Here is an example... when using Google Maps Navigation on my EVO I will get a call, and I will answer it either via Speakerphone or Bluetooth.
My navigation will then give me an updating screen like it is trying to find the directions... at first I thought this was a NAV issue but then I noticed my mobile data icon dissapears and I noticed that my mobile data does NOT work AT ALL when I am on a call.
Is that normal behavior, or is it a problem? I thought it might be the ROM but I have tried this on both a stock based rom (Baked Snack and FRESH) and on CyanogenMOD...
I am trying to figure out if this is a HARDWARE ISSUE or if this is just normal par for the course and I never noticed it before...
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,
Tim
that is normal with Sprint. You can only call and use data while on wifi.
Man... that sucks! It makes it hard to rely on the phone for nav as I have been doing when I need to get on a conference call or something during the drive... damn! So other carriers don't have this limitation? Like if I used Verizon or AT&T with an Android device this would work? (Just curious)
Thanks for the quick response!
Simple fact: CDMA (which Sprint, Verizon, etc. use) can only handle data or voice at once. There is a version which can do both, and Verizon is supposedly looking into rolling it out, but it would require tower, infrastructure, and phone upgrades, much like rolling out the LTE/WiMax networks.
Easiest solution to bypass this:
1) Make calls as VoIP. Will cut on your web browsing/navigation bandwidth, but at least makes it possible.
2) Be connected to WiFi. Voice will go over your cell radio, data will go over the WiFi network.
3) Be connected to WiMax. Same as WiFi.
You can only use wifi or wimax when on a call.
OK so this gives me a really good reason to flash over to something that I can use Wimax with... I will flash over to Fresh or something and try navigating with 4G on and make phone calls. Thanks for all the great info!! I love this forum
I don't know if it is normal but I don't think it is. I know you can't use voice and data at the same time on a CDMA network but today is the 1st time I've ever had nav shut down when on a call. I thought the nav program downloaded the route and then would reconnect if alternate directions were needed if you missed a turn or something. I've used nav and voice almost every day since I got the phone months ago and this problem has never happened before today.

It has to pull the map pictures as you drive. Unfortunately, Google didn't allow for a large cache to be created on your phone.
Use the locations app in an hd port and download maps for your area. That way here is no need to use the internet for maps to have gps at all.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Hey everyone, I've been searching these forums and online for a while now and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with my GPS. First off I am running AOKP Build 34 and franco's kernel. Second, the GPS use to work just fine... never had any problems with it at all. It just stopped working out of nowhere. Third, I am using AT&T's unlimited data plan for non-smartphones (don't know if that makes a difference).
Everytime I run Google Maps it shows my location but with a huge blue circle around it too. When attempting to use Google Navigation, it is stuck on "Searching for GPS." and never locks on. Now the weird thing is whenever I use an app that involves GPS, the GPS icon does flash on the top left corner in the status bar.
So far, reformatting phone, installing different roms, wiping cache/data/dalvik, using default kernels, using any of those GPS fixing apps have NOT worked for me. I'm starting to think that the GPS module is defective or my APN settings are incorrect (Which I haven't touched). When I pull up GPS test app, it doesn't show any satellites are visible either. Any ideas?
Stock?
teach a man to fish, you feed him for life. teach a man to fastboot, and you create competency. and less threads on xda.
So I reverted back to stock and problem is still there, guess it's time to send it back to Handtec to get it warranty exchanged... damn this sucks!
Good luck! GPS seems not to be the best on the GN!
Hi. I just got a new Galaxy Nexus, loving it so far since it's my first Android phone, but there are a few things which are bugging me and I couldn't get an answer even after searching the web.
1. Where's the ENTER (or 'move to next line') key on the keyboard in the messaging app? it isn't there, there's a Smiley button instead of it. It appears in some other apps though.
2. I have downloaded and saved a map in Google Maps. When I try to use GPS without data or Wi-Fi, it doesn't lock on to my location. What could be the reason? With data and/or Wi-Fi turned on and connected to the internet, the GPS pinpoints to my location in seconds.
3. I've heard of some issues that arise upon updating to 4.2, I'm currently on Stock 4.1.2. Shall I update to 4.2? It seems scary though. My device is working great and I don't want any issues to arise, but this stupid "software update" keeps popping up all the time!
Sorry if these have been answered already, I couldn't find the answers... Thanks!
1. When the keyboard is shown in the messaging app. Click on the "uppercase" button on the left of the keyboard, then the Smiley button will be replaced with the "Enter" button
2. I am not very familiar with GPS issues but I am not sure that you can lock your location without GPS or WiFi, one of them should be on I guess to locate your location
3. You should update your custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) to the latest version before updating to 4.2.1 then everything should be fine. Generally, many users are reporting that 4.1.2 is more stable than 4.2.1 but personally I haven't found much of a difference and I rather having the toggles of 4.2.1

