Does anyone know of an app which will allow me to check the reception for a specific frequency band (850/900/1900/2100)? The Test menu allows me to see which band is currently used, but I can't see (AFAIK) if another band also has reception...

Hey,
I was wondering if there was anyway to tell in detail what band i am on.
My phone should be connecting to telstra's UMTS 850 network, but i think it is only connected to the 3g 2100 network. Is there anyway to check?
Same with my data connections, i dont think it is connecting at the higher speed 850 band, and has reverted back to the slower standard 3g 2100 band.
Im using schaps 3.54b
Cheers
Daniel Herrera's Bandswitch will tell you which band you're on and allow you to change at will. Get it HERE....
Another one is from Shogunmark and is HERE...
You should be able to check them: phone>menu>options>band. Once there, you can select your band or go auto.
yeah, it seems i cant get on band 850 (telstra's nextg network) with any of the new roms.
very strange.
BTW...what radio version are using?
Check out this excellent engineering mode app. It says what band you're currently using.

Can anyone confirm if the Band Selection menu is available. It's critical for me being on Bell's swiss cheese network to be able to manually select a band to get service in a particular area. Otherwise I'll need to wait an extra month and go with Rogers.
I don't understand what you mean. The phone's compatible only with Bell's 850/1900 HSPA bands. What other bands can you switch to?
Through the band selection menu you can choose to only use 850 and not have it search for 1900 constantly. In an area where 1900 doesn't penetrate very well it will intermittently fall back to 850 but will always continue to search for 1900 which leads to a lack of signal most of the time.

who said so?
The phone comes with a penta-band 3G chip which allows it to connect to any 3g network around the world.
Hi,
Does anyone have any info on how to tell what 3G frequency band Im using on the Galaxy Nexus?
Prior to ICS, you could use *#*#0000#*#* to see what 3G band you were on, but this doesnt work anymore.
Also using *#*#4636#*#* doesnt give any info.
Thanks

Stock Android has never had a feature to show which band you're using. Let us know if you find anything but I am pretty sure it is not available.
I am curious about this too. I always simply Googled the provider to learn the band I was using.

There's no way to see the band on stock android.
One of the things I want to find out as well. I am surprised there is no way to find this out on a phone like the Galaxy Nexus..

AFAIK stock android never had any diag menu .
For those looking for my question - skip to the end - I have a bit of background waffle in the middle.
I was also looking for something like this (the iPhone has this feature in its "field test app" *3001#12345# or something like that).
I suspect Google hadn't thought about putting something like this in, because it's only really useful in countries like Australia, where all three major carriers run out multiple bands for 3G/UMTS:
Telstra: 850MHz (Band V), 2100MHz (Band I)
Optus: 900MHz (Band VIII), 2100MHz (Band I)
Vodafone: 850MHz (Band V), 900MHz (Band VIII) and 2100MHz (Band I)
Each carrier operates those frequencies in different regions, with Band I typically in cities (with Telstra starting to install their own network in Metro areas for load balancing for their nationwide 850MHz network), Band VIII typically in regional/rural areas (although Optus is bringing it in parts of Metro Australia), and Band V nationwide (with Voda prioritising Metro regions at the moment).
Seeing as all carriers are currently installing new equipment in the cities (Telstra on 2100MHz, Optus on 900MHz, Voda primarily on 850MHz, but also 2100MHz), it would be handy to see which band my phone is using at the moment to identify when network upgrades have been completed for our area.
Finally, getting to my question - I notice most of the replies say that "stock Android" doesn't have this feature. Does this imply that custom ROMs have this feature, and if so, could someone point me to a custom ROM that has this capability? Thanks
I don't know of any customizations for phones that did not ship with this ability in the firmware.
Some non-stock phones with vendor firmware, notably LG and (NON-Nexus) Samsung, have a proper band select menu. These additions to the OS are closed-source to my knowledge and not available to adapt to other devices.
Hi, I would like ask why LTE is not working on n5120? Anyone who has a fix?
Make sure that your network mode is set to auto mode
If it doesn't, your tablet's network frequency may be different from the lte frequency of your carrier. I have the same problem too but I found out that my tablet has a different frequency. It is because the lte frequency of the country where I bought my tablet has a different frequency to my carrier's lte frequency
Hi, I have the S20+ purchase from carrier here in Canada. When I play online game or video conference from time there is connection dropping for 1 or 2 second sometime up 5 second. Its very frustrating during gaming. My 3yrs old LG never had this problem, my signal is always 1 bar away from full.
Setting on LTE/WCDMA/GSM and 5G is off as my carrier doesn't support 5G yet.
I read on the samsung forum many people had worst problem with early firmware. Does anyone know any idea can help improve this problem. I did a Network settings reset didn't help.
Hello,
You can try forcing only low bands or only high bands. You must remember to change back this setting if you want faster speeds or more coverage. The low bands will typically help with stability and the high bands will typically help with speed.

You should see band selection. Choose clear all. Choose WCDMA 850, LTE 5, 12, LTE 13 and save.
If you mess it up, press clear all then select all and save. It will set your phone back to the original band selection.
I get almost the same here on Sprint in America. I see connection drops (while still connected) and some data slowdown.
It happened on my s9 plus so I just knew to reboot. I think it's more carrier end then phone, unless it's just Samsung in general

Thank you this been working for the last 10min testing. I had to say on the speed test before I am getting 200-250mbps/sec on download now at 15mbps. It be nice I can get it to around 50mbps .
@creep138 I had Iphone, Asus, Sony and LG never had this problem. Yes, Samsung speed test is a lot faster but I rather have a stable connection than faster.

You're welcome. You can choose to include band 2 or 7, depending on your carrier. But it will kind of negate the reason for choosing lower, more reliable bands in the first place. Good luck!

I google my carrier LTE bands and did some testing.
700 MHz Band 12, 13, 17, 29
850 MHz Band 5
1700/2100 MHz Band 4
1900 MHz Band 2
2600 MHz Band 7
7 is is not stable and 2 is much more stable and good speed over 100mbps.
