[Q] 16gb and 32gb version GS3 have different supported frequency? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I was comparing the 16gb gs3 and the 32gb gs3 on the tmobile website, and in the supported frequency section they are almost identical except that the 32 gb version lists that it also supports a 900mhz frequency in addition to all the other frequencies that they both support. Does anyone know what this is all about and how it will benefit or not benefit me. I tried calling tmobile and the person i was talking to me said that the 32gb option will not get 4g over seas because it has the 900mhz frequncy, but the 16gb will get 4g over seas because it does not have the 900mhz frequency. This answer does not make sense to me. She said because it has more memory it needs to have the 900mhz. That doesnt make sense right? Can someone please explain. Thanks so much.

Im betting its a typo. Other than storage, they should be identical.

I could be wrong, but I doubt it's a typo being that tmobile is aware of this situation. I just cant seem to find a representative that understands what this means.

Thats because the reps only know whats on their screen most of the time. They are often using the same info you are askin questions about. Thats what it seems like in my experience anyway.

I didn't think of it until later yesterday but I called Samsung and they told me that there is no difference between the two except that they are different gigabytes. I'm thinking it's a scam on T Mobile's part to try to get people to buy a 32 gigabyte model by listing an extra frequency that it's capable of , though that's not the case. Im assuming they figured that most will buy the lower gig model and add an sd card instead , I don't know.
Just as a side note, I went to a corporate T-Mobile store yesterday to buy another gs3 outright for my girl and the guy refused and said its policy and he cant sell without a contract. I was like wtf? I called headquarters and they said that they are totally allowed to sell outright. Either he didn't get the memo or he was just being a douche because I was getting service somewhere else lol. Well anyway, I went to another corporate store and it was no problem. So now we are both rocking the gs3s.......effff apple lmao. Now I have to figure out when im typing in fields like this one right now, when I move the cursor to fix a typo, the screen jumps around not letting me see where i want to type, does anyone else have this issue? Thanks guys.

Selling T989 and getting a Galaxy Nexus a good idea?

So the Nexus was dropped to 350. T989s go for about 320 on eBay. Is it a good idea to replace my T989 for a Nexus and then load JB on it? Thanks in advance!

Many times good software can make up for hardware. I don't own a Gnex myself but I've read good things about how smooth it runs. They'll always get the best vanilla android software as well. Camera quality (8mp vs 5mp) and no sd card slot are probably the biggest concerns with it.
You can always check out their forum and see how people like it.
I will never do this. I need extra memory and in 3 years i havent carried camera with me lol

i honestly think its a stupid trade, dont get me wrong the nexus is a beast n has some amazing developments but if ur doing this only for JB u might as well be patient n wait till we get ours
The lack of SD card slot and overall mediocre hardware quality put me off. I was definitely considering the Nexus as I prefer a pure Android experience, but the reviews just aren't great.

I was thinking about selling my Galaxy S II GT-I9100, so I could get the Gal Nex and get a taste of Jelly Bean.
You might want to check out this Galaxy S II resale value guide [goo.gl/lwq4T] it has some useful insight regarding the differences in the second hand prices of the GS2.
Lucky for you the T-Mobile version has the highest (locked version) resale value @ $357~ on Ebay.

I sold my T989!
So today I sold my T989 on Craigslist for $345. I had $60 extra and I just ordered it from the play store.
I think I got lucky I sold it for 345, because some used in mint condition T989s on eBay are now going for about $300.
I'll let you know what I think about it. I can always come back to T989 if I don't like it. I'm sure the resale value of the GNex will go up if the ban is put in full effect!
You can go to other threads, gsmarena, etc., and see the phone spec differences.
Just a couple things that might be a little subtle from just looking at the specs .....
The S2 has faster HPSA, 42 MBS theoretical VS 21 on the Gnexus. Most PHONES can't take advantage of that speed by themselves (or users don't). It makes a difference for me, as I hotspot and run a computer off of my tmobile connection. You do need to be in a tmo 42 mbs area for this to be useful, however, so, if you're not, this feature might not be "worth it" for you.
PENTABAND? What provider do you use, are you looking to do contracts? Straight Talk (att and tmobile) and tmobile itself, offer great pay per month contracts (plenty of posts on the ST $45 unlimited everything plans). The S2 is faster ON TMOBILE, but, while it can run on ATT for voice, data is very slow. The nexus is fast on both ATT and Tmobile.
Pentaband is a good feature if you are looking to switch between att and tmo (maybe one gets better reception when you're at school, the other when you're at home ?).
A THOUGHT HERE is the ATT S2 SKYROCKET, apparently, it runs ATT fast natively, AND, can be flashed to the Tmo version (Tmo S2 doesn't have the same radio, so doesn't work the other way)
As others have mentioned, more developer support for the GN, less for the S2, but, ... the S2 has lots of good roms too.
SD CARD - is "WORTH" it to me. I am in hotels a lot, have a large collection of blu ray DVDs I've converted using DVD Catalyst, and have many on micro SD cards ... and I can use my phone as a movie player if the hotel (or if I go to a friends house) TV has HDMI.
The built in memory on the GN is not so small that its a big hinderance, I can still fit a movie or two and hundreds of hours of songs, so, long as you plan you're fine ... removeable SD allows you to bring your entire song collection and dozens of movies.
That's useful for me, might not be "worth it" for you.
Both are great phones, FOR ME, the Nexus is much more versitile if you're looking to maximize pay as you go plans and carrier useage, the S2 if you are looking for pure data speed and SD is a little stronger.
Good luck with your choice, and let us know how it turns out!

