I am not sure how to quite search for this topic, so sorry if it has been asked. I tried the phrases I could think of.
The screen on the new Note 2 is very crisp and bright, but when I go into the combined inbox, or just use the stock email app, the screen dims for some reason, or feels like it does. When I leave email and go to a different app or home screen, the screen lightens up. Has anyone else seen that behavior?
Turn off Power Saving via Settings or Notification Bar.
Hi. I think this is because of the auto adjust screen tone depending on the screen option under settings then display.

Turning off power saving did it. I feel pretty dumb. Thank you.

Thanks. That works for me too.
BUT, is there any other way? Coz I am afraid that turning off power savings will reduce my battery life greatly.
BTW I only have this dim screen issue with the default email client. K9 is ok.

Is the screen brightness supposed to drastically change when auto brightness is enable. I've been playing around with it and noticed that when auto brightness is enable the screen will drastically change in different lighting conditions (with a couple second delay) For example, ill walk into a darker room the screen will get a lot dimmer after a couple of seconds and v-versu. The reason I asked is that my eco 4g would gradually adjust to point t where I didn't even notice.

I've noticed it rapidly changing like it can't decide a few times, and overall it's a bit too dim outdoors. Coming from an Evo as well and I never noticed it changing either.
Just going to keep an eye on it, not a huge issue for me. Might see if there's any way to override and manually specify the auto brightness thresholds.
There's a second setting called "Auto adjust screen power" further down on the display page - it could be that. It's some sort of thing that analyzes what's actually on the screen and tries to adjust for it.
I think it may just be a samsung thing. I have a Galaxy Tab 7" and I noticed that it was doing this as well, and it drove me crazy. I just went into settings>display>brightness and turned it down manually to just under halfway indoors and if I know Im going outside, i turn it all the way up.
Ive also noticed thst it was auto adjusting even when i had it disabled which was probablt the "power adjustment" thing... But once i caught it turning the brightness down to "prevent overheating"!?

Really?! Thats bizarre. I wonder if it will constantly have the screen down while wireless tether is running.

Thanks. I also have auto adjust disabled. Since others are seeing it then I assume its a Samsung thing. Ill wait to see if others confirm. BTW this may just be me being a geek. I notice every little thing. The other is that the buttons at the bottom of the phone aren't as sensitive as the eco.

A tip I read somewhere but haven't tried yet is to turn auto brightness off and when you do, hold down on the notification bar (don't pull it down, just hold a finger on it) and slide left or right to adjust brightness on the go. Not for sure if it works but give it a try (I'm chargin my phone while it's off now so I can't yet).

This was a feature in the original epic as well. It is pretty cool. I just use this to change brightness . The only time i change is when i go out in the sun.

Can't remember anymore besides the screen shot one which has been mentioned. Tap home and the power button simultaneously. Also can't remember where I read it.

I would honestly say its a combination of things BC I have used roms where its totally obvious (on froyo) where on others its completely impossible to notice the change.

They kept the good features from the Epic. I like the feature in "Contacts" where you can swipe right on a contact to call them and left to send a message as well

I've had the brightness at the max, and turned off the Auto Adjust Screen Power option. Just while browsing XDA the screen dimmed, and when looking at the brightness setting it states "To avoid overheating, maximum brightness has been reduced.". This has happened at least three different times.
I'm hoping this isn't a serious issue. Have you had it do that multiple times for you as well?
Anyone's screen going dim when searching the Internet.

Does the Note2 have its own browser brightness setting like the S3 (I actually found the S2-S3 default dimmer browser brightness setting annoying, there should also be an option under general systems settings to have brightness setting go system wide)?
There is an option missing in the Note Browser called colour, the brightness control helps, but without the colour option to stop the filter coming on you'll have to use another browser or just wait to see if they add it in the next update.

You must have power saving mode on! It lowers screen brightness to a ridiculously low level when browsing! I love the feature coz it allows me 10 hours screen time instead of my usual 9.
I have good eyes so use it. I can deffo see why others would struggle with it on tho
There is the option adjust screen tone under display. That seems to dim whites in the browser and gmail

in the browser i have put the brightness to max but there is still a strange blueish tone..

Nice one i checked the power saving setting and turn it off now it is looking great.
The power-saving function turns the screen blue-ish. It's quite nice for bedtime surfing if you don't have "Screen Filter".
My phone all of a sudden is acting weird.
My vibrate doesn't work for the bottom buttons, the back and menu buttons.
My phone screen image shakes, or shutters, slightly and dims the brightness automatically.
I have checked the vibration settings. The automatic brightness isn't checked in the browser. I'm pretty worried though about the screen shaking. These all seem to be combined somehow.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you enabled power saving mode? Disable it if so.
