Brightspot just launched a couple of days ago, and I see a good price for S3 off-contract - the full name of this phone is "Brightspot Samsung Galaxy SIII Cell Phone - White (T999L)". I'm thinking about buying this device and use it with my T-Mobile sim, but was curious to find out if anyone did the same thing and was successful? Do I have to unlock it... would the data work with my T-Mobile sim...? The reps at Target don't seem to know, or they are not willing to tell me the truth

If it's a t999l it should work straight out the box. If not just unlock
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
It's just a guess, but if it's a T999L, it should be identical to T-Mobile's in every way, including its firmware. Anytime a carrier wants different firmware, they usually give it a different model number.
For example, Metro PCS has the T999N. It is a T999L, only the firmware is different, and doesn't have T-Mobile apps/bloat, but this got it its own model number.
Basically I'm saying it should work with T-Mobile's SIM with nothing done. But, like I said, I am guessing here. If you do need to unlock there are online services as little as $5 out there.
Do you have a link to where you saw it? How much were they asking?

well, i cannot post any links yet, but the phone can be found on target's website, under electronics...cell phones...prepaid (no contract). it's 399.99, no contract.

Just so you know, you can't flash the T999L firmware to the T999N or vice versa. Roms, kernels, recoveries and modems ok. Firmware no.

$399.99? I would reconsider buying it, especially with the nexus 5 coming out soon. Only downside is no removable battery and no micro SD card slot.

Those are both deal breakers for me. It's just another way the manufacturers can try to dictate how you use hardware you purchased. And to ensure you'll be back to spend more money when the battery dies or you run out of storage.
Anyway, those were both at the top of my list when deciding if I should ditch HTC for this S3.
Sorry for OT, just thought I'd throw that out there!

It is nice to have expandable storage and the option to change batteries. I had the option of the S3 or nexus 4, its obvious which phone I chose. The back of the nexus 4 being glass (fragile glass) was the deal breaker.
The S3 is nice and I've learned quite a few things since I've had it and its a tough phone, I've dropped it a few times and it doesn't have a single mark on it (guess I'm somewhat lucky).
Op if you decide to go with the S3, backup the imei before you start flashing ROMs. There's a few methods on how to do it, you should be able to find them easily.

Yes I'm an idiot, I know. I bought it off eBay and realized too late.Question is, can I pay a lab to mod it for me or something? It's a Verizon. I heard it has a microSIM slot that's almost sealed shut but still existing. So it would probably just require reprogramming the frequencies. And I'll handle unscrewing the slot and inserting my SIM. Is this possible?

What I'm wondering is, will it kill my SIM card making me get a new one? I'm assuming you have the iPhone 4/4S, correct? If so, you don't have the dilemma I currently have. If you have the 5, that's a nano SIM which isn't able to be swapped back and forth between any device other than itself.

Honestly, I miss AOSP so damn much. I hate having to deal with Sense. I just want to install AOSP and my own kernels with ease. With this phone, I have to wait and wait and wait for developers to even want to jump on it, and then I still have to play with ROMs that are developed on Sense to even get something close to AOSP.

Lets hope that we can take other carriers versions and flash them to T-Mobile since they're all the same... Why? Because I'm not paying 640 bucks for a phone. Sprint phones almost always end up on eBay much cheaper than retail.
If you have a GS3 there isn't really much of a point of upgrading to the GS4... I'd wait for the 3Q and 4Q devices to drop. This beast still has plenty of oomph in it...

Why? (asking legitimate question)
I thought the S3 and Nexus 4 were pretty much the same spec wise?
I had an LG phone before and had a terrible experience... And LG doesn't give a crap about customers with problems. In fact they (lg) went out of the way to erase Facebook complaints comments, etc... I seriously doubt I'd buy another LG device.

I'll be waiting to see what the Motorola X and what nexus devices launch. Also rumor or the Sony xperia line coming to Tmobile so I'm gonna check that out as well. No point in upgrading from s3 to s4.
I've seen the s4 in person since I work in a store and the Samsung rep brought it to us and it is a beautiful phone. The screen on it rivals that of my 42" Samsung TV as far as quality of picture. For anyone not already on an s3, it is a wonderful upgrade but I Dont see the point in going from s3 to s4 especially with s3 rooted on 4.2.2
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I, too, have heard rumors about the Xperia line coming to T-Mobile and I am quite interested.
As for the Nexus 4, don't do it... The build quality is terrible... Just go play with one at a store... And as was said, LG makes terrible devices. The G2x was the biggest fail of a device I've seen in a long time - which really sucked given its potential. A lot of people really hate the Nexus 4. If you DO get one, make sure you get a super case for it.
I had an LG Optimus 3D. Suffered from Ghost calls and Ghost text. People would call, the line would ring on their side but the phone wouldn't make a peep. Same for text, they would send, but they would never get delivered to the phone. LG swept it under the rug. Erased the Facebook comments complaints. And to my knowledge never acknowledged the flaw or offered a solution. It's well documented in the lg forums right here on XDA.
After that I said I wouldn't buy another LG if I could avoid it. (never say Never... LOL)