I I got 5025 on a stock rooted ROM. I may have been OC'd to 1890mhz but I honestly dont remember.
what do you think you'll regret? its a great phone and i've been very pleased with everything the phone can do.
is there a specific task you're concerned about?
also are you upgrading or buying it with out a contract?
I just read about a quad core 1.7ghz HTC ONE X phone coming to att. Don't know if its true, but if it is, I'll be kicking this GS3 to the curb real fast. Has to have 2gb of ram too though.

I think that ill probably regret the fact when I see a person with the international version, and I see how fast that phone is, its going to make the SGH-I747 look slow. I'm a major gamer so that's where the 4 cores will truly show off how great the phone is, and I'm worried that the att galaxy s3 just wont be as good. The unlocked international version cost like 600 dollars, and that is wayyyyyyyy more than I'm willing to spend on a phone.
Basically I want to know how the art compares to the international one, especially in high 3d graphics intensive gaming. I understand that it wont be asssssssss good as the international version, but its still preety good right?!
My sprint contract ends in August and I'm switching to att ( I'm getting 3gb of data, and I live in new York so I get LTE)
Also one more thing that keep forgetting to ask is, how much bloatware is on the phone?
Thanks to everyone in advance

Yeah I just checked it out myself, if HTC announces it before I get the s3 than ill wait for it, but if I already bought it I can't, because att has like a 18-20 month upgrade period.
Still this all just romoured, and if it does come out and it becomes the international version(it probably will because I don't expect a quad core LTE compatible phone for the next year or year and a half),not the us version I'm going to get soooooooo angry. I really wished that at&t gave me a choice between international and us version and allowed me to pick if I wanted the LTE compatible one or not, but sadly they don't

i dont do enough gaming to know if the international version is better for that. i do however do alot of media (music, videos, and photos), and this phone is great for that. If your goal is to get the international version have you considered getting the ATT gs3 and trying to sell it for the unactivated price still new in the box and use that money to buy the i9300?

Actually, yes it will.
Carriers are not gonna go after the users (such as myself) but will definitely go after commercial unlockers, like the store I have bought 5 phones from and flashed 6 phones with. I buy the phones unsubsidized, so im ok, but with a possible $500,000 fine and prison time...I dont think my store will continue doing this.
Going to call them tomorrow and see what they say...
Edit: read the docket...im glad I got my note 2 flashed before it went into effect.

yea well obviously the people who do it for commercial reasons it'll stop them ..but like me or you or whoever knows how to unlock a phone is probably gonna do it (for personal use)
Problem is for metropcs...you need retailer access to their database. I can
Change everything on the phone but not add the esn to metro's database. So I have to rely on those commercial people...so my note 3 might have to be on sprint...

I get the ruling, but don't fully agree with the logic used. It centered around the cellphone service providers recouping the subsidy costs the give consumers. I just don't get why they needed it overall, especially for the general consumer, since the contracts state if you leave the carrier, you pay a fee; assuming you don't find a loophole to exploit. If that that fee isn't enough, raise it. As far as I know, there is nothing to say it can't be higher based on the phone purchase. Just has to go down over time. My thinking, make it cost the same as buying the phone unlocked.
At the same time, I wouldn't say Sprint makes phone friendly to switch carriers, compared to others who do not have build in SIM cards.
Personally, it's not going to stop me or that many people. I don't believe most people who unlock do it to change carriers. They're more interested in rooting for the ability to use custom firmware on the same carrier or use other applications.
That said, I can understand where people might be one these phones and try to go with something like Metro. I never looked into the long term costs, so I'm not sure how much money is really saved. The wore part is the ability to see the phone to offset the cost of upgrading to newer model because it limits the buyers to only those who want that same carrier. This may drive the prices even lower.
Without more numbers, I just think this more carriers being scared rather than working with each other so consumers are happy and they can make more money by increase the number of users.

