and root/nand unlocked through file managers and the term emu. Now I want to flash a new splash screen, but to do that I think I *have* to flash it from the PC. If you know of a way to do it in some other way, I'd love to hear how.
Going to take a nap, but was thinking about trying to uninstall my AntiVirus, just in case one of the services was screwing with the driver. I had it turned off, but it might have had a service that was still there.

Edit:
Well I tried unistalling my AVG, rebooting into safe mode to remove any instances of the HTC driver, and then did a fresh install of the above file. Still shows an error in the device manager with my EVO plugged in.
"Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)"
I even tried to plug it into all 8 of my USB slots just in case.
I'm stumped.

I'm having the same problem. I just rooted my Evo and now I can't connect to HTC Sync at all. Device manager shows "My HTC" installed properly. Evo connects to pc fine but times out when trying to connect to HTC Sync.
I've tried downgrading to HTC Sync 2.0.31. I'm currently trying with 2.0.40 with same results. Nothing.

rooting wildfire 2.2.1, help plz

Can´t understand whats wrong.. i have a wildfire with 2.2.1 hboot 1.01.0001.
I downloaded the program for windows and succesfully typed betakey, after that nothing happens.. it´s just waiting. On my other computer i even can´t do the beta step, it just says "waiting for device"
Does my previosly adb drives with my rooting of htc legend effect the connection with my wildfire?
Tried win 32 and 64bit, restarted the phone and computers without luck. Also tried run as admin
You sound like you need the drivers for the wildfire. If you connect via USB can you then use adb to see the device. Use the command adb devices. If nothing comes up then you don't have the drivers.

Maybe you should read this first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035
Edit: after reading the correct guide i succesfully got s-off, but then when i downgraded to 2.1, my touch doesn´t work anymore :S what the f* do i do now? Adb doesn´t work but i have connection to my pc thrue bootloader. the usb unit android 1.0 pop up
Edit: Finally, now i have a rooted wildfire with cm7 =) The touch problem was solved by installing another RUU "RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.37.405.1_Radio_13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25_release_151892_signed" After that i could easily root with unrevoked =)

[Q] Android 1.0 USB driver needed

Hi!
Trying to unlock my phone (htcdev.com) I get stuck in Step Nr. 8 (fastboot oem get_identifier_token). The cmd says "wating for device".
As I could see my computer does not recognize my phone properly in HBOOT. My phone is called (in the devices view) "Android 1.0" and has this yellow exclamation mark because the drivers are not installed. Windows can't find the drivers..
Why do I have this problem? Latest HTC Sync is installed and the phone is normally recognized properly!
I had same problem. just unplug and replug the usb cable, It will go ahead!
atleast worked on mine!
Does not work here =(
check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700183
Thanks, but I guess this is HTC Desire specific... I'll give it a try though...
Install HTC Sync that gives you the drivers then just uninstall it?
The solution was that I had to manually tell Windows that it should take the HTC USB drivers (that actually were already installed) =)
Phone is unlocked now, woohooo
Good luck customising your phone

[Q] Device not recognized

Hello,
For some reason my HTC Desire Z isn't recognized in Windows anymore.
It appears as Unknown Device in the Dev Man.
I have tried uninstalling all the drivers, and using the Google ADB drivers, but they won't install. I have also tried the HBOOT drivers, but when I am in HBOOT screen and plug the phone it won't even say HBOOT USB PLUG...
Funnily, when I start up the computer, before Windows is loaded, my phone says USB debugging, USB connected, and all of that - and as soon as Windows comes up, these things go away and the phone isn't recognized.
Please help!
Simone
Try downloading and installing HTC Sync (from HTC's website). That has USB drivers in it, which should work.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
I did, but for some reason it won't overwrite the old driver. Maybe something is wrong hardwire-wise, because I get "Unknown Device" and not "Android" in the Dev Man. However, the USB connection seems to come up on the phone before Windows starts up (weird?)
Give me a few hours and when I get home I should be able to upload the driver package I use for mine.
This is the drivers I use.

Manualy update the drivers to your phone in devices, properties. Also there is a windows application that can search out all the drivers on your system called usb search or something to that order, you can stop your phone from seeking these drivers manualy and set up the proper ones

Oh, thank you for all your replies.
It turns out that my cable must have been defective. I tried to manually install the drivers and really nothing worked, so that's where the problem was.
Thank you again!

HTC one vx fastboot trouble

Hey guys, I have an HTC one vx. After searching for about a week about my problem, I am posting on here.
I have been trying to root so I can get the tethering app, and custom roms, etc. When I attempt to connect any computer in my house (windows 8,7) to my in fastboot mode HTC, windows pop up saying... The USB device that you have connected has malfunctioned. It shows up in device manager with a yellow arrow over it. I've tried installing HTC sync, uninstalling that, installing pdanet drivers, updating in device manager, manually updating in device manager from android SDK and pdanet directories, tried usbdevview, tried switching cables, USB ports, everything. Any suggestions? I'm at a loss of what to do. Adb works when booted up though. Most annoying problem ever.
Boot into windows 7 uninstall htc manager and it will ask "want to remove all drivers with it" or something like that, click yes then from there install latest HTC manager from HTC site, once installed plug in Phone and HTC manager should give proper drivers
