I have a simple question and i think ive seen some mention of it, but nothing quite definitive
I want to root my SGSIIX from Telus(989D), and ive figured out that i can follow the same instructions as the T-mobile version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332103
It suggests a ROM below that was originally posted for the T-mobile ver, is there any T-mobile branding on it visually such as boot screens etc?
Also...
If a ROM works flawlessly on the tmobile version, will it also work flawlessly on the telus version by default. Ive been eyeballing the possibility of Cyanogen or MIUI, and juggernaut...but i wanna make sure EVERYTHING works perfectly after doing so, or if there are certain things that might not work
Thanks! (sorry im rather new to android modding so im trying to learn)
And yes i searched around, but have only seen a few ppl post in threads saying 'it should work', then some say theyve had problems..so thought id make a post!
i have the same questions then you the tutorials i found are for the t-mobile rom
not the telus one but reading other post they are the same rom
but i dont whant to take the risk lol

Same, specially since im new at this!
yes, they are identical software and hardware
i rooted the phone today there is alot of apps in the t-mobile version compare to the telus one I followed the instructions from this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332103
the 4g network was gone could not connect to it only 3g was working
i uninstalled most apps with titanium backup pro but i end restoring to the back up i made from CWR
gonna give it another try when they are going to release a rom that is from telus version of the phone
i hope it helps you
The 4g is broken for me to ...it seems like the modders are only interested in the t-mobile version to, so it looks like even rooting(based on the fact that the rooted rom is also a t-mob) wont even be possible

What do you mean rooting? All you need to do is flash CWM and then the SU package, no need to change any ROM at all.
I rooted my Telus device using the T-Mobile instructions and all was well at home, it stayed on the Telus network and also keep 4G speed.
I went to work with it, where Telus service is very poor, and as soon as I lost Telus it roamed to Rogers and did not try and return to Telus even though I was in an area where Telus signal was good.
In the end I changed the device to wcdma mode only and set the device to manual provider and selected Telus and have had no problems with 4G or not being on Telus...

Do you happen to have a link? I followed a guide on this forum that said the easiest way was to flash the rom!
I rooted my phone, it still said 4G.
When I installed beastMOD it says 3G. But I am definitely getting 4G speeds (20mbps). So.. maybe a bug with the difference in phones?
ughhh
trust me...stick with the telus rom. its actually better code then tmob. newer drivers and less debug code. I tried the tmob and its gawd aweful. if u want goodies...slap a kernel on it then theme it. best way to go imho.
Later

haha, i only know how to follow step by step's for this stuff
i can only hope ppl switch over to the telus code i guess
Im trying to find how to root w/o flashing a rom though

For Telus you don't need to change roms when you root.
I'm running the stock rom on my phone with a modified kernel to allow the phone to run faster and the v6 memory mod as well as removing the clock from notification bar.
Installed Titanium and removed a bunch of the crap that came stock with phone too.

Do i install a kernel the same way i install a ROM? Aka through CWM? And if so,which do you use?

I was using Jugs kernel but I switched to Synergy and like it better.
And yes.. I just download it to my sd card and install it thru CWM

Get the recovery.tar from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315390
Flash that through ODIN (PDA mode in ODIN, Download mode on Phone)
Then, place the SU update (http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip) on the root of the SD card. Reboot to recovery, select install zip from SD Card and select the SU update. Reboot and you're rooted without having to use another ROM.
The reason why you keep getting a 3G signal when you are getting 4G speeds is because you are using a T-Mobile ROM. The way the Telus one works, if you don't have a ROM that is based off of Telus's source code, even though everything works perfectly fine, your signal will be "3G". It's really only an aesthetic thing, as the speeds themselves are 4G.
So what kernel do you recomend.
and is it the telus kernel with sudo rights ????