[Q] TMobile 32GB Galaxy S4

After visiting the local T-mobile store here in Miami, I was told that a 32GB version of the S4 could be ordered over the phone. My question is, does anyone know if this presumed 32 Gb version (which I've been told is not available in stores) can be flashed with all the ROMs that the 16 GB version has available in this forum, or will the fact that the storage capacity is different change the partition sizes and therefore make such flashing imposible/hard due to a possible bricking? Will the phone version also be different or will it still be an SGH-M919 (just with more capacity)? I think you probably can flash ROMS for the SGH-M919, but what do you guys know or think of this? I'm considering buying an S4 and would like the extra storage but I also love to try new ROMS and flash new things. Comments are appreciated.

I could be mistaken, in fact I hope I am, but I think you got some false information. My buddy works at T-Mobile and I haven't heard anything about a 32GB S4 since the phone was announced. It was supposed to be 16, 32, and 64GB but they only released 16GB, and to make it worse there's only about 9 or less of that 16 available. It is still worth it, it's a great phone, especially since it has a microSD card slot, but it's frustrating having to find workarounds because of always running out of internal storage. I got used to it though, and it added another 50GB to my dropbox.
Tmobile has no 32 GB model. My roomate works there. Not to mention you can easily go online and find that information out yourself. it's not that difficult

I went to a T-Mobile store today, finally giving up on the 32Gb model. I jokingly commented, "And let me guess, the 32Gb model comes out tomorrow." The rep said that indeed it would. It would be available online through google or samsung, and that I could check in tomorrow and have him order it for me for pickup at the store. I guess we'll see, but I'm crossing my fingers.

To this guy's credit, we were in the middle of filling out the form for me to purchase the 16G version, since I had given up on the 32G version and my current phone has been crapping out at a surprisingly bad rate. And he gave me his card to call back to see if the 32G version was in today or not. I think he was just trying to be more helpful rather than a purposefully misleading slimeball. Brightspot just launched a couple of days ago, and I see a good price for S3 off-contract - the full name of this phone is "Brightspot Samsung Galaxy SIII Cell Phone - White (T999L)". I'm thinking about buying this device and use it with my T-Mobile sim, but was curious to find out if anyone did the same thing and was successful? Do I have to unlock it... would the data work with my T-Mobile sim...? The reps at Target don't seem to know, or they are not willing to tell me the truth

If it's a t999l it should work straight out the box. If not just unlock

It's just a guess, but if it's a T999L, it should be identical to T-Mobile's in every way, including its firmware. Anytime a carrier wants different firmware, they usually give it a different model number.
For example, Metro PCS has the T999N. It is a T999L, only the firmware is different, and doesn't have T-Mobile apps/bloat, but this got it its own model number.
Basically I'm saying it should work with T-Mobile's SIM with nothing done. But, like I said, I am guessing here. If you do need to unlock there are online services as little as $5 out there.
Do you have a link to where you saw it? How much were they asking?

thanks!
well, i cannot post any links yet, but the phone can be found on target's website, under electronics...cell phones...prepaid (no contract). it's 399.99, no contract.
later edit :
just found out that can i can buy the T999N at the same price from metropcs, but i would rather go with T999L from brightspot because i may not have to change the firmware.

Just so you know, you can't flash the T999L firmware to the T999N or vice versa. Roms, kernels, recoveries and modems ok. Firmware no.

$399.99? I would reconsider buying it, especially with the nexus 5 coming out soon. Only downside is no removable battery and no micro SD card slot.

Those are both deal breakers for me. It's just another way the manufacturers can try to dictate how you use hardware you purchased. And to ensure you'll be back to spend more money when the battery dies or you run out of storage.
Anyway, those were both at the top of my list when deciding if I should ditch HTC for this S3.
Sorry for OT, just thought I'd throw that out there!

It is nice to have expandable storage and the option to change batteries. I had the option of the S3 or nexus 4, its obvious which phone I chose. The back of the nexus 4 being glass (fragile glass) was the deal breaker.
The S3 is nice and I've learned quite a few things since I've had it and its a tough phone, I've dropped it a few times and it doesn't have a single mark on it (guess I'm somewhat lucky).
Op if you decide to go with the S3, backup the imei before you start flashing ROMs. There's a few methods on how to do it, you should be able to find them easily.

yes i am aware of that but i want my phone to have removable battery and microSD card. that means no nexus or apple for me or until they come to their senses... if that would ever happen.

Wee bit OT, but if you wanted any further push towards S3, Watch Cnet's Torture Test Video. Priceless.
@docholliday77 Check your PM.

Amazing! Thanks for sharing.
hahaha don't think i'll ever do that to my phone... i just want a good price on a good/decent phone (battery life, storage, and some official OS future upgrades). S3 comes closest to what i need, so right now i'm only looking for the right price

anyway. i just ordered it from target, so looks like soon i'll be able to answer my own question.
Cool. Congrats on your new toy! Verify its actually a T999L before you do anything to it though. If it's different, let me know and I can try to help.
