Anyone know how to disable this so it doesnt auto dim when I enter the email app or browser? I have the display set on auto brightness, not sure why those apps are acting differently.
I would suggest ditching stock browser. Chrome, dolphin and boat offer superior service. Good luck

But its also happening in the stock email app where I access my aol account, yea I still have one.
*Nevermind, it was the power saver mode settings.

Basically I'm looking for an app or a setting or anything that will allow me to customize when and where auto rotate actually gets used. As apposed to just having it enabled or disabled.
Where I could enable auto rotate to only work in browser, games and gallery and keep disabled for everything else so it stays portrait all the rest of the time.
Could the option be coded into a kernal like the voodoo sound control app/feature or BLC?
Any help would be appreciated
This is exactly what I am using. I use tasker app for that. Get it from the market. It can do much more than just this.

+1, I am using tasker for that too but it doesn't really tie in the autorotate to the apps themselves, but rather it enables/disables auto-rotate based on the apps. This means that I cannot specific auto-rotate to work only with, eg gmail but not other apps. I can only turn auto-rotate on when gmail is launched. So other apps will also auto-rotate so long as gmail is running
Try smart rotator. Its free on market.

I have 2 main questions:
First is there anyway to change the default dialer? I have had HTC for quite a while and I like that dialer a lot. Dialer One is close enough, but I cant find how to get it to be the default dialer. I dont want to see the crappy samsung one ever again...
Second. when going into the browser, my screen brightness always dims. if i go into settings it brightens up again (cant find a setting for this). is there anyway to stop this? it makes browsing very annoying and hard to read.
I have rooted my phone, and am not opposed to using another ROM, just havent flashed one yet.
Thanks,
Go to browser
Hit menu
Hit brightness and colors
Play around

I go to my browser, select menu and I do not get a choice for brightness. Power saving is off. I can't find any option to change the brightness of the browser. See attached pic.
Are you on LG8 software? Because if so, it made the browser work off the phone's brightness. If you're not, (not trying to be a ****, just need to make sure) did you try scrolling down?
yup browser menu scrolls

This past week the stock Samsung internet browser app dims when opened. Then when I close it the phone goes back to the brightness level it was at before opening up the browser. only happens when using the Samsung stock browser. Anyone else having this problem?
Stock AT&T GSIII
Edit: Also wanted to add that this is not happening on my wife's GSIII.

Check display settings. There is an option to change the screen tone to reduce battery usage. Try unchecking that.

Thanks for the reply but just unchecked it and it's still doing the same thing. Even tried toggling on and off auto brightness and it still does the same thing. It's very strange.
Try turning off powesaver.

I'm chalking this up to a bug. I have a friend with an S3 with this exact problem. No amount of settings changing would fix it. I'm pondering doing a factory reset on his and seeing if that fixes the problem.
I was having the same issue. Turning off power save mode fixed it.

Its not a bug. I was able to make this happen or not happen by changing a few settings, but I don't remember which ones because I'm on AOKP.
But it definitely is a battery saving feature, so turn off all battery saving stuff and then try it.

The Samsung gs3 browser has its own display brightness settings that are independent of your screen brightness settings. While in the browser press menu and you should see a screen brightness option. You can select between 3 levels of brightness or set your own slider.
Thanks everyone...I found the culprit.
For anyone else having this problem, it is under the phone settings, power saving, I unchecked "Background color" which says "Change background color to save power in internet"

I am not sure how to quite search for this topic, so sorry if it has been asked. I tried the phrases I could think of.
The screen on the new Note 2 is very crisp and bright, but when I go into the combined inbox, or just use the stock email app, the screen dims for some reason, or feels like it does. When I leave email and go to a different app or home screen, the screen lightens up. Has anyone else seen that behavior?
Turn off Power Saving via Settings or Notification Bar.
Hi. I think this is because of the auto adjust screen tone depending on the screen option under settings then display.

Turning off power saving did it. I feel pretty dumb. Thank you.

Thanks. That works for me too.
BUT, is there any other way? Coz I am afraid that turning off power savings will reduce my battery life greatly.
BTW I only have this dim screen issue with the default email client. K9 is ok.
when i browse the web on my galaxy note 2 the samsung browser is not bright enough , went to the browser setting to change the brightness and it is all the way to the end but still not as bright as the screen and chrome so i was wondering if there is any other setting i should look at. i have checked everything else in the main setting brightness setting it is all good but samsung browser is not.
Check power saving settings

Nice one i checked the power saving setting and turn it off now it is looking great.
The power-saving function turns the screen blue-ish. It's quite nice for bedtime surfing if you don't have "Screen Filter".