Thanks! Now I'm concerned about GPS, it SHOULD lock on without data or WIFi
Seems I misunderstood you earlier. Sorry I thought you mean you want to lock on without GPS and WiFi
Yes absolutely GPS alone should work. Did you enable the "Location Access" in the "Settings"?
Sent from my GNex
For gps, try waiting 10-15 minutes. It might take a while to lock if you aren't near where you last had a lock.
If you want to test it, try installing "GPS Status" from the play store. It will show you all of the satellites that your phone can currently see, and what their lock status is.
Tried GPS Status. Nope, it stays on the 'looking for GPS satellites', but never gets a lock without internet connection. Any help?
(Firstly I know I just posted and said Surdu Petru's Kit Kat Carbon Rom is awesome and it is. So is his Omni Rom which I just changed from. The wifi problem isn't caused by the roms. it's been happening with all sorts of Roms for me (and loads of other people on other phones)
I noticed before when I installed his Omni Rom ( and at least 5x before with other roms) that the WiFi was working perfectly until some point between a Google restore & titanium backup - restore. Then I'd start getting the WiFi disconnecting every 30 seconds, even when standing next to the router on my home network.
I Googled and tried everything I could find but nothing would work. So when I installed Carbon Rom a few days ago I flashed the rom and let it install to the Google log in, connected to WiFi and signed into my Google account BUT I didn't allow Google to restore data etc, just let it log in & didn't do a full titanium restore. I then slowly (Titanium Backup) restored all my apps individually that I wanted but MOST of them I just restored the app and not the data. Everything has been perfect for two days, full strong five bar WiFi signal throughout my house, never dropping the WiFi until about 1hr ago... when I opened up Google maps , accepted it's access & (we will learn everything about you) permissions, clicked on the maps GPS logo, it asked me to go to location settings, went there, approved high accuracy and BOOM, WiFi disconnected and my WiFi now says not in range. So... is it going to some server and changing my location in the phone so now it doesn't think I'm where I am and therefore doesn't want to connect to the router 1 meter from me with five bars on the phone but "not within range"? Is this what could be causing problems for loads of people on different phones?
Tried everything to get it to reconnect (Wifi On/Off, Airplane mode on/off, Wifi advanced settings re weak connection etc, Rebooted phone and nothing worked.
Did another Google search and found this forum
http://www.reddit.com/r/nexus4/comments/1rdolw/44_has_murdered_my_battery_rendering_my_nexus_4_a/
where about halfway down it mentions to disable hangouts and log out of Google+ then reboot. I did this and now my WiFi is back to full signal and not dropping connection.
So is this the solution to this? I haven't yet re-signed into Google+ or enabled hangouts or re-opened Google Maps and gone through the whole process above as I'm worried it will screw up my WiFi again.
Just thought I'd put this out there hoping that a developer, such as the Excellent Surdu Petru, might "click" and come up with a fix.

Theme Engine?
Does CM12 have the theme engine? If so where do I find it?
Loading new versions
Can I load the 12/22 build over the 12/20 without doing a factory reset?

If there will be a theme engine it's not implemented yet.

Yes, but after flash make sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache. I did and everything is working fine. Wiping caches as a must though.
mobile data issue
Hello, after flashing this ROM mobile data isn't working. I tried to change APN with "Change APN" from play market, but I have a message "access point name settings are not available for this user" and when I try to add APN it is not save them. How to change APN? In preview port mobile data not worked too, but I repair it with change APN.
Devise ls970, sorry for my bad English, I am from PMR
How to prevent ROM from lagging at times from waking up device?
Any trickster mod settings you recommend? Thanks again for this rom!
CM12.0 Issues on LS970 Sprint
Let me first say I love the ROM... Good Job... I am however having a few serious issues...
1) While making a call, the phone immediately disconnects. When I call back, the other caller is still connected so it goes to voice mail. I will have to reboot the phone. This happens every time and is very difficult to manage since I have to enable airplane mode to end the call.
2) Phone calls will not end, pressing the end icon only makes the end option go away but the phone call is still in progress. I tried using a bluetooth headset and only the device.
3) The bluetooth cuts off, wades out and disconnects very often. I have tried multiple devices and have the same issue.
4) No SIM card- Sprint appears in notification bar on lock screen and can't be removed.
5)Voicemail by long pressing # one doesn't work
If you could please direct me how I can fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dialer
I am a fool in love with this ROM. Everything about it except one major bug that has already been mentioned. I cannot make calls! The first time I make a call, it immediately reports "Call ended" although the person on the other end does get a silent call from me beyond my control. This blew up on me when someone important I was trying to call thought I was pranking them. I have to jump ship until it's fixed. Thanks for this almost perfect ROM.

