Hello all,
I colleague of mine started talking about connecting mouse to her Android pad through an Micro-usb to mother USB cable.
I tried that on my Desire HD phone and found that i do not have "Mouse" driver in Accessibility, so it did not work.
I started looking on the internet and found the videos below, showing that some mobile phones can connect to mouse and Video (MHL cable)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBfjY9CjS3U
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46IiRyigUH0&feature=fvwrel
Does anybody know if these drivers can be installed on Desire HD?
Kind regards,
Daniel
We don't have USB host enabled by default, but there have been some kernel development for it, however I'm not sure how that ended up... Check the development section...

Hello:
I use Nexus One before, and there is a USB host mode driver which enables Nexus One's USB host function, I can connect some USB device to it, it's awesome ^_^
Now I switched to Desire HD, so is there any usb host mode driver for it now??
Thanks very much~~~
I was just thinking if DHD can do this the other day, I would too love to know about this.
?
Ok, I saw this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702742&page=1
My question: Can that mod let me connect a USB-VGA adapter to a Desire?
Thanks!
Yeah, USB-VGA adapter will works if usb host mode driver works...
Does this usb host mode driver for Desire also works for Desire HD??
any updates? anyone figured or tried anything? whether it worked or didn't work?
would love to use a gamepad or keyboard I have the adapter that goes to female usb too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993152 There it is.
Hi,
Have just received a dock for my HTC Desire Z and was using it on my PC for the first time. Phone connected to HTC sync Ok and got the usual noises when the connection on the PC was being established.
However, not long after my internet died and wireless connection dropped/disconnected. On looking further I see I have new hardware with no drivers. Some IDE controller called AT43ZU27 IDE.
Re-established my wireless etc and searched for the above to find no hits??!!
Odd..
Disconnected the Desire Z and uninstalled the hardware.
I have seen something vaguely similar in the Windows phone section about turning off high speed USB? Might this be it?
Or would this be the quality of the cable that connects the dock to the PC??
Dock is one of these:
Desire Dock...
PC is a Windows 7 64bit with Intel Core2, 8Gb RAM and more HDD space than you can shake a stick at.

Hi
Can someone answer if USB OTG is supported on the One V
using stock kernel and ROM?
Regards
max
EDIT: After some searching I found that "official" it is not suported
What surprises me is that in the kernel configuration of the stock
kernel all options are set that I would assume to allow OTG
e.g. there is something like
...
CONFIG_USB_MSM_OTG:
Enable this to support the USB OTG transceiver on MSM chips
...
Would be nice if someone could enable this for One V. This kernel project is enabling OTG for One X http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640532
Otg only works in bootloader....

Actually we are talking here about USB-Host support and not USB-OTG

Isn't it the same?
USB On-The-Go, often abbreviated USB OTG, is a specification that allows USB devices such as digital audio players or mobile phones to act as a host allowing a USB flash drive, mouse, or keyboard to be attached and also connecting USB peripherals directly for communication purposes among them.

USB-OTG also means that you dont necessarily need a powered hub to use it AFAIK
And USB-OTG means that "both sides" can act as a client or a host
From your link above
...
USB OTG defines two roles of devices: OTG A-device and OTG B-device. This terminology defines which side supplies power to the link, and which is initially the host. The OTG A-device is a power supplier, and an OTG B-device is a power consumer. The default link configuration is that A-device act as USB Host and B-device is a USB peripheral. The host and peripheral modes may be exchanged later by using HNP. Because every OTG controller supports both roles, they are often called "Dual-Role" controllers rather than "OTG controllers"
...
Whereas USB-Host means that the android device is always the host
Since the HTC is not providing power on its USB port you always
need to use a powered usb hub in this case.
I am pretty sure that we can have USB-Host on the V since other devices
using exactly the same chipset can do it. But I still need to do some investigation

Hi Guys
See attached screenshot and notice the "mouse pointer"
So it means we will have USB host support!
Actually not much was "missing" the guys at HTC just
"forgot" to register the usb host driver on init
At the moment the "mode" musst be switched manually
between "host" and "peripheral" which means e.g. charger a.s.o
The automatic switch based on using a OTG cable is not working
or I have the wrong cable
SO I was able to connect a active hub with a mouse and it works
Next thing will be a usb storage device
I will still need some more time to finalize this.
This will then continue in the Titanium-KISS kernel thread

max
Lol why do you have an app for screen shots?

Hi
Just a short update
-OTG cable detect working
that means switching between host and peripheral (normal) mode works
automatically. No need for a script anymore
-USB keyboard tested and works
-USB storage is still killing me

Hi
Just found a nice other xda thread about USB host

Info there applies nearly 1:1 to KISS kernel

Hello.
I bought this USB OTG cable from Amazon :
http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00646KVBW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00.
With it, I can read USB pen drives content without any problem. It is detected as soon as I plug it and I can play MP3 files from the drive for example.
However, I'm unable to use any USB mouse / keyboard or gamepad (ICS is supposed to have added gamepad profile...), although i've seen many people doing it.
I'm using stock ICS 4.0.3 (unrooted, but that shouldn't be a problem...), I've tried to use USB Joystick Center to see if anything was detected, but no luck so far, although Videos show people even using a wireless XBOX360 controller with what seems the exact same configuration...
Did I miss something ? Is it possible that my cable only allows to use usb mass storage but nothing else ?
I hope someone has some experience to share...
Thanks in advance for your help and sorry if this has already been answered.
Myster-D
Bump ? Anyone ?
Do you think I should have the thread moved to the main Q&A forum ?
Thanks
The cable is fine the kernel isn't you will most likely have to change the phones kernel to enable a few other host otg options.
Thanks for your help.
Is there a way to enumerate the modules implemented in the kernel without rooting ?
I really thought stock kernel had the mouse / keyboard hid profiles...
Thanks again.

Hi guys,
My galaxy nexus screen has been cracked and it does not respond in 75% of the screen.
I bought a MHL to HDMI convertor on amazon and luckily got the phone UI to show up on my TV
Now since the touchscreen won't work , I need to connect a keyboard or mouse via USB OTG and use it for navigation.
Problem is the Galaxy Nexus has only a single microUSB/MHL port combined into one.
I have no idea how to split the output from the phone to connect to a USB OTG cable and MHL to HDMI adapter simultaneously !
Any help will be appreciated,
The phone is not rooted AFAIK , but may be I'm not sure. It was running Android 4.1 JellyBean when I dropped it on the floor
The phone does show up on my Windows PC and I have copied the photos off it. But I still want to copy contacts and SMS messages.
You tried just using something like Android Screencast from the PC (USB debugging is needed)
Also, some MHL adapters have a USB port in them, for power. Have you tried getting a crude micro USB splitter? Like this one? http://www.replacebase.co.uk/micro-usb-female-to-2-x-micro-usb-male-splitter-2392-p.asp#.URk59JGYOBs
Not guaranteed that would work though. Also, a quick google of what you want brings up some others with the same issue, have you tried to see if any of them have succeeded?

Good news
I had a spare galaxy nexus in the office and I gently took the screws of both the devices , and just swapped the displays so that I could quickly turn on usb debugging , backup essential stuff and also turn on bluetooth.
Thanks to some assembly videos on youtube ! will share some pics soon
