[Q] Network Connection Issues - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I rooted my Desire HD in mid August (with aahk), and haven´t used Moblie Internet since then.
However i have an Mobile Internet flatrate now again and noticed that it is kind of unusable.
I have an Hsdpa connection and full signal strengh (5/5)
The Browser is loading very slowly (for example takes up to 4 minutes to load google.com),
Play store always gives me: "Error: Connection Timeout" and I receive Whatsapp message always days after they were send.
Now the Question, how can i deal with this? (However Wifi works fine) I had have this problem now for an entire Month.
(I checked if it was a problem with the Rom, but somehow it is not)
Roms i have testet since i noticed the problem:
Stock android 2.2.1
Stock android 2.3
Virtuous infinity alpha 3 Sense 4 | 4.0.3
Viruous infinity Beta 1 Sense 4 | 4.0.3
Jelly Time R18
and
ViperDHD v1.1.0 | Sense 4.1 | 4.0.4 (currently)
The Problem excists on all Roms
I can bet that its not poor network service since a friend of mine does have an Samsung galaxy note II in the same network as mine and get´s 600 kb/s download speed over mobile network.
Is it Radio related? If yes which Radio should i get?
(I live in Germany)
Radio is: 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M

Edit build.prop and/or new apn settings? I don't know much about radios.

I looked into apn settings and compared them to the ones that my provider recommends, they match...

WiFi will not connect to internet w/Opera

I cannot get the WiFi to work on my ATT Tilt 2.
Any ideas? I can see connect to the wireless net point, but no connection to the internet.
Kind Regards,
Jim
I'm having the same issue on stock AT&T Rom..
I think I just found a workaround though.. Try starting Opera without wifi on, get it connected, then turn on wifi, go back into Opera and see if that works for you.. I'd love a better fix if there's any other workarounds.. For all my searching, I can't find it..
From my wifi

i've got the SAME problem as you guys. (Owning an TP2 device with WM 6.5)... the Wifi connects to my Router But I cant get any data from it when im using Opera OR Skyfire.. even though I got a full signal.
PS. I did however notice some weird stuff from the Ip-adress - witch were not correct given that my router is sharing NAT adress with "192.168.0.XX" and not 192.168.1.XX -Witch were given in my Htc device..
And according to my D-link Router, My htc device gets No IP whatso ever.. But it can be detected.
Any solution ??

See.. I thought I already tried that.. Just applied it again, and still no go.. Hmm..
Edit- nope.. still not working even after a reset.. I just hard reset this thing (stock AT&T) 2 days ago.. skyfire and pie are working fine with the wifi..
My above method is still the only way it's working..
Yup same problem here, I came across this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=621466&highlight=wifi+problems
and I guess if you update your Opera to a newer version it will correct this problem, but it seems to be alot of info there. Has anyone tried this?

3.1 EU/GER with 3G working ROM!

I was curious about, how much work it would be to port the 3.1 3G US ROM to work with European GSM devices, because it looked pretty much as a nearly AOSP build.
I tought, besides some APK/SDK magic it should not be to difficult to get it working. And I was right. It took me about 3 hours of work (with almost no deep Android knowlegde) and now I've got a working German Xoom with 3.1, 1.4.2 Tiamat Kernel and 3G.
It was mainly a little bit flashing and modifing of the build.prop, not even one line of written or changed code! So I wouldn't even call it too much of a "frankenrom".
What is working:
- All Honeycomb 3.1 Features
- WIFI
- USB Host and SD-Card should work (not tested, but at least sdcard is mounted)
- 3G ( tested with Vodafone.de )
What is not working/Missing:
- For my taste the 3G signal strength is to bad
- It does only seem to work with 3G/UMTS not HSDPA for the moment
- Only SIM-Cards without a PIN are working.
To prove that it's working, some pictures:
(Sorry for the bad quaity, it was a little to dark to make really steady shots)

Why I'am posting this here?
In the first place to prove I was right ;-)
But mainly, since I am not mut of an Android developer until now, I would like to find some people who can help me to get the ROM working with European Carriers and PIN-lockes SIM cards.
So please feel free to send me a PM if you think you can help.
I will not send anybody my work just to flash it to their devices. It's far from being in working condition or stable!
PMs which just requesting the ROM will be ignored!
1 million congrats MediumO, this is what I had hoped for. Thank you very much!
This proves that european Xooms do not have to wait for the official 3.1 release to use UMTS, as it was stated so often before.
I am running BRD's 3.1 VZW US ROM on my MZ601, so far without UMTS. I will try to adapt your hints tomorrow and reproduce it. Build.prop and the Kernel parameters also had hit my eye today, looking at dmesg. Will give you an update.
Let's hope HSDPA will be working as well.
Kudos!
Thread closed until a product is ready. Developer, PM me when it is. Thank you