Bluetooth Audio, Android Wear and Data
Some observations:
Bluetooth audio does not work for me. Tried multiple devices. They connect, but none will play audio. Phone audio does work however.
Android Wear is a little wonky with LG G Watch. Got the common Android Wear repeatedly crashing. Had to uninstall all Wear apps and reset the watch. That seemed to clear it up, but I'm not sure if all of the notifications are coming through.
Sprint data is odd to begin with. It seems when you lose wifi, cell data does not connect on it's own (I see the exclamation point icon). Toggling airplane mode sometimes worked to restore data. Rebooting seemed to work well.
Finally, I have a Google Voice number integrated with my Sprint number. Messenger doesn't work at all and Hangouts only sends texts. Only the Voice app fully works for me.
Great ROM! Can I use nightly updates from within the ROM?
Thanks for a great Lollipop ROM! One question:
In the Settings>About Home>CyanogenMod updates there are "Available Updates" listed, there are nightlies. Are these useful in any way or they unrelated to this unofficial L rom?
Also -- just a status on this ROM for me, it seems very usable and stable. A couple issues I've found:
- the provided Messaging app won't send out for me, it shows "SMS disabled" in the text area under messages. I installed "Google Messenger" and it works fine.
- there is a NO SIM CARD - SPRINT message on the lockscreen, but this phone doesn't use a SIM card (on the Sprint version anyway)
- the camera works but the exposure does not adjust dynamically: what I mean is that the stock camera lets you touch/focus a dark area of the photo and the entire image will brighten up to adjust the exposure for that spot in the image. In the same way touching a bright spot will dim the entire image a bit to expose better for that spot. This is not working in the camera app. I installed the Google Camera from the Play Store and it works the same, so I think an exposure variable is not communicating or something similar. I can manually adjust exposure but that does not solve it everyday usage where touching a spot usually adjusts both focus and exposure.
I hope this all helps improve the ROM. Thanks again!
PS. The earlier post mentioned bluetooth problems. For me, bluetooth is working perfect so far, including Bluetooth LE 4.0 connecting to my Fitbit.
Installing gapps with TWRP vs Phils Touch (Clockwork Mod)
A note on installation -- with TWRP 2.8.3.0 I was able to flash the main ROM but would get an error while trying to flash the 1109 version of gapps for Android 5:
" gapps error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/gapps-lp-20141109-signed.zip ". This leaves things broken and rebooting shows endless error dialogs.
To solve this, in TWRP I wiped and then flashed the main ROM file again, then flashed Phil's Touch version of Clockwork recovery for the LS970 ( philz_touch_6.23.3-ls970.zip ). I rebooted into Clockwork recovery and was able to flash gapps successfully.
Next time I think starting with Phil's Clockwork instead of TWRP would have made things easier for setting up this ROM.
Nightlies: Enabling root access and granting superuser to apps
SuperSU stopped working for me on the nightlies and I found out this is now built into CM12. Here is how I enabled root access and superuser management:
1. go to Settings > About phone > then repeatedly tap Build number to enable Development options menu
2. go to the newly enabled Settings > About phone > Development options
3. set Root access for Apps as needed
A prompt will appear when trying to use an app that needs root and the user can grant superuser access for that app, no SuperSU app needed anymore.
Various permissions can also be managed per app in the Settings > Privacy > Privacy Guard area (double tapp an app in the list there to see settings).
Sprint Visual Voicemail
One thing for Sprint Optimus G users who want this as a daily driver, Sprint Visual Voicemail is the best way to do voicemail (on Sprint, anyway). See instructions and APK here:

I really love how well this runs! I'm coming from Vanir and Commotio which is no longer being updated. The battery life on this is pretty good so far. I do have a question though. I assume the # symbol in the status bar is for root, but I'd really like to get rid of it. Does anyone know of a way to do this? As for the camera, I set the app to manual exposure under advanced settings and made it +2 (which is the highest allowed in the app). This helps but doesn't completely eliminate the need for dynamic on-the-fly exposure. Also, my 5ghz wifi doesn't work. Calls work fine for me. Proximity is good. Auto brightness is good(I think). 2.4ghz wifi is fine. 3g data is fine. Can't tell if 4g works as I haven't been able to get into a 4g area yet. Since the stock app was listed as not working I'm just using 8sms and it works just fine for texts. Overall fantastic job! Hard to believe this is so new and running like a daily driver!
Edit* Also, for me at least, gesture typing doesn't work with stock keyboard. I haven't tried swiftkey, swype, etc. yet, though.

@thejase About the # sign in the status bar, are you using SuperSU or something similar? If so, you don't need that anymore as root functionality is managed within the CM12 ROM now (see my earlier post on the steps to enable root within CM12).
Slowdowns and killing apps
After using various apps (browser, facebook, twitter, youtube, etc) I have experienced things get slow and just stop a couple times, perhaps an out-of-memory situation or some type of accumulation.
I noticed when force-restarting the phone that apps sometimes re-appear in the app switcher/card list even if they were closed previously. This might be an L bug beyond this ROM. Restarting the phone about once a day seems to help.

I'm in a 4G/LTE area and it works great! For SMS I've found that installing the official Google Messenger from the Play Store provides a working version of the very smooth Lollipop SMS/MMS experience on this ROM -- for example, when people send me MMS photos it creates a neat photo gallery right within the chat. Here is a link:

Google announced that there is a memory leak, they are fixing or have fixed it and it should be in the next update/release. 5.0.3 I think they said.