Not sure for kernel, I just used the stock one. I just finished flashing Synergy, haven't tried anything yet! I seem to have this issue where I need to re-search for my network after going into download mode (normal behavior?) so I need to get that working before I want to benchmark.
I fully tested a custom juggernaut rom and a rooted Telus stock rom and the juggernaut rom is waaayyy better. Smoother more options as well as better signal. True it says 3g but actually I get better speeds than stcok Telus rom. In my opinion after several tests don't use stock Telus. It may be better code than T-Mobile stock rom but custom juggernaut rom is way better

Thanks guys!
Ive got it rooted with the lightning blue theme going, and froze a bunch of apps with Titanium that i hate seeing running in the background.
one last question though(i think)
I once had a Fascinate, when i flashed a voodoo mod kernel and tried to remove it, the phone became bricked and the entire insides of the phone had to be replaced
Can flashing a kernel mess with the boot loader(which i assume is cwm)? Is there anything i need to do differently when changing kernels as well, cause so far with ROMS ive just been resetting and flashing with ease. Also do Roms come with kernels, so flashing a rom will either go back to default/other kernels?
Hello everyone I have a s3 and I'm using it it with mobilicity provider. Every time I turn the phone off it takes like 5 mins to register to network? Does anyone know why. My friend note 2 register right away. Does s3 have bad radio?

I don't think the radio has anything to do with it. What kind of connection are you getting when it registers?
My unicorn died, back on the pony.
Let us know not just what it says in the status bar when it finally registers, but also, after booting up, go to Settings > About Device > Status and post what it says for Mobile Network Type, both before and after it connects.
Also, please post info about what firmware you are running. Are you rooted? Custom Rom? Have you flashed any kernels or modems? Did you try wiping Dalvik and Cache from recovery? Try factory reset?
I would normally agree with Vopezy about the modem, but in your case, I have to wonder about it since you are on a carrier that usually has the T999V model phone. If you want to give it a shot, you could try to flash one of the Mobilicity modems.
First go to Settings > About Device and write down your current baseband, in case you need to flash back to it.
You can find the T999V modems at the bottom of the OP in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880987
Just to be clear, I dont usually recommend flashing a different models modem. Usually this is because in most cases it simply wont even establish a connection. (most times its a T999V user wanting to flash a T999 modem, but staying on their own network) As best as I have been able to tell, the T999 and T999V are virtually identical. I do know the modem partitions are the same, which is why you can flash the modem, it won't brick your phone, but it just may not work, forcing you to flash back to the original.
Because they are practically the same phone, and from what Ive read, T999 modems don't work on canadian networks, it seems logical that the T999 phone would have problems....unless it had a T999V modem. I hope that makes sense, I want to try to help you understand what you are doing and why.
If that does not work, or you want to try something else first, you could try swapping SIM cards with someone on the same network as you. If their SIM works fine in your GS3, or your SIM works in their phone, then its most likely either a SIM or account issue. If their SIM does not work on your phone, but yours does work on theirs, then its either SW or HW and not an account issue.
Something else you can try is flashing some of the other T999 modems, and/or try flashing the stock firmware via Odin. This would only help if there was something corrupted in the system partition that was causing your problem. Possible, but not probable.
As a last resort, and this would require a bit more work to pull off, you could try to flash the Mobilicity Firmware using Odin. (Or if I have the time I can try to build a quick rom out of the firmware so it can be flashed in recovery...this would be safer)
Either way, if it comes to that, please do not try to Odin flash the fw on your own. It will almost certainly fail. I will probably need to modify something to make it work.
The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards trying the Mobilicity modem. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about doing any of this.
Sorry its so much at once. Ill probably be logging off soon, so wanted to leave you with more than one thing to try until Im back on.
Good Luck!!!
Thanks a lot it worked so it's a sim card issue cause mobilicity have new Micro sim cards and I had the older one and I was activating a customer today and tried her sim on my phone and it registered right away. Thanks

Hey everyone, noob here. I have a T989 and its my first smartphone. Anyway Id like to "flash" to a skyrocket Rom. Reason why may be obvious, Im on At&t and only getting edge speed. I guess the skyrocket will open the needed radio frequencies to get 3g.
First question, is a flash absolutely necessary, is there another way to open radio freq?
Second question, any issues w/ skyrocket Rom/s? I read there was a screen rotation issue. Has that been fixed?
Lastly, and I hate to ask, how exactly do I safely flash my phone? Like how do I back it up, where to find the flash, and how to install? Id really hate to brick my phone as its my only computer atm.
B4 I go, I must say thank you in advance to all that care to help as its immensely appreciated. Really, thank you.
I'm not sure that we can use skyrocket radios and roms don't open up the radio frequency
The rotation fix must be flashed after flashing a skyrocket rom but to back out ur roms, use titanium backup
Lastly flashing steps are within the threads for the rom