YouTube using Mobile Data: "Connection to server lost"

Running AOKP build 36 and franco #162 at the moment and i keep getting this error shown below while using mobile data. it works fine on Wifi.
it seems to be an issue with the Vodafone UK network while running custom ROMS (ive tried AOKP and CM9), because using the stock imm76i image with the exact same APN settings and the videos work fine on mobile data. I have tried my three sim inside and that seems to work fine with no problems running stock and custom ROMS.
does anyone else have this issue and how did they solve it? gets abit annoying because i have to copy the URL link into the browser to be able to view the videos when im not on Wifi.

Losing connectivity (3g data) randomly

My HTC One X keeps having issues and I'm looking forward to future updates that will hopefully fix them.
I am losing 3g/2g data connectivity every now and then. When it happens I have tried pinging 8.8.8.8 (google dns) and get a "host unreachable... 9".
Airplane mode or toggling data doesn't help. I need to restart the phone to get back 3g data.
I am On O2. I frequently use the widget 2g3g onOff to toggle 2g/3g
Is there any way to troubleshoot the connectivity to try and find out the root cause?
cheers
Others had this issue. If you have an unbranded phone. Try the 1.29.401.12 ruu this included a new radio which might fix your problem.

It's a branded and unrooted HTC One X so a different ROM isn't an option at the moment.
Would be interested in further troubleshooting like traceroute, ifconfig (is not present on android?) and etc

I know you've probably already got over this or perhaps even switched to a new device, but I found an application that really helps with that problem.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dazbradbury.restartConnections&hl=en
I face this problem at least four or five times every single day but I am afraid to go to HTC about this since my phone is rooted and with a custom ROM on it and I cannot actually revert to Ice Cream Sandwich because I updated my HBOOT to 1.31 and I cannot revert to 1.28 since I have a S-ON device.
I have tried several custom ROMs and the one with least network/signal problems was the stock ICS ROM, whereas custom ones seem to have a lot more bugs and issues with them, but I guess that's expected. Battery life is much better on stock ROMs, though, and overall performance. I am hoping Jelly Bean will be released for my HTC_J15, though.
My connectivity issue was resolved with the last update from HTC.
thank for taking the time posting the info. If I ever get networking problems again then I'll check out the app.
Oh you're most welcome, mate. Your thread appeared as I was Googling the problem and trying to find a permanent solution for it.
I've also heard that the Radio version could be a factor in the network strength.
These are two screen shots of my network info:

I don't really understand the whole dB thing because I am not into networking. lol
What pisses me off is that the device drops data connection while I am in the same spot and haven't moved. When I am outside and drops it, I keep convincing myself that perhaps this spot has no signal or something, but then again other people are using their devices just fine, and I used my BlackBerry in those same spots just fine a month and a half ago!

19 satellites in view. Phone won't connect to any! UVMC6 radio.

Title is self-explanatory. Please look at screenshot below. Halp pl0x?
Using UVMC6 radio. ODINed back to stock 2.3.6 and 4.0.3, no dice. Same problem =/
Tried the AGPS patch, no go. Same problem =/

Try clearing AGPS data. You should be able to do that in GPS Test.

Did that, no go. How many are you getting btw, and what radio are you on?
I'm using UVMC6 (rooted stock JB, never had a custom ROM) and getting 19 sats in view and 12 in use. By the looks of your signal bars, you're not getting strong enough signal to use any--it's just seeing that the sats are there.

Huh, I'll try ODINing to 4.1.2 then. If that doesn't work, I'll just sell it on eBay. Probably gonna get a Motorola Atrix HD (cheaper than SGS2, better res screen, but no hardware buttons or NFC).
Could you try running that app without the wifi/data on?
Also, for some reason my gps clock doesn't set like yours does. SMH.
Ok update, GPS is working, but it takes a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time to get locks.
It should be quicker next time... even my Garmin eTrex takes forever if I haven't used it in a while.

Yeah, actually it does work. But initially, it takes around 15 to 20 minutes (after boot that is), and then it grabs signal within 10 seconds.
Weird...Oh well, I don't even use the GPS. The CPU and GPU are super powerful, so it's a great phone I have my CPU overclocked at 1.7GHz and GPU underclocked to 177MHz (but it's still powerful. I don't play games on it).
