I tried this in the 4.2 thread, but there was too much activity and it got lost. consequently, can someone with 4.2 installed test this?
the command of "set timer for XXX minutes". Does this use the new timer app or still set an alarm?

Running 4.2 it simply set an alarm called 'timer'. However I believe this is an app fault, not the OS. Google may release an update to the Google Search app to account for this.

I was afraid of that. It annoys me that they didn't bother to update voice search to interface with the new timer app. oh well.

I have Googled the **** out of this question and can't find an answer even though it seems ridiculously simple:
I want to make the DEFAULT alarm app a DIFFERENT app than the one that comes stock with Android. Is that possible? I can't figure it out and every other forum I look at where someone asks a similar question does not have the answer. I'm going CRAZY. Help!
Ever find an answer? I've been looking as well.
Try deleting the stock clock and add a different alarm app

I was having the same problem and found a way around it. I use Timely, however whenever I use "OK Google" it would use the default Clock application on my 6P instead of Timely. I fixed this by going to Settings > Apps > Clock. Then I tap the Disable button. Android ask if I wanted to revert to the default app, and I selected OK.
The next time I used "OK Google" to set an alarm, it asked me to set Timely as the default.
I'm running JB installed thru OTA. I decided to factory reset my Gnex today and I found out that "What's this Song" widget is missing from my widget tray. Appreciate if you could guide me to enable back this widget. Is it something to do with location setting? If yes, Why I did have this widget before I reset my Gnex?
The "What's This Song" widget is region locked to the US. You could try to unfreeze it by using some applications but you may be unsuccessful.

You probably had your locale set to US. I realise this is an old thread but I wondered where mine had gone too, then realised I accidentally set English (US) when I first got my Nexus which is why I saw it.
Has anyone had any luck installing Google Now via these instructions? Or a similar way? I've got the stock ROM and rooted. I installed the Online/Offline ReekoTubbs version via recovery mode and set the proper permissions. I'm just not seeing Google Now at all. No idea how to start it or whether it's even installed. My SGS3 looks just like it did prior to installing GN.
Thanks.
I've not installed it this way as I am running a JB rom, but try opening your Google App. There is no special icon, etc. for it. Your Google app should become Google Now (but icon, name, etc. remain just Google).

No problem. I'm loving Google Now and I'm excited to see where Google takes it. Works about 1000x better than S-Voice for me as well.

Yeah I tried S-Voice a couple times and I hated it. Looking forward to trying out Google Now.

The best part was when S-Voice set an alarm for negative 5am and trying to delete it crashed my phone. :/
Has anyone else figured out a way to get Google now to work with double tapping the home button like with S-Voice?

Not sure how'd this would work on the stock ROM. You'd have to find a mod that allowed it, if such a thing exists.
I'm running CM10 and I've set long-press on the menu button to app switcher and long-press on the home button to be Google Now. Quite liking the setup.
The Google app kinda works like Google Now but it is like a stripped down version of it. Google Now is way better..

I am using stock ICS, so I don't know if this will apply, but I hated svoice, and used this as a solution...
I installed apex launcher, and assigned the home button to launch google voice search/actions.
In svoice: settings>launch s voice(uncheck)
In apex: settings>behavior settings>homekey action>launch shortcut this i directed to a shortcut to launch google voice search.
Next, in apex: settings>behavior settings> homekey to default screen(checked)
The behavior that this causes is: when on home screen, and I press home button, h google voice search loads. If I am not on home screen, home button brings me there. So, from any where on phone, google voice search is accessible by two presses of home button. First takes me home, second loads voice search.

I am using CM10 KANK (8/25). I can start Google now search but when I tried to use the same test sentences i.e. "what´s the weather?" my Google now search shows me a google result instead of showing me the weather pop-up as shown in those many video. What do I make wrong?
I have a rooted Sprint GS3 and am using NFC Task Launcher. I tried to set my tags to a switch, first tap opens an app, second tap to close. The apps never close, what am I doing wrong? I have one set up to open Waze when I get in my truck and the second tap is supposed to close it, never closes, but the tag registers. Same with another one I have set to open my equalizer and then Slacker, they open but never close. Any help is appreciated.
Well I got an answer from the makers of NFCTL over at Tagstand, it looks like a week or so and the ability to close an app will be available.
Joshua replied to your question 'Switch Doesn't Turn Off Apps, GS 3 Rooted':
There's an issue with the current release (4.1.3) where root access is not being leveraged to kill tasks. As a result you're at the mercy of the task killing API which doesn't do much on ICS or JB. The next update will correctly request root permissions when killing an app (should be available sometime next week hopefully).

This is true. Finishing up a few things, then on to translations and then the update will go live.
Or you can use Tasker if you have it. Can trigger a Tasker Task (to open and/or kill app) via NFC Task Launcher.
Problem exist
You can't kill apps (like Waze & DailyRoads). Bug is still here
Yes, maybe using tasker but tasker is not free

Google assistant is done through voice commands. Google search brings up the keyboard.

That used to be the case, but is no longer.
Keyboard is present, and can in fact be set as the default input method for assistant, if you desire.
OP: not sure whay its not coming up for you. Make sure play services is up to date.

I'm right there with you. I'm currently on Android O Beta 2 of the Pixel. When I was on Beta 1 I couldn't update my Google App so I rolled back to Android 7.1.2 and updated everything then proceeded to rejoin the beta. I've even done a factory reset while using O and still no keyboard option. If you ask the Assistant "can I just type" she even replies saying to just press the keyboard icon. I've submitted feedback to Google but I probably won't hear anything back. Today I decided to try again after installing the new beta. I uninstalled all updates and cleared cache. Still nothing.
So much for the conversational Google Assistant..
I'm in exactly the same boat. My wife and I both have a Pixel with Google App & Gboard up to date (mine was beta) with the phone's language set to English US and the keyboard the same.
She has the keyboard option, I do not
I've been on the chat with Google Support a number of times, but still no help. I did have the keyboard for a few days when I made another of my account as primary, but it then disappeared randomly overnight.
It's very frustrating as I would use it a lot more especially when the kids are asleep.

I now heard that it is a server side phased roll out with Gmail id as a criteria(not device dependent). When I relate this with your notes, I feel it is correct. The only option is to wait it out.
I think that's the case, however Google support isn't much help on the issue.
Did you end up getting the keyboard? If so, what did you have to do?
What do you mean?

It depends on our Gmail address? What's the criteria? Years with the same account? Account first letter? Account activity? ?? Thanks

I have Google app, Play Services and Gboard all on beta versions, I have Nougat, I have all of the other features, but the keyboard (which is what I wanted the most) He says if I leave beta and try his app, it might work, but I tried and nothing happened, and I don't want to leave beta.
I tried beta and I'm not off all betas to see if it makes a difference, nothing on my side...
Hello, y'all, I have just now received the Keyboard option along with history. It's been like 7h I got it and it wasn't here when I woke up, it's 20h20 where I am.