Speaking as one who has gone the other way [skyrocket/att to tmobile] I believe you need to flash the radio, not the rom.
Hello. Im currently using the UVDMD5 modem for the Tmobile S3 and get decent signal. Ive tried others, but they dont seem to help much. Has anyone had good experience with the UVUEMJC or UVUEMJ4? I see UCUEMJ2 is ported from ATT. Is there anything different I need to do to flash that? If its ported from ATT, what exactly does that mean for signal?
Its been so long since I changed my modem, ive kinda forgotten how to do it :/
Anything as to what I need to do to use the UCUEMJ2 modem?
Should be able to just flash normally. They are on the same partition, so if it doesnt work, it shouldn't be a problem to just flash back to a T999 one. I haven't been around much recently, can't remember much about it tbh.
As for others experience, it will have little to do with your own. Different people have different "best" modems. The only real way to know which will work best for you is to try them out yourself and see.

I think I read somewhere that in order to use UCUEMJ2, you had to flash something else first? But now I cant find it...
Probably a kernel. Just a guess though.

Hmmm. Can anyone else help?
I'm doing some testing and other stuff and I need the baseband and modem in a flaahable zip format for use with twrp should I screw up. Can anyone plz help? I have the g920p and ill be testing the g920t roms. Just came back to sprint this week for service hehehe...... so I'm looking to get some potential new ROMs for our devices either by port or whatever.
Sorry if this is not the place for these kinda questions but I'm an impatient bastard and I don't have time to scope the web for a proper placement for these questions, wth all respect. please and thanks for the help.
I've gotten the tmo roms to boot however...
However I need the baseband for our s6 to have service and,the like.....can someone, anyone get me a twrp or flashfire flashable baseband for OCF or OE2? I've looked and looked and can't find a thing. I've tested a couple tmo roms and yes They boot up and all is well, except no signal, no baseband or anything of that nature. In my past flaahing adventures, I know flashing a baseband will at times fix,the lack there of. Help me plz and thankyou.

Wouldn't this be a kernel or rom issue? Generally, custom roms don't touch the baseband, only carrier OTAs.
Its a modem/baseband issue. It says, unknown baseband and all that stuff and the other radio like stuff is gone also. I believe a,baseband being flashed would resolve this issue. Everything else works like a charm.

So you're flashing GSM ROMs...for a CDMA device...it's not a baseband issue...it's a ROM/kernel issue...
Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
Well I'm flashing every kind of rom. I REALLY,would just like the damn base and/modem please. I'm flashing all roms and the baseband and imei is broken on GSM on the cdma only the baseband is broken. This request of mine shouldn't be a matter of interrogation....more a matter of helping someone out who would like yo experiment and possibly find a way to run any rom on our devices. Be its cdma or GSM more or less the g920f as its global the the g920v/I/k roms or whatever is cdma.
No no sir that isn't what I'm seeking.....I require the modem so I can experiment with other roms. I need the modem.bin or the modem. I need this desperately. I don't mean to be rude but this should be simple to acquire from a well known and well experienced dev or someone like a dev. Can you or someone please help?

Djvoleur, i too have a sprint s6 thats gsm unlocked and ive tried plenty of stock/rooted kernels for our device with tmobile, att, verizon, sprint s6 edge, and even international cooked roms . Most of them boot when using your kernel . Theyll work with vkernel or unikernel, but as he was saying, although he was rude, the baseband is always unknown. No signal, sometimes you wont even see a X for no signal. Do you have any ideas i could try ? Ive got plenty sprint s6 phones to try this on and not worried about a brick. I know the risks. I titanium backup restore my personal phone nearly 3 times a week to figure this out. Not enough people bounce ideas off one another in this forum
Have you tried a note 5 rom? I would assume the issues from a note Sprint note one wouldn't be the same as the connectivity settings would be the same. The issue would probably be more of a hardware/programming problem. At this point, I think it would be an easier port since our device isn't as similar to the international device as we once thought it could be.
Never tried note 5 rom . I dont think that'd work without a port of device drivers n such
