Just saw that the 4.2 binaries for galaxy nexus has been released. Is this able to port over to our beloved device? And if so what's everyone's opinions? Has anyone used a device with 4.2 on it yet?

I'm sure it won't be long before AOSP roms start popping up.
If you're waiting on an official release from HTC don't hold your breath.

I still don't even have the 4.1 official update
I saw some screenies from 4.2 and the notification bar looks pretty cool. Seems to be like big toggle buttons..

But why 4.2 ? Do you really care about the source codes upgrades?
All the "cool" stuff you guys are mentioning can be EASILY modded into the Sense roms.
(as a general rule: anything which is available in an AOSP rom can be put in a Sense(or other OEM) rom, but not the other way around.)
If its just the number to show off, you can easily edit that with prop-editors.
The camera, sense app integration, sense widgets, all the really useful stuff will be gone.
ANYHOW, it can easily be ported once the source is released.

I hate sense anyway so I'm not worried about losing any of it Have been using asop ROMs since I got my one x. Only thing I miss is the sense camera though. Just saw that they have released 4.2 and am waiting for the devs to make new ROMs

I am a noob to these forums and this seemed the best place to ask considering it is a Q&A forum. Considering the G2 is a stock android device how hard would it be to make a stock gingerbread ROM for it? Are any devs out there working on it? Is teamdouche working on CM v7 based on 2.3? I have been looking around for any inclination of this but have seen none whilst other devices get gingerbread ported over/compiled for them. Just want to know the status (or hopefully an ETA) on a Gingerbread ROM for the G2. If I posted this in the wrong place or this has been posted before my apologies.

I don't know if it's out yet, mang... but I'm sure that once it is, it'll be a hot commodity. The modding community is absolutely amazing and I think they seriously need to be hired by some of the mobile companies out there. Their work is fantastic.
well nobody can make a rom or anything until the source code is released...and that hasnt happend yet. as soon as the nexus s comes out (which is this week) then the source code will be extracted from gingerbread and itll be able to be used. right now we just had a SDK file, and that really isnt used for anything but looks. mainly used for themes and such.
Then why does the EVO have a full working ROM for gingerbread? I believe the DESIRE and the HD2 also have it going.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
There isn't a working gingerbread ROM for the EVO, it's just FroYo with some parts ripped from 2.3. Gingerbread will be released in a couple of days along with the Nexus S, after which the AOSP will be ported to existing devices - but it'll still be a few days, if not weeks until something stable comes out.
I wouldn't hold my breath for it.
My apologies for my ignorance. I thought they were actual 2.3 builds considering the XDA posted list says "devices running gingerbread". So absolutly nothing can happen with gingerbread until a device with gingerbread (nexus S) comes out?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Cyanogen will not port it to the G2until 2.3 is released for the G2.

Not a problem, you were just asking
All we have running Gingerbread right now is the android emulator, from which we can pull apk's and libs, but most of them need tweaking to get them to work on FroYo. Plus I don't know if the market works on Gingerbread.

Is that an actual statement from teamdouche/cyanogen or just from studying release behavior in the past? When you say release you mean T-mo pushes it as an OTA correct, I know someone on here will "release" 2.3 long before T-mo stamps it for approval.

So at the moment there is no actual gingerbread (save for the reveiw models floating around phonedog, mobileburn, etc are unboxing) out just froyo with the modified characteristics of gingerbread? Pardon the question if it seems silly, most of the comment went over my head.

I'll bet we have a ported ROM before New Years, usually a huge release like this gets all the attention of the devs. Especially since with perm-root, s-off and several stable 2.2 ROMs, the devs don't have all that much to work on atm.
Team Villain were working on one, but it became clear that there was going to be no way to make Audio work until AOSP is out so its on hold until then.
and without audio a phone is useless, no ringing, no sound in calls, no music etc etc

Definatley looking forward to it when Villain gets their hands on the source code. I bet T-mo's is going to be ladened with the same bloatware that their 2.2 install on the G2 had.

Highly doubt that's true. I came from a CDMA Hero running CM6 RC1 (Froyo) and as most of us know, the lower end devices (such as the Hero), never got an official 2.2, yet there was a fully functional, highly stable CM6 out for it.
Which ran magnificently BTW.
Ah yeah, those seem to be more like proof of concept. Once a retail version of handsets start coming out with Gingerbread, as well as the source code, I imagine we'll start seeing custom ROMs based off it.

Hardly, tried it and there really is no noticeable difference, well not that you would notice for day to day use.
Have to argue, have you tried aosp based Roms like oxygen? brilliant compared to sense, and if you don't like the look? Theme it, use launcher pro and do whatever else you wanna do

Jelly bean custom ROMs are probably a month or 2 away, with an official release probably 3 or 4 months away.
Seeing as you asking on the HOX section of forums you're bound to get biased replies
Have to say I'm loving my HOX 100%, and would recommend it
Edit: when i say JB custom ROMs i mean sense based ones, there are already non sense based JB ROMs in original dev thread
Okey. I have got my hox now. And i would like to get jellybean without sense. Is there any good one like this that is stable.
Then i wonder if i use one of this roms, will i be getting updates automaticly.
Is it difficult to flash a new rom? I did it on my nexus.

Someone?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
The most stable roms without Sense are probably well-known CyanogenMod series:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786696
If you mean OTA updates (over-the-air), I know only one ROM for HOX with OTA updates, which is viperX by Team Venom (which is Sense based).
Flashing ROMs isn't difficult process, it's actually pretty simple, but you should first unlock your bootloader and install custom recovery (unless you're lucky owner of S-OFF HOX). There are plenty of guides out there, but easiest method (for me) is this All-in-one Toolkit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439
Okey thanks for this information, very helpful. Most of all i would like to wait for htc to make a upgrade ota. But i dont whant to wait forever. When do you think this will come
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
OTA updates depends on many things. I get OTA update to Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1 in the beginning of August and I've seen lot of confused people; most of them thought only AT&T HOX get 4.0.4 update, because they didn't.
It's up to you, if you unlock and root your phone. Personally I like modding my phones and I'm also enjoying root access. My first impulse to unlock&root my phone was because of Lucky Patcher (because I'm cheap bastard and I don't want to buy expensive apps from Google Play  ) Now I don't regret I've done it, because of all that awesome things I can do with my HOX now. (like flashing custom ROMs/kernels, using apps with root access and overall I can customize lot of things which I couldn't without it.)
Okey i understand, but if you would say. When do you think htc will upgrade to 4.1 jelly bean on one x?

...you do know that sense is only for HTC phones right... and it is closed source so porting sense to a non-HTC phone would cause the dev to get into legal problems and not only that but it is near impossible to do it because the phones are too different. so in short there is not Sense based rom for our phones.
Depending on what custom Rom you use, not tw based. You can get your phone to look like a sense. I've done it practically mirrored the HTC.one x. Themes and launchers can do this

GPE is nice, and its cool that @santod040 released 4.4.4.(props for being fast and first to do so) might have to try this. 4.4.4 runs great on my N7
As for the over heating, those that were on CM were getting the over heating problem and although CM is technically AOSP its still highly modified AOSP. All the AOSP roms we have, besides bucks, uses CM tree. So they all inherit the same problems.

Yeah, it's still not the full source code for the 'L" platform though.
So it would take some hackery to make it work on the m7 and without "L" binaries and proprietaries for the m7, it wouldn't be all that functional, in my opinion.