not sure how that is going to work since you just got the S3. i know they are doing new pricing plans, but i just got my daughter the iphone5 but since i was not up for a full upgrade i paid $200 down, but only pay $12 a month for it instead of $99 and $20 like advertised. you may have to lay out a lot of money to get the S4 now. it shows $149 down and $20 a month, but that is usually for new customers or those of us who have a full upgrade available
i could be wrong though
I dont see a point in upgrading from s3 to s4. but from s3 to note 3 that should be worth it. Well who knows the wife just got the new HT C ONE and its a good phone in my opinion but I had bad experience with the Amaze before. I think that if you are interested in roms Samsung is the way to go with. with its unlock bootloader out of the box and easy to dev with. When HTC you have to wait for S-OFF etc
Release for online just got pushed back to April 29th.
Smh!
Might as well wait till May 1st and get it at a store instead of dealing with shipping.

So Sunday my GS3 died out the blue. It was fine, then suddenly it turned itself off and then wouldn't go pass the boot screen. I call T-mobile and they say the phone is on backorder so I'll have to wait to get another one. Today I get a text message saying "The replacement device for your warranty exchange order is out of stock. A complete kit with a similar device or better value is being sent in its place. Your delivery may be delayed up to 48 hours".
Does that mean they are sending me a brand new gs3 or a completely different phone? I doubt they'd upgrade me to a gs4 right? I'm only worried because the last time I had issues with a warranty replacement from T-mobile, their idea of a equal value was to replace my Blackberry with a Nokia, which I refused.

They sent me the basic GS3...it was just a white one. My original phone was blue. I'm already doing another warranty exchange because this one has major battery charging issues. It was supposedly brand new but I doubt it now.

They never send you brand new phone. It's always a refurbished phone. I had to sent back 3 warranty exchange phones because they just kept messing up.

Well originally they were on back order so I got a message saying they were sending me a brand new in box phone. It came with all the accessories and everything that a new phone has. But it acted like a refurb. Didn't charge correctly. First thought it was the battery but they sent me a new one and that didnt help so they sent me another phone. This one came like the refurbs do..with just the phone, no battery or back.
I just had to use my extended warranty from t-mobile (Asurion is the company I made the claim with) last week. I received a brand new T-999L to replace my T999. I'm loving the speed of the LTE and did root using odin to the stock rom. I'm not too keen on going further though after reading how all the roms on here don't fully support the t99L, reading how they might work or require patching but may not work at LTE speeds is reason enough to just keep the phone as is for now.

LET will still work. It just may not say LTE in the statusbar.

I also have the T999L and was wondering if the rooting methods for T999 will work on my phone. It was sent to me to replace a nexus 4 from TMO. I had no other choice..it was all they offering. Anywho, this is one of my concerns..will my LTE still work? Have you rooted and ran ROMS and your LTE still works? I want to jump in the game but don't want to mess up a good thing.

Go to the q&a thread and you'll find most of what you need to know there. Link is in my sig.

Definitely will be looking in to it,...but have to wonder, how much of a PITA will it be to get a replacement for warranty purposes.
For $300 bucks, I will get one to compliment my note 3. Hope to get invite and work on ATT LTE network.

You get to invite a friend to buy another for just a buck also if you get the invite. I will gladly smash my note 3 and get two of these for a buck each.
And if they let you choose the 64Gb version for $50, I would still take that deal.

I'll be going for that deal
I was gonna get a nexus 5 but think I wanna gave this a try O.O looks nice.
waiting for good feedbacks here
These phone seems to be incredible for specs and price. The only thing is the big size but maybe you'll get used to.
Waiting for a Nexus 6 for a comparison

I.........know!My thought remain the same, was discussion on OPO,i think it will be an opponent of next google device instead of Note 3
Specs aside, you have me on the fact this is made to flash custom ROMs without the manufacturer or carrier bloat.
It's about time a company says, "here is a high end device. We are going to give you some awesome features, but if you want, do with as you will... And BTW, here is how you do it."
If the phone had the same specs as the gs4 and had this idea I would buy it. Just the idea behind it is what sold it for me. I will be getting one whether or not I get it for a $1

I just hope that having a T-Mobile.com email will help me be one of the first 100 to get.

Good luck. Invite me if you get it... Lol.

Non replaceable battery killed it for me.
I'd prefer a SD card slot, as I carry a lot of music, and don't like cloud.
Id buy one, just to try something new, not so sure about this invite option. I'd figure any company would want to have full availability as soon as possible.

I will be picking up one of the 64GB ones when I get an invite.
I did enter the Smash your phone and win one for $1.00 thing but I did that with an old S3 (I'm not smashing a $700.00 Note III for a $300.00 phone)
